Dead HTC One S Dea!!! - HTC One S

Hello Guys !
i Have an HTC One S Tmobile Phone.
The Problem With my phone looks alot more serious than Others.
i Was Installing A Rom Into My Phone Wich Had TWRP Recovery Installed Unlocked Bootloader.
i Had installed a few Roms Such As Viper,CM10,AOKP,PACMAN, and i think thats it.
Well i Was Installing a ROm Dont Remember Wich one and installed succesfully then installed a Kernel Tweak. after that it rebooted as allways but after that it completely died. did not turn on did not turn on the Orange light When i Plugged it in my Charger. No Response For Nothing. i try to do a Hard Reset Press and Hold Power+Down Button or Up Button BUt Wont Do Nuthing. i Tried Plugging it to My PC My Computer Makes Noise When i Plugg it in But it Does it Continuosly But Nothing Happens it Does Not Recognize it Either. So i Have No Idea Whats Wrong With it. Please Help Me

Does your computer fail to install QHUSB_DLOAD drivers when you plug your phone into the computer?
If so, you, my friend, have a brick.
If not, then you probably still have a brick to be honest. But it may be retrievable. I believe that you need Linux and a basic understanding of Linux coding to unbrick.

This happened to me after flashing a ROM - I thought I bricked my phone but here is the steps I took to get it back to working.... Hopefully it works for you if it stills dead.
1.Plug in your phone (you will see the solid orange LED on) let it charge over night/or until the LED turns green.
2.HOLD power+Volume UP down until you see the screen blink - keep holding until the phone boots up! (This will hard reset your phone)
3.Boot into recovery after initial boot up/or if it bootloops - by pushing VolumeDOWN+Power.
4.wipe/cache/dalvik -
5.install ROM - fastboot BOOT.IMG if S-ON
6.enjoy phone again!
Hopefully this works for you like it did for me! the key thing is to charge your(dead)phone until you see the GREEN LED light.
Good luck!

Em, do you read the posts before you answer them?
He already wrote that his phone did nothing after trying exactly that....
HTC One S | RootBox 4.2.2 | BubbaKernel 3.6 OV | S-OFF

Did you try holding down the power button for 10 seconds?

I had the same problem once before. I did a simulated battery pull, then plugged it in the charger overnight. The charging light came on after a few hours.

Just do one thing, Open Device manager and Connect the phone.
If the PC detects the device and then disappears or a question mark remains showing "Unknown Device" then its Dead/Bricked.
If it still remains there try wiping and pushing boot images and recoveries. If its do not detect then you'll need Linux and try searching in commands for that.

If it shows QHSUSB_DLOAD in Device Manager, you have probably flashed something for another device which resulted in a brick.
Find the unbricking thread in the development section.

Hi friend I have the same problem but i got in to this problem trying to flash my kernel but in my pc the phone is detected as htc one s in device manager is there a way to get back my device working
thanks

Could draining the battery down will help?. That should wipe out all shell memory. I do not know if plugging into computer( as drive) will drain the battery. If you more adventurous, you could open the case and see if you can remove battery. Let the caps drain overnite and put it back. Just a though - it my work since android is a shell OS and reside in high memory.

When goes to Android OS, I am confuse too. It has been a long time since I use programing language, but I do remember that any program being loaded on top of another program is running in shell. Just like a batch file in DOS - a program being loaded into reserved portion of high memory.
Do not ask me any more questions - it my overheat my brain. See if draining the power will get your phone back.

DesireS stuck on HTC logo - no Hboot too

Hey all ... Interesting problem with a frnds phone.. hope someone here can help unbrick the phone...
Okie.. soo..
1. DesireS ... no idea what radio/hboot/rom version.. but it was rooted earlier. Thats all the info i have.
2. Keeps rebooting when started on HTC logo, reboot after 3 seconds max.
3. Does not show up on Device manager on windows, even briefly. Cannot enter Hboot or Recovery .. phone just reboots.
Since its not detected, so i cant test even adb devices etc....
Suggestions and help regarding how to get the phone to stop long enough that something can be done on it, will be highly appreciated
Thanx in advance !

