[Q] 4x user wanting to understand O3D's status, for dad - LG Optimus 3D

Hi guys, and fellow LG users, I'd like to find out what status is P920 on now cus my dad is using my old O3D. i wish to freshen up his phone alittle (and hopefully he'll love his phone more):fingers-crossed:
coming to Optimus 3D's forum feels like venturing into another manufacturer's phone. There's just SO MUCH THINGS going on here!!!!*stunned*
I know i should be doing search instead of starting a thread, i did but which unfortunately, doesn't paint me a good enough picture and story of P920's official FW status - I tried but getting bits and pieces of info out of an forum with so much more activities isn't easy
But i myself did abit of reading too, just that i have some questions in mind.
Is V21E Gingerbread?
I my guess V28B is the latest and is ICS, AND, is leaked (isn't official)
Are the V28Bs floating around Euro Open?
Where can i download the latest available ICS? besides baidu
Is there anyway i can flash O3D that is similar to 4X? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069723
Working on 4X is pretty familar to me. Are there any special notes i should know before starting work on O3D?
The O3D device in question is now on V20C.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!!
Edit: i read that there are reported IMEI changed occurences. what is this about?

Sv: [Q] 4x user wanting to understand O3D's status, for dad
V21E is Gingerbread.

I'd suggest installing 30b, Its AT&T's official ICS update and it works like a charm with xbsalls XBSAVX3D custom rom

Xbsall's v28b rooted is great had no problems with it and had better 3g network in uk.
Also xbsalls v7 3d rom is great too all the 3d works and no problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963847

As you said, V28B is a leaked ICS ROM. It has some bugs, but it works pretty well. It's an Open Europe ROM that has lots of languages available.

Thanks for the responses
My dad doesnt like 3rd party modifications including custom roms
(I have nothing against them but as my first post mention i just want him to be happy)
How best can i flash 'official' v28b / v30?

The best and simplest way, if you want to stick to stock, is simply by flashing the kdz file of those roms.
As you know, the kdz files include all that you need to get the phone fully working.
V28B is the Euro Open rom, V30B is the American At&T provider rom. Both include specific basebands, one for Europe's frquencies and the other for America.
I don't know which one will give you better reception, but you can always change basebands after installing roms.
I recommend you the V28B over the V30B. Both are stock Android 4.0.4, but V30B includes AT&T bloatware, while V28B is clean and bug free.

i just managed to flash my dad's O3D but only possible on Win XP using O4X's flash method

AW: [Q] 4x user wanting to understand O3D's status, for dad
There's a new v30a which is better then v28b - you can flash it via KDZ (as you posted for 4X), via LG Flashtool (.bin+.fls) or via zip (CWM)

Yes, v30b is the AT&T Version.
v30a seems to be german or Euro Open - don't know:laugh: But it wouldn't make any change a think

what is a good ROM?

since I am rooted now I might as well put on one of these ROMS right?
Can someone explain them? Do they just change the theme of my phone? The widgets, sounds, etc?
Any benefit to using one over my stock phone.
I think u must use cm7 nightlies. This is not fully stable but faster then other roms. Cm7 have some themes (i am using cm7 ics theme-this is great) and have extra tweaks and options. I think it has only problem drinks the battery.
Sorry for my english
Custom ROMs change the speed/battery life/stability of the device. Most ROMs have a custom theme (I don' know of any O3D ROMs that change the soundset/widgets yet, but you can change the sounds manually).
Most custom roms are de-odexed, so you can flash any custom theme onto them - such as most themes here.
what is a good one that saves battery life? anything better than stock?
what is the most popular ROM for us O3D users right now?
I'm using CM7 nightly for the P925 with the FroYo baseband. It's pretty fast and without any bloatware.
Unfortunately it doesn't have the Real 3D Framework from LG, so you can't play the 3D games. Viewing 3D images is also not working right now, but you can take them with the camera.
Battery life is a little bit better than stock, I think. But it's not such a big difference.

hmm I don't care so much about 3D gallery or camera. The games though might be interesting. the games that come with the phone suck though.
I mainly use my phone for browsing on the internet, text, and watching videos.
any ROMS that would fit that well?

