Hi guys
I recently bought a generic unbranded HTC ONE SV from a German website, as I was looking for an LTE-enabled phone that didn't have a screen big as a flatscreen TV.
I have had the phone now for a couple of weeks and I am overall happy with it. The only problem is that it does not seem to get any LTE action. My operator (Tele2 Sweden) assures me my sim card is enabled for 4G and I live in the center of a city with excellent 4G coverage. Yet, my phone shows an H at best (haven't actually ever seen even an H+).
Digging around this and other forums, I found a few indications that my ONE SV version K2_U (model id PL8013000) might actually not have support for LTE after all.
It seems also all ROM updates currently available are for the K2_UL model, including the one for JB (I have tried to flash these to my device after unlocking/rooting/s-offing it, but never actually managed to succeed with it, while I can flash and reflash the stock ROM for the k2_u version)
TBH I am quite confused: all HTC websites and reviews refer to the ONE SV as an LTE enabled phone, and I cannot find any official reference to the fact that there might be a version of this phone without LTE... So I wonder if maybe I am doing something wrong, or if maybe there is a software lock that has disabled LTE on my phone and that I can fix.
Or have I simply been screwed?
With the Easter holidays I'll have to wait until Tuesday to be able to call HTC... so if in the meantime anybody has any idea I would really appreciate it
There seems to be a lot of K2_U, non-LTE, in the US. You can have a look on the One SV root thread you'll find some.
In fact, in germany the LTE version is ONLY sold by operators (O2, Vodafone, Telekom).
All others come without LTE.

You'd think HTC would mention that on their website though... I am not upset about them selling a non-LTE version of the phone, I am outraged by the fact that they don't bother informing consumers that a phone advertised as LTE also happens to have a non-LTE version... I have also contacted them trough the htc.com website, but they did not bother to answer either.
If I had more time to waste on this I'd probably complain with the German consumer protection authorities, but TBH I have learned my lesson and this is the last HTC I buy
Thanks for your replies guys!
What does LTE means? I currently have old.splatterhands non-LTE stock rom installed for my HTC One SV. But for unknown reason, WiFi and radio connection are very weak.
LTE is fast, mobile internet.

You have the stock back/battery cover on the phone?
When you have a phone with LTE, it should be written on the backcover (4G LTE, or something like that).
If there is only written beatsaudio, you have non-LTE.
Thanks - non-LTE however

That's th only "problem".. I'm using the phone on Fido which is basically Rogers and I have no issues at all. Just to let you know though that the EDGE speed is surely slower than that of 3G but you can barely notice the difference when browing using Opera (thanks to Opera for that). Everything else runs smooth, MSN, streaming, even video streaming and skype using edge ofcourse.
BTW it's Rogers not Regers
typo ! sorry!
Anyway, saw a good price for an unlocked GSM HTC touch pro...

For those in canada, it might be a better idea than buying a Telus CDMA one.

Yeah I would recommend the normal version since it is already unlocked and you have a better variety or ROM's. But the downside is that the European version is more expensive. I would recommend ebay though or local deals if you can find them.. better than a website if you don't trust them.

You have to get a device that uses the same bands. Devices in the US use different bands depending on the carrier. You won't be able to do anything about it on the inspire

Do you realize there is a huge difference between CDMA and GSM right. In the us they all use different 3g bands.
You should always research your device before you by it. Mainly if buying a device from another county

The best thing to do is find out what bands your carrier uses. Then compare it to the ones for a phone you like. If att doesn't work then T-Mobile maybe a better option as they use the Euro bands where ATT doesnt

OKAY so I decided to update this thread:
There are two versions of the One X. One with aws bands and one without. I have a device without AWS (I am about 80 % sure). There are reports of people getting 4g on AWS with the Rogers Version as of now, and more testers need to check it out as it could still be possible on ATT.
This flash here theoretically could enable the One X radio to lach onto AWS (The radios here are for the One S Ville.)
http://ville.giev.de/?page_id=42
I have flashed all three, and although I did not get 4g, I got faster ping and a near immediate connection onto T-mobile. To all the people saying this will "brick" the phone, it does not and you have nothing to worry. But as always make sure to do a backup. The radio hacks for the Skyrocket/Note were also based on flashing the Galaxy S2 radio directly on top. This should work the same.
I'm interested in this as well. What does is involved and the risk? I don't have warranty on my phone, so I'm a little bit leery in being first.

