[Q] DonutHD 2.3 rom installing problem - General Questions and Answers

Hello! I'm new in installing custom roms, so I found DonutHD 2.3 rom version from this page...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35830446&postcount=1808
an followed the instructions on how to install it, I downloaded and installed Xrecovery and rooted my phone, then i downloaded two zip folders and copied them in sd memory card, then i fully wiped all data in recovery mode and then selected install custom zip, selected the first zip file and xrecovery installed it about in 2 seconds, when i rebooted my phone it showed the old rom only with new data on it. I have Xperia x10 and I had gingerbread version on it. Can someone explain how to correctly install DonutHD 2.3 on xpreria x10
sorr for bad english
thnx!

I'm trying to update my rom on my EVO from 2.3.2 to this new rom but when i initiate the install it reboots then aborts. I'm using rom manager to install it. Also is there anyway to install this new rom without clearing all of my apps and contacts ect..?
Try installing it through CWM. I'd download it on a computer then put it on your SD. Sometimes the roms don't download correctly so you can just try dling it again as well.

CANNOT flash any ROM :(

Ok I got my G2x last month, have it rooted w/ OneSuperClick...(they said, to make sure you're rooted, check to see if u have the superuser icon in your phone, it's there.
So I'm rooted, nandroid backed-up and have the recoverymod flashed too.....
I have tried to flash a few nightly roms (p99_46.zip is the latest) as well as the Eagleblood 1.0.4. None of the install......they start w/:
-- Installing: /sdcard/EagleBlood1.04.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/EalgleBlood1.04.zip (bad)
Installation aborted.
(( so I'm forced to restore my stock back up.....
anyone have any suggestions...
I'm rooted, Have CWM recovery v3.0.2.7 installed...
Have clear davik's chache, have wiped cache partition, have wiped data/factory reset, tried installing any nightly ROMs from 44 and up and still nothing.....pls help...

P.S... also....I heared about "gapps"...what is it and do I need it at all? When is the official 2.3.x (gingerbread) coming from Tmobile? I just want GB on my g2x
make sure u flashed clockwork recovery via NVflasher to TRULY gain a mod recovery. I always put the roms I wanna flash onto my phone's memory and NOT the microSD card. maybe that'll help.
Looks like a corrupt download. Delete the zip and try downloading again.

Thnx for the reply. I tought I heard to have the ROMS in external memory card. Cuz, for example that's where clockworkmod backs up your nandroid.
Where do you place the ROMS(most roms have like 3 files in a compressed zip format.......i.e example.....the eagleblood ROM name is EagleBlood1.04.zip when u download it....inside the zip, theres two folders.....META-INF and "system".....a file called "boot.img" and another one called "installbusybox"...so where in the internal phone memory do u put the whole zip folder......?
put the WHOLE rom.zip on your memory. don't unzip anything.
+1 on the post above. redownload the rom and try flashing again.
after you flash the rom, flash gapps (this is the installer that includes market, gmail, etc.) You need it in order to get access to the market
Your steps should be as follows
1. Wipe Data
2. Wipe Dalvik cache
3. Flash Rom
4. Flash gapps
5. fix permissions
6. reboot
EDIT: and don't unzip anything. Place the WHOLE eaglesblood.zip file on your SD Card

They all say the same....I got them from the cyanogenmod website......even Eagleblood1.04 from here.
funny thing i noticed tho, after I tried installing a rom, but of course it fails, I connect the phone to USB, go to external memory card, try to open the ROM zip file, it wont open....says "X:\EagleBlood1.04.zip The archive is either in unknown format or damaged"
Maybe it gets damaged or currupted during the time its trying to flash the files to the phone???

You can get gapps from here:

You install it AFTER successfully flashing a rom

[Q] Unable to uncompress ROM file

Hi,
I have downloaded these files
Retail Indian - 5.5.1-EDEM-28-37-SEARET and Retail Indian - 5.5.1-EDEM-27-SEARET (Indian ROM with some cool features ) and I am dragging and dropping it in RSDLite and uncompressing it.
At the end of uncompressing it, I am getting this message "Please check input file. Either XML format is wrong or image files associated with it are missing."
After clicking OK, the path it displays is C:\IndianRetail-SEARET\system\etc\apns-conf.xml
Please advise. I want to change my rom from AT&T to Indian ROM.

