Battery Drain after flashing ROM - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

So after a few days of having my first rooted Verizon Galaxy SIII phone running on CM10.1, I noticed that my battery has been draining noticeably faster than before. It's to a point where it drops to 75% when I just go on my phone for 20 minutes. I checked my battery usage and it appears that '' screen '' is taking up most of the battery. I don't have a live wallpaper, only have two tabs on my screen and only about 3 widgets running. Am I doing something wrong here? My data and etc is off. Only wifi is turned on. What's causing the drain?

Click into screen. screenshot and post the screen on time. Get better battery stats, use it and see what is causing the problem exactly.

So I used BBS and it seems that "PowerManagerService" is taking up A LOT of my battery... What do I do? Please help. My phone has been dying on me.

Your at 12 hours tho? Screens hot your screen on time I don't think it's a battery drain if you have at least 30 min on time since you've been half a day off the phone as well.

Quite possibly a bad battery. Your battery shouldn't drain when the phone is off.

Does it drain when the battery is removed from the phone?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
you should download a cm7 nightly my battery lasted from 10pm - 9am with 30% than i put it to charge
You can either do a factory reset or NVFlash CWM and flash a ROM to see if that fixes things. If not, then defective battery.
What these guys are saying is most likely, especially with that kind of drain. But also make sure you don't have any crummy apps, it apps that run when your phones off. Ex. Some weather apps run in the background and draindrain
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
You guys. He said that his phone was OFF while the battery lost its juice. It has NOTHING to do with what ROM, KERNEL etc etc he is using. Now for the op; simply just get a new battery and check if the problem persists.

Haha, yea. Read to fast, selective reader I guess. Thought I saw 'screen off' =)

Try the same test with the battery completely removed.
If it doesn't drain that fast - Then the phone is not shutting down properly, and most likely is the result of a nasty app.
If it does still drain that fast - Then the battery is probably faulty.

In your original post when you said you turn the phone off at night, you do mean actually turning it off right? Like shutting it down and not just turning the screen off, right? Just making sure we're all on the same page. If the phone is powered down then it can't be an app because apps can only run when you're booted into Android.

I would try to eliminate apps one by one. Freezing them with titanium backup or using better battery stats to see which apps have a lot of wakelocks. I had the same issue before.

Then its the battery. I had the problem with my g1. I would load the maps and use gps. It would say my battery is around 70% then after like 5mins the phone would get hot and then it would say i was at 30% or lower. Swap out for a new battery and it didnt do that anymore.
My g2x is kinda doing the same thing. But its a little slower. I turn the phone on in the morning 100% battery. Then use it for about an hr. (95-80%battery) put it in my pocket. Then about 2hrs later it at 40-35%. And the phone feels warm.
Also check your battery to see if it had a lump on it. If so then its a bad battery and needs to be replaced asap.
I ordered a replacement on ebay should be here by next weekend. Only $4

I don't think its the battery in this case.

I had a problem like this and still do at times. Part of it was the stock kernel I was running and the other part was the fact that the phone was not fully going into the low power state it was supposed to. I now only loose about 5 to 7% in the worst cases. That is better than the 20 to 30% I was loosing before.

[Q] Display using battery [solved?]

Has anyone ever heard of an instance where the display drains the battery while off? 4 hrs on battery, display using 54%, all others using 4% or less, and display off 85% of the time. 20% remaining.
Just curious. Probably gonna GR then reflash
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Your display is always going to use a large portion of battery. Being on battery for only 4 hours may be misleading. Let your phone run through most of the charge and check again.
As you continue to use it, other apps and services will contribute to battery drainage, in turn lowering the percentage of juice shown used by your display.
Im not trying to imply you are wrong. You may have an issue, and I could be way off base. Just something to think about.
Edit: I re-read your post. It ran through 80% of your battery in 4 hours with minimal use?

Thanks. I was actually just seeing if this has ever happened to anyone before. There has to be something wrong. Just a one day fluke I guess cause today it seems to be going ok so far. I'm just gonna start from scratch and try again.
Tried to thank you for responding, but alas, I am limited to 8 per day. I'll get you tomorrow.
My display also drains a large portion of my battery, but never THAT much. Is your brightness really high at all times? If so, turn it down.

Your battery dies really fast while display is off?
The day I posted it was dying super fast. I have not changed anything and it seems to be better but still draining pretty fast. Running better batt stats app for a few days to see if I can catch what's doing it.
Someone in anton's kernel thread said that the first few charges went great but all of a sudden it's draining fast. This is what happened to me. I'll report back what I find out with the app.

