I want to start off with I am not a dev. I am merely a member of the community that wants to see progress forward toward more amazing ROMs for the Tbolt. The other thread about a new base got closed so I wanted to open this so that productive discussion could continue. I hope that the community can come together and continue to produce the quality ROMs that I've found here in the past. As I said, I'm not a dev but if there's a way for me to contribute please let me know.
Santos has put out many different great roms. Also heard ziggy has said that when the source is dropped he will make a new kernel. So that's good news. Not many devs are left as the phone is old and Santos is about the only one deving the new ics update. If the source drops might have to get another bolt to play with. I like what he did with the leaked update. Maybe once the source is released some of.the old.devs might wanna.tinker. and make a Rom for old time sakes.

From the files that I grabbed after doing the OTA I have a base OTA ROM working now, yeah me. I am going to debloat this thing now....I forgot what VZW's ICS looked like.
I am still having issues with it though, sometimes it just starts to lag a lot. As soon as I get passed the setup stuff I can check root and gets some logcat's to see what is going on.

fyi, Santod's RC6 is pretty good, it is Desensed and it is really fast. So far so good, might stick with this while I play with creating my own.

Good to hear on the base front and thanks for the recommendation on the RC6 definitely going to check it out
If anybody has questions about developing their own ROM based on the OTA, you can go ahead and ask me. My ROMs based off of the OTA are MacekMod Mecha Rebirth and Galaxy Clone (galaxy clone rebase is still in the works, dont think I have forgotten about ti )

I had headed over to your thread to download a fresh ROM for my old Thunderbolt (I've moved on, but I like keeping it up to date), but the thread is closed and the links removed. I had meant to grab it a week ago, but kept forgetting, and now it seems some drama has caused it to be removed.
So now, I see in the development section that there's barely anything modern for ICS besides that stock one that Santos has. And I'm definitely not going to register at yet another forum to access a couple extra ROM's.
Moral of the story is... I am definitely looking forward to seeing more than one solid ICS ROM here for the Thunderbolt

Well, those "couple" other roms I have, are actually 7 other roms aside from the 4 stock ones.
Of course nobody will force you to join the site or to use those roms.
It just seems to me anyway, that it may be a bit silly for someone who wants more ICS options, to not go where those options are, just because they don't want to join a FREE forum.
Anyhow, I wish you all the best on your hopes for more ICS roms for the Bolt coming here.

No need to get touchy, it's nothing against you... lol. The Thunderbolt is one of my old phones that I only use for media purposes, so it's not very high priority. If nothing happens here, I'm sure I'll eventually break down and head over there to grab one.
I'm just tired of registering at a bunch of different places just to grab a ROM, that's all. I pretty much stick to being registered here and at Rootzwiki these days, and I'll grab stuff from sites that don't require registration on rare occasion. Just a quirk of mine, that's all. No offense intended

[ROM] Cyanogen's 4.2.1 Full Update - Unlicensed & Illegitimate (Plus Theme Template)
Sorry.. I am pulling this all, too many issues.
as much as im for cyan following the rules... i want to say one thing...
in all my time using cyan, its always updated perfectly, with my only having to MAYBE wipe occasionally before update... but the last dual update... I LOST Root.. had to go all the way back and get it again, then when i finally flashed the second rom, it was running slower than EVER before.. which then made me decide to try out the hero roms, since i figured it couldnt get any slower..
So to sum it all up.. i think this is a GREAT idea and i dont think CYAN should or will get upset from it cause he needs to do what HE needs to do and everyone else can do what THEY need to do..
just make sure that CYAN ALWAYS gets his credit when this is done..
thank you!
Good initiative. But if I install this to remove a theme, can I flash the other cyanogen's updates over it as per normal? For example, 4.1.9999.
Uhh.. wow.. All I was trying to do was contribute in some small way to the community effort here. I figured I could clear some of the congestion from the official thread by helping newbies install the ROM. Obviously it is too hard for some people to follow the simple instructions Cyanogen posted, which is why that thread exploded...
But, to each his own..
Dude ignore the haters.. live strong your movement shall!!

Yup, this will put your system files at a point where the Cyanogen backuptool.sh will recognize the proper ADP based files, and backup/restore them as expected. All md5sum's match for the required libraries, etc..
Yea flashing IS common sense.. but check it out.. when you do the SIMPLE task of flashing and a group of issues come.. COMMON SENSE says look for a better route!
I think my non CM recovery image hates more than 1 update per boot....If this fixes my lag bug, thanks!
good idea to make just 1 step flash.. just sit back and wait for your C&D letter from google.. until then shake the haters off !!!

