[JB] safe-to-delete bloatware - Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

Tired of too many bloatware, I decided to freeze whatever I can...
Here is the list of mine. didn't have any specific impact or FC yet.
Acousting Warning
Com.sprint.extension
DataCollection(Provider) + Services
Device Statistics Services
Emergency Alerts
Global Unplug
Lamina
Live Wall paper Picker
Magic Smoke Wallpapers
Mobile ID
ModemPanicReporter
ModemStatsService
Music Visualization Wallpapers
Orientation Notifier
Sprint Installer
Sprint zone
Suggestions Core RuleChecker Services
Suggestions Poll Scheduler Service
VoiceMail *
--- The following is the list of apk that are nonexistent in C-spire ROM, which means you might also disable ----
--- everything seems safe to freeze, but OMAD* is tricky, when you disabled them all HOME key is not working --
Com.android.qualcomm
Com.motorola.networkstatusservice
DataOffload
DeviceSelfService
HiddenMenu
OMAD*
Preferred Activity Setter
PRIProvider
Smart Device Manager
Utility Service
!! nandroid backup first, as usual
--------------------------- JB -----------------------------------
Most of the above bloatware seem safe to delete even in JB stock.
Other than that...
QuickView (as the quickview itself was retired, but still we see the remnant)

I've got also some apps which I have deactivated.
Most importantly (for me):
com.android.providers.partnerbookmarks -> No "built-in" Bookmarks (e. g. Picasa)
I've got much more, I will post them in english later.
German source -> http://www.android-hilfe.de/motorol...n-q-welche-apps-koennen-geloescht-werden.html
PS: I will post them here with engllish names AND app name (com.android.....) to avoid missunderstandings.

Hi there,
How did you go with your list of bloatware to delete?
Any updates?
Sent from my XT897 using xda app-developers app

I, in my experience, would recommend:
1. Do NOT use TitaniumBackup "freeze" tool on system apps, like blur.res or contacts storage. That "freeze" thing seems to bug the file even after you unfreeze
2. Do ONLY uninstall (AFTER BACKING UP) the sprint apps, just scroll to the "S" and find all sprint, they're all useless unless you use sprint

anyone have a more definitive list of the omad* files that can be frozen or removed without losing the home key functionality?
here's my list of all possible:
com.motorola.android.omadrm
com.android.providers.drm (related?) (aka: DRM Protected Content Storage)
com.motorola.android.omadownload (OMA Download)
com.motorola.android.omadm.sprint.client (OMADMClient_Sprint_Client)
com.motorola.android.omadm.sprint.client.botatriggerservice
com.motorola.android.omadm.sprint.dataservice
com.motorola.android.omadm.sprint.phonedataservice
com.motorola.android.omadm.sprint.systemdataservice
com.motorola.android.omadm.sprint.overlay (PRIProvider)
com.motorola.android.sprintomadm.utilityservice (Utility Service)

You don't have a 'working' nandroid backup of stock?
I would just revert to your last working condition, and work back from there... Heck take a backup of the broken setup if you think you can save it, just pull the needed files from your good nandroid backup and go back to the bad one to see if you can fix it....