Boys, but what is the best rom for optimus 3d? now I get on the acura 7.1 but I would like one that I do the battery last longer!
so from what I have read cm7 is basically the only good rom and the most popular?
do you think it's better just to unroot my phone and upgrade to gingerbread or whatever the new android is called.
You don't need to unroot if you want to upgrade to GB. I really like ThiaiZ ROMs, you need V21A to use it.

I wouldn't update with the normal LG Updater because you don't know what they might give you. Maybe better to unroot if you still want to do that.
I recommend to flash the version you want to have like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287236
That answers also what V21A is. You see the different versions in the link.

maybe I will stick with my rooted phone for now. I am still learning so I don't want to unroot and screw anything up on the way.
So cyanagen mod 7 is the best root mod?
What about rooting apps, what can you tell me?
I do like the Thiaiz Rom if you want a GB rom, but I had ghost call issues so I went back to froyo.
CM7 is good but you lose 3d and hdmi unless they fixed the hdmi issue I haven't kept up on it.

Rooting questions

Hi all, I'm a new P920 user, although I've been using a P500 for ~ 2 years.
So here's my questions: I'm using V20c (23/2/2012), 2.3.5, baseband L6260_MODEM_SIC_01.1042.00, kernel 2.6.35.7, NOT rooted.
I'm planning to update my rom to V21e with ROOT for everyday use.
I already have the .kdz for V21e (Italia version, downloaded from http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/WEBSW/LGP920/AITAML/V21e_00/V21E_00.kdz)
I also have the megatron folder, the kdz folder with B2CAppSetup,...
So can V21E be rooted now, using megatron? Or is there any other method? If it can be rooted, then what are the steps that I should follow:
_ Root my v20c first then kdz the v21e so the root may remain?
_ Or, kdz to v21e first then try to root it?
Will kdz to V21E grants me the V21E baseband (to flash custom ROMs like prometheus), or I will have to upgrade that first?
Also, is there any drawback in v21e? Like less battery life and such? Is GhostCall completely fixed? Thanks in advance.
You can root 21e with megatron.
After updating to v21e you can root and install any rim that is based on v21e like promethius rom.
Buttery life is good for me and I don't have any ghost calls. Hope didn't forget anything

First flash to v21e then root with megatron
LE because I was in a hurry back then:
Well I don't know how really works the kdz thing, never used it, never interested cause mostly, for upgrading and recovery I use the LG Update tool. In this way I managed to recover and update my phone when I made a wrong flash of a v21e rom on an older baseband - no network what so ever. So, I used the LG Update tool - Customer Support - Emergency and recovery mode and with the IMEI and/or serial number I've been able ro recover my phone and, in same time, update it to the newer v21e version.
i don't know how's your phone - mine is operator free, no network lock and I'm in Italy - where normally the updates for "free unlocked phone" comes earlier - at least I have this impression.
Ghost calls...none after the v21e. Battery life - I see no difference cause I'm not a constant user of something and I don't keep count of what and for how long I use. And depends on how you manage your phone. You might want to give a look to my thread of useful applications and contribute with something if you want. Click here

Thanks to you guys berni987654321 and BigBadSheep. I flashed v21e and then rooted it. No problem so far, except for the strangely low Quadrant (2000 and 2100, but I don't play heavy games anyway). Now I have one more question: now that I have v21e rooted and (kind of) stable, should I keep it like this or flash a custom kernel (I see there are 2 popular ones: BlueKernel and Promethius, which one is better?). Is there any change worth upgrading? Or I should just keep using it till ICS or JB?

Also, some more questions:
_ Anyone tried the official CM7.2 for our P920? How is it: performance, battery, any serious bug, is 3D still normal,...?
_ What baseband is CM7.2 based on? I'm on v21e, so can I just simply flash it in CWM or is there any other steps I need to do first?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick replies. So can I install 3D apps like the 3DVPlayer or 3D Photo,... to watch 3D clips and 3D photos that are already created (both by my phone and from other sources)? And I can still take normal 2D pictures and videos right? And since no baseband changing needed I just need to do a Nand backup first then flash CM7.2, if there's anything I don't like I can easily revert to this stable ROM I'm using right?
You can only watch 3D videos no photos. You don't need to change your baseband and with an backup you can easily return to the stable rom you're using now

