4.2.1 Update NO AUDIO FROM HDMI BUG - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So two weeks ago I turn on my TF300T in the morning and saw this 4.2.1 update . Since I was in a hurry to go out, I didn't check if there is any bug. After I saw a post about people having problem with no audio output from HDMI after the update on other site.I decided to try if really there is such problem and guess what, same problem,no audio out for me too.I'm creating this thread so that people with this problem can come together and discuses and see if we can write something to Asus or find a way to solve this problem.
You can see people comments on the comment section on this website and all the bugs they face.

I don't think Asus have release any new update to fix this. Are you rooted? If you are I think the best option is to roll back to the last version. I'm currently on this version.

As I mentioned on another thread, some people (me included) have audio via HDMI only if the tablet volume is raised before connecting the cable. It's not a normal thing to do, but at least it works. Did you try it?

I thought the fix for this was setting media volume to max before plugging in HDMI cable?

No I haven't tried that. Didn't know that there's a work around for this. I will update you guys once I tried it.

Thanks. I plan on getting an HDMI cable but if audio dont work then i aint.

Yesterday i picked up a micro hdmi cable to try video for the first time. I got video but no audio. I am running 4.2.1. I checked this forum only to find these threads. Here is what I found:
No audio on my 26" Sony
Turning the audio up first made no difference
The image goes off screen
When i plugged it into the tv while the tv was set to a different input, audio still played from the TF300T speaker. As soon as i changed the tv input to hdmi, the TF300T audio went silent.
Then I tried it on my old rear projection Sony tv and audio worked.
The TF300T is definitely having trouble on some tv's - newer models???
I guess i'll report it to asus.
Peter

Tried that work around yesterday. It didn't work with my TV. Anyone have any luck with this work around?

I reported the issue to ASUS specifically askIng if there were aware. They answered. Yes it is a problem, yes they are working on it - code fix is coming April/May.

Gyroscope inverted? And another question...

Im having my second big problem with this tablet...
Have you guys used your gyroscope and if yes where, cause today I got mc3 from play store and started it, then i noticed that the gyro is inverted like by turning the device up and down it goes left and right and vice versa. I then downloaded a gyro test app from market and there i had exact same problem, it said in the description of the app that motorola XOOM has a problem with gyro that the x and y are inverted (exactly same problem).
So have you guys had this?
Overall im getting frustrated with this tablet due to problems with strange lag see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774826 although i have posted that the problems were gone i re-noticed them today on for example mc3.
Overall what do you think of these? Have you had these or should i send it back to repair...
I would really appreciate any help...
Thanks!

I just downloaded Z-device tester from the market. The gyro seems to be doing exactly as I'd expect. 300t in the us running .30 and rooted, no custom ROM.

I've had no issue anywhere close to your latency problem. It sounds like you got your hands on a bad one here. Don't know for sure but I'd trade it if I could.

Just to level out the playing field, I've got the same problem on a Samsung Nexus (I just noticed it sometime over the last hour or so). I just happened to wind up here when Google Now said "No Connection" and then brought me here as if it had a perfect connection
edit; Haven't tested this notion yet but I realize that this started for me when I applied today's google maps update which supposedly is more tightly integrated with google now so that it can get maps.google.com searches history that was just typed in on a pc in your account. I'm going to revert back to the backed up prior one and see if it goes away.
Good to know that am not the only one.

Was just about to start a new topic for this. I thought I was alone. Maybe I'll try reverting the Maps App too.
Edit:: Nope, still issues.

Reverted to 1 version back of Google Maps (about 1 month old), and it didn't change the 'no connection" problem in Google Now, so .. so much for that theory
I don't think this a compatibility issue , it seems to me an error on Google side. I hope it gets resolve quickly.

Having the same issues. It's occurring on my Nexus 7, Galaxy Nexus, and an Acer A200 tablet, with both of my Google accounts. I tried clearing the data for Google Now on the 7 and GNex, nothing. Changing passwords doesn't help, and reverting to the old maps doesn't. I even tried uninstalling the most recent Google Now update, nothing.
Lets hope this gets fixed today!

HDMI out, no sound

I don't know if this is an Android specific issue that simply needs a setting changed that I'm not seeing or if this is an issue with my new TF700T. In any case, I'm not getting sound via HDMI out. I didn't have this issue with my TF201 or my first TF700T. Any ideas?
If I can find my HDMI cable I'll let you know, as I haven't tried it yet... if it's a "setting" issue that you discover, please post what you did to correct it

Yesterday I hooked up mine with HDMI to our TV --- unless it is just me, I might have found a quirk
at first I had no sound, and wasn't able to get sound by turning up the sound on the tablet....... I was running BS Player testing a movie -- I often have my sound turned down/off ..... and I found I had to turn my sound up BEFORE launching BS Player ...... then I got sound no problem.
don't know if that is your problem or not....... but that's my experience
I've had no problems with sound on hdmi. I have read about cable problems. If your problem comes back you might try a different cable. Run a youtube test to see if its a program quirk.
I just doubled checked to make sure. YouTube sound just fine.

Yeah, I tried several programs, including youtube, to no avail. One thing I didn't think of at the time was that it may be a TV handshaking issue. The only time I ever use my tablet (and my previous ones too) for HDMI out was in hotel rooms. So of course we're talking about a different TV every time. This was the first time I tried with this tablet. I will try again soon with another TV.
I've tested on two different tvs. My Samsung adjusted to screen size when in the right mode. Acer tv masked part of picture and i was unable to change. This masking, i believe, is caused by infinity's screen resolution, sound on both. Lets hope jb includes hdmi screen adjustment settings.

I think what you're referring to is overscan. There should be a setting on the TV for that.
Thanks,
What i called an Acer is actually a cheap Philips with no overscan settings.

Sound Issues

Hey All,
I'm new to this tablet but not Android. I did search but didn't find much.
While watching videos, the sound drops every couple of minutes for 5 or so seconds. I have tried the stock player, MX player and RockPlayer2. Ive tried hardware and software decoding. All of them act the same. These are .mp4 videos that play fine on my Note2.
I am unrooted and stock, although I was planning on rooting.
Any ideas of how to fix this?
Thanks!

No, I've never heard of nor encountered this issue.
Try shutting everything else that's running in the background down. Games, browsers and the like. (Under settings --> Apps --> Running)
Maybe it happens when something triggers the notification sound? Like email or something. Maybe the system lessens the sound in anticipation of the notification sound activating regardless of whether it was muted or set to the lowest setting. Just a thought.

Trust me on this.... 99.9% of all issues on 700 are the rom malfunctioning....
Install cleanrom inheritance 2.7 ...u will have no sound issues....

Check to see if you have mail checking going on in the background. When I changed to manual checking rather than push mail or scheduled polling, I stopped seeing the issue. If it isn't mail, see if you have a newsreader or something similar running.

Interesting, looks like this update has been out for some time. I have only just received the notification. It was released around the time my tab went in for RMA with a new motherboard. Perhaps there was some conflict like people have using the unlock tool that has only just been resolved. I may give the asus device tracker a go and see if it works.
P.S. I have seen the root issues. With the warranty now expired I was thinking of unlocking anyway.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk HD
OK, so checked device tracker and that seems to be working correctly. I have noticed as others have that in the update list I have some US updates when my tab is WW. What that means I have no idea other than my MAC address previously being assigned to a device in the US possibly? Who cares... at least I should be able to use the unlock tool
Sorry for the random thread!! Admin can delete if they prefer.