that's the one.. didn't have it..forgot to back it up with nandroid

Titanium Backup vs MyBackup PRO

Ok, I have MyBackup PRO now and it works GREAT, it backups my installed .apk and Market apps and also backups all my settings and messages etc. Only thing that it does not do is Market links and settings in installed apps, but I havent tried it since I rooted my phone yesterday. So, can someone tell me which one is better and why ? I see that most of the people say that Titanium is No.1 but only thing that it has and it is GREAT feature is ability to uninstall default apps with root but MyBackup has much nicer interface. So, bottom line, which app will be better in restoring when we need it, after flashing new ROM, so which will get the phone in exactly same state as before flashing, like nothing happened ?
So please, some comments, I think that it will help a lot of people
Cheers
Well titanium is good for uninstalling apps that ya dont need but don't let that fool ya as titanium has the ability to backup data aswel which allows you to restore ya app back to its usual self with customisations! amongst other things such as settings, wallpapers, wifi, etc...
but to be honest its wrong to compare them both because they kind of do different things, although my backup does a good job of restoring contacts, apps, messages and more!
I think whoever has both, won't have too much to worry about!!
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Even though Titanium Backup is voted #1 backup for rooted phones, i have not had any luck with it restoring my data or apps... i get the odd force close during restore and once it apparantly restored my contacts but they were never there
Dont get me wrong Titanium Backup is way above the rest when it comes to backing up your data/links/settings pretty much everything (when it works in my case), however i stuck with My Backup Pro as it does exactly what i want... restore my data lol...
Just my 2cence..
Till now MyBackup PRO has done backup/restore of all apps, settings, shortcuts and phonebook flawlessly ! Things that it didnt do is restored wallpaper, widgets AND market links, that is it. And that was with non rooted phone, didnt tried it now with that feature since it says that it restores EVERYTHING including marktet links. So if, that widget - market stuff is working then it cannot be better than this, so Titanium can be the same. Or it does something even better ?
And I dont think that is wrong to compare these two since they both have Backup in their name and that is their purpose, to backup our phones. Only thing that matters is which is better in doing that ? And I think that is stupid to have both apps if we dont have to, or even if you are sure of that, what app should we use for what ?
I use Titanium backup and it fulfills all my needs ..
Titanium backup looks geeky too. I like it that way .. lolz
And that is why I dont like it Does it restore the phone completely, like nothing happened after you flash new firmware ? I like MyBackup PRO a lot but only thing that I am missing is ability to uninstall default apps from ROMs...can I remove E-Mail, Wisepilot and Voice dialer with no problems ? Also, I am using ADW, it eats my memory, can I turn off default launcher to save some RAM ?
Cheers
You can remove voice dialer, wisepilot, email and more without a problem I think.
I mean I got rid of them, plus quadropop, track id, playnow, mediascape, messaging (seen as I use chompsms), alarm clock (seen as I use kaloer clock) and many more.
also if your on bout removing the default se launcher and only keeping adw then ye you can.
just be careful of certain apps such as timescape and google stuff.. usually linked to other stuff such as phonebook or market.. best not touching them (yet).. also calendar I think!!
Hope it helps!!
Sent from my rooted x10i via xda using swype!
Yep, it is better now wothout those apps. Someone should make complete list of apps that can be removed since this is not on that list in root thread.
Tnx
Not sure if it was a network thing or related to maybe removing my messaging app but I used to miss quite a few texts from friends/family :-s different timings an all!

MyBackup Root
MyBackup has just released a special root version for the root community for free..
batch backup/restore, scheduler, backup data to move between roms or different OS versions
ex: backup contacts from 1.x and restore on 2.x
it does most of the the pro version does except there is no online and one device support.
I use my backup root and it always does its job to recover apps and their data after flashing new ROM!
Does my backup back up desktop. Is there a way to restore a desktop instead of manually positioning the apps
Titanium Backup rulez men! It's the best backup app, undoubt.

Had some issues too and decided to switch to Titanium, which has so many options:: Freezing app, multiple saves par app.. automatic/schedulde..
And the dev is realy responding to user recommandation.
Out of subject: I'm very dissapointed that some app on the market never get updated (i mean real update and not bug fixes) since so LONG and gain profit only because they are in top paid app.. For example Root Explorer 206ko of line of code/ never updated / Poor UI/.. and all of this for 3€.. ... I wish I had skills to developp a concurent app.

Failing that, the, only thing root explorer has going for it is the change rw permissions button. There are dozens of better file explorers that lack this one feature.

Which of these bloatware will you delete?

What bloatware from this Samsung 4g have you deleted without issues?
I have gone ahead and deleted:
Accounts & Sync
Add to Home
Audio Postcard
Amazon
Kindle
Car Home
gogo
Inception
Y Finance CLock
Slcker
Visual Voicemail
Backup (I think this is the contacts backup thing)?
What else will you remove?
Moved to general as not android development
I can't remember exactly anymore; however, besides the backup and sync apps you listed most of those I can confirm removing and being OK. I didn't remove things I did not know what they did, at least I thought--that's a whole different story with gtalk. Removing gtalk anymore doesn't seem to be so detrimental as it used to be back in the 1.6 days of android; it was, however, super hard to find the apk to reinstall which i found here. I reinstalled gtalk because I wanted to be able to easily chat with my daughter, that is the only reason I found I wanted to install it for.
Sitting on ~100megs internal storage atm with 74aps. I really think a custom rom and partion could get me more open space. Oh, and I only froze the wifi voice calling app. My home wifi isn't a strong enough signal to support it all the time--cheap router I suppose--but I never know when I may get a new router in the future that would support a good enough signal for it. Being that the app is frozen--meaning that it is semi-uninstalled--system still operates stably.