if your rooted ull should be fine just make a back up of ur current set up. this is just a clockwork flash, it may not even flash, but if it does then there's a high chance of 4g.
i've done radio hacks before for the droid 3/skyrocket/note all from a similar concept. ex. flashing the t-mobile galaxy s2 radio on the note, to enable 4g.
if anyone could provide me with a better solution for an unlock i am sure i can get this to work. seems that the htc unlocker server is down right now
it's the same thing as flashing different radios via clockwork posted in the One X android dev forum
I'll give it a try, hopefully it won't mess anything up. So I just flash the radio in recovery. If no good, I just flash the correct radio again?
There is a one click no HTC Dev bootloader unlock in the Dev forum.

I flashed:
Radio from RUU_Ville_U_HTC_Europe_1.78.401.2 [Recommended] (update by rhcp)
0.16.31501S.17_2_10.23.31501S.10L
From your link. It flashed correctly. The phone on data and voice still works. I confirmed the version in Settings is not my original:
0.17.32.09.12_10.86.32.08L
I'm still on Edge, but I'm in a crappy cell area, so still not certain if radio or my area. I might give the:
Radio from Stock T-Mobile US (update by rhcp)
0.16.31501S.02_10.18.31501S.08L
Radio a try too.
good to hear no negative results got my phone unlocked so i will be testing tonight. also do u guys have the newer sims or older ones?
I have an older sim I believe. It is one that came from an activation kit I bought off ebay. I tried the T-Mobile radio and same results, still on Edge, but still could be my location.
What in gods name are you guys doing! ? Are you trying to brick your phones? It's already been confirmed that the hardware on this phone does not support the proper bands for T-Mobile 3g!

It's not just the SOC that determines hardware compatibility. There are various radio amplifiers and filters which are tuned to the specific frequencies that the phone is likely to encounter. If a phone is going to be sold in multiple markets, sometimes the hardware filters are set up for all frequencies and some are disabled via software, but often times this is not the case.
It's not impossible that a radio reflash can make it work, though highly improbable.

Interested in this. There might be better luck flashing the tmo radio since I don't think any European operators use AWS bands, correct me if I'm wrong.
Can anyone explain why flashing this radio from a different device won't brick our phones?

I have a tmobile one s, but i also have the one from att and i am so interested on using this phone over tmobile 4g let me know if i can of help. I am using my micro sim that came with the one s and i am getting edge (asume its the latest from tmobbile 4g mucro sim. I am on 1.85 rooted but i did not unlock. though i am sure we can flash through CWM. any ways i am sure there is a way out to get 3g or 4g on the one x on tmobile did not find the way yet.
flashed both of the t-mobile modems no luck for me either, although my ping is significantly higher and connects to t-mobile a LOT quicker.
does anyone know how to edit the LTE settings. it is odd but for most ATT LTE phones they have the 1700mhz frequency i think it would be a matter of just defaulting that....
the radios also show up in my baseband so i have successful flashes
EDIT: one more thing, before i was not able to use data at all considering i had the newer t-mobile sims but now data works but on edge speed.

it's just a file in your system. it could potentially brick your phone but you can always get into recovery and restore. which is why i stated you should create a back up of your device before trying it out.
however, i was fairly certain it wouldn't do that because the internals of the One S/One X are nearly identical, they both share the same processor and most likely similar (if not same, radios).
either way, the the radios work, getting me higher ping, and working data without having to switch out my sim for an older one, hope there is a way to activate the 1700 band !

EDIT 2: apparently there are two models of the ATT One X/XL one with the 1700 band and one without

Likely the software has been changed to support T-Mobile, but the hardware (filters, amplifiers, etc) are non-existent, so you'll never get actual 1700 MHz AWS support.
Of course, this is just a 50,000 foot view perspective without actually trying it myself.

you might be right about this one but there are certain One X/XL's that do have the 1700 band found out through some searching and trying to figure out the reason behind it.
If that's correct.... the people with the 1700 band would have 4g when they flash this radio! also use *#*#4636#*#* to change network type to lte/gsm
--- for other phones though like the Skyrocket/Note they were directly compatible with T-mobile radios.
Okay, I flashed the Tmo One S radio and did not receive a brick. What I did receive is a not-so-good connection that will switch between HSPA+ and 3G quite often.
I don't have a WIND sim to test with, but I tried running AT commands on my phone and they don't seem to be working. I tried doing a network scan with AT+COPS=? waited forever and had nothing displayed.
Strange...