Dude.. seriously... do you post this crap in each of the other [ROM] threads where people are just taking other peoples work and calling it their own? At least I don't take any credit for anyone's work. And I suppose this could have gone into the General Dream section, but I felt it would garner the most attention here, as it is where people go to look for ROM's and ROM updates... Honestly, if you are that disturbed by it, report my thread to the mods and let them decide.
To those of you saying let the Dev's post their own work, why don't you let the Dev's handle the situation. If Cyanogen has a problem he will make it known.
Otherwise, nice work daveid!
This is really cool and all for those who haven't flashed their 4.0.4 or 4.1.11.1, but wasn't the whole reason why it wasn't in one update was because Cyanogen got a C&D. If I had to be against this, my reason would be, because this might incite some more C&D towards Cyanogen and maybe more hate mail from Google again. Regardless nice work, but I think you should ask Cyanogen what he thinks first; out of respect of course.
your_helpful_hand SHUT THE F*** UP please. You're not helping anyone. Just embarassing yourself. Like dave said someone HAD to do this since cyanogen couldn't. He's just trying to help. So Mr.helpful hand be helpful and stop trolling.

yeah, that's so true. f*ck haters... this is gonna be a big help to the community especially those that are having problems with the new 4.1.99999999 update.
This is only going to create another **** storm, all the people that are having trouble flashing cyan's rom in the first place are now going to post there questions here to and we only need one thread for that!. If people really need to sit here and ask how to flash 10 ****ing times then they should be messing with there phone in the first place.
Just read the damn instructions!!!
Are you an idiot? Why would you repackage everything into one update after Cyanogen stop doing so. If you can't read simple upgrade instruction on the real Cyanogen rom then why are you using a rooted phone for anyways.
Google upset at this? Let them send a C&D to you.
Until then, people can flash this if they don't want to go through the normal CM installation procedure. I don't see anything wrong with this.
Don't feed the troll, guys.

Really, I don't think we should have needed even the one thread for that. It got so far out of hand, so fast, that Cyanogen didn't want to post his updates to XDA anymore.
So, I thought this might lighten his burden. As I am now the one who is violating Google's T&C's, not him. And, this was the method I used to update from 4.1.11.1 to 4.1.99, one single flash - theme and all. I simply made an update resembling the one I posted here. And the update couldn't have been smoother.
But seriously, I welcome the criticism... however, it is really up to Cyanogen and the MODS of XDA whether this is something that should be removed (or allowed). So, voice your opinions... but, if you really think this should be pulled, report it to the mods, send Cyanogen messages, whatever it takes for them to chime in and say "Enough, take it down".
Alright i'll be the first to post that i tried it....
Cyans build's stopped working on my phone MYTOUCH3g AFTER 4.0.4 STABLE. I DID all his steps correctly and still all i could get was to the my touch screen and then it reboots every time. (Yes phone was fully wipped as well as sd card and repartitioned for 3ext) Also tried another sdcard.
Either way i tried this one and my phone STILL gets stuck on the my touch screen and reboots till i pull battery. So i guess cyan's recent builds just wont work for my phone but Thanks for posting this as it was a bunch easier..
love it
this is great
thanks
SLOW THE %&*$ DOWN!
Just Kidding... but in all seriousness, the variety of roms for the Cappy is amazing. It all comes down to preference; however, I must say that with all of the updates, and new roms, I'm flashing at least twice a day and sometimes even losing track of what I'm running. (Although I know I'm currently running Andromeda and it is by far the best I've had on my Cappy. Awesome GPS lock in seconds, fast, stable.)
The point is... can we consolidate, or come up with a legit thread/wiki that clarifies the pros, cons, features, and specifications on roms. Reading 20 pages of forum after a new ROM is released is getting tiring.

If you look at the feature sets, most of them are the same, just different skins, apps, etc included...
everything is pretty common knowledge since we are all running the same mods... additional apps, skins, etc are just fluff, which is why I personally don't include that kinda stuff. I will leave that to the theme and app section and the person running the rom to make it look how they want.
as far as all of us working together, I respond to all the devs who ask for help, I have joined up and help the team efforts, as well as individuals putting roms out that have asked how to do various things.
Putting it all into a wiki? No thanks, that stuff changes to much to want to deal with updating a wiki with 20 different variations on how to do a smali edit for X feature.
If you take donations, in a community based team, this always becomes a stress point, best not to take donations at that point. I won't accept a cut of team donations, someone will ***** about it if they get less or more, not worth it. (just noticed adam sent me a donation, KNOCK THAT OFF! lol)

I feel the same. So many roms are including everything everyone else is. Just skinning and a few differences. I stick to a select few toms and just go frombthere because there is just too much to keep track of right now.

