[Q] Xoom Manufacturing Revision Help

I am getting ready to buy a Xoom. One thing that I have noticed in the world of Android phones, I have the EVO, is there are several different hardware revisions of the same phones as production begins, new orders from carriers brings new manufacturing runs, ect. I have found their to be subtle differences between these revisions, usually all on the inside, but all for the better. Sometimes making a difference in the way a phone is rooted, or whatever.
Does anybody know if there are known revision series and how can I assure myself of getting the newest revision if they exist? What vendor do you think has the freshest supply of Xoom tablets?

i can't say I know enough to give you a satisfactory answer but I can just say, are you looking for wifi or 3g? Because if your looking for 3g supossedly sales haven't been that good so they're may not be any revisions if the first batch is still sitting around. If wifi sales are better than maybe there is some variety in the models.
But in all honesty I am just guessing my @$$ off. I know the 3g did come unsealed from best buy which means they were changing things around up to the last minute...

Yeah WIFI, and I ended up buying from Amazon. I just placed the order about 10 minutes ago, next day Prime of $3.99 shipping. I figured Amazon would be drilling through their supplies and re-ordering more than just about anybody.

To be honest I doubt there are hardware revisions beyond the obvious ones (Wifi US, Wifi Europe and carrier 3g versions).
Ordering from Amazon was likely wise as they will have the greatest wifi only turnover so the device you get will likely be from the second or third production runs (any after the first will be less likely to have defects).
Beyond that the only advice is to be aware of where your Xoom comes from. I was careful to make sure the company I bought from had imported the us wifi models so I could get the 3.1 update out of the box.
Beyond that, enjoy your Xoom. I think you will love it.

OK, just opened mine up and installed some mess and goofing around. Mine just downloaded the 3.1 update.

Galaxy Note (international) or GSIII

Basically what it says. Im getting a newer samsung device and im wondering if my family of infusers would help me out. Ive heard theres not much performance difference other than the quad core. And i can get a note for cheap new (like 200-300 dollars) the screen size doesnt matter as i love big phones (first android was dell streak 5) and the ics with no bluetooth i cant do for much longer. So have at the discussing haha

I say go for the NOTE !! Fast as heck, biggest, baddest, and with stylus !! just my opinion

I think Best Buy has them for 200, and Wal-Mart price matches. I have the ATT version for LTE.

Google galaxy note international. Click shopping tab, then set price range from 150 to 1000 and view from lowest to highest. Theres about 5 chinese sites that have them listed as low as 195 dollars new (without the twenty dollars shipping) but still. I can see why there so cheap in china, someone probably gets truck loads for free the they sell them at a low price to sell them quickly. You should look into it. Ive called a couple to see if there legit and they seem so, i get a human on the other line

Choose Note....its awesome.... combination of the phone features and that of the tablet, plus the high speed.
Its best upgrade ever.But make sure you dont have problem with such big size of phone.

Haha, i don't at all, i came from the dell streak 5 and anything smaller than my infuse upgrade would have left a bad taste in my mouth. Can't wait till my note comes in.

I would go for the Note. There is not much difference between the two and the Note may be older, but it is cheaper.

I completely understand where everyone is coming from about the Note.. It's the biggest and relatively slimmest phone out there, however, there is just something about the New GalaxyS3 that is just sexy to me, the HDAMOLED screen everything, not to mention you know it'll be the phone they don't throw away after a couple of months of it being out.. "Cough" Infuse "Cough" lol... j/k.. but really, it's like having someone ask you, "Would you rather sleep with a Victoria Secret Model 'A' or Victoria Secret Model 'B'." lol.. It doesn't really matter, they're both Victoria Secret Models so they're both obviously sexy, so it just comes down to personal preference, Blondes, Brunettes or Gingers.. lol.. For what it's worth I want the Galaxy S3 when it's released in the U.S.. I'll be up for my upgrade about the same time, so it works out perfectly for me..

Note 2 or S3

I currently have the galaxy s3. I am supposed to get the note 2 as alternate replacement and it might sound like a no brainer. But I have invented almost 100 dollars into accessories fir the s3. Is the note 2 really worth it to lose all my stuff. This thread is NOT meant to "rub it in" or anything like that. I just really want your input.

Honestly it's personal preference. I don't need or want a 5.5 inch screen on my phone because 4.8 is enough for me.

The Note has some limitations that can't be overlooked like the enormous size that makes one hand operation almost impossible but when you're browsing, it yields the best experience that rivals any android tablet. The new s pen looks like a huge bonus with enhanced functionalities but since it is very new, you cant expect new roms.

If you can sell your $100 worth of accessories for anything more than $50 go for the Note 2, you wont be able to peel your eyes away from that big beautiful screen. If you can't sell it and it'll collect dust in your house, keep the S3.

IMO its not worth it to switch. If you didn't have the S3, then I'd say go for the Note, but the differences are limited, unless you want an even bigger screen and you like to use the pen

That's really a tough question to answer. I would personally stick with the GS3 having spent that much money, and my personal experience with this phone has been fantastic. Now if you aren't happy with the GS3, and the Note 2 being as large as it is, is appealing to you, then I would go for it. Not very often you get a free upgrade from one almost brand new device to the next big thing.

A 5.5" phone is way too big IMO. The S3 is a perfect size and I refuse to use a 5"+ device up to my ear lol. I already have a tablet in the N7 so no thanks on the Note 2.

