[Q] G Maps lag to update location of blue arrow on map - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I searched the forum but could not find an answer for my specific question regarding google maps.
I have a SGS3 with CM10 ROM and when I use google maps I get a location fine but when I'm driving the blue arrow on the map (not in navigation mode) lags about a minute or more to update its location.
I prefer to use the maps instead of navigation because I can easily see traffic and other roads I could use instead of using the Navigation.
I know the location on maps used to be updated within seconds before but I'm not sure if it became slow after CM install or Maps update.
Did google added this lag in latest version?
Or is there a way make maps update location more frequent? (as a note in navigation mode it works fine).
Thanks,
Sbre

navigator 1.0 vs. google maps navigation

what if any is the difference between these two? i had navigator 1.0 on dc2.0.7.2 then when i flashed the treve jit enabled rom over top that app went away, even though the two look very similiar i liked the way the navagator 1.0 had a lil glow around the arrow that marks your gps location. the google map navigation doesnt have this . ive searched this forum and the internet but cant find the navigator 1.0 apk anywhere. whats the deal with this? thanks....
Navigation is just a shortcut to Google Maps Navigation. I have it on fresh and I never ever use it and wonder what the point even is.

I suppose so you can skip the whole google maps step.
I noticed that maps in navigator doesn't seem to quit properly when I exit out of it with the back arrow. Still shows high % of battery use many hours later. Fresh 2.0d

Does anyone know where I can get Google Navigator?

I noticed on my friend's new Evo that there is a Navigator app, not Google Maps or Google Navigation, but the Navigator one.
This one has the large buttons for use in the car when you open it.
I have flashed to Baked Snack, and I don't see this app anywhere on my phone, can anyone post a backup copy or a link to where I can get it?
The latest Google Maps includes a "Navigation" icon that is just a shortcut to Google Nav. It sounds like you are talking about the car dock (or whatever it is) icon that is from HTC.
Yeah, I want the HTC car dock app, would I be able to back it up off my friend's phone?
Anyone able to help me out? Would really like to have this app for safer driving...
Argh I need it too.. I lost my shortcut installing a new rom and I don't have the HTC Navigator.. the blue arrow shortcut.
I am using an app called Custom Car Home. I prefer it because it has the large icons but you can customize which apps you want to link to (including music and Sprint Navigation which is what I was looking for). It also has multiple sliding pages if you have more apps than will fit on one screen and will rotate in landscape mode. There are also preferences to auto-activate bluetooth and speakerphone and auto-deactivate wifi. The only downside is that the icons are stretched so they look pixelated. Still more pros than cons in my opinion.
Part of Fresh's removed APK's folder.
Thank you bedoig, big ups!

Google Maps 5.0

So Google just updated Maps on the market to 5.0, and the vector-based drawing engine is soooo much smoother than the old raster-based engine.
However, I've been trying to find a way to "tilt" the map down into 3D view, and can't seem to find a way since our X10 lack multi-touch and the gesture is a two-finger slide. According to Google's own gesture notes under Help in the app, the X10 should support the tilt gesture (unless of course Google messed up in listing the X10 there).
Anyone figured out how to tilt the map in Google Maps 5 on your X10?
If not, anyone willing to create some hacks that add buttons to the interface to mimic MT gestures?
-edit-
Here (http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1079043) is the Google support article listing the X10 as "support panning, zooming, and tilting gestures only."
Here (http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=1079041) is the Google support article showing that to 'Tilt' the view into 3D, you perform a two-finger vertical slide, something impossible without multi-touch support.
Really is it so much nicer?!
One time I tried to update Google Maps (during the 1.6 period) and I did it "illegally" using Market Enabler because this download is not available in my country.
Right after that my battery started sucking like crazy and the Spare Parts app showed that the new update of Google Maps was responsible.
So I restored to previous version (everything back to normal) and I never updated Gmaps ever again! But with that post I am sooo tempted to try!
I have to admit the google maps is a lot faster, but i am also wondering how to get it to 3D

I've edited my OP with a link to the article that shows to get into 3D view you need to perform a multi-touch gesture.
I've also posted a request on for Brut Google Maps (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630887) to include alternatives to the MT gestures for tilt and rotate.
Only a few phones support the new 3D feature. The X10 is not on the list. Neither is the HTC Desire. You need a new phone with a 'real' multitouch display like the Nexus S.
I can not find. whether there is a apk.

Actually, if you read the first link in my OP, you'll see that it's multi-touch gestures that are not supported on the X10 and Nexus One, not 3D as you stated. This makes sense as the X10 lacks MT support, and the Nexus One (as well as the HTC Desire which is also on that list) have MT axis crossing issues that would prevent the rotate gesture from working.

It showed up form me as an update available for Maps in the market.
What country are you in?
east europe
click the icon in the top right corner for compass mode search for san fransisco zoom in... badabing!!! 3D
This also supports cached maps for offline nav apparently, anyone know if it would be possible for instance to download full UK maps to pre cache them? Data use is bad otherwise using google nav, dont fancy driving up and down every road in the country at a set zoom and view to pre cache myself! lol

Car Panel without Premium Nav?

I have been bouncing around testing many different ROM's and finally settled on Core Droid Froyo build.
What I noticed is that the car panel app now appears to be tied to a Premium Nav subscription. Voice dialer tells me that I have an invalid license and the Nav buttons are grayed out.
Previous ROM's including rooted stock appeared to use Google Nav as part of the car panel.
What am I missing here?
Update, easy work around for this is to grab the google car home app in use it for the car feature.
It will not load on this phone from the app store, so you will have to find an alternative dowload of the apk to install.
Works good, uses google maps and is semi customizable.
Hi. Go to Settings>location and select integrate google navigation
tried that still doesnt have the option for gps in car panel ...ill have to try to track down the original .apk
Google search for google car home APK, the second like is to a droid-life page.
The second link worked for me. Installed fine, and when I clicked the "car panel" app it asked me to use the Sense app or the Google one. I choose the Google app and it's working great.

Thanks for the tip, worked great for me. After checking I have the option of premium or google navigation. Exactly what I would hope for.

How to debug google map bug on some ICS ROMs?

[Solved]
On many ICS ROMs, it seems Google Maps cannot see the compass--I believe this because the direction arrow does not show (instead a blue dot appears). On some ROMs/phones, the feature works perfectly (Stock 4.0.2 and AOKP 4.0.3 for Galaxy Nexus). On older versions of Maps (v5.12), the feature also works.
Is there any good way to debug this? I've tried copying values from a GNex /system/build.prop into my phone. I've verified that this problem does not just affect my phone/ROM, but other phones running other ICS ROMs. Failing that, I assume the only way to file a bug is to post a message on the Android Google Group?
Edit: One other thing to try: I should try modifying the environment before launching Maps to be more like the GNex environment. I should also try completely copying the GNex build.prop to my phone (I need to make a nandroid backup first because this could prevent the phone from booting.)
Solved: This is stupid, but the compass rotation works only if auto-rotate is enabled. So if you don't like auto-rotate, use Smart Rotator to enable it only for Google Maps.
hi everybody~
i also have the same problem....i'm running Ice Cream Sony by krabappel2548 on Xperia Neo, the map could not rotate to the direction i'm facing....
however i tried other compass app from market and it's working
Hi, I found a solution. Enable auto-rotate for Google Maps. It's still a bug, but this way at least it can be used.
Or just downgrade to Map-5.12.