Could it be you have latitude turned on? This used loads of battery on the phone I just had
I solved it by discharging the battery completely, then I did wipe battery stats and then i re-charged it. now after 6 hours its 94%
What's the typical battery time for the One S? I got mine a few days ago and it just seems like the battery drains away way too quickly than what I read on reviews. 14 minutes in and already at 83%? Yet all I did was use the 3G connection. But my screen consumption is 89% yet I have brightness at below half way, probably 40%. How is any of this possible?! I've got Google's Location service and Location and Google search options turned on, could this be it?
I haven't had the opportunity to go at it for the full day, so that's what I'm gonna do today and see how it goes.

Battery draining way to fast

I woke up at 7:00am phone fully charged.
Now is 10:40am and its almost at 59%??!! This wasn't happening before... I wonder what is running at the background that consumes so much battery. I haven't used the phone Mich either... Compared to days before where I even used it more including the camera... And never drain this quick.
Help me here figure out what happened.

Check and let me if this helps ....
Go to settings --- battery --- open apps individually and restrict background data of apps which you do not want to use data while not in use.
Also, keep screen brightness to 50%- 70% max.
Switch off data when not required.

Battery life

This is probably one of the worst phones on battery life that I have ever had... No matter what I do, what tweaks I use of what rom I'm on... I always only get 7 to 8 hours of battery with 1 hr screen on time.
I honestly have no idea what to do... I'm so sick of it. Anybody have any suggestions?
Seriously?
I have been on my phone all day with a full charge and I still have about half the juice. I am on stock 4.0.4 ICS. The one that droidstyles has in his guide. The Rom that came with my phone sucked on battery. This Rom works great for some reason.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
What are your settings on? Post your settings (like screen, whether GPS is on, ect), a lot of times it has to do with your settings. I used to have so-so battery life but I tweaked some stuff in my settings and am very pleased with the phone.
Believe me, if you want bad, try the Droid Charge. Worst 4g phone I have ever had in terms of battery life.
This is on clean rom. Ignore the screen percentage, going down since this was a recently flashed rom.

I have nothing running... Only thing that I actually did was run v6 and I am running kt kernel
I'm on pure motives rls7
I'll add a screen shot of my battery status tomorrow cause I just plugged in
I get 30 hours with 5 and a half hours screen time.
Idk why your battery life is so bad.
I have power save on, no vibration, and sync set to manual. That's about it. Battery life for me is amazing.

Possible Idea
Don't know if this problem could occur with different ROM's, but I had issues with a runaway process that kept showing up. Maybe try Developer Options -> Show CPU Usage. I noticed that one called gsiff_daemon kept showing up at the top and was making my battery drain extremely fast. Everyone on this forum said it was a common issue and that it wasn't a crucial file, therefore I should just change the name so it wouldn't get accessed.
On RLS7 and kt kernel? This kernel has capabilities for overclocking/underclocking & overvolting/undervolting. By default your min Mhz is set to 384. Go into ktweaker and lower it to 96, test your phone out with a scaled stress test (play store app for stress testing). Then you can also go into the extra settings of ktweaker and set the Mhz for when your screen is off in addition to the governor (many options of which some are powersaving labelled).
If you want to save more battery read the kernel's thread to see starting undervolting values and lower from there while testing your phones limits. More undervolted you are, the less battery your phone uses for that particular frequency.

You obviously never had the thunderbolt, now that battery sucked. You have to let the rom settle in and your battery will improve. Usually for me the first day not so good after that everything is fine.

I had a Thunderbolt. Yep, now that was poor battery life.
My S3 gives me 12 hours if I use it heavily. Typically, at 16 hours, I still have 40% remaining. I leave WiFi, bluetooth, and GPS on 100% of the time.
As bad as your battery is, I would suspect that you have a poor radio signal.and the radios are cranking up the power to work. Try using WiFi or turning off mobile data for a while to get the LTE radio turned off.

This. For example, I have a 4g tower nearby at work, normally (4-5 bars). But sometimes it disappears, and I end up on a 1-2 bar 3g tower for the day. On those days, my battery life is around 8hrs max, barely using it. On good signal, even with crazy heavy usage (4hrs screen on and lots of 4g web browsing) I can get over 8 hours.
Signal strength has a LOT to do with battery life.