I, too, have spent over $100 on accessories, but in the end... I think you and I both with end up enjoying the experience on a 5.5 inch screen. I believe the Jelly Bean, the quad core, and S Pen will be more than enough to see the difference.
Four cases and a car dock later, I can't wait to move to the Note 2, personally. I just hope the same problems that plague me on the S3 don't happen on the Note!
Also, when you say "lose your stuff", do you mean the stuff on the phone, or do you mean the accessories? If it's the stuff on your phone, just make sure you use titanium backup to the SD card (not to the phone). If it's the accessories, at least now you know what you like with the trial and error on the S3. Five tries to find a case that I liked was worth it for me... Amazon prime takes the sting out of most of these purchases. Also, I am probably one of the few who will tell you this, but I love the GLAS protector from Spigen. (again, tried a lot before I found one I loved!)

There's a group of us that live in areas where cell towers are not playing well with the S3, causing a NO SIM error. It hasn't been fixed yet, even with software updates direct from Verizon. After documenting my problems quite thoroughly via 2nd level tech support, I finally ended up with a manager who agreed to move me to the Note 2 once it is released. (50 calls later) The only fix, currently, is to pull the battery. (lots of old wives tales floating around tho... none of which work) I take that back, I was on a business trip to Salt Lake City for 2.5 weeks, and had zero issues... so there's that.

I am kinda on the fence. I really want the quad core but since it's 4 a9's vs my s3's 2 a15's the real difference in power isn't really very much. So it comes down to screen size and the s Pen.

Have you tried flashing the HD modem? Because that fixed my no sim error.

I personally am looking into getting a S3 then switching to the Note II next month when it's released. Prices for the S3 are still high, selling for at least $450-$480 on swappa.com; so you can consider that. For me a quad core beats a dual core any day, and we all know the Note II has way more features. People aren't going to want to root and change ROMS right out the gate anyway so the dev support doesn't really matter.

Thanks for input. The thing I am most worried about after thinking about it, is the note 2 having the exact same "NO SIM" issue the s3 has. Because if it turns out to have this problem it is really a waste.

I'd disagree with this statement. I actually hold off on a phone until it has root. I have a lot of apps which I have saved data and won't switch until I can use titanium backup to bring my data with me to my new phone. Plus devs are always making mods that make my stock even better and the ability to debloat is always good. I'm in the process of getting my wife a new phone because her Inc4g has no root and it's not looking good for it to ever achieve it.

Depends how big your hand is haha. But seriously people complain about the s3 being too large so if that is an issue for you the note is even bigger. But from a standpoint of performance the note 2 is faster than the vzw s3, but looks to be similar in speed to the international s3. Dev support will be available, a lot of devs are excited about this device. Personally I would go with the note because I can handle a larger phone no problem and love the big screen size.

i got to play with the note2 at tmobile last night and man that is a nice phone, super fast. verizon told me they may not release it until thanksgiving or so.

Still works great for me. Until a few days ago I was still running a cm nightly from Oct without any issues. The only reason I jumped to cm10.1(which runs beautifully) is because I just picked up a N7 and have got that flashing bug again . Been able to upgrade since august......have no reason to......figure I'll ride out the contracts on my other two lines and then either upgrade if sprint finally has LTE here in metro D or jump ship to TMo or ATT. Gives me and my ns4g 8 more wonderful months together

Same for me! But when I saw for the first time the Nexus S with its special curved screen, for me there was no doubt about which device to buy! If the nexux 4 was curved like the Nexus S would have started walking to go to Germany to buy even paying 200 € more. Excellent aesthetics, supported (although I think the backers are falling), and Google!

For me it's a size thing - I find the newest crop of phones too large, especially with a case on. Nexus S is just right.

Anyone moving to the Galaxy S4???

Hey, so after 2 years I will be moving to the S4, I was just wondering if any of u were coming with me?

I've looked at it but decided it to be overly expensive. It's around $700 unlocked (probably grey market no warranty), just too much for a phone especially when my SGS4G still operating just fine. I did some calculations for "subsidized" phones with plans, but they can be even more expensive, around $800 over 2-year contract. I did the comparison with a $45 single line unlimited everything StarightTalk service, final cost over 24 months.
There are rumors that Nexus 4 LTE will be announced in few days during Google I/O, I'll wait to see what comes from that.

Yeah... my brother's getting a SGS4 (moving off of his old Nexus One or something else similarly painful) but my SGS4G is still doing well, albeit chomping through batteries on an increasing pace. May join you eventually, but for now... Eh, our devs are awesome.

I will be as soon as my contract ends this month. I will just keep my sgs4g as a back up but it will be nice to finally have a freakin LED flash lol

Yea I will too! Actually, I already did! ;D its so freaking EPIC!! And the screen...so beautiful. If u are moving phones, u won't be disappointed. I am gonna miss this forum tho...the SGS4G was my first smartphone. And the community will never be the same as this one. It has been a great 2 years with the SGS4G. Thanks to everyone who made it an awesome phone and I hope development keeps on going forward. I'll still visit every once in a while though just to see how things are doing.

My phone got washed in the washing machine by accident 2 days ago, so I went to Tmobile and got the new s4 today.

I don't know how many of you have heard this rumor but supposedly there will be a Galaxy S4 version running stock AOSP. It's supposed to be announced tomorrow at Google I/O. If they price it the same as the Nexus 4, I'm getting the S4 Google Edition instead. I'm in need of a new phone.

Hopefully we'll know later today... . I'm so stoked I'm actually programming for the sgs4g!

My guess if Google really moved from LG to Samsung with their Nexus phone it will not be exactly the same as S4. Most probably it will not have MicroSD, the battery will not be easily swappable, and I doubt they install FullHD screen to keep the price low enough to match the Nexus line. But we'll see, still may become a good choice.

Well, it is confirmed today with a starting price of $649 for the 16gb version.

For an unlocked off contract phone that's not that bad. However, those of you that have the ATT S4 should just wait for the Google model to drop. That ROM should be a pretty easy port to the ATT version.
