Hi there after the update like a few others i am having problems but this (seems) is different.
Start with a black locked screen, press the power button and the backlight comes on and if i look closely it appears as thought there's lots of faint flashing lines running vertically. After a short period of time the phone goes back to sleep, i can then press the power button again and all is fine the lock screen appears as normal. Although i may have to wait until the screen goes back and try the power button several times before the lock screen comes on.
I know there is nothing wrong with the screen as it has not been dropped/damaged in any way and works fine after i have got passed the lock screen. The problem happens regardless whether or not i let the phone go into sleep mode of by pressing the power key to get it there.
Any ideas? TIA
Odp: Screen problems after update to 4.1.2
Instal xxmc8 and dont change kernel. For now this is only one good config for JB with no bugs
Cheers for the quick reply, although whats that and what does it do?
EDIT: Jesus, never mind been a spanner today. Dont fancy putting a CROM on there as i have had issues before (different phone) and was a pain to get sorted. Guess i'll just have to put up with it.
Odp: Screen problems after update to 4.1.2
xxmc8 is official JB for our phone, now only in portugal but it run on all gt i8160.Flash it via odin (you need to take it from sammobile site ) and dont change kernel.
Download http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2214677
And flash as PDA using odin.
After flashing official JB everything work good
its already known bug in mb2 or mb4..
use the mc8 JB..
hope you'll fix the problem...

Hi, i have been looking for answers on the forum, and i learn new things but not how to fix this or what is causing it.
I have buyed i997 from a reseller. He sayd it doesnt work because it have bootloop, but i thinks that is not too much problem getting it working again, so i started searching for the pc drivers n software, then i find here in the forum the stock rom with and without root, i tested them both with odin and the bootloop stills present. I wipe cache and do a factory reset but it keep bootlooping, then think maybe if i update to latest AT&T rom, but no luck.Sometimes the phone just start and theres no bootloop but its very rare and most of the time when i get to the lock screen or setup manager suddently a gapps or something crash and my phome freezes and reboot. I flashed the carbon-jb-v1.6 and suddently it worked fine, no more bootloop and everything smooth,no crashes etc.. then i installed Facebook app and when i was ttyping a message the phone froze up and then restarts, and the bootloop came again, and im stuck on it, and when i pass it, which is very rare, i start typing info in the startup manager and the phone freezes and reboot.. I wipe/format cache, dalvik, factory reset, formated system and data before and after flashing the carbon rom again and it keeps bootlooping. Somebody have similar problems or know how to fix it?
Thanks
P.d. sorry for my bad english.

Thanks man, but you think it can be the power button? When i unplug the battery and put it again the phone doesnt turn on or something, and when it boot up when i lock the screen with the power button it works fine. I set the cpu governor to conservative and since yesterday i didnt have any problem, but sometimes the phone reboots when typing, i think its someting with the processor or when the phone have little ram or something.
Thanks.

If you ran the phone on complete stock GB or FROYO and you are getting boot loops, it may be a hardware issue.
One of the few things that will give you boot loop with the samsung logo while using the phone is the power button.
Either way, it's no big deal to open it and clean it up to see if the problem goes away.

Thanks bud, I will try cleaning the button. Also I want to ask, is there something to log everything when the phone start? Or something to test the hardware functionality?
Thank you for your time

Bootlog Uptime will keep a record of all boots from an Android OS perspective ... It will also track crashes... It won't track events outside of a complete restart (i.e. power button bootloops.. But those are pretty obvious when they occur)
For hardware testing, try Z Device Test... That won't tell you about the buttons though... If your screen turns on without pressing power button or from any other standard event (like receiving a text or a phone call), or the phone restarts by itself, time to get cleaning..

Hey thanks, that was very useful.. i risky miself to do a stock flrom flashing with pit checking the Nand erase all option in Odin 3.07, and the random reboots are gone . Now i have one question, Do i need an special kernel for JB 4.2.2? i plan to flash the Carbon-jb-v1.6 rom but i dont know if i need another kernel
I'm glad to hear you solved your issue.
For JB, use the kernel provided with the rom.

I had to reset my phone so I pulled the battery and everything went smoothly until I hit the lockscreen. The lockscreen will load up, but at a really slow pace, I let it sit like that for a while waiting for everything to load. Once the screen went black I hit the power/unlock key and the backlight will light up, but no image will appear on the screen. I am rooted running ICS

Since when does pulling the battery reset phone?
If you have recovery, try factory reset or fxz or flash a new ROM.
Sounds like a black screen kexec problem. And possibly an OC issue? What did you flash? More info goes a lot further for anyone to help.

First things first, can you reboot your phone? If so, try it and see whether it makes a difference.
If you're using BMM and haven't touched system 1 (stock ICS) and its always the same problem when you reboot I suggest you delete the rom. Delete the system partitions from BMM menu while booting.
If you aren't using BMM or if you flashed this rom on system 1 and cannot boot into anything, then fxz back to ICS.
Hope I helped, it would also be useful to give a bit more information as the previous two users have said

