Hello guys,
I am using the MIUI V5 Rom since 4 days and I am very happy of it. Very fast, very stable, only minor issues (like Facebook app doesn't connect) but I'm getting frustrated with the Keyboard.
I love the layout and the colors of the Sogou Input Keyboard included in MIUI, but unfortunately, there is no language pack of any kind for it. I can live without word prediction, auto-filling etc. but I cannot live without special characters like "è" "à" "ù" and so on (I am Italian).
After trying many keyboards the one that feels almost like that one is A.I. Keyboard, but, I want the MIUI one!
So here's my request: is it possibile to include special characters in the MIUI Keyboard? How it can be done? I would do it myself, but I don't even know where to start.
Please give some advice.
Thank you!

There is a keyboard called TouchPal keyboard that has a skin of MIUI you should try it, is very good
Thank you, I have tried it and it is a very good keyboard. Now I'm sticking on a mod of AOSP keyboard that is very iPhone style, but quite good.

I've been searching a long time but so far still no luck.
I love the SlideIt keyboard but it looks too much like the old windows mobile.
It would be great if someone could make a skin that looked/felt a bit
more like htc sense or the great dusk theme for Swype.
Moved as not theme release.
You could PM of some of the devs who are creating themes.

SlideIT new skin
Dasur answer my mail:
Currently we are making new skin for SlideIT keyboard
It will be available in our next new version !
Great Day
Dasur Team
I just noticed that SlideIT v2.01 is now in the Market and is sporting a newer spanglier skin, and has native res on my Nexus One.
I really like its correction banner better than Swype's pop-up.
I don't think SlideIT handles punctuation and symbols as well as Swype, but it is tough to choose between them (SlideIT's correction banner may just clinch it for me since overall it could enable me to input quicker ...)
Slidit not recognising mail contacts
I been using slidit for a week and Works great on my TP2, but noticed an issue, when sending mail it ignores the intuitive contact list that appears when you input the first letters of the name and brings up the contacts mail that match, I have to switch between the full cuerty and it works then back to slideit, not a big problem but annoying.
I’m including the SlidIT demo cab if anyone wants to try it

an option to choose between graffiti and smilies and voice ?
I am looking for some options for the on screen keyboard on my HTC HD2. Does anyone have any suggestions for it ?
You can try Finger Keyboard 2.1 . To me it is the best among the others
Why? do you not like the plain look of windows mobile keyboard. I have swype as a second keyboard option.
Search DINIK, he has skinned the normal keyboard. all my friends envy the 3D eye candy keyboard... i definitely display that more than swype now give it a try!
Finger Keyboard 2.1 has skins for it an suports alot of languges
i think you will find it the most sutable kebord for your needs

Depends what youre after. If you like the standard k/board but want a better look, Dinik has a great skin and there are several skins floating around for this.
If you dont like the functionality of it, there are many alternative keyboards. For me i have tried Touchpal (great touch style, layout, fast etc), Swype (many threads and vids on this, no typing, more like sliding), SlideIT (similiar to Swype) etc.
I used to use swype, found out it was the reason my phone was crashing, now i'm using slidet which is similar,no freezing or crashing..

Curious, what version of Swype were you using. Just asking as i use both Swype and SlideIT, i can never make up mind so constantly changing between the 2. SlideIT flows better, faster, abbreviations etc but sometimes i type a certain words and SlideIT just doesnt get it, produces the ?? however type same words with Swype, no problem. SlideIT's ugly too so sometimes like the look of Swpe so ive used both for ages, no probs.
Only problem i had when i had both and Touchpal installed same time. On its own, it worked great but when i had all 3 installed, often the keyboard wouldnt respond so i had to soft reset. Uninstalled Touchpal, problem went away.
try latest Resco Keyboard
I've been following dexters froyo and recently took the leap and installed v1.3 of his ROM and am very very grateful TO him FoR helping us out with such great features and performance Of Android 2.2.1.
But my qualm is that THE default dictionary (in v 1.3) has some peculiar problems Of capitalizing some unwanted letters and wOrDs As you VSN (can) notice in this post.
This is proving TO BE a great nuisance FoR effectively utilizing my XT 720 productively.
MY PLEA:
Dear Dexter,
Please provide ys (us) with a clean and usable dictionary which would make this a great ROM.
Sincerely,
Your Fan.
You sure these words arent in your custom dictionary? There is no dictionary file at all with the included multitouch keyboard.

Yes. This is with a clean install Of Dexter's Froyo upgrading from stock 2.1 update 1 from Motorola.
And in THE language options in settings, I've tried both UK and YS (US) language options. Also removed all THE user defined wOrDs from within that menu.
Just try typing THE following wOrDs and let NE (me) know.

I get weird spelling suggestions too but it's the auto-correct that drives me up the wall. It seems to always want to put names in. Like "any" gets auto replaced with "Amy" etc. Really annoying but I don't know what to do about it.
Why not just use a 3rd party keyboard? I prefer SwiftKey.
JM2C
Edit: Swiftkey.net has a beta (VIP) program.

There is a keyboard setting that says to use names from your contact list as auto correct suggestions, I don't remember if its in the multitouch keyboard or another Ive used though.

