I use Yahoo Sportacular, I didn't like ScoreCenter either.
Widget lets me scroll my favorite teams.

1 weather has animations but more with an minimalistic look and feel and its more advanced, beweather is nicer but needs an additional 60 mb download for animations and some features may not work outside of the us