Confirmed on my end that even with the T-Mobile radio, I'm not getting HSPA+. Even when I drove by the Moscone center where 1900Mhz was refarmed during Apple's WWDC (maybe it was just that day?). I was hoping this would be like the Note and Rocket where I can flash different radios.
Any other new phone capable of this? The S III? If not, I may have to either wait for 1900MHz refarm or switch to Straight Talk.

If someone is willing to let me cut up their WIND sim (or lend me their WIND microsim), I'll re-flash the tmo radio and meet you somewhere to test it (Toronto, please).

-----edit-----
Just popped in an old WIND sim that I used to test AWS connectivity at first. Saw WIND Away with the standard radio, and after flashing the Tmo radio I see WIND Away and AT&T (AT+COPS=? shows Rogers, ATT, Telus, Bell).
I live by the lake, that would explain why ATT shows up.

It's probably a silly question but I don't know how to check. I bought an HTC One X off ebay, it' s brand new and unlocked (but I can tell it used to be on orange.). I'm currently on O2 but thinking about switching so I can get 4G but I won't bother if my phone can't get it. So how do I know if it can use the 4G network?
Thanks in advance.
Assume you are talking LTE (although the official definition of "4G" was revised to include evolved forms of HSPA).
For LTE compatibility, you have to find the specs for the exact model of One X you have (which may get confusing) and find out what band/frequency of LTE the phone is compatible with. Don't confuse this with the GSM or HSPA bands, you've got to look for the LTE band.
Then you need to find the LTE band/frequency used by your carrier. If the LTE frequencies are the same (phone is compatible with your carrier's LTE network) and the phone is unlocked, it should work.
Keep in mind that frequency/band support is most usually set in hardware. So the phone has to be equipped (in hardware) with the correct band. No amount of radio flashing will change the LTE band.
Thanks for your help. So how do I find out the exact model of my phone?

And therein lies the challenge. Matching your phone to a model number or accurate specs is not an easy thing. Telling us what carrier version or country would be a good start.
Also, be sure to hit the "thanks" button for any of my posts that you find helpful.
Thanks! I'm on O2 pay as you go but I bought the phone unlocked from eBay, it was previously on the orange network. I'm in the UK and I'm pretty sure the phone is a UK model.

I have the Unlocked A9 and I'm using it on T-Mobile USA.
Setting--> Mobile Data--> Voice over LTE is checked.
VoLTE worked with original firmware, but with the November Security Update (639737.6), it no longer works for me. (VoLTE = calls made under 4G LTE. When I make phone calls now, it changes to 4G even though I have 4 bars 4G LTE).
Please let me know if it works for you. Thanks.
I'm still waiting for my unlocked A9 for use on T-Mobile, so I can't give you another example.
I have read that there is no such thing as 4G voice, only (4G) VoLTE. (4G = LTE = data only.) If it is 4G (i.e. data) and doesn't support VoLTE then it must be using a 2G (GSM) band for voice. If it is showing 4G when you are talking then I think it must be VoLTE. At least that is how I understand things.
I'm on the latest ota update for the unlocked version and VoLTE works fine for me. I was concerned unlocking the bootloader would change that but i just completed that and calls still go over lte
In fact I've left my phone in lte only mode for the past week

Thanks for the input. Based on our info, I'm surprised that VoLTE does not work for me. When I make a call the 4G LTE goes to 4G meaning that it's a GSM call (not through data.) (LTE Discovery confirms this, as the LTE radio shuts-off during the call.)
I might factory-reset my phone and start from the beginning. Not happy, since this is hours of work...

Could be, but I have a Samsung Avant sitting next to it, and the Avant's VoLTE works while on my A9 it does not. Speed test results are similar for the phones, so I know that the connection is good.
Just got off the phone with T-Mobile, they transferred me to HTC tech support. HTC wasn't much help (just reading from a computer screen). The tech promised that a level 2 support person would call me in the next 24-72 hours.

I think they are buried. I have tried emailing them this week about accessories, also tried their chat support, and just nothing. And still no shipping date for my unlocked garnet of 23 Oct. I really don't think they were ready for this introduction and the demand that followed. I just hope the phone is worth it.

I like the A9 a lot. Coming from a Samsung S4, the signal strength is OK, but I am very pleased with the battery -- it last all day for me. Screen is bright, camera is good, and it has the latest Android.

Thanks.
