[Q] How can I increase system partition size - LG Optimus 3D

I've just flashed the new V30A kdz and I'm testing the new rom.
Everything is ok, the rom feels very light, but I'm lacking space in "system" partition.
For the V28B rom, xbsall created a "large version" with increased space in both system and data partitions.
My data partition is ok, increasing it would just be wasting internal sd space, but I would like to increase the system partition.
How can I do it?

Install the xball's large v28b rom version first and after install bootloader and recovery and then flash the v30a zip from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190261.
Little precision, before install bootloader and recovery you will have to enter in the stock recovery by pressing vol- and power and do a factory reset from there, reboot (that takes a while) and once rebooted go in setting/storage and erase internal memory. You can now flash bootloader, recovery and zip. I hope i have been clear enough.

Or just use my prerooted version here

Thanks guys, but I want to increase only the system partition.
xbsall's large partition bin rom has both system and data partitions increased, but I'm ok with the default data size.
I've done some searching already, and I'll try to use the "parted" command in terminal to make the change myself.

[Q] Partitions resizing

I have the latest stock Gingerbread ROM, AmonRA, ROQ kernel and I'm unsing link2SD.
I'm getting short of space on my data partition and I would like to recover some space from my cache partition (that is now 64Mb big).
Is there anyway to move some Mb from /cache to /data?
Possibly recovering a whole NAND backup.
I saw scripts for "Cusotm MTD Partitions" but they all looked for different phones.
Thank you very much

u can't change internal partitions in p500. but u can change the size of SD-ext partition that link2sd uses to store apps. U can do that with the help of ur recovery. But remember that changing size of sd-ext partition will format ur whole sd crd. so make the necessary backups

I'm running out of space in /data partition, /sd-ext is ok.
I see I can nandroid backup all partitions: can't I edit them somehow and then recovery them back?
BTW: I would use a Windows partition resizing software on the SD mounted in my PC to do what you meant, that should not lose any data

when u backup ur partitions it just means u r backing up the content of ur partitions as a whole. So editing them won't do any good.
instead flash an app2sd script which moves dalvik cache to sd too. like this one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668247
My dalvik cache is already on SD, using LInk2SD; the problem is the /data content; it would be great to move the data to SD too
I also used link2sd till recently and switched to S2E (simple2ext) from the market but I think it only works for cm7 and cm7 based roms.
If you use a lot of apps including games I would suggest making the ext partition 1gb when using set script.
Backup your apps with titanium backup, wipe the phone clean, flash the rom.
Install S2E, open it.
Press menu key and go to Settings, and enable “Mount as ext4″ (mandatory).
Close and reboot.
Open S2E again and select the folders you want to move to SD card. I recommend selecting Applications, Application Data and Dalvik cache. Leave Private apps and Download cache unselected.
Reboot and changes will take effect. (This reboot will be slower than usual as your dalvik cache will be rebuilt.)
Done.
Now you can restore from the titanium backup and you shouldn't have any more problems with space.
p.s.: don't backup or restore link2sd, it will mess with s2e
You mean it will move the /data folders too, in contrary to Link2SD?

Yes
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
Is it correct that, in the steps you listed, the old sd-ext partition is not needed? S2E won't read it, right?

The sd-ext partition is very needed. that's where all your apps and data and dalvik cache will go. S2E works basically like Link2SD only it moves data as well, to the same place.
When I said wipe the phone, I meant formating the system, internal and ext partitions + dalvik cache so you have a clean slate and bug free installation.

Use the script mentioned here. it moves ur \data partition to ext. it will give u ample amount of storage. and remember that u should increase the size of ext partition only if u have class 6 sdcards or else ur phone will suffer serious lag
Sorry, I meant the content of the sd-ext partition before this upgrade: I have to reinstall all apps, I don't need the old installations in the sd-ext, right?
Thank you!

Remove all your partitions..
Then flash the ROM..
As the ROM is in band memory card removal won't affect the ROM..
Now take a backup of your card..
Create partition through recovery ..
Use link2sd only not anything else..
via Apache Helicopter
I don't understand
You mean delete partions flash rom copy sdcard files make partions from recovery?

[Q] Save files before flashing

In windows, I'd use a partition; in android, are there any folders (like /boot?) that are not deleted after I flash factory images (wiping data obviously)?
I'd like to know this because I have a lot of music, and don't want to have to re-copy it to my phone every time I flash it. (unfortunately N5 does not support sd cards)
My intention was to copy the music to /smth, will it get wiped?