Is that one of cogeary's International ROM's from here? If, so read the instructions in the original post - it is a cwm zip install. You must put it on your sdcard, boot into recovery, wipe data, and "install zip from sdcard"

If its a rom u shouldn't need to rsdlite it should be a restore or flash either cwm. Rsdlite is for fxz files. Correct me if I'm wrong

Little help needed
Thank you for your replies.
I understood few things. I use Sony Xperia S and the procedure is completely different than Motorola.
I want to install custom rom on my sister's phone.
Its an AT&T phone.
I want to install Victory Rom and the instructions he provided are below.
Installation Instructions - THIS IS A INSTALL ZIP (NOT BACKUP)
1.Put zip on sdcard
2.Back Up apps with Titanium backup
3.Make CWM backup
4.Wipe DATA(Factory Format),WIPE Cache and WIPE dalvik cache
5.flash zip
Now I am little confused here,
I will copy this file to SD Card and backup with Titanium
But my phone is not yet rooted and I dont have CWM
I understand CWM can be installed through ROM Manager and to perform Wipe Data should we do it from Settings in the phone or from CWM?
And the last step he mentioned to flash and need help how to do that with which software.
Sorry for so many questions, completely confused with Motorola.
yes its from the same place.
Is "install zip from sdcard" an app?

First of all, go HERE - and read up. You need to first root, then install the bootstrap, then you will be able to get into recovery mode (you don't need the ROM Manager app) - and then experiment with installing new roms/themes/mods.
First, I would recommend making a backup while in recovery mode. Also, possibly install CWM(Recovery) on Boot. Then you can go on to installing new roms... Information on all of this can be found by searching this forum. But, definitely ask if you're not sure of something before trying it. It's definitely a learning process.
Good luck!
Thanks a lot.
I rooted the phone and installed bootstrap and now i can see all the key words I have mentioned in my previous post.
hope I will be able to install custom rom without any problem.

[Q] Galaxy S2 need help about CWM

Hi guys. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100)
my firmware is I9100XWLPF (4.0.3)
I want to install this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673478
I did root on my device. I reboot my phone in cwm mode and once I did all wipes. Then I choose "install from zip card" and select files from s3 rom topic. After all of them I reboot the phone. But, nothing happens
(I also installed not only The S3LOOK-V3.5.zip & JKAYLP*-S3LOOK-V3.5.zip but also Framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk however nothing happens both 3.5 - 4.0 versions after rebooting )
I have installed a lot of ROM and customization. But this time I cant install, help me please
(sorry for my weak english)
You have done the wipes
I don't understand what is the problem: your phone can't boot and start or you can't install The S3LOOK-V3.5.zip & JKAYLP*-S3LOOK-V3.5.zip ?
Btw,
Have you done a Wipe/Data Factory Reset?
I think you haven't got to do this.
You wrote: "

Try to do a Wipe/Data Factory reset, then reboot your phone.
Install the S3LOOK-V3.5.zip & JKAYLP*-S3LOOK-V3.5.zip , Framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk.
Now, without any wipes, i think you can do this (as in the instructions in your link):
Flash V3.5 first. Download V4.0. Copy the framework-res.apk to /system/framework, while systemUI.apk to the /system/app. Change the permission too.
This is all i can do, but reply if you don't understand something. Bye

Cant mount sd card in xrecovery

#forger this one its solved right now#
hello guys,
i got a problem... my xrecovery on my x10 isnt workin anymore.
i installed it once with an app and it worked great, then i had to repair my soft (with pccompanion). now it just boots, doesnt care which keys i hold or tap
i have the newest busybox (from the market) installed, phones rooted with the flashtool that you all praise on here^^
i alsotried to install xrecovery with the flashtool, but it dont even show recovery and kernel installer function :/ i think thats cause the recovery dates (in system/bin and system/xbin already exist). i cant delete these...
and i tried to install clockword mod recovery (also from market), it said that xrecovery is missing...
so im cryin for help what can i do
Regards
First, if you have a x10 you should post in the general or q&a section of x10 threads.
Now to the point, I used to have a x10 and what you have to do for getting recovery working again is:
Root your phone, if you are already using a custom rom DO NOT install bussy box from market, some market installers can mess up the stability of your rom, all custom roms have bussy box installed so you'll be fine.
You have to choose which recovery you want, xrecovery or cwmr, the diference is that xrecovery is a "soft" recovery it is installed directly in the rom and cwmr is installed inside the x10's kernel (for this one you must unlock your bootloader) the best option for cwmr is installing a custom kernel for unlocked bootloaders like doomskernel.
I don't have the exact links to the threads you need but use google and review the development section of x10 threads.
