anyone else having this issue? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

when playing games on my tab like modern combat 4 or wild blood,my tab gets really really hot.is that normal? may be the the kernel that comes with the aokp rom.anybody know a solution or is it how it is?

You're running your cpu probably at 100% oddd are that's your issue...are you overclocked? I tried running mine at 1.4 ghz and it got warm

Mine also gets hot in the left side (portrait), but it's normal. I've used iPod's and iPad's that gets even more warm.

warm
yes im oc'd at 1200. if i leave it at stock 1008 the games seem to lag a lot.never tried anything pass that.wondering also if its something to do with 4.1.2,because,when i try any 4.2.xx roms it seems to run a bit smoother and not as hot.,

mine is not overclocked, even when playing casual games like candy crush, my tab got very hot, and now it start to reboot randomly, even after factory reset, after a few days, it start to reboot randomly again.

Is this normal on Galaxy S3?

Hello all, new here and have a question
So I have the S3, it's only been 2 weeks, no root.
I've thought about rooting it, however I don't want to yet break the warranty as I think there might be a problem with the phone.
My Quadrant bench is usually around 5500-5700, however when running intense games (nova, the dark Knight rises etc), the phone heats up loads, which I assume is normal, the first 10-20 mins of playing is fine, after it starts to drop to really low fps, force closing the app and running quadrant it gives me a bench of 2500, now the weird part, it stays at the said 2500 for hours, even if I let the phone still and come back later its still 2500. The only way I've found to fix it is a battery pull for 5 min.
This same problem happens when downloading files at a fast speed with a torrent client.
Is this something I should be aware of, or is it normal?
Please help!

I think it might be because of overheating after playing games;s3 underclocks its cpu when it overheats so its not an issue big enough though

I had the same problem. The phone would heat up at the bottom to the point where it's a bit uncomfortable to hold.
This heating was followed by crashing and a few times my home screen would be wiped completely.
I had to get a replacement. So far so good, but it still heats up when browsing on the internet.
Any suggestions? I'm not rooted and I use go launcher. My vibrant never got this hot.

Try rooting ur phone and reducing the max frequency of cpu or get ur phone in power saving mode but remember performance would

flashed, now phone is hot

so i flashed the nocturnal dirty rom, and now everything is just FAST, but phone gets noticably hot whenever i play games and whatever...is this supposed to be normal?
When you're playing a game, your phone is working a lit harder to make the game run smoothly. So, of course, it gets hot.
So long as it does not get too hot, you're fine.
It gets noticeably hot after literally 30 seconds or so, even when charging. That never happens on stock ROM. What should I do??
Did you use an overclocked kernel? Check to see what frequency your CPU is running at. If it's running faster than stock(1512mhz) and you're playing games(which stress the CPU), it might be the cause of extra heat generation.

[Q] Is it normal for Nexus S to get hot in Hot Temperatures??

The temperature in my city is around 40°C.. But real-feel is around 42°C...Summer has just started and my phone is getting hotter than usual... However, the phone is not so hot in idle mode... Its around 31-33°C.. However, after playing few games or browsing for around 20-25 mins, my nexus s is getting hotter and hotter.. I can feel it in my hands... But still, the battery temp is showing 36-37°C only... I've never even seen 38°C on my phone... But still, I can feel the touchscreen is getting very very hot...
After opening the back cover, I began examining myself.. I noted:
The battery is not that hot
The sim area is very hot (I even started my phone without the SIM card, but same result)
The area beneath the camera and flash is also too hot..
The touchscreen itself is getting v.v hottttt.... I cannot play touch games anymore... However, the lower part of the touchscreen is absolutely normal...
When charging, the temperature doesn't goes more than 35°C... However, I can feel the back side is warmer...
2months ago, when the temp was around 30-32°C, I've never had this problem Everything was fine and running perfectly... Still now, everything runs smoothly without lags
I've never heard that touchscreen is hott... I've had many phones and my city's temp remains mild mostly... So, what could be the problem?
I am using:
Carbon unofficial
Marmite 8.5cm_bigmen
No over/under clocking
Vooodoo sound with +5db (Hardware highest)
Ondemand with cfq
Battery timings: 1.5day with normal use (4-5hrs of screen time)
1day with heavy use (6-7hrs of screen time)
Should I revert back to stock ROM?
Is there any IC problem?
Battery problem?
Processor problem?
Or is it normal for the phone to get hot in hot temperatures (42°C)???
Should I see a doctor?

Its normal dude. If you want to keep it cooler than don't keep the brightness too high.
One thing that can REALLY heat up my phone is playing games at 100% brightness on a hot day so try to avoid that.

No dude the same areas as you describe are the ones that can get really hot on my phone.
My i9023 gets really hot if i play games at max brightness, so now I avoid playing games.
And yes, it also gets hot in the processor area, not the battery.