It would be great if more.devastating would get together to lighten the load and make it a little easier on all involved, but then again I am excited to.see so.many great revs making a rom all their own.

I would have thought it was over with mine. But oh well. I have been in the shadows adam
Im always here. Or kinda.... haha
i think a wiki would be convenient in some ways but more trouble than its worth. I mean who would wanna volunteer to keep up with every single rom, and update it daily?
It might help a lil with noobs trying to learn, but honestly reading through 100s of pages in one thread usually ends up helping you learn more than just the rom itself. When i first registered on this forum all i did was read for the first few months before even making a post
Guess I will jump on the bandwagon before this gets moved to the general section.
There was a point in time not so long ago where there were only about 3 ROMs for the captivate and a lot of drooling over what the other SGS variants had going on.
I for one am very happy to see the Captivate community grow and put out some good stuff. The variety and choices really help enable the end-user to get their phone to look and work how they want, end-user empowerment tends to make people happy.
Taco Bell has maybe a dozen individual ingredients but it's the way they are combined that makes each product special.
As for having to read the threads of each ROM, yea it can be a pain, but it is good for you. You are informed, can make the best choice, and know what to expect from what you are about to put on your phone.

The note you made about the themes and such is exactly why I love Andromeda. I personally do not like the 2.0 theme, but the fact that there is an unthemed version as well as a themed version makes me the happiest panda in the world, and I think more ROM cookers should adopt this policy.
What I'd love more than anything else though, is a ROM that supports the hardware voice processing of the Captivate, as well as any custom kernels/modems the user wants. That would be the ultimate ROM in my opinion. Oh, and the 4 lockscreen mod is a must as well. I do not like the glass lockscreen

Taco Bell.. I'm hungry.
It really cracks me up that this thread is still going
Every ROM is made for a handfull of people. AS it seems. So to really make a wiki and save all the Info from a few thousand users is just nutz. even to have a WiKi just for the ROMs is kinda nutz as others have said. Just so much changes daily it would be so hard to keep up with
So i guess....Like all the others. We can let this thread die now
I agree with you Smoke. With the way updates come out sometimes daily for fixes or depending on an issues hourly a Wiki would just be too hard to maintain. If some one is up for it then go for it. I just see it as a way for people not to have to read the roms thread and doing research before they flash a rom to their $500 device.

Well, you are in a position to speak for the team. Do you think leaving one's users hanging without any warning or explanation is something a developer should ever do? I know from own experience that ROM development is hard work, and you were doing it for free. However, your ROM had a following, people were mostly very happy, you promised some future. Than out of the blue - boom! No more Axiom S! Gone! No explanation, no warning, no clarification - nothing! Closed the thread, turned off the lights, went home.
I see Mike is already hacking SGIII. That's cool, but you don't just stick a finger at your users, and go find another set of users. At the very least you owe them an explanation where you are going and why.

Not speaking for anyone...but the Axiom team did post on Twitter that they were ceasing development due to hate mail...probably what he meant when he referred to complaining.
"Development of Axiom ROMs has ceased. After much thought, tons of hate mail & other nonsense, we've come to the conclusion it's not worth it"-Axiom website/Twitter
I Am? I didn't know I was hacking the SGS3. Lol
Here's the thing...Axiom ROMs was never.....ever in my plans. Honestly how it started was Zylith and Zydroid. Zylith got busy so I picked up the slack and did more. Keep in mind I was doing this because this is what I wanted in a ROM and just happened to share it with the community, because it was Zylith's to begin with.
Personally, I got tired of the lack of support for HTC phones as of late. I originally was going to get a SGS3 over the One S, but decided not to wait for its release. Now I'm where I wanted to be originally. I'm sorry if you feel like I turned my back....AXSuite was open-sourced.....all that was needed now was a stock 1.84 base and those tweaks to be dropped right in...and BOOM, Axiom ROM again.
Things are rather busy in my life right now.....How? Well....I'm married for one.....got a kid on the way for two, getting into real estate for three, and Apple just did a product release which me, being a Tech Support Advisor for them....have to work much more hours.....which is already cutting away the time i had before.
Don't lash out at the rest of the team because of the unhappiness or disappointment you've experienced with production of a ROM ceased. Everyone has a brain and can learn this stuff people! You depend so much on people like us to do the work, why not learn it instead of getting pissed off because we choose personal lives over Android?
Last I checked....no one pays my bills, no even paid to use Axiom ROMs.....so we're not obligated to discussing anything really.
Don't mean to sound like a asshole, but I'm the only one who gives a damn about my personal life, no one else in here does. I gotta llok out for my best interest....so it is what it is. As for me doing work on the SGS3....not gonna happen. I won't be doing any ROMs for it, I'm much to busy to maintain a public release!
Stop with the PMs, stop with the frustration. AXSuite is open-sourced and for public use. Learn how to make a ROM and get it running. The whole reason we open-sourced it in the first place was to inspire others that want to learn how to do it, to actually do it!
Hate me or love me guys, I had to say what I needed to say. Not trying to be no douche or inconsiderate....I felt you guys deserved at least a reason as to why things happened the way they have....Nothing personal against anyone....but I gotta look out for me and my family and thats time that I can't spend on Android for now....