Good News for SU760 Users

Good news for SU760.
I have successfully converted the P920 rom to work on my SU760.
Why I did this, since there is already an existing modified rom for SU760? I don't like the korean rom for su760, that's why i converted the rom for p920.
I have tested the XBSA ICS themed rom. It works perfectly, no bugs as of now. I know that this technique will also work with some other roms for p920.
I have to ask permissions first to all the devs for p920 roms if it's ok for them. I will also try to make an update zip for easy converting (hope it will work)
sorry for my bad english.
UPDATE:
I just converted and tested the Promethius Rom V1.5 20F for P920 guess what? IT WORKS.!
Now I'm on testing on other roms for P920.
Another rom works to my SU760.
After converting the Acura 3D Max Rom, it works on my phone just like normal.
On testing with another one.
yeah that great
How do you do it please give some details. When I install P920 roms I get Inernel Memory card mounts issues plus buttons messed up back button works as search. Both of these problems solved with Bluekernel.
But there is one big problem that is camera gets flipped upside down. Please if you have figured out a way to fix it tell us. I'll be really grateful.
Thanks
Great! Bless ya
Hey! Great news dude! So when r u sharing? we are waiting u know
Sorry for the late update of this thread. I have been so very busy on my work. I even forgot to upload the converted roms.
I will try my best to get extra time to upload the roms.
I found a little bug on Promethius Rom V1.5 20F. When I use the USSD Code in dialer, I get force close on com.android.phone and it will also restart the GSM Network. I have a problems looking for the error in logcat. Hope someone could help me diagnose the problem to make it perfect. Thou this is not a big issue for me. i will also test the ussd code on XBSA and on some other roms that I have converted.
About the Official ICS for SU760, I will try to test it on my phone. But first I have to secure an Official gingerbread firmware for SU760 for backup purposes. Hope I can convert SU760 ICS to be use for P920.
Official ICS has bootloader lock so no CWM and no backup.

what is your problem about SU760.? just try to search the whole forum about optimus 3d, im sure you will find answers to your problem. that's where I start, and I think almost all problems about software in optimus 3d has a fix.
And, Chickinican, if you are on Gingerbread (2.3.x) ROM, your best bet is Megatron block string attack. However, if you are on Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.x) version, I would dig a bit more since this version is somewhat secure so different exploitation is necessary and required to give you root access.

Before that I had a BB V10H
the Version of the phone is p500h (Write behind the battery)
this phone is Israeli.
Burned the version V10H suitable handler, the device works fine.
Is there a Rom that match the version V10H?
You can flash any custom rom made for p506 or p509 directly as they are still on old baseband which is same as your current baseband. You can also flash any p500 & p505 rom (which is new bb), and then flash the file 'old bb fix' which will make the rom compatible with your radio (baseband). In short - all roms.....(just keep in mind - cm7.2 roms are old bb roms developed before stock gb was available from LG ) .happy flashing.

I'd be happy to recommend rum for me without changing the BB.
Something that looks as version 4 of Android.
I have the version of the P500H
Thank you!
Go to rashed's thread in original development section & try any rom of p506 or p509. They will be compatible for your baseband. BTW which recovery are u using? Keep a nandroid backup of your current rom which u can revert to, just in case.

the problem is that custom roms are great and offer more performance(one thing that our phone lucks) I personaly use an ICS rom, but you now, by rooting your phone, have the freedom to experiment what might be suitable for you, but I recomand to use ICS or JB roms, read treads and posts, look for what you would expect from that rom to have/do and to be for daily use, anyway from my experience every custom rom would not last too much in your phone, they are too many and too great not to experiment them(and after some time they must be reflashed anyway)
so, have fun
This version is perfect(P509) -

Is it possible to add Hebrew fonts in this version?
How do I add the Google applications this version?
TNX!
For google apps download the mini gapps from 1st page of your rom link and flash from recovery. Regarding hebrew font you can check Anysoft keyboard and its hebrew language pack.

Actually, P506 has a different touch screen so the drivers are different. P509 is identical to the P500 in every aspect except for the fact that it is always old baseband.
About Hebrew, it does not work.
It will not change the system language but will allow you to send & read messages and browse in hebrew after you enable in anysoft keyboard. Did you download the hebrew language pack?

Yes, but it does not work, is there a possibility to add Hebrew to?, Is there a Rom that has Hebrew and ICS or JB.

Firstly, this has been discussed on the thread.
Secondly, you need to open the zip file, open the extras, find the font, and copy it to the correct spot in the system partition
