Is the Seidio 1600mAh battery the only one out there that will work with the multimedia dock? It seems to me that a larger battery could be combined with a slightly bulging back cover and still fit in the dock. Anyone seen anything like that? 1600 mAh just doesn't seem worth the expense.
Jason
I have the seido 3000 mah. It will fit into the standard desk dock. It angles out a bit, but it works without a problem.
Wow! I'm really surprised that it fits. Hopefully it isn't bending the usb port too much. Thanks!

Hi Jason,
I am in the same boat. I have a Samsung Epic 4G and 3 of these docking station chargers (home, office, shop). They are Samsung Multimedia Desktop Docks.
I am probably going to go with the Seidio extended 3000 mah battery.
Does it put an excessive stress on the phone port?
Thank you.
I've been using it for about a week without an issue. The angled top of the back cover allows the phone to slide into the charger. It was a little snug to slide it in, but didn't take any excessive force or bending of the port.

Do you have any pics you could post that show it in the dock. I saw the sprint deskdock while in one of their stores this weekend.

i opened up the dock and saw i can use a dremel and cut out where the battery comes out to
Seido 3000 in dock
Here is a picture. Excuse the quality.
I also want this but I want to mod the car dock as well. I am just a little nervous. I was going to attempt drilling the whole to use the camera while driving and then wondered if the slide option will still work right. I am really nervouss to mess with it for an extend battery though even worse.
I never considered placing the phone in the dock where it hangs halfway off the dock like that, but I'm doing it now...for the day. I will be dremeling away the necessary material to make it fit in the dock as it should, I don't like it putting pressure on the port like that. I bought some extra docks, found some on eBay for $10 each shipped, so if I destroy it, so be it. Once completed, I'll post up some pics.
Once the powers that be get TV Out working (fingers crossed), I'm going to gut a dock and mold in a charging port and seperate 3.5mm connector so that I can use it to feed a signal to the deck in my vehicle. It's nice that using the dock feeds sound through the MicroUSB, but I've also noticed that sometimes I get static from charging and it doesn't allow me to adjust the bass while using VooDoo Sound Control.
Is your "speaker line out" on the back of your docking station working.?. if so, how did you get it to work.?.
Thanks.

It only says "one x" but I would guess since there is enough play to hold the phone in a case that the extra fraction in length of the att wouldn't be a problem.

Cool product, still wish it used the POGO PINs.
Me too... I want a dock that does charging and audio out with no connecting. of wires.
I have the stock HTC One X car mount and it sucks. This looks much better.
The stock relies on these grooved sides to hold the phone in, and when you slide in the phone sometimes you have to wiggle to get the USB to plug in. Further, because it holds the phone pretty tightly, it's not easy to remove the phone. I have to use both hands to get my phone out of the car mount.
just brought this got to wait 10 days as its coming from china.
has anyone got one yet and got any feedback?
I was willing to pay the £40 for the htc official one but ultimately
i didnt go for that one because i didnt like the idea of having to
take the case on and off each time.
this ones meant to work with or without and was cheaper only £25.
ill post a review when i receive it.......

You'll need a Motorola phone to accomplish that. They send audio out the USB port of the car dock

Just received my KiDiGi dock yesterday. It's very well made and works great with the Rock slim case I have on my HOX. It comes with a usb cable and charger, but it doesn't appear to be wired to auto enable car mode when docked. No big deal...that's what NFC tags are for!
It's very similar in design to the iBolt dock that Sprint is selling for the EVO LTE. They both have the insert to work with or without a case on the phone, and a top latch to keep it secure. If the KiDiGi were easier to come by, I would highly recommend it. I ordered it from 4u-mobi back on May 24th, so it took about 3 weeks to make it here.

I received my dock as well. It does enable car mode for me, I'm not sure why it's not for you (are you on a Sense based rom?). I have a Casemate Barely There on my HOX and it works fine with the dock. The dock seems to be able to accomodate cases slightly thicker than the Barely There as well (but not much thicker). The headphone jack and camera are exposed and easy to get to. The top "flap" that keeps the phone in place snaps down with a satisfying thud. Very good build quality. The charger that comes with it is a single USB, 1.0A charger. Pretty standard. The usb cable that comes with it is one of those looped cables (like old corded phone cables) so if your charging port is more than 2 feet or so away from your mount it's gonna put some stress on the usb cable. There's also a little cavity underneath the phone on the mount that lets you wedge your finger in there to aid in getting the phone out of the dock, very nice touch.
Note: If you use the plastic dash mounting disk, the adhesive pad on the bottom needs at least 24 hours to set properly. I tried using the mount after letting it sit overnight and the adhesive was barely holding on, but the next day it was rock solid.
Just ordered it from htcpedia. $33 shipped.
The sprint dock is from kidigi but sprint just paid them to put their logo on there.