Well I reset my phone because it was running a bit slow so i figured a reset wouldn't hurt. I was running stock ICS just rooted, not OC'ed at all. I guess I was being a little too worried because it's running fine now. All I did was go and flashed ICS. Thanks for the help guys.
i think im ****ed.. i would like opininos suggestions..im desperate right now lol sounds bad i know however
first :my power button does not seem to want to work anymore
secondly: i noticed there was a basband and firmware update and i downloaded mf1 and the modem
third: i went into my quick setings since my power buton is broken and clicked on recovery mode and clicked ok
fourth: i waited .. the little blue words appeared in the top left corner as usual, and then it says samsung galaxy s3 and hangs for a minute then shuts off and turns back on.. continuing the loop.
possiblly important infomation;
my battery level was only 24 percent and i think if i charge it up or try to get it to charge that it may work out
your probably wondering what i do when my phone dies ..
well i put it on the charger and it turns on and the charging screen pops up with the battery
then i unplug the phone and it boots up without me touching the power button .
any information will be apprciated thanks ahead of time
BTW the phone was purchased the first day it was released i think the warrenty is expired
THANKS

The same power button issue happened to me a few weeks ago. I found a YouTube video of a guy who demonstrated slamming his phone on a table to fix it. Now I know what your thinking sounds stupid but it worked for me. Hold your phone so the side with the power button is flat on the table (this is how it needs to land). Then lift it and slam it down. I used a mouse pad to cushion the impact. Took like 20 tries but its been good ever since.
i forgot to mention.. i was planning on letting the phone completely die and then giving it some juice to see if that breaks the loop or sends it into normal boot mode i dont have the screw driver small enough to unscrew the back, if i did do you think holding the power button on the board will break the loop?

Trust me I know the feeling. I had soft bricked my phone after I tried to downgrade from 4.3 (before the fix was found) right after I thought I found the solution my phone was doing the power loop. Scared the crap out of me.
can i update my firmware and baseband with odin ? or do you reccommend me downloading clockwork mod and using that instead of teamwin ? i want slim kat .. seems alot better then this 4.1.3 bull**** lol .. althought the bone stock rom was very very very trusty.
my next question is should i instal the firmware first hen the modem then the rom i want ?

I personally like twrp more. yes you can update that stuff with odin i think there are links in the development section. As long as you do a factory reset and dalvik format you should beable to flash whatever you want now. It is recommended to be on at least 4.1.2 modem for ROMs. If you flash the 4.3 modem make sure it is only the modem and not the full firmware. You will be on a locked bootloader if you do.

The basebands available to flash are zips flashable only through recovery. Have been for a while now.
Hey all, how you doin?
I recently bought a used Desire S in very good (almost as new) condition, since a car drove over my last one and smashed it two years ago. I simply love this phone so I just had to get another one. It was factory locked, s-on, no sim-lock etc.
Bootloader stats at the moment (after unlock, s-off, downgrades and upgrades) are:
*REVOLUTIONARY*
SAGA PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-7.00.1002
RADIO-3831.19.00.110
eMMC-boot

My problem is following:
On my older device I had CM7 running, no problems whatsoever. On my newer Desire S, CM7 works just fine as well, but I simply can't flash CM10.1, 10.2 or 11 successfully. Flashing itself works just fine (I use 4EXT v1.0.0.6 RC1), but after the first reboot it always gets stuck at the white screen with the green HTC logo. I also flashed the boot.img files for each rom, also tried without flashing them. Tried factory resets after installations, before. I tried full wipe (all except SD), I tried normal wipe, nothing works. When I install stock 2.3.3 RUU with sense (2.10.401.5), it works just fine. When I update to 4.0.4 RUU, installation completes successfully, but then reboots and gets stuck at the white screen again. I don't even get boot loops or don't even see the CM logos. It seems like my device doesn't accept any android 4 version.
Does anyone know what could cause this? I'm searching for days and can't find anything.
Thanks.

And yes, this seems to have been the problem all along. I do have a Hitachi panel. I followed the instructions as stated in the first link, downloaded a compatible kernel to flash after the flashing of my rom and gapps. Then came the reboot, again stuck at the white screen but it seems as if the rom boots normally, just the white htc screen doesn't go away. The screen turns off after half a minute, but pushing the power button it turns on again (as if I unlock). When I put my finger on the screen, I hear the button sounds as if I was typing in the PIN, it also vibrates. So it's like the screen is just there and hides everything behind it. Any ideas why?

The thing is, there doesn't seem to be anything that's loading. It looks like the rom booted up normally, up to the "enter pin" screen, waiting for me to enter the pin. Which I can't do since the htc logo is still in front of it. Took the battery out a couple of times, flashed anew also, tried another release, too. Nothing works. I left it for over half an hour to see if anything chances, the screen just goes out after a minute as if the rom is there. Pushing the power button lights the screen up again (phone doesn't go out when the screen goes off). Maybe a different rom?

Tried, didn't boot at all. I can't stand seeing that HTC logo screen over and over again.
I can't help but wondering why it doesn't go away after flashing CM10+kernel, since it
seems to boot normally. Except I don't see it behind the white screen
OK, just flashed Balele V2.1 ROM, with the kernel for 4.0 version and it works!
So if anyone should ever have the same problem, here's a solution!

Hi guys. So I got a samsung galaxy s3 with a custom rom (Cyanogenmod I think 11 or 12) and the smartphone is completely in a bootloop due to the rom not working. I was obviously going to try to flash the stock firmware through ODIN and forget about CM but I have a problem: the phone everytime I plug the battery, it turns on showing the s3 screen and so and after a few seconds or a minute the screen goes black and goes back to the logo and it doesnt matter if in I'm download or recovery mode, those two things work fine but for a few seconds and then the smarphone loops back to the boot screen son in few words: my recovery and download mode are tecnically not working due to that. Is there any fix?
So the general thing is a s3 sch-i535 with CM in a bootloop.
ps: If need more specific information feel free to ask