Thanks for clarifying that....
Some of the team members lost interest because of how things started to turn out... People calling us kangs of Venom tweaks etc etc....you know the ordeal. We decided it's not fun anymore, not worth it either. We did it for free....asked for nothing in return. Seeing you all happy was enough for us. But the hate mail along with what's stated above....just killed the motivation....
Don't hate us for it, look at the users of other One S ROMs....not saying names....they're the ones who discouraged us. Imagine catching BS from people you don't know for you contributing something you expect nothing in return from....we're all human...

By all means man, family comes first. Thank you (and your team) for the hard work that you put into the rom. It is very much appreciated. I myself would love to get to a level where I could develop, rather for myself or public, but between work, kids, and life, it would never happen, thank you for using the little free time you have to help us. The fact that you put as much time and dedication into the work you did is truly a source of charity for everyone who used your roms, or any of the information you provided. I'm sorry that you had to deal with hate mail and complainers. Too many people out there feel they are 'owed' something, and don't get the fact that what you do is out of kindness and hobby, and not something that you are obligated to do.
Take care, congrats on the upcoming baby, and good luck.
...oh, and sorry about all the hate mail you're going to get at work for the lack luster iPhone 5

Here are the key parts being over looked, highlighted in bold: Development of Axiom ROMs has ceased. After much thought, tons of hate mail & other nonsense, we've come to the conclusion it's not worth it". By the way I don't need anyone to remind me what I WROTE on Twitter. And one last thing the hate mail wasn't from our users!

Haha...wish Google had a patent on Chrome-to-Phone/Chrome sync...iCloud Tabs..really? Who came up with that one
I am looking for beta testers that will test out my first ever rom! its basically a simple rom based off of Scroslers base(don't know if that makes sense lol). what i did was read my good internet friend Edgehood's thread about building your own rom which you can find in the development part of the Verizon SGS3 forums. I read every instruction carefully and came up with my own rom. the rom is called AVID ROM. as i said it is very very VERY basic. no framework changes or anything like that just plain old basic. good thing is that a lot of bloatware has been removed..really all of vzw's stuff is gone. i did use Scroslers rooted base so its rooted already.there are build.prop tweaks as well as initd.prop tweaks but i don't wanna get into that until i have testers that say everything is good. now truth is i want to add A LOT more but im taking it slow like Edgehood said. it does have Sbreen94's custom Zeus Kernel as well(hope he doesnt mind). I am open to all and any help that can be given to me by devs and testers. this is just something fun for me but if yall like it and if i could get some help on doing other things like aroma and even better tweaks and framework...then i can consider building roms and making them the peoples way so with that being said if anyone would like to test my first beta build of AVID ROM please pm me and i will get back to you ASAP. unfortunetly i live in AZ and its 3:45 in the morning so im actually gonna catch some zzzz's right now but i will get back to you later in the day. thank you for reading in advance. Stay Avid!
one more thing credit will be given where its due but as i said im not really writing to much into the rom until testers test it out and maybe if i can get help from devs i could add more stuff before putting out a real release.