Just hook your phone up with the drivers already installed and in usb debug mode from the menu... >menu > settings > applications > Development > usb debug mode. then just run the program and click "root" and it will take care of it for you
How do I add some of the bloatware apps back on to my device? Tried adb pouch from android commander and says I'm not rooted but I am after I checked with "root checker" any advice?
Adding the bloat back depends on how your removed it...TB can create a backup then remove it for you, you can us adb to remove it, but then you'll need to download the .apk files for the bloat you want to add it back in.
I believe the bloat is available for download in the development section.
Well, I searched around a bit, but the thread that it was one got closed...stuff got deleted...etc. Perhaps a bit more search, or someone can repost the bloat.zip.
ugh i messed up and deleted some live wall papers now it wont let me use live wall papers, how do i fix this? I tried unrooting phone so i could factory reset no luck.. i tried to use the backup files that i used for TB but it keeps giving me a error message, so if someone could help me please! i would appreciate it.. i didn't know i couldn't delete live wall papers, lesson learned
yo root the phone and flash it with K1c again if you are using that rom
I have rooted my phone and began to remove bloatware with titanium pro. I have removed some of the apps I have seen listed by other but I think I have a problem here. The sync icon just keep showing. I dont think I did anything else besides uninstalling and deleted the backup for some apps I never use and was sure they wouldnt cause problem. Please help. Thanks!

Uninstlal System Apps / Quarantine

Hey Guys,
Today i found a nice little peace of software i want to promote a little.
Simply because it really made my day - im not related to the Dev who made it
Its called "app qarantine"
You can quarantine every app in the system - regular, system apps, system services (almost anything till brik
So keep com.brain.logic.provider always on hehe
What does it do?
YOu get a list of apps with a filter (system only, regular only, both)
Simply click on each you want to remove - click one button wait a little done
to undo go to quarantine - selects apps - click a button restored
Its simply moves / aka backup uninstall - selected apps
so no way they can start ever again but oyu can restore em with just one click
you need a rooted devices and it needs only basic permissions (write sd card)
its absolute free - no pro version outta there no ads
So i got a big Fan instant
Finally got rid of accuweather and a lot of other stuff without copy and delete one by one
I have been using this for a while now and it is a very good app.

[APP][1.6+]Efficient Backup-Backup/restore apps w/o FC-Batches APK Installer

Hi bros,
I am Linux developer and have some years using Android phone. Like many root users, I initially use Titanium Backup for making backups for my apps in my device. But I found that it has so many functions and looks jumbled for me to use just app backup/restore. Additionally, it seems to be buggy and failed to handle some of my apps.
I also used some other softs such as App Backup but it is unable to make backup the data/settings of an app. Or another one is Ultimate Backup, this soft is really cool but it looks colorful unnecessarily personally with me and uses a local font for the UI, the one makes it not compatible to many of my apps in my language
So I decide to write an app for my own - Efficient Backup. You can find it on the Play right now.
Yes, like its name, I just focus into the real efficiency of a backup/restore app.
Therefore, all I would like to share with you is: A fast, smart, easy-to-use Backup/Restore soft with simple UI but efficient operation.
Though I made and used it for my own for long time w/o any problem. But releasing to Market is another story. So I am willing to hear feedback from you to improve it. So please feel free to twit or send email to me as hainguyen273 (for both Twitter and Gmail)
BTW, I would like to present to you other products by our APS Technology Group. They are:
- Quick Exit (Froyo+)[/URL] for ending any running app just by long-pressing Camera/Seach button or pulling down the status bar to click
- Quick Settings] for fastest way to switch on/off Wifi/bluetooth/Data/GPS...
- SmartBar for managing apps/tasks and pin everything you like to status bar
- ... so on. You can easily find more our products on Market.
Thanks for attention,
Hainguyen273 from APS Technology Group.
Cheers!
Edit: A ton of new features added in new version.
For example:
- Batches APK Installer: You can use the built-in files Browser to select and install hundreds of apps (APKs) instantly anytime. Batch mode is supported by default (such an ability allows to ignore pressing confirmation button)
- Automatic APK Installer: allows your device to automatically install APKs in a preset folder, also in batch mode.
- Backed up archives Importer: Unique function which allows you to restore app on archives created by other Backup soft such as Titanium Backup, App Backup&Restore, Ultimate Backup... It also allows you to create yourself a quick backup by using any rooted Files Browser to manually copy the app and data directories of apps to anywhere on the SD card, then you can make restore later with the help of Import...> Other... button
- An unique set of tools provided for handling app issues, such as FC Fixer, App Repairer, App storage cleaner, Reset the app to brandnew state, System app Remover, Free/defrost apps, Batches of apps uninstaller...