Now, my phone is getting very hot while playing Asphalt 6 or even Fruit Ninja... Only the processor side (Top portion of touchscreen and its back portion) is getting hot... Battery is definitely cool (Not more than 38degree)...
What could be the problem? My processor has gone mad or what? I've even tried undervolting as well as processing speed to 800Mhz max... But overheating remains
My phone gets hot only when I'm on full brightness and a game I usually put it at half brightness and it never happens even when playing mc4

This is absolutely true. I have Nexus S since 4 months... There was no problem at all then.. everything normal and running fine and never overheated at all no matter what i play...
This overheating problem started few days back when I tested overclocking and overvolting NS
Seem's this is the problem..
I think I have roasted the processor and it will always remain like that.. I will have to sell it soon now

is it still over heating on half brightness?
It is... I am on 3% brightness...
Should I give a try to a new OEM battery?
Will it resolve the overheat issue?
Why is the processor heating up too quickly? Has I finished its life by overcloking it? Or it is a battery issue?

I went to the local market for some inspection of my phone. The person said that your phone is not giving maximum current and the charging ic is getting very hot and has to be changed... How is this possible? I've never had any problem with my phone like this... 100% charging was always OK for me

Mortal Kombat X causing a lot of heat!

Does anyone play Mortal Kombat X on their OPO?
If so, does your device get very hot playing the game?
For me, back on Kitkat, the phone got pretty warm after about 10-15 mins of playing, it wasn't too bad. Now I'm on lollipop, after 10 mins of play, the phone was very hot, especially around the camera. (think that is where the CPU/GPU chipset is located) It was so hot I closed the game and turned off the phone for a few mins to cool down. I was scared I was going to fry my phone!
Anyone else having similar experiences with this game? Other games don't really heat the phone up, but MK does have very decent graphics!

More intense apps/games will obviously increase heat output. Though nowadays mobile chipsets much like desktop or laptop chipsets have thermal trips and controls that will throttle the component that is overheating. So I wouldn't actually worry too much about the possibility of frying your phone. (Unless you disabled the thermal trip on a kernel level)
Yeah, a game like MKX does a lot of CPU and GPU work and when you add the display, the device gets warm. It's nothing to worry over.
Buy game console mate..
Confirmed with the same game and any other resource-expensive game. After 10/15 minutes the logcat gets spammed with temperature warnings (over 80 °C) and reboots to prevent damage.
I play the **** out of it, and yes after 20mins or so, it's pretty hot.

to reduce heating u must sacrifice ur little performance
flash a custom kernel
open kernel app n underclock ur cpu to 1.5ghz (dont go beyond it <1497mhz>) and keep ur gpu frequency to max @330 mhz (i would suggest keep it to 200mhz).
optionals
1. also do reduce cpu voltage atleast -30mV.
2. change the governer to silm or zzmove or any thing u like but not performance.
device get warm but doesnt goes to extreme heating .... little lags and glitches can be seen but its acceptable.
love playing in oneplus one )
happy gamming ...
Well I'm glad I'm not alone in experiencing this. I guess ill just have to play in short bursts. I also play Marvel Contest of Champions and that is another 3D fighter but my phone can play that for half an hour without much heat up, MKX has much better graphics so it gets my phone toasty very quickly.
My device is very hot too and killing battery. When i play mk x i disable 2 cores from snayps.. It doesn't effect performance.

Just install ak put cpu speed to 1.3ghz max undervolt to 140 max for pvs 7(it may reboot at first but it will get stable for gaming with no heat) use build.prop and init.d tweak to keep it your One fast.
I play MKX and godfire with this settings with no lag at all.

I moved to the CM12.1 by SultanXDA and on his rom, the phone is underclocked to 2ghz and I've noticed the phone doesn't get as hot while playing games now which is great. Another added bonus of using that ROM, its very good!
I hear ya bro
Yes the device does get warm to hot depending upon your environment.
I have noticed that while playing the game in public(non-ac), it does get pretty heated.. whereas when you do play in an ac room or a room with adequate cool air circulation using fans, it doesnt heat up so much.
Also, the internet(cellular/wifi) being on plays a huge impact on if the device heats up or not.
Moreover, I noticed that it heats up more for graphically demanding games like MKX,NOVA3 and Modern Combat 5 and not so much while playing less demanding games like Golf Star,Asphalt, etc even though all these games are typical heavy games.
Like suggested by many above, try underclocking(powersaver mode) and undervolting. It works for me to some extent.
Had the same issue of lot of heat and huge battery drain, but kept playing for hours and then I gave up on it, because I love OPO's battery life and I don't want to ruin it
Yes... very hot

CPU Throttling?

My phone seems to get laggy when the battery drops to around 66%. Up until that point it is smooth as silk. Anyone else notice this? I don't have any power saving on.
Never had a lag issue with this phone...yet. Fingers crossed. Boot into recovery and wipe the cache partition. I do it once/day and it really seems to help.
Don't have this problem, even with power saving on.
Exynos S8+ is nice and smooth from 100 to 1. Maybe an app?
I didn't see anything taking up CPU, and the system optimization said everything was fine. I may have to disable apps 1 by 1 next time it happens to see if I can find what is bogging it down.
Clearing the cache seemed to do the trick. Down to 49% and just as snappy as when fully charged.

You notice some throttling with intense 3d games and especially emulators like Dolphin and PPSSPP after 10 to 15 minutes. Mainly emulators. Throttling starts when the 8+ 835 is barely warm. In stark contrast to the guy that posted Dolphin being played and asserted there is no throttling. Wrong. Tested on two 8+. Throttle city. Dolphin as example plays smooth and then stutter time.
For everything else- always smooth.
