I have a rooted D2G with stock rom that I am looking for good wifi tether App. The ones I keep seeing all don't work as they keep showing me the verzion pay for tether page. Any ideas?
Tethering won't work on stock ROMs.

I thought at one point they did a while back ago?
There was some kind of NV hack for that, but you'll have to look for it yourself.

Hi, I hope someone can help me. I have been using the ClearDroid ROM v1.2.2 Stable with the Mod and its great. The only problem I have is the usb tethering will not work without using something like "Easy Tether lite". When I connect my Inspire 4G to my laptop and select the usb tethering option i get an error that i need to "contact AT&T to enable tethering on this device". My provider is Telstra (Australia) and prior to rooting the phone this worked ok. Is this how it should work since it has been rooted and flashed the Cleardroid rom?
I have also noticed that my Inspire has AT&T Hot Spots still running, but using ClearDroid AT&T bloatware should have been removed. Has something not worked or is this normal?

Without the AT&T hotspot app present on the device, I am not sure that users would gain access to the free AT&T wifi across the country, so I left that in there purposely. The purpose is to only add to the device's functionality, while not taking anything away that might be useful.
As for the tethering issue, you are using the stock tethering app. When AT&T updated the device to gingerbread, they locked it down hard. I am still working on how to unlock the stock app for that.
There is a second tethering app in the app drawer that has been there for many builds now, and it is guaranteed to work as it should. Use that one instead of the stock one and you will be just fine. Many users even report that they like it better to begin with. I hope this helps until I can get a real fix on the hotspot.

Sorry to revive an old thread. I was hoping there was an update on getting the stock tethering hotspot app working in Gingerbread. I've recently starting using an unlocked Inspire 4G on Ting (GSM/T-Mobile network), which allows tethering, but the stock app complains I need to call AT&T to enable tethering.
I was hoping there was a setting in the setting.db I could change, like I see described for other devices, and worked for my Nexus 5.
Hey guys,
This morning Google released the 2.3.6 update for my I9020T Nexus S over Mobilicity's network and I was wondering if this 2.3.6 update was affected by not being able to tether. This is currently my major concern as I tether a lot.
Does anyone know if that 2.3.6 tethering bug that was reported on the I9020A when they first got it also affects the I9020T phones too or Google has pulled the update on I9020A and I9020T and re-released it?
Right now my phone wants me to update to 2.3.6 but I want to make sure that I still have tethering if i do so.
Thanks,
deltatux
Its not a bug. Carriers want to charge for that feature. I'm sure someone will make a tethering fix just like bugless Pete did for the 2.3.5 update. That one might even work already.

I have the I9029T on t-mobile and I updated to 2.3.6 today. My wifi tethering wasn't working right away and I almost freaked out because I use this feature all the time. Thankfully it was easily fixed...
I have the security enabled for the wifi tethering and for some reason after the update the password in my phone changed by itself. I just changed it back to what it was and it worked again. If for some reason you cant remember your password and your computer is automatically set to connect to the tethering.. Right click on Android AP in the comp, click properties and change the network security key (password) from there as well... Now all is good in the world of tethering.

My carrier doesn't do that, they allow tethering without extra charge.

Really eh? I guess for Mobilicity it's even better, I just updated to 2.3.6 after scouring upon heaps of irrelevant results on Google and found some relevant from Android Central and Android Police where people reported that it works. So I tried it, flashed it to 2.3.6 and instantly, tethering works with no workarounds required. I noticed that AWS signal with my carrier improved a bit.
Thanks guys,

SVTP's wifi tethering app works great with EP4, and I was wondering if anyone has upgraded (w/FP1 modems and FP1 kernel), and still uses SVTP's wifi tethering app without any problems. There is this feeling that I have that VZW might try to prevent this in a OTA update...which is why I am asking this question.

Most likely it should work fine. I found none of the wifi tethering apps broken with Fp1.
Hi I was wondering if anyone knew of a stock ROM with tweaks for the cdma Q? I really need the built in WiFi+ USB tether, or a way I can make those features work?
I can use wifi tether and usb tether without any modifications on stock ROM. It's not a Verizon which block tether features.
I meant the ones built into settings.
Interestingly enough, GSM Photon Q doesn't tether phones: they can connect, but don't want to share packets. don't know why
That sucks. On the stock ROM?
probably only on the stock, didn't try with CM though
If you were on the stock ROM, its because you have to pay for it I imagine. I'm working on unlocking that.
Your carrier (Sprint probably) makes you pay for it. On Ting I can tether and hotspot without a problem (included in service).

Cm can you give me your framework-res, and settings apk?

Sounds promising, I'm using this stock ROM at the different 3G/UMTS provider... no data from 3G upstream. you can share wifi via BT etc though, which is meaningless at most.

I am using inbuilt tethering app to create wifi access point from my phone. Try that it should work. Not sure why you need 3rd party app for wifi tethering.

You just setup the hotspot, it is pretty straight forward. Just give it a try.
I am on T Mobile USA so wifi tethering is part of my plan. You will have to keep it on or can try some hacks on the net. I haven't tried them though.
