What is the point in an application for your cloud service? - Asus Transformer TF700

I just deleted SkyDrive today because I can't remember the last time I opened it up.
Most file explorers support them and you can just use that. Same with office programs.
Is there something I'm missing? Why would you need this?

It usually just depends on your needs. Some would use Skydrive and syncing programs for documents if you want them to be accessible across multiple devices and such. I personally dont use any of them on my tablet. But I use them on my desktop to backup music and such. It can come in handy if a hard drive fails or something of that sort. It just all depends.

I get that, I use SkyDrive so I can have a backup and access certain file from anywhere.
What I don't understand is the use for the actual (SkyDrive) app itself.

The app just allows you an easier way to access and download the files is about it.

UPDATE FOR TF700 USERS!!! AND THE 4.2.1 UPDATE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2204100

Mainly because most users are not that smart. I use an app called titanium to back my documents up. I have it set that any file in a certain folder is created or changed it backs them up.
But remember, most users are novice and never even heard of the word root

My dad'll be getting an asus eee pad transformer soon, and I have a few questions about apps:
1. How much apps does the honeycomb market have? Are there a lot of good apps(fun games or useful tools)?
2. Will the transformer run android phone apps? And what will happen if I install an apk of a phone app on honeycomb
thanks

This list has become the unofficially 'official' list of apps optimised for Honeycomb.
http://forum.androidcentral.com/mot...al-optimized-honeycomb-apps-list-n-155-a.html
Basically though, most Android apps on the market will work on your tablet and they will automatically stretch to fit the screen though not always perfectly and the odd app won't install or work at all. However on a daily basis now developers are updating their apps to be either compatible with or optimsed for Honeycomb. Just got to be a little patient...

1. Not sure, ~79 maybe 80 by now? That's counting the apps under the Featured Tablet Apps screen. A lot is stretching it, unless the stuff you decide you want ports from the phone to the tablet well, in which case yes there are lots to choose from.
2. It can and will. You will be able to access and install most of the Android Market (Froyo, Gingerbread etc.) stuff, it's still essentially 1 market you just get to see Tablet specific stuff in addition to the phone stuff whereas phones just see phone stuff. If you install an apk of a phone app on honeycomb it will either a. work perfectly, b. work but fit into a phone sized portion of the screen or c. force close (aka, not work at all). There's not much harm in trying. I'd advise you to stick with installing what's visible to the tablet in the Android Market, for now. I'm assuming there's some reason you can't see certain apps in the Tablet Android Market App and I'm confident there will be ports for them all soon enough.

MyLibrary problem with 3.2 ?

Am on holiday in sunny Turkey at the mo and using my TF as an e-reader (and i must say it copes remarkably well in the sun !)
Upgraded to the latest 3.2 Prime version thanks to the local bar's free Wifi and now MyLibrary doesnt seem to keep the TF 'awake' any more ? I keep having to touch the screen to prevent screen dim and/or sleep mode :O
i dont recall this being the case prior to 3.2 ? can anyone confirm ??
Any thoughts as to how to fix ?
I can confirm this. Was using it today and noticed that the screen wasn't staying awake anymore. Hopefully this is fixed soon.
i've also have the latest prime! 1.7 rom with HC 3.2. Since yesterday i've the same problem again. I'm really shure that my screen didn'g go sleeping. I'Ve tried it the last days some times. But i'm also shure that i didn't change anything. The only change was that i've installed the Moon+ Reader. But i don't think that this cause the sleep mode during i'm in the stock reader.
it's also now finding every damn text file on the device whether it's a log file for a game or whatever and adding that as a book. I like the app and how it displays books, no other app displays them right for me but they really just need to give this app some options that can be set, like what directly to look for books in, and a no sleep toggle.
I wish I could just delete the Alice book!
I think my brother told me I can root to delete it... but that's really the only annoying thing for me... and I don't want to root just for that
i've rooted my Tablet but i didn't find till now how to delete alice demo book ^^ there is a thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076081 about the demo epub. But no Solution yet.
I´m also having this problem with my library staying awake. I´m sure it wasnt there a few days ago and I´ve been running stock 3.2 for 2 weeks now. Would a clear cache or reset help as it means you cant read a page without continuously tapping the screen or unlocking it. Mylibrary has always included every pdf or text file. It would be a nice option to specify directory although not essential (like stay awake!)
A new test: I've unrooted to hc 3.1 and now my TF stayed for more then 30 min awake on the same page and i didn't touch it. So i think the problem is perhaps with the stock reader on hc 3.2.
in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1201646&highlight=mylibrary,+reader,+ebook
Tera Tike has uploaded stock reader from prime 1.6. That was hc 3.1. If somebody has time, he can try this. Tera Tike also mentioned that the Reader from Prime 1.6 is mor stable. I can also say that the stock reader on my stock rom with hc 3.1 ist more stable and i have less crashes.
After i get the Asus update, which fixed the compas bug and gives the compatibility mode and some other fixes, i tried the asus stock reader. And for my opinion there is no crashes now for me. Can someone who had problems confirm that and try the myLibrary app?

