(tut) how to disable capacitve buttons and turn of capacitive button light(root) - HTC Pico (Explorer)

This is for those who didn't know already
First of all download root explorer and Mount it as r/w.use it to edit these ROM files
To turn of capacitive button lights:
Go to system/lib/hw
There find lights.pico.so
Rename it to "lights" or anything.
Reboot.
To restore just rename it to lights.pico.so again and reboot.
To turn off capacitive buttons:
Go to system/use/key layout/himax-touchscreen.kl
Long press it and click open with text editor
Delete everything there
Reboot.
To restore , restore the backup of the file which is automatically created.
Now you may add nexus style buttons as posted by exonakidev. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2209559
I recommend changing the LCD density between 120-140 if you do so.
Now you may hide the capacitive buttons as you wish.
I used a ohp marker and its not very detectable.
You may also dismantle it and blacken it.

Use Build Prop Editor from play store

Well... it worked for me on my Optimus G but it broke autobrightness and brightness settings and did not reverse when I put the file back. Did you test this or just tell people?

Or using RootExplorer go to "sys/class/leds/button-backlight" (NOT LCD-BACKLIGHT) long press "max_brightness" Open in Text Editor, change 255 to 0 and save. Just said if anyone didn't know

Problem
Was able to turn the button backlight off, but then after rebooting I could not change the screen brightness. Also automatic brightness stopped working.
So had to restore ROM.
Using Flyrom v4 redefine.

[Q] back to stock camera/gallery

OK so it did replace the camera and xml but still no change to the wallpaper settings still will not let me do a full screen size wallpaper will still crop it any thing else i can try?
What launcher does it have? ADW has an option to not have the wallpaper scroll, and lets you do full screen instead of the square I believe. Either that or drop some properly scaled and sized wallpapers into the wallpaper directory. I don't think you ever have to crop those ones.

if you download a rom which has the stock camera/gallery such as the Revolution HD 1.1.7 Rom, unzip the Rom, go into the /system/app/ directory and copy out the HTCCamer.apk and put it on your SD card. Then copy out media_profiles.xml file from the /system/etc/ directory and put it on your SD card.
Then on your phone using a root file explorer mount the file system as writable and then copy those two files to the same directories on your phone.
ES File Explorer has in the settings Root settings and you can toggle Root Explorer and Mount File System. You need to enable both of those tick boxes in order to copy the files.
I hope that is what you were after. I'm not sure if gallery is included in the camera apk, but that will restore your camera to stock.
Perfect I will try that thanks

Sorry forgot to mention you will need to reboot after following my instructions.
You might just need to do a superwipe and then reinstall your ROM of choice.
It will fix your problem quick smart. You can back up your phone pretty easily. I've wiped my phone about 5 times in the last two days.

How can I disable 180 rotation in portrait mode and disable bootmenu options?

I recently installed the ICS Leak #2 and installed scv7, but there were several new features that annoyed me. I like to lie in bed to use my phone, so when I turn sideways, the screen turns from landscape mode to portrait mode, but the portrait mode is with the earpiece and camera at the bottom, and the buttons at the top. I have never had a problem with this with gingerbread/scv5. If anybody could tell me any way to disable it, that would be great, and I think the default launcher installed with scv7 is Holo Launcher, if I'm not mistaken.
One more thing, I had to install the Bootmenu manager when I was installing scv7, and everytime I hold the power button, then tap "Power off", I'm greeted with a list of options such as "Normal shutdown, reboot, and many other ones that I don't need, is there any way to disable this, and possibly add reboot back to the main list, like scv5?
Thanks.

Please don't re-post your issues, regardless of whether you feel you originally posted in an incorrect sub-forum. Ask one of the moderators to look at your post, and request it to be moved if necessary. You now have two posts with this issue (First one being HERE), and it clutters up the forum when people do this sort of thing.
As for the power menu found in the BootMenu app, that's just part of the application. You might find it very useful later on down the line. If you're just wanting to reboot, it only adds one additional click, so I wouldn't concern yourself too much over it. And, like I said, it may come in handy (and save your arse) at some point...
I think I may have just soft bricked my phone again. Stuck on the boot screen now, with the flashy scv7 thing. I edited framework-res.apk but must have improperly put it back.

It may be the edits, or how it was compiled.. Sometimes it's best to just do your edit, compile, then copy the edited files back to the original apk. In this case with the /values folder edits, they end up in the resources.arsc - move your newly compiled one back to the original apk with 7-zip/winrar. And actually with the framework-res.apk, you usually need to have no compression on the resources.arsc... copy that new resources.arsc somewhere next to the original apk, then add it to the archive in "store" mode - no compression with 7-zip.

I meant on your computer.... how did you make the edits? framework-res.apk/res/values/bools.xml?
Well, you are probably going to have to restore a backup first. Unless you can make a flashable zip with a working version of the apk you edited, take out your sdcard and use a reader to access it on your comp - then flash that instead of an entire system restore.

Right. So you probably need to redo it. Is the original META-INF folder in your finished apk?
I would just decompile a fresh one..
Edit the bools only..
Compile..
Then move the new resources.arsc to the old apk in store mode..
Then use root explorer or a zip or adb.. but set proper permissions.

So does that mean i have to do a reset on my phone again? Because I can't access root explorer right now.

Are you still bootlooping? You need to go into recovery and restore, or flash a ROM again first..

Disable key backlight easily!

Now you can easily disable key backlight & save battery.
Follow this-
Go to system/etc & open hw_config.sh with text editor. then change echo 500 to 1.
Then extract the file & move it to etc/init.d & use proper permission.
That's all! It will 100% work.
Why?
I can't speak for all phones, but on Samsung, the option already exists on stock.
Also, they eat about 0.1% of your battery...

I used Root Explorer to edit the build.prop's last line.
Default density was 210, I changed it to 188.
Remember, latest Kernel patch restores Original Density.
So, If you want, I can give you step by step instructions.
thanks

I Have also dialer problem.. so please help step by step how to changed density...
Dude, for gallery and music items to show, you have to wait for a while.
And regarding density, follow these steps:
1.Download and Install Root Explorer Or your favorite app which can access system files.
2. Go to Root/System and Mount it R/W (Rewritable)
3. Open build.prop file using text editor.
4.Scroll to last line of the file, if there is a line like 'ro.sf.lcd_density=<value>' then alter '<value>' to your suitable DPI (I'm Using 188 DPI). If there is no line like above, then simply add one.
5. Save the file and 'Normal Reboot' your handset.
6.Voila!
Or, You can download ROM toolbox and use the build.prop editor to do the same!!

I am not aware of any other way to resize it xcept the gravity box. The only way to unhide the call button is ofcourse resizing it. Or try using other software like ex dialer or some other launcher.