I was mistaken. CleanROM DE doesn't have the htc car app. I switched to SE and it does indeed auto-switch to car mode when docked.
Just got my KiDiGi dock today, very happy with my purchase. The arm is a little bulky and flimsy but the dock fits on my other arm perfectly so I could care less. Fits great with both my Mybat hybrid TPU case and my Diztronic TPU case. Highly recommended.
Just received mine as well, I don't consider the arm flimsy, though. Tighten it up and its sturdy as anything. Nice looking dock, fits with my barely there, and enables car mode. Just wish I could set music to a third party app, or figure out how.
And that's the aux cable wrapped around the arm.

An update on mine...
The adhesive disk for mounting on your dash kinda sucks...at least mine did. It could not hold up the mount while the phone was docked. I had the mount itself set at a 90 degree angle and after a bit of driving the adhesive disk just started peeling off.
My solution to this was getting some mounting puddy and using that as an adhesive plus setting the dock on my dash in a way that allows the mount itself (where you dock the phone) to rest on the dash, thereby alleviating any excessive torque being put on the dash disk.
I bought a Samsung Infuse OEM vehicle navigation dock a while back for my GSII Skyrocket and it work OK but the Skyrocket was always a little loose.
Today I put my Nexus 4 in it just to see if it fits and it does! It's a little tight but the phone snaps in and out with ease. Also the micro USB on the dock lines up perfectly with the dock. All you need is a Micro USB car charger and you are set! The dock also has a Mini jack for audio out but I haven't tested that yet. I would be shocked if that worked. I don't use it though because I stream audio to my car via bluetooth.
Here's a link to the dock so you know what it looks like, you can find it on ebay pretty easily.
Highly recommend it!

I've been using an Arkon universal windshield mount with my NS for a long time and am getting a second (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875999868) for my N4 (giving the Wife the NS), which is only 19 bucks w/ free shipping at Newegg. I've been extremely satisfied with it.
Mine has held up extremely well. It is easy to get the phone in and out; can swivel horizontal or vertical; has space for usb connector to car; holds tight, but doesn't leave a mark on the phone (totally firm and secure without being worrying at all); is universal so it will fit my next Nexus/Car; and has a nice flat surface to slap an NFC tag onto (turn Bluetooth on, switch to car mode). The only very minor issue (a non-issue really) I've had is that it has popped off of the windshield maybe 3 times in the past 2 years, but never with a phone in it or when I was driving; I'm pretty sure this is inevitable for window mounts. It only takes a few seconds to reattach and it is good to go.

I bought one of these from RAM, along with the extra clampy hardware from RAM to mount it.
It should be showing up today so we will see how well it works. They make good stuff, but it can be pricey.

Please keep us updated. I’m also looking for a universal car mount
I have been searching for a universal type car mount that can fit both my Nexus 7 (in a Seidio Active case without cover) and also fit the Nexus 4 with a case/bumper or whatever. The compromise is that the Nexus 4 cannot be charged while in this mount. The search goes on I guess, but I am quite happy with it at this point.
I have found the Xenomix mount from Korea. Seems like the only place I can find it was from ebay. It took a good 10 business days to air ship from Korea to me in Texas. Anyway, the mini review and pics are below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2052593
Hey guys, I bought this Nexus 4 dock on Amazon and received it today. It's specifically designed for the Nexus 4 and fits like a glove. It is currently OOS but this dock looks exactly the same and is $10 cheaper than what I paid. D'oh! The dock works with or without a case thanks to a little insert that changes the size of the dock port. I tested the dock with my Diztronic TPU case and without.
What I like about the dock:
Plain and understated design with no logos or blinky LEDs
Matches the Nexus 4 with or without case perfectly
Works with or without a case
The N4 slides onto the micro usb port with little hassle. I think this will end my attempts to put in the micro usb cable upside down in the dark before falling asleep.
Surprisingly, the speaker doesn't sound too muffled despite being covered by the dock. I was able to comfortably have a conversation over speakerphone and watched a couple YouTube videos without issue.
You can lightly tap things on the screen without it tipping over
Charging works fine thus far. You can also plug it into a computer USB port to sync stuff
Cheap, at least compared to a Qi charger
What I don't like:
You need to hold the base with one hand to pull out the N4. It's made out of hollow plastic. A heavier, more solid feel would be nice, but the base would probably have to be made out of iron to slide out the N4 with one hand.
Included USB cable is short, around 3 feet long
Included wall charger works, but looks and feels cheap. I just plugged in my OEM charger instead
Here's a flickr set of some additional pics I took of the dock.
I'd highly recommend this little guy. IMO, current Qi chargers aren't worth the high cost for the extra convenience they provide. This dock strikes a better balance of convenience and price, and doesn't scrap too much on quality where it counts.
Looks decent. I had something similar for my old Evo. Be interesting to compare to the new Orb one. I just like the idea of magnets doing the work and not worrying about misalignment of the usb port.

