So if you had to pick one which would you pick? A genuine gingerbread release, but with most of the same problems as the Froyo build that came with the phone. OR a Froyo update that fixes EVERYTHING and the phone runs smoothly, but your missing some of the niceties that GB provides. I don't think that either case is happening (personally I think that the GB update will include the fixes) but just wondering about this hypothetical situation what this board would pick?
If battery life is one of the problems that would get fixed, then 2.2 fix all the way
of course the froyo with all fixes
Same here, Froyo with all the fixes. But bear in mind, when GB is out the Community would likely issue fixes for it, like they got my G2X working with the Navi and Post-dex-opt fix.
There's nothing mind-blowing about gingerbread, just fix the bugs.. Dont care what version it is.
Cm7 gingerbread with all the fixes...
LG G2x CM7 2.3.4
exactly

i have been trying to figure out this gingerbread love affair. I just see nothing in gingerbread that makes makes me want to deal with any problems with it if froyo does not have the problem. i would actually perfer a froyo release with a good baseband that keeps 4g connnected all the time. if this comes with gingerbread than fine.
Just fix the baseband and the drivers for bluetooth, wifi and gps and were good.

I couldn't agree with you more. I have GB one my Nexus One and other than the better copy paste and the nice glowing effect I get when I scroll too far, I dont think I'm missing much, Id much prefer bug fixes. I missed getting video of a UFO today. It was really good too... I knew I should have used my trusty N1 today.

I agree with you but I read somewhere that Gingerbread can make use of Dual-Core cpu in a better way than Froyo. If that is true than this blazing fast phone will be faster imo. Also, I never had any reboot or SOD issues with my phone. Everything just works perfect for me. Fingers Crossed.... So I am just waiting for Gingerbread to see the real potential of this BEAST!!!!

I agree...only thing that GB has to make me want it is the better copy/paste...so they should just fix the damn bugs and I'm happy.

everything went well. but now the phone battery seems to drain faster and when texting the incoming message the time is not right and when texting the outgoing and incoming texts are not in sequence, the other thing the gps does not function..any ideas suggestions thanks
I'd suggest you put on a custom ROM, it'll work great and way better than stock. Give pinnacle a try, link in my signature.
is this better than gingerbread ....or should i just upgrade to 2.3.4..
The phone is still under warranty , if need to how do i return this to stock ,i am with rogers in canada..thanks

Read this tread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=979133, it will explain on how to revert back to Rogers stock 2.1, 2.2 or 2.3.3 .
yes and i have too flashed to gingerbread 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 and 2.3.5 the lastest and it runs very smooth except for one minor glitch and when i plug in my headphones to make and recieve phone calls i only get audio out of one side of my headphones but iget audio out of both sides when streaming music and all other media applications but when i flash back to the stock rom i get audio back in both sides of my headphones when i make or receive calls...... any one else have this problem?
Ok, this is a replacement g2x from tmobile, my first one didnt have this problem. The only roms that im able to receive sms on is eaglesblood or a 2.3.3 rom. Every other rom and i can only send, not receive. Any idea what could be causing this?
-I have checked my apn..its the same as in the eb rom when it is working.
-Getril says my ril is updated and its 21e.
-On tmobile and have july 15 baseband
You use the same method to flash the rom correct?

I tried the til that came with the rom . Then switched using getril when it wasn't working.
I have the same issue and have tried many things with no luck the only person I have seen with this issue and a resoultion is they swaped phones under warranty I think I might see if I can get mine changed out again already had one due to reboots why not try again if this fixes the problem will report back
This my second g2x , first one didn't have this problem..first one also had older baseband.

just noticed on eb cm7, fauxs beta 49 kernel i cant recieve sms, but with trinity elp kernel i can. So what changed? I think I should be able to receive texts on fauxs 48 kernel, will test later.
I stopped by tmobile and picked up a new sim card. No luck thought I would give it a shot
I think it is the older sim cards you have to look for but I have ordered a replacement phone and as soon as I get it I will flash and see if there is a difference

What did you tell tmobile to get a replacement?
I've had the same problem. I cant receive texts on any ics rom. But there is one thing I noticed, i couldn't receive texts on mobile data, only on wifi and only when wifi calling was turned on. Maybe this info can help us get to the bottom of this issue
I just told them the normal problems that the g2x has shutting off reboots the usual. On a positive note got my replacement yesterday and can say I happily sent this using AOKP ICE CREAM SANDWICH. I know now for a fact not all these phones are created equal just keep sending them back till you get a good one. Text message works great now from very smooth and fast just have to try and get video play back working a little better

THANKS! I've been searching left and right for solutions. I've tried CM7 the 3/15/2012 version and I've tried older versions, tried Eagle Blood, etc. and none could receive text messages, but sending worked fine. Could receive fine in the stock ROM. Was driving me nuts.
Thanks to you I tried the Trinity ELP kernel and it's working beautifully now in CM7. Now to figure out why changing APN settings and scanning for mobile networks is so screwy.... changing settings to Simple Mobile is so touchy.
I'm on AOKP ICS but I'm considering going back to a GB ROM because of the better battery, a reliable HD camera, no sleep of death, etc. Anyone else on the same boat? I can't make a decision! :\

I went back and haven't looked back! ICS was too much of a hassle with all those problems you listed. If you haven't seen it yet, LG released a GB 2.3.4 update as of a few days ago I believe. I just updated to that today and it has been nothing but fast and reliable so far (knock on wood haha).