I think we all realize that making these ROMs is just a hobby for most, but doesn't anyone want to make a fully stable one? From what I've seen since this phone rolled out, is that someone will make a ROM, update it a few times, and then it's just dust in the wind. Also the only 100% stable ROM is the stock ICS ROM; no? My point is not to criticize anyone for their hard work, but to rather ask the question; what is the point of tinkering with a ROM and never getting it to 100% before moving onto the next one? I know everyone is very appreciative of what goes on in this community, me included. I was just wondering if someone could shed some light on this question for me.
Also, just my two cents; It would be nice for someone to maintain a custom ICS ROM just so there can be an up to date ROM with nice features and wifi calling. =)
Instead of giving your 2 cents, do it yourself. What's your definition of stable. I've been on PAC since it's come out and have zero complaints. Your want stable? Don't root, don't flash, don't modify. There, perfectly stable. Saying "my point is not to criticize" doesn't absolve you from being completely ungrateful for the hard work it takes to do this. Do it yourself. XDA is a development forum, not completely 100 percent stable forum. Don't like it? Go get an iPhone.

Most of the roms are stable. You can find things to ***** about on any rom, including stock.
When it comes to something not getting fixed it can come down to the dev not enough time, or its not worth the effort, or they moved on to a different device. I mean is it really worth fixing a bug that 2 people are experiencing if it is going to take a few weeks away from your family, I don't think so. And that is about how solid 95% of the roms are. Give some props.
There are probably 25 ROMs over 4 revisions of android... Its our job as USERS to spend the time and effort to find one we like, and that suits us. If a ROM has a bug that is detrimental to the use you need, look at another one. So try not to criticize devs when you haven't done your due diligence as a user.

Fully stable is damn near impossible, man. There is sooo much involved in coding these ROMs it's literally staggering. These devs aren't software developers (not most of them) but just regular guys, working regular jobs like you and me. If you want completely stable best to stay stock rooted (so you can drop all that bloatware bull****) Most of these developers have day jobs that don't involve android and do this in their spare time, for us. To be frank, man, you did come across EXTREMELY critical, and the folks around here don't take kindly to that (just breath @njstein) What's the saying? Beggars can't be choosers? My point, if you want to run 4.3 your're gonna have to take the good with the bad, just suck it up and deal with the FEW bugs. I've been on 4.3 for a couple months now with no serious issues.. Just a few bugs. And for future reference, keep this kind of thing to yourself
I had no intention a dragging this into what it has become. Obviously no one understands the point I was making or the question I was asking. I'm not going to further this conversation anymore.
I don't understand why you are making a statement in general to all ROMs. The reason why the older ROMs are unsupported is because there is no reason to waste time updating them as the guy above explained. That's why you will never see halo on ICS. Now, 4.3 roms are supported at the moment. If you like an iPhone then congratulations.

Because if every dev stayed on ICS we'd have loads of folks asking if 'such and such device' will ever get a jb or kk rom. Seriously re-read the posts about how difficult it is to code. Your post is akin to asking someone to rebuild a car engine multiple times because every 5000 miles the thing misfires. Why did it misfire? Was it a plug/wire? Something in the valves/cylinder? Electrical? Fuel delivery? How many hours do you expect someone to waste tracking and rebuilding (sometimes rebuilding everything) for every bug in a rom- even the bugs properly reported with a log?
And I've yet to see any device from Sammy to HTC to lg or any device at all that's 100% stable - even on stock. And that's from companies that have software development teams.
And don't listen to those folks about getting an iPhone- that platform isn't 100% stable or perfect either. What you are looking for is a dumbphone.

Yup.... Why keep rebuilding that 4 banger (ICS) when with the same amount of work you can drop in a V6 (jb 4.1). And the same when a V8 (jb 4.3) is available to drop in. Then the 4 and the 6 get scrapped for some extra beer money, and you tinker with the latest and greatest again.

Haven't been on in awhile and I see an argument going on? C'mon guys. Okay, about maintaining ROMs, when maintaining there are nightly's based off the latest changes. The more changes lead to more better features (and maybe some bugs). Not all are stable. In fact, there is no such thing as a "fully stable" ROM. Even stock from Samsung isn't stable. And please, don't argue on here. Take it to PM or some other way to communicate. Not on here on a public thread. May I include, that I have an iPhone . Don't hate because the OS is not controllable. Its a nice OS and lots of great apps. But Android is specifacally better in my opinion. Don't hate me for that lol. Also, if you'd like to learn on how to dirty port a ROM just google it and let's see if you can make a "stable" ROM. Move on everyone. lol
Edit: I don't want the mods to come on here and waste their time. Keep it clean next time

You're right. It's important to remember that no one here is under ANY obligation to share anything - roms, root, recoveries, mods, etc - with anyone. So lets just appreciate what we have.
Let's also get a mod to close this thread, nothing more good can come of it.
This trollfest has gone on long enough. The sheer amount of disrespect flying around astounds me. Read the rules folks.
