Hi Guys,
I try to connect my external hard disk in my phone using stick mount and my mobile hangs. Is it possible to connect my phone to a external hard disk? Is there any other app i can use to connect to the hard disk. I am using OTG connect kit.
Hard disk available in 3.0 and 5.0 and above .. its not allow to connect with mobile or any other low device that cant hold .. pendrives are 2.0 data transferable so thats the reason u cant connect more den 2.0 data transfer device .. try another hard disk .. there are so many hard disk are available in the market which is data transferable amount of 2.0 hit thanks if i helped

Hi,
What is 2.0? is it usb 2.0 or 2mbps data transfer speed? tell me any hard disk names, so that i can try.
actually 3.0 and 5.0 is a series of hard disks . yeah So many hard disk are available in market but i dont really know about that which one is better for u .. try trancend or seagate ( it has very low memory rather then other heavy hard disk drives .. hope it will work in your case

You need a y-cable to power the hard drive externally. The phone itself will never be able to power the harddrive. I use it on the road sometimes to transfer movies to and from my phone.
This has nothing to do with the hard drive being 2.0 or 3.0. The drive needs power to work. The phone can't provide enough power.

U need a cable that can power the hard disk....
I have made one for myself and use it with my WD hardisk
If u want i can explain how i hav made it...
Or u can just get it from market,
bt i like my own creations so i made it on my own
If it's helping you it must be thanked

Hi,
Please explain to me i would like to try it.

I have one of those cheapo China USB adapters.
It works fine recognizing my storage when i hook up a pendrive but now i tried it with an external 2,5mm HDD and it didn't get recognized. im guessing the tab doesn't provide the HDD with enough power for it to run.
here my question: is it just my cheapo china usb adapter? does someone have the official samsung one and could try it out and see if external drive (without power chords) are supported?
would be awesome!
No, it won't work, there's simply not enough amps to power that.
I suggest getting a powered USB hub then making a battery pack for it (I'll get around to taking a picture of mine - I use it with my N900 and 8.9 with USB HDDs, DVD drives and USB data cards.)
yeah i imagined sth like that.
i have a usb hub but i was hoping to just use the drive by itself.
would be interesting to see your battery pack hack! please post some pictures!
Looking forward to seeing this battery pack
I have tried it a couple of times but the battery pack i made did not last very long
Why would you need a hub? Most come with a dual USB cable. Plug the main one into the tab adapter and the other one into a battery pack with USB. Should be a touch less cumbersome and you don't need to build anything, unless you really want to.

The drive must also be formated with FAT32. The GT Tab won't read NTFS.

Wondering why people say the lack of sd card is no go when theirs usb on the go
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
usb-otg is nice but you have to carry around at least one more "device".
a sdcard is installed "once" and you never have to think about it again.
Hello, the answer for your question is, when the device you are using acts as a host for any of external storage, the *battery drain* is alot faster than normal condition and obviously you cannot charge it at the same time. The phone can withstands that condition for about 20-30 minutes. So the USB OTG Is a no go as compared to SDCard.
If battery is not the issue, go for it!!!
Also if you are thinking of forcefully adding OTG capability to your device using root permissions, THINK TWICE. It may cause damage/ burning of internal hardware.
Hope I helped you.

I really thought USB OTG was nice, until I realized that you would have no way to charge to device while watching a movie.
If you're listening to songs then it's a hassle to have that extra wire and drive sticking out from the phone.
However, USB OTG is still very useful for being able to have a keyboard to type with when you don't have access to a computer

i'm looking at getting this 1tb external hard drive and using it with my OTG cable, but i'm not sure if the phone will detect that there is that much space available.
here's the link:

I don't think it's gonna work cause such a hard drive needs power and it didn't work for me

i thought about the file system too. i read that i'd have to separate it into a bunch of different partitions