Agreed, the orb charger looks ideal. That said, I don't think that this dock will hurt my micro usb connector - I can dock it with far less fuss than connecting the wire manually. But maybe that's just me and my poor hand-eye coordination. :highfive:
This looks ideal. Does anyone have a link to order one from Hong Kong? I have much better luck ordering from there to Canada than I do from the US...
Not sure if this is the same dock, but looks almost identical: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KiDiGi-Ne...520772?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2327426fc4
A question to the OP, I noticed from your pics that you were able to use the dock whilst the Nexus was in a Distronic case...was this a comfortable fit? I have bought the Ringke Fusion which is similar in shape to the case you're using.

I own 2 of the RND docks, one for an HTC Inspire and one for the Galaxy Note. I went to buy one for the Nexus 4 but it was out of stock then Google had the Orb so I ordered that instead (a lot more expensive but I need to keep the phone for 2 years at least so might as well enjoy it). I really do like these docks, they are very easy to drop your phone into, holds it at a very nice angle and I have never worried about damaging my USB port with it (unlike the Samsung Car Dock which always worried me).
I may still buy one of these for travel as they are small and seem to pack up well. I cant speak to this one specifically as I don't own it but if it is anything like the other two I have it is a very well build product. The one thing that has me a bit concerned is the statement about the cables. The cable they shipped with the old ones were definitely not short, I use one in my bedroom and it is about 6' long. They used to ship a long charge only cable and a shorter data cable, maybe they stopped doing that.
@rmgill Just wanted to thank you again for the recommendation. I bought the cheaper version you linked to in the OP and it appears to be the same as the more expensive one you bought. Very nice dock and killer price. Unfortunately, they're out of stock or I'd pick up another one for my desk at work.
I have a Ringke slim case on it and it slides into the dock with just the right amount of tension. Doesn't feel flimsy or particularly cheap and the back supports it well enough that I don't worry about the microUSB port getting damaged. Definitely recommend it.

It does not fit, but you can shave down soft plastic of the iBolt connector pretty easily with a x-acto/hobby knife. Or any sharp knife really. Took me 1-2 minutes to do. See my post with pictures here:

I'm a big fan of these

It mounts securely and it solid and it's easy to clip and unclip the phone one handed. Adjustment is also one handed via push buttons and you can rotate it to and from landscape without changing your adjustments. My S4 will be my third phone to occupy the mount.

I've tried all the better model of car docks and the Craigsdocks dock is by far the best, IMO.
http://www.craigsdocks.com/samsung-galaxy-s3-s4-note-ii-car-dock/
Charges, secure holding. Can put the phone in and remove it, all with one hand. No putting it in the dock and then plugging in the USB cable. Nope, this one is all done in one easy motion with just one hand.
A bit more $$, but it will work with any Samsung Galaxy phone. S2, S3, S4, Note II. So it's pretty much future proof as long as Samsung keeps putting the USB port on the bottom of the phone.
It also works with extended batteries and large cases. And billet aluminum. I just can't really say enough good things about this dock.

That's exactly what I was going to do, right flat on the base with industrial strength Velcro tape - don't use screws, just Velcro that thing right to it and it should work just fine that way, the CraigsDock has a very flat base on the back of it and would work great with the flat face of the ProClip vehicle mount! Just make sure to get all the screws set first, obviously, or else you'll have to peal back the one side of Velcro just to get to it. Use Velcro tape and not double-sided tape because then you can't work with it quickly or switch out components when you get a new phone as easily! PROTIP :good:
Has anyone here tried out a magnetic mount?
I really like the iOttie One Touch XL that I just got. It has a very strong suction cup and an easy one click lock/release mechanism.
I got it on a sale from Meritline.
I'd also tried another iOttie that's more compact. While the S4 fits it, it's near the end of the range so it's more of a two handed operation to put the phone in the holder. I much prefer the Easy One Touch linked above.
I've had an iottie. Works ok but with my galaxy s4 my phones has fell out a couple times. Worth the extra money for ibolt