If you do decide to upgrade as of now (from reading the dev thread about this new update) it looks like if you flash a custom rom after installing the new march baseband you won't be able to make phone calls. Only works with the stock LG 2.3.4. Just a warning if you were thinking of flashing a rom with the new baseband. I'm sure they will come up with a solution soon though, they always do!
I've upgraded once to ICS, and I went back immediately. Although there were times when I flashed different ICS roms from different devs, but they all seem to have the same issues, so I just stayed on GB, I'm happy with Hellfire Phoenix, really stable with Faux CM kernel at stock voltage.
I did as well, the UI wasn't worth all the technical difficulties. Went from HFS to HFP.

Can't the baseband be restored to an older one withe the GetRIL app on the Play Store?
Btw, does the release of 2.3.4 signify that we won't be getting ICS officially? I might as well abandon ICS now if we're never going to get updated drivers from Nvidia...
Sent from my AOKP G2x
no and no to put it simple.
The GetRIL app does just that get's RIL's no a baseband.
We never knew or will we know cause LG can't make up their mind it seems. Some forums have public LG moderators/employees that state that they haven't heard a thing about LG giving the G2X ICS love. On the other hand I have read places and posted here that LG's Facebook stated that they will update our phone and the European version to ICS sometime in the 2nd quarter. So it's pretty much don't hold your breath and be patient.
The fact that LG hasn't given up on updating the G2x means a lot...even though it's been EOLed, though. But, speculation is speculation.
i went back to GB, due to the camera issue. the ISC roms are great but unless LG\Nvidia releases their drivers these roms will never be perfect. another reason i went back to GB is because i like MIUI (the whole interface and the ability to record calls). cant wait for MIUI v4.

I suspect they won't give us ICS and have given up hope, so I don't have to worry about being patient. ;P
GB till we get drivers. I'm satisfied with it for now.

Coming off of about a month using ics roms, its nice to get back to gb because EVERYTHING WORKS! Also, pretty sure the o2x will get ics towards the middle of this year. We just have to wait for the drivers to be ported. Until then, some of us can make due without hwa, but its hard to stay away from gb for too long.
Back on MIUI for now. I themed it to look like ICS so I'm satisfied for now. Much better battery life too! But I miss the ICS multitasking still.
I really like the UI on ICS and it works well enough for me that I've just stayed on it. Went to GB for a day and decided against it. The known issues with ICS have not really been an issue for me at all.
I used and was very happy running CM7, even installed it on my girl's phone which will likely stay that way.
A few weeks ago I went to Eagleblood's most recent AOSP build and don't see myself going back to any form of GB. Yes the ICS ROMs do have their issues but so far nothing game breaking for me.
pretty new here and I never even tried an ICS ROM yet. But even as an Android semi-noob it makes sense that an ICS ROM will not be as polished as a well done GB ROM. Hoping to try one soon but the general sentiment of this thread makes me think it will be a while before I do.

They're very usable and stable enough for daily use. If the known issues don't bother you, then you'll enjoy ICS. The first ROM I flashed to my phone was an ICS ROM and I've remained on ICS since. I tried going back to GB, but ended up flashing ICS again the next day. Give it a try. If you don't like it, you can always re flash a GB ROM.

Hey guys,
I've been searching for almost a week and can't seem to find any info on this.
I have the latest build (3) of EaglesBlood AOSP ISC 4.0.4. Everything pretty much works now except the voicemail notifications.
I can call VM, programmed all in the settings, that's all good. But when I get messages, I don't get the notification.
My provider is Videotron (Vidéotron) and thinking could the french accent causing this? When it detects the provider, it doesn't show the 'é'...
Not sure what to do at this point. I get the missed call icon, I can check every time I get that but it's more annoying than anything.
As we are rare here prople with Videotron, it might be hard to get an answer...
Any help would be appreciated.
Any solutions?
Thanks
I dont know if there are no answers cause there are so few people with those carriers or, cause there are so few people that actually T-Mobile VM still... I use Google Voice and I know a bunch of my friends do as well.... Hopefully someone will come your guys way soon.
Well now I'm running EaglesBlood™ Gingerbread [CM 2.3.7] and everything works in that one. I'm also missing the 'é' in Videotron but that doesn't seem to matter in this ROM.
I'll wait until EB AOSP ICS 4.0.4 it's fully release (with the Tegra2 drivers and all if that ever happens) before switching back as I found that it was faster running certain apps than my GB ROM.
I have to say I did prefer ICS look and feel and how it runs and manages apps but those were the 2 biggest annoyances for me. (VM Notifications and no Vid Cam) That's why I downgraded to GB.
So there never was a solution to this? I'm with Videotron too. I just installed Hellfire Sandwich for the first time and I have a similar problem: I don't hear anything when I call my voicemail and I don't receive message notifications.
I love ICS... and everything else works on the phone. It would suck that I'd have to go back just because of this bug...
I switched to cm7 to fix it but I think it has something to do with the carrier list or something
Btw does any of you still have a stock froyo videotron back up? I kinda lost mine

It really sucks about the phone part of HFS... because the rest works so well! But yeah, I guess I'll have to go back down to Gingerbread... and wait another million years for a miracle mod that would actually work.

Well, I went with Hellfire Phoenix 2.3 and everything now works fine. There go my dreams of ICS... I wonder if I'll ever have a working version running on my 2X or if I'll buy a new phone before that. I don't think I can do more than 2 years with the same phone... and this one is already more than a year old...