There are only 1 partition which has a filesystem and does not get wiped after the factory reset. But it is only a 16 mb partition with a free space of 10 mb. It is mounted as /persist

There is, but complicated. Because of its location on the emmc you have to edit 6-8 partitions or more. And if there is something which uses the emmc in raw mode and not by the partitions then you could have problems. You will also lose the ability to flash stock rom.
The whole thing is unecessary if you are using twrp recovery and not cwm, because twrp will not fotmat the /data partition. It will just remove every folder and file except the /data/media/0 folder which contains all the files you have on the internal storage.

No.
If you do factory reset in twrp then it will not delete that folder. It will not protrect you if you flash stock rom with fastboot with wipe.

Flashing without wipe will keep my applications and everything, so it's usually just useless ( not worth ); and flashing with wipe will delete any folders. Are you saying there's no way :/

Listen. If you use TWRP and do WIPE in TWRP it will not delete /data/media/0 folder. So with twrp you can flash roms with wipes without worrying to lose your music and pictures.
If you flash stock rom with fastoot you lose everything.
If you flash rom with wipe in cwm you lose everything.

Nice! This is very useful, I didn't know it was possible to flash factory images through a recovery; so I'll just have to move my music there and it'll stay forever. Just asking now, what will happen to the recovery (which should be stored in /recovery?) if I flash with fastboot, will it get wiped aswell? Thank you so much for your answers

That /data/media/0 folder is the folder of the internal storage. So your music is already there. To flash stock rom in twrp recovery you will need a flashable zip version of the stock rom. These does not contains recovery image so twrp will persist.
You cant flash stock rom from google's site in twrp.

Its complicated. That recovery folder if it exists, on stock roms there arent any folder called recovery, is a temporary folder. It is extracted from the kernel's ramdisk. As the its name says it is a ramdisk so if you turn off your phone it is gone and all its content.
Get a stock rom in a flashable zip. Do a wipe in twrp and flash the stock rom.

How you can fix error 70 upon installing gapps over a custom rom

OK I'm sure some of you have at least run into this problem when installing gapps over a custom ROM and I can tell you how to fix it!
after flashing your custom ROM be in twrp and from the main screen select: mount>select system>press home button>wipe>advanced wipe>select system>click repair or change file system>resize file system>swipe to resize. After that you are almost done, go back to main screen and flash the gapps zip and congratulations you got gapps successfully installed, if any errors when booting or bootloops make sure you try this again EXACTLY how i said. If this helped you please hit the thanks button ?
error 70 = no enough storage
Storage is storage and full is full... In most cases /system is almost full. This partition contains your OS. The GApps installer.zip is not an image file! It installs single files and files need storage. If there is not enough free storage then you should delete some other apps.
Resizing doesn't make sense because for the additional new storage on /system you lost storage on another partition. In most cases userdata.

When you install gapps it installs it to the os partition and as such makes sense as of why it's a system app. Besides this worked for me Everytime
Well, I tried it with my Nexus 5 and lineage 14.1, Gapps 7.1 Nano. Didn't work! Got the same old Error 70.
And the answer is .... use a gapps.config.txt file. You can include/exclude the packages you want in gapps. This reduces the size needed in the recovery partition so it will fit. If you want to know how much space you have to work with, open a terminal and as su, enter df -h and see what the system partition is using and how much free space you have.
Worked for me!

Data partition shows 0mb. Help.

I flashed a stock rom (replaced the stock recovery with twrp though), it was stuck at the Alcatel screen, so I went into twrp. I tried reparing, resizing, changing file system of data, system, and cache (which all showed 0 mb), then cache and system got fixed and it said ext4. However, data still shows 0 mb and despite trying all kinds of fixes (like wiping, doing a factory reset, changing file system to ext2, ext3, ext4, fat etc. which all fail) I found online it's still the same. When I tried flashing userdata using SP Flash Tool, it said "not enough space". I found two scatter files (attached to this post) but they seem to differ.
What should I do?

How is it TWRP related? SP Flash Tool says it can't flash user data because there is no space because /data is seen as a 0mb partition.

That makes sense, I'll try adding the tag. Do you have any idea how I can check that or decrypt the partition? It looks like not only data but many other partitions aren't visible as well like /system.
...
It looks like I can't edit tags afterwards.
Looks like there's a problem with userdata
You have to format it, and then reflash the stock rom
Open sp flash tool
Load your scatter file
Go to the format section at the top of spflash tool
Select manual format flash
Select emmc user.
As the begin address of userdata is
0xABD80000
Input it in begin address box
As the size of userdata is
0x124D80000
Input this is the format length box
Click start
Flash the stock rom and reboot
I got these values form your scatter file