Am using the Android 2.3 keyboard by Steven Lin available on the market. Looks good and is a pleasure to use
I've used like everything from the latest beta of swiftkey to swype to 8pen to gingerbread keyboard, but the multitouch keyboard has the best feeling and spacing to it imo - and I make the least mistakes with it. Wish dictionary would work.
hey guys,
i'm new to the TPT and i do like it a lot so far. root went well and bloatware is down. since there are so many apps that are device specific, i was curious if there are any different soft keyboard apps that you could recommend. on the SGS2 i am using swype, so when i switch devices, i'm somehow missing that a little.
possible to install other keys and if so, anything to recommend? maybe even something for the stylus? (i figure that either my handwriting sucks, or the detection for regular writing just sucks)
sorry for beginners questions, but i couldn't find anything about it yet ..
I tried several and settled on SwiftKey Tablet X. Works best for me.
I use Thumb Keyboard. It has a split design and has numbers and arrows. It works good with this wide fellow.
I use it on my phone, but was disappointed that it didn't translate well to tablet, for me.
I use Swype and like it a lot
I use FlexT9, it does swype as well as dictation and some other nifty stuff.
Swift Key tablet version is my favorite, not to much of a fan of Swype but thats just my personal preference. its either stock android or swift key
If you like the full keyboard like I do, i recommend the Hacker's Keyboard. Not exactly sure why its called that but it uses a full QWERTY keyboard with arrow keys. Another is the Logitech Keyboard (still in beta but I havent had any issues) that has a full QWERTY that also you can swipe across the keyboard to show another keyboard that doubles as a technical keyboard or calculator.
If you like lots of buttons, is more open to customizing (button row/column height/width adjustments), either one would work great.

I prefer Thumb Keyboard too. I like that you can choose different themes for it. And for the most part, the themes they offer match a lot of flashable themes/roms for different devices.

+1 for Hacker's Keyboard. I usually use my tablet in the folio case so I have a nice hardware keyboard. However there have been plenty of times where I have had it out of the folio and been editing a document or posting on a forum and the hackers keyboard has come in extremely handy. It would be something I was willing to spend money on, but since it is free, it's an even better deal.

Hackers Keyboard ist the best, it is for free you can use 5 row style (numbers and letters) and you can download different languages for auto correctur.
In portrait mode I usually use Swype, which is great even at 10inch!
In landscape mode and for things like SSH/Terminal, I use Hacker's Keyboard, which feels almost like the real thing
Dueces beat me to it. HACKERS KEYBOARD for the closest simulation of a desktop keyboard (I've) found so far. Not only are the keys big and bold, perhaps more importantly they are scalable (as is the entire keyboard).
coydroid
SwiftKey Tablet X for me as I use SwiftKey 3 on my SGS3 and I just can't go back to anything else anymore...I might have to give this hacker's keyboard a crack though, thanks for the suggestion.
For those who like Swype, I strongly recommend the TouchPal keyboard. Its implementation of the swype input method is terrific.

Missing Persian Language !
Swype, SwfitKey and other good keyboards all have the persian!
i absolutely loved touchpal but the update is missing hebrew and arabic - please tell me how to get these back because i have to have them. unfortunately i must switch to something else if i can't get them, so is there anyway to get the language packs?
Many improvements like learn from twitter and messages, thank God the euro symbol is present again.... The only complain I have is the font you use in the keys is just too thick and ugly looking this can be solve by using a skin but the default skin in the beta was perfect why change the font?

hi touchpal i have these suggestions:
add a option for specify the ms time of alternate keys popup (for example from 100 ms to 500 ms)
put to enter key the alternate key with smiles and add more selectable smiles
when i start to write, suggest the initial words and remove only the links button (keep the setting key and the hide key)
let me know if you agree with me
Loved it. Using it for a year now.... does it support English handwriting?

This is the best keyboard. Great job! :good:
Is it possible you can swipe to space-bar so it can space if for me. I don't like stopping
Thanks for this, just replaced my Swype 3.26.
Swype got worse with every new beta, finally I found a good replacement :good:
A suggestion, a dedicated numbers-only block like on swype when you long-press the numbers button.

I have a feeling in the beta thread there were comments from some that the font was too thin and that they'd like it bolder. Maybe a lot of people submitted reports to them asking this?

I think when enter normal text etc you don't need the spacebar. You just swipe the first word, then lift and start swiping the second word. If selected in setting the space should be automatic. I do find in some circumstances it doesn't enter a space, like when typing a search query into dolphin browser I have to enter the space. But that's probably cause you also enter web addresses there which wouldn't have the space.
Still would like a second set of characters on the second row of letters. But I'll live with it.
Miss changjie prediction and simplified changjie, otherwise it will easily be my default keyboard...

Loving this so much!
Sorry, man - good keyboard, worst support. So many questions and no answers at all. There's no new languages for a long time. I think that's very important to conquer new markets. There's a markets with very few good keyboards (especially for free) and you miss them. One of them is Bulgaria. The English language market is very dense and populated and it's hard to make a break there. So think once again before just skip my post.
Congrats @Touchpal.
Also thank you for Turkish prediction power update for the final version, it really works good.