May o suggest something...? I have been through a similar situation before and managed to recover by following these steps. :-
Switch your phone off completely. Do not attempt to restart it.
Now connect it with USB cable to your pc. I'm assuming you have htc usb drivers previously installed.
Fire up the cmd window and change directory to where you've kept your adb files.
Now type adb devices
If your device is listed, type adb reboot recovery.
This shoud take you into the recovery menu. From there you can restore a nandroid backup or do a full wipe and install a new rom from sd card.
Do let me know if this works.
Beamed from my HTC Desire S using xda premium.
Nope.. no device detected :/ ... Actually, the funny thing is that the phone starts up automtically when the usb is connected .. although all it shud do is just charge up .. :| .. like its in some sort of hung up mode and expects a usb :/ .. even if its connected to a power socket :S
Ive tried no sdcard, no sim, and etc etc .. but no luck :/
But i tried everything, but no device detected by adb or windows... (btw, imho the device shud only be detected if its a sort of hibernate mode no? coz a power shutdown means its completely shut down.. or does the device stay in a sort of inactive bootloader state when usb is connected? )
So .... im still open to ideas !
You've probably tried this, but.....
I find it impossible to get into bootloader using this method:
power off, hold volume down, press power on, enter bootloader.
I find invariably the phone just boots up as normal.
The best way I've found is this:
hold power button whilst phone is on, select restart, wait until backlight goes off then immediately press volume down.
Phone should restart in bootloader menu.
Like I said, you've prob tried this but it works for me.
Peace

Just realised this is prob useless to you as its actually stuck in a boot loop. Sorry.

Did you have Fast Boot enabled in Settings -> Power? That's likely your problem not being able to get into the bootloader.

Can you switch off completely...?
This is really important.
If you can switch off completely you need to remove the battery after the device is off.
Then wait for one minute and reinsert the battery.
Do not switch it on. Just connect usb to your pc. I'm assuming of course that you had enabled usb debugging on your device...
If you can't power it off then wait for the battery to discharge over time. Do not charge the phone while that is happening.
Then once it powers off remove the battery and follow instructions as written above.
After connecting to pc fire up cmd terminal and do tyw adb commands that I have written in the prwvios post.
Let me know if that helps.
Are you sure your phone can be switched off completely...?
Because in a bootloop you can't switch off the phone normally so either you need to pull battery Which I Do Not recommend, or wait for the battery to discharge itself over time.
Do keep us posted regarding further development in your case.

Roger that .. ill be discharging it and doing the test tonight, so ill keep the thread updated

Read this. This was my experience when faced with an unresponsive phone.
Oh yeah... read that already ... thats what raised my hopes after u informed abt the adb reboot method
-------------
Ok.. so new update:
I drained the battery ... and tried the method.. but no device detected. In order to test various possibilities, i tried the same on my Galaxy S2.. and no device detected. Now this got me stumped.. but once i enabled "USB debugging"... adb detected device, and all was fine on my S2.
So the new conclusion is: my frnds DesireS does not have USB Debugging enabled :/
Sooo...... now the question to everyone out there is: Is there any possbie method to get USB debugging feature enabled "without" going into the rom?? Because im guessing that if i can get usb debugging.. @enigmaamit's idea will work!
So... TIL: Enable USB Debugging when playing around with your android .. or u can get screwed lol ... (redditors will understand what i mean )
Dont lose hope

Dont lose hope yet.
Let the phone discharge itself completely. Now remove battery, wait for a minute and then reinsert battery. Connect to wall charger.
Tell me what happens after your battery has completely discharged and you connect it to the charger (main charger, not pc, since we know that doesnt work anymore). Does the charging led start blinking orange...?
If so wait till the blinking stops and the LED is lit up steadily.
Then hold down volume - button and power button together to get into the bootloader screen from where you can get into recovery and restore a backup or flash a new ROM.
Make sure you read the entire thread whose link i posted in my previous post. Its also on the last line of my signature.
I had a similar situation (HTC logo, no debbuging ON) and I managed it with fastboot command. See this. But I had the access to the bootloader. But you can try

Is my phone dead?