My thoughts exactly. Gameloft has been pretty unique for offering almost console quality games for android. By the end of the year, they should have some pretty stiff competition.
World of Midgard can capitalize on this. Cant wait.

My expectation is that Gamelofts' arrogance and guarded attitude toward the progress of development to the wider android community will eventually ostracize themselves from that market. Developers, such as the creators of World of Midgard, that take an open and collaborative approach to their development are noticed and create the precedent. Time will tell.
Bummer. I enjoyed playing this on my TF. Now it says I have to update to continue. Perhaps we'll find another patched apk. Really silly that all that is stopping us is not being on the "guest list". It would work fine if we could side step the device check.

There is hope. Below is an excerpt from a recent email I received from gameloft:
Thank you for your letter.
The game was never compatible with Asus Transformer.
We are aware there are some breaches in the Android Marketplace that allows some customers to purchase games that are not compatible with their device, but unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it.
We do plan on supporting your device, its just that we are not allowed to communicate the official date for when this will be.
As you already know, your purchase for this game has been canceled august 10th.
Should you encounter any other issues with any of our products, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
Best wishes,

Guys on the Xoom side of Honeycomb have reported that they can buy OAC 1.0.2 and run it after modding build.prop file. Dunno about the APK's for 1.0.2. I couldn't run it after installing on my Xoom. But then again, I didn't modify my build.prop.

Did exactly what you wrote and it's working! Dude you are my hero! It's a bit laggy sometimes but it's 100% playable. Thank you!
Bugger, I don't have a compatible phone.. the waiting game continues...
This post talks about modifying the build.props file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1219212
I believe it makes your device look like a different one (in the examples, a motorola xoom or acer iconia).
Perhaps you will find this of use for getting this game to work

Passed compatibility check and downloading as I type. The anticipation is killing me...
How do you get these versions for different phones?

[Q] Games that ask for additional downloads.

I have been downloading a few games that ask for additional downloads of a few megs. If i delete them, do the extra bits downloaded also go or do i have to find it and delete it myself?
On Honeycomb, they are deleted automatically.
Usually. If not, well, /mnt/sdcard/SomeOldGame is a clue it wasn't made right.

Make the stock browser *scream* in Jelly Bean!

Want to make the stock web browser really fast in Jelly Bean? I've found that simply doing these two things makes a big difference:
1. Install Browser2RAM (requires root) - After installation, run the Browser2RAM app and then reboot like it tells you to. After rebooting, wait for the "Allow Superuser access" window to pop-up and grant SU access (this step is very important - you may even need to open the browser before the superuser access prompt appears!).
2. Open the stock browser and type "about:debug" in the URL field. Then, go to Settings->Debug and enable the "Enable Cpu upload path" option.
That's it! Not really sure exactly what #2 does, but it does seem to speed things up!
Download Browser2RAM here: http://www.transformerforums.com/fo...5-fix-browser-not-responding-browser2ram.html
Please try it out and let us know what you think. I haven't noticed any bad side-effects of #1 or #2 - please post if you find any.
Thanks.
EDIT: Corrected step 1. You actually get asked to grant super user access *after* rebooting (you may need to open the browser after the reboot before the superuser prompt appears).

I haven't yet pulls the trigger on rooting my tab, but might do just because of Browser2RAM... after all, the web browsing experience is the biggest thing IMO.

Have you rebooted since installing this? While I did get my desktop-Chrome bookmarks to sync by re-installing a JB version of the "gapps" package, I later found (after hours of testing to determine what exactly was causing it) that it also caused my tablet to go through the "Android is updating" process *every* time that I rebooted. I personally really don't *need* the chrome bookmark syncing functionality, so I re-installed everything so that I don't have to sit through that "upgrade" process when I reboot.
Just curious if this method causes the same problem or not - can someone reboot and see if it goes through the "Android is upgrading" procedure after this is installed?
Thanks!

Hmm I just flashed something else which had an aroma install. And it did do the update thing. Not sure if it was due to this or the installer? Weirdly I also lost all my browser settings and had to re login to Google. Will monitor....
Actually, I have installed the file you used and I am *not* getting the 'Android is upgrading' thing anymore - so that file you used is cool!
It was definitely the gapps package that I used that was causing it for me.
Thanks for sharing that file! Now I have my Chrome bookmarks with no side-effects!

Does the brows2ram only work with the stock browser?
Has anyone been able to solve the problem with buffering video from the web and hitting pause for a few minutes? I've found hitting pause when streaming different video sites to cause the stream to stop loading if its paused longer than a few minutes. I have to reload the browser tab to start it over. Its nice to start the stream and hit pause so it buffers a good length. Then I won't have the stream stop every few minutes so that it can buffer more video.
Don't know how it was done, but I tried install what the OP said, and the stock browser is about 3 times faster. He was right, it was screaming...
The only thing is the SuperSU did not pop up and I have to run it to make sure the Browser2Ram is "granted".
Tried out Browser2RAM, seems to speed up stock Browser considerably. Having issues with stock Browser wiping out all my settings though upon restart, home screen reverts to Asus home page. Any fixes?
I get nothing when i type the "about:debug" did I miss something here?