I haven't yet tried your app. From the descriptions and your provided screenshots, it looks like a very efficient backup tool. The only problem is that I rely heavily on Titanium to manage the apps that I usually freeze after a new ROM flash. I can save my custom lists of "To Be Frozen", "To Be Installed After ROM Flash", "Battery Draining Suspects", etc in Titanium and do batch freezing/defreezing/uninstalling/backing up/restoring of desired lists in one click.
For someone who is not so obsessive/compulsive about such list management, you app would be a very good choice.
Is the app free? Does it restore apps in batches, or one at a time?

Yeah sure, man. I made this app exactly for those who have not so much the need of list management. But as for the need of restoring desired apps after installing rom, my app provided the Save list button especially for that. However, I dont think this feature is a fit for your need, but I recommend you to give a try just for the speed and the smoothness of its backing/restoring task

New update V1.0.1 released.
- ICS has been supported.
- New features:
+ Standalone smart App Installer with automatic/manual storage selections when installing app. Batch mode supported. You can browse for selecting hundreds of apps to install at a time. So quick, so easy!
+ Batches App Uninstaller: So quick and easy again to unsinstall a batch of apps in seconds. Missed clicks? It is smart enough in providing automatic and manual Yes/No buttons. Just up to you only.
+ An unique tool: App Storage Cleaner. Such a tool allows you to scan and clean up the dead packages/app/data in all app storages in the device. As a result, it returns to you a fast and light device
- Performance has been improved even more. It was fast, so now it is even faster.
I though tried to fix as many bugs as you guys reported as possible, but if you have any issue not yet resolved, just let me know.

So I think I'll stick with it if I don't find any problems(I haven't test it yet, I just installed it).
Anyway, If you' re interested for localization of your app, I can translate it to greek.
Just post the xml files to start.
Thanks.
Have tried this and got few issues.
1. It complained there is no insufficient memory on sdcard(in fact huge is there) but when i skipped that file remaining were restored successfully.
2. Out of 37 apps 3 failed, don't know the reason. App doesn't tell anything.
Haven't tried restored anyway. Im on defy cm9 nightly.

[Q] Removing Bloat

Hi, I (finally) updated my VZW Dinc phone to wildstang's 4.08.xxx ROM. Was much easier to do than I anticipated, so thank you wildstang. Forgot to backup my footprints before doing so and lost them all Anyways, my questions are as follows:
1. There are a series of apps which I thought I moved into app.disabled, however they still show up as being on my phone and have the icons in my apps list (e.g. 3G Mobile Hotspot, Amazon MP3, Apps (VZW), Twitter, and VZ Navigator). I'm guessing I must have missed a series of files and/or directories? Can someone please let me know what I need to do to move these?
2. Each and every time I turn off my GPS and then back on, I get this annoying message telling me "Standalone GPS Services: ...you are enabling access to all location information by any third party through the web,...." How do I remove that message/prevent it from being displayed?
Your help with these is much appreciated and thank you ahead of time.
I don't know about your device so I cant answer #2 but for the apps you can do a couple of things, uninstall it using titanium backup, delete it using root explorer from system/app or you could delete the apps from the rom zip and reflash it.
Press the thanks button if I have helped.
Play Store will auto undisable some apps so the only way to get rid of them is to uninstall them.