Hi All
Hoping someone can tell me if I've completely killed my phone. It was working absolutely fine with no problems whatsoever until earlier today when it froze. Without looking around at what to do I just held down Vol + & Vol - & power. This restarted the phone and it went through the T-Mobile logo and then just sat there. I then took out the battery, put it back in and held vol - and hit power, got into the clockworkmod menu and used the recovery option to wipe then restore an earlier backup, this all seemed to go fine and I used the power off option to restart the phone.
Nowwww though it just vibrates 7 times and stops, if I then pull the battery and replace it and hit power it vibrates 7 times again and then nothing unless I pull the battery again.
Am I screwed?
The phone is S-Off and had clockworkmod installed. Has the clockworkmod boot loader thingy some how been damaged? Anything I can do?
Appreciate any advice. Thanks
can you get into recovery? if so try wiping everything and then doing a fresh install of something

dont keep pulling the battery if you dont already have emmc failure you will soon if you continue to pull the battery!
Yea I didn't realise pulling the battery was that bad. I haven't done it since reading this forum. But no I can't get in to recovery any more since that time I wiped everything and restored a backup. Since then it just vibrates 7 times when I push the power button and that's all.
can it connext to adb? if so, id try flashing an ruu via fastboot. that will set everything back to stock. then you can reroot and flash a rom, and id get rid of that backup

I looked for adb guides and they all seem to show how to install the drivers etc but my phone doesn't even get detected as a new device in Windows so I assume it's not going to show up?
I mean it looks completely dead right now, won't turn on or even vibrate. Unless I was to pull the battery again I think it would probably then vibrate 7 times when I push the power button for the first time and that would be it again.
Do you think the clockworkmod boot loader got overwritten some how when I did the restore?

it could of, and its worth a shot, it might be recognized. just get adb working, and install the drivers. plug the phone into your computer, and wait a minute or 2 and the screen should turn on but be black. then just boot into the bootloader and flash the ruu via fastboot
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
So I installed Java JDK, then Android SDK, then downloaded the HTC adb drivers but it says to install the drivers plug in your phone and wait for Windows to detect it... which is as far as I can go because Windows doesn't detect the phone.
I don't even seem to be able to reset the phone by holding Vol + & Vol - & power at the same time. It's not looking good.
In fact you say about the phone going to a black screen, it did do this after I initially restored the image. But it was just after that that I pulled the battery and now it doesn't do that anymore.
I assume basically what has happened then is first some thing froze and corrupted my normal install, so to fix this I tried the restore and the restore image somehow overwrote clockworkmod but at this point the phone was still recoverable via adb? but then I pulled the battery and now it's definately dead?
Seems like an unfortunate string of events but at least I know now to avoid pulling the battery next time! Thanks for all your help stumpyz9 and djisgod, I don't suppose you know why pulling the battery can so easily kill the phone?
Btw if anyone would like to jump in and make my day by saying nooo everything is fine here is a quick fix please feel free
my only guess of why pulling the battery killed it is when you where restoring it and then pulled the battery, it was restoring something very essential to even turning the phone on. i dont know why windows wouldnt detect your phone, it has derected my DHD even in the worst scenarios. and were you saying the drivers wanted you to hook the phone to the computer? if so dont and try to continue installation, because if you can get it hooked up to your computer and have adb recognize it, then tyere is a very good chance you can recover it. if not, then im sorry to say you have yourself a very pretty paper weight. if it is a paper weight, id say maybe check to see if a dev could use it or basically part it out on ebay and sell the lcd, digitizer, housing, camera and you can probably make some of your money back.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
The ADB HTC drivers I downloaded are not an installer file, you need to plug in the phone so Windows will recognise a new device and ask you to select the location of the drivers but I can't because it doesn't detect the phone being plugged in at all.
I've also been reading around a bit more and found a thread about a fried eMMC chip. I was actually getting the same errors they mention in that thread when I did the restore from clockworkmod.
"E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log" etc etc
dont use that, install htc sync, then plug the phone in and tell me if that works
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Yea I just gave that a go after reading someones adb guide and even with HTC sync installed when I run "adb devices" it lists nothing.
It's strange I thought once I had clockworkmod installed nothing could go wrong because I would always be able to restore from an old backup. I always assumed that clockworkmod would be sat on the boot partition and never touched even when restoring a backup. I can't understand how it went so wrong lol.
Although right now the phone seems so far gone maybe I could get away with a warranty repair as they won't be able to tell it was S-OFF.
yah if all of the chip has been fried and it wont power on, i think that would be your best bet, seeing as they probably wouldnt be able to tell.

