Hello im a newb to Xda and im planning to root my Motorola Razr HD it is on Rogers and i am wondering if motofail2go root would work with it. Is this rooting software for a specific carrier?
Is it better for me to stay unroot and wait for key lime pie or root
i am on android 4.1.2 and will i have to downgrade to ics and then get the OTA for jellybean or can i keep my Jellybean
Thanks :fingers-crossed:
It works yes I have used it....

You currently can't root 4.1.2 directly. Downgrading through RSD lite to ICS takes you to a version which doesn't get OTA back to 4.1.2. The only solution AFAIK is unlocking your BL and flashing a recovery and rooting through the recovery. But as soon as you unlock your bootloader your warranty is void.

Root !
Use voodoo ota rootkeeper ... update to jellybean... restore root via voodddo root keeper !
I'll give this a try, Thank you.
Since I will lose everything, is there a way I can backup my game progress and things like that? I've looked this up and haven't found much.

Received Droid HD as a replacement device from Verizon b/c the Razr M they kept giving me was constantly dropping 4G connection. The HD they sent me already had JB 4.1.2 on it. Has anyone successfully gotten Root? I have already tried RSD Lite to downgrade, fail, tried Matt's Utility, fail......Looking for some advice?

No rot found yet for that update. Always smarter to wait and make sure you can keep root before updating. Or at the very least try using OTA rootkeeper prior to updating.

loose it, call your insurance, hope they send you an outdated refurbished one, if not, donate the one you're going to loose to development and keep the refurbished one )... just kidding!
Possible Fix
Shouldn't he just be able to flash back to stock ICS (With MattlGroff's Utility) and attain root, then re-update?

Bootloader unlocked! So there may be a way soon enough to get back root or to downgrade from 4.1.2.
Impossible!! Is it really a sure thing? If so Djrbliss is a freaking GENIUS! How did he do it. Sold his soul in return?

Check out development forum. Lots of info in there, but I don't think so. How'd you get back to previous version? Maybe the exploit fix sticks. I hate all this preventives to keep us from unlocking bootloader. If we want to void our warranty let us. These phones arent cheep and android is open source. BS
If it had the new update you can't unlock the bootloader. You can roll back for root like you did but that's it.

Hey guys, I have a Motorola Droid Razr HD, 9.18.94.XT926.
Recently there was found an exploit for this version to gain root access. So I did it (using method for samsung galaxy s3, which i found here). Now I do have root access, but I'm interested if I can install custom roms, for example cyanogenmod. As far as I know it needs unlocked bootloader. I'm not sure if my bootloader is unlocked or not, so I cant risk just following instructions from cyanogenmod's website.
So, my question is, how do i check if bootloader is unlocked or not, and if it's not, how do I unlock it, given that when downloading Android SDK from motorola website, where I tried to unblock bootloader, I cant install it, archive is broken or something. Thanks in advance (Sorry for the bad English)
I you're on .94 and never unlocked, you won't be able to now. To check, boot into AP Fastboot and see if says locked or unlocked.

Look up "safe-root."
So I read up on it...If I'm not horribly mistaken(which is very possible) that root only works for android 4.2 and 4.3 which means that I'd need the OTA for 9.30.1 which my droid doesn't think I need.

.94 and .1 are the same update, just different designations. The HD has never made it past 4.1 in stock form yet, so there is no 4.2 or 4.3. Safe Root will work on your system version.
Sweet ! Please excuse my ignorance. Thank you thank you thank you.

I have an XT926 Maxx HD. Stock. Locked bootloader.
Three days ago, I rooted, installed Safestrap and ROM'd with Nexesque v3.6. All using instructions here on XDA. Root and Safestrap were simple. Getting the ROM loaded was a bit of a challenge, but it worked fine, except for a google.process.gaaps failure message upon rebooting each time. But it doesn't seem to affect anything. But other than that, runs quite quick. Tried RageHD and it didn't work for me at all. Could just be my phone.

No problem and good luck modding.
My DROID ultra is currently running KitKat and I know there is a method called SlapMyMoto but it requires you to be on android 4.2.2 to complete some steps and THEN take the 4.4 update.
Is there a way for me to Downgrade to 4.2.2 and then update to 4.4 and root it withoutdo I losing things like my apps and other data or do I HAVE TO lose my data to be rooted on 4.4
PLZ HELP!!!
Thanks
John

I heard downgrade was possible with the developer edition. I've searched but haven't found instructions or advice on how to do this...any thoughts by folks smarter than myself.

you CAN downgrade on the DE, bootloader remains on KK though. It also is not necessary to downgrade a DE to get root on KitKat as the rooting process is the same as if you were on JB.
So, does this mean the root process is the same if the boot loader is unlocked? If that's the case, that'd make my month!

If your boot loader is unlocked then the root process is the same whether on JB or KK. Just install twrp reboot recovery and reboot system. Install root when it asks