[Q] HTC Sensation doesn't turn on !!!

I have a HTC Sensation rooted and installed custom ROM last week with HTC Sensation Android Development[ROM] . For the last 2 days my phone restarted twice i think. Now it doesn't turn ON! I tryed to pull out the batery wait for 3 minutes and put it back bu nothing unitl now. I push the power button, i am trying to go on hBOOT pressing the power + volume down but nothing happens. Cane you please help me?! I tryied everyhting and don't know what do do. Thank you
charging from custom recovery tends not to work so if the battery is flat you may have to get an external charger.

the top solution is option one... but if the external charger is more expensive just buy a new battery... if possible borrow somebody's batt and test first...
''Recovery''
I fixed that thanks god!!! But now another problem starts.. i turn on the phone and restarts over and over after the green sign. I can't access recovery also. I tried to install a recovery putting this file: PG58IMG in to Memory card and then install but no success it does the same I can't access recovery at all. When i try to access it my phone restarts the same when i try to turn it on. If someone one know what to do please tell me...thank you
You should be able to access recovery if you pull the SDcard before booting
Thanks for the tip mate, i will try this and tell you how did it go..
it doesn't ! I tried but when i choose recovery it shows me the Android Green Screen, a black screen after and then phone shuts down !!! Thanks anyway
Where did you get that PG file from?
Matt
This may help or not, but you could always see if it's recognised by your PC when you try and boot into the Bootloader using Volume Down + Power. It seems odd that it would refuse to get into the Bootloader and go straight to the green HTC logo.
My rationale is that if it is successfully does get recognised by your PC, then you could attempt to use ADB to breathe life back into your device, if not at the very least get some information about what seems to be the problem.
It's a bit vague, I apologise. A little more research on my part is needed I guess. (new to these forums, just trying to help!)
Hope this helps.
try reflashing the recovery
I-ve tried alreadz to flash mz recovery but don't know what fits better because when i go to recovery adn try to install something my phone crashes already ! :*(

No power on after installing aokp b32
hi,
i have a similar problem! i'm using previously VirtuouseRom since Jan 2012 without problems. Now i have tired aokp b32 rom to install. After reboot, the phone was starting perfect and boot to aokp. In the next step i make a manual restart. The phone was shut down normaly, but no power on and no restart it.
Since this i can't power on my phone. The battery is full, but i try also a another battery. No reaction with power adapter and usb.
i hope u can help me....

Code:

I had the same issue once. Luckily, I have a stand alone battery charger. I put the battery on the charger for 15 minutes, put it back in the phone and all was good...
I think there are separate problems here...if the phone is detected by computer when plugged in...then it's still salvageable since you can probably run adb?
However, mine was unresponsive completely....nothing worked. Sent back for repair...going to see what HTC says about the warranty!
This once happened to a friend of mine. Charge your phone for 20 minutes. If you're using a Sense ROM, disable fast boot in Settings>Power. Fastboot doesn't actually power off your device, just puts it into sleep, like in Windows. This means the battery drains, even while it's "off".

Basically when power runs out or there is disconnection for any reason when flashing or in the process of booting up, you will have bootloader crash, which will lead to what you are experiencing, that's why its important to have a fully charged battery when flashing . you need to go here to locate the files needed to recover your phone. Mind you you may have to locate T mobile ROM's as your phone may be network locked.
or use ADB or a reboot tool to get your phone into download mode

you should post in that forum and read the link about flashing the ROM again to solve it or if you had a Backup, restore it. , unfortunately I have no experience concerning HTC phones.
