Hi
-I upgraded my galaxy note 10.1 (wifi only) to jelly bean
-factory reset / restore backup via kies
-I recently rooted the note 10.1 via the ODIN method + CWM as described on this forum
-I tried to install whatsapp via titanium backup pro (failed! keeps hanging on restoring backup)
-I tried to install whatsapp via apk -> note 10.1 says: "not enough disc space to install"
-Then I saw all my regular software updates failed as well (like google play updates, maps, youtube gmail, you know the regular software updates), all with the same response: "not enough disk space to install"
-I have more than enough space on all sides:
titanium backup shows:
system rom: 212mb /1.44gb free
internal+media: 4.6gb/12.6 gb free
ext sd card 24.8gb/32gb free
-I CAN install new applications!!!!
even updates like gmail (about 3mb) failed!!!
Please give me some instructions how I can fix this. If you need more info to help me please let me know, and how to obtain this info.
With best regards,
Bart

Hi, sorry for the late response, i think kies might be the one caused that problem, bcs in Jelly Bean the free internal Space is abt. ~11gig.
otherwise i never had experienced something like that. I am still trying to figure out what happened.
if there is no other solution, flash again with odin and try, then use your backup from totanium. sorry i have no other solution at this time.

Hi there! I'm running a 'vanila' ICS 4.0.4 Nexus S. After the last reboot i'm having multiple pop-ups about applications that were forced to stop. Literally all system apps (Contacts, Messaging, Market etc), Google apps were forced to close. Phone doesn't rings and so on.
Most sad fact is that i can't even manage to install any program for backing up the phone and make a factory reset.
What can I do now?
Any help is much appreciated
Thanks in advance

try this first: go to cwm, choose fix permissions, and see if it works. if not, you can do this: do a nandroid backup with cwm, then, factory reset everything. cache, data EVERYTHING. install any rom of your choice, then, download the titanium backup app, and you can extract app and data from the nandroid backup using titanium. never tested this my self since i backup everything before flashing and clear all data, so app crashes.
hope this helps and please hit the thanks button of you find this helpful!
Thanks for the tip, but i doubt i can do that since i can't install a thing, even appInstaller crashes for me

why do you want to install any apps before fixing it??? do you have a custom recovery?
no, i run a clean version of ICS, i haven't even rooted my phone.
i need to install a cwm app which you offer me as a fix

Oh, I see. You must have installed the update from 2.3 without wiping. Or something like that. Based on my knowledge, the best things you can do are:
1. Wipe/factory reset then reboot.
Or
Root your phone. Which wipes everything including the SD card partition. You can back up the SD card easy. I suggest the latter. So you can flash custom recovery images and do lots more than 'clean' ICS. One more thing, unrooted and unmodified is technically called stock. You will see this word a lot of times. Hope this helps.

I had similar conditions, I thought it was kernel/rom problem. and now it seems not!
I fix it this way: go into CWM recovery, backup, and then immediately restore. and the problem is gone. I know it sounds crazy, but it really works for me... every time.

ok guys, thanks for the help. but i'm thinking of the other way around
can i copy stock ICS 4.0.4 fw file on to internal storage and try to update the phone from HBOOT menu (the one called up with holding 'volume up' key)?
the thing is i have some info on the phone such as sms that i'd like to keep
or perhaps copy whole 'content' of the storage to my pc and move sms base or whatever back after factory reset?
is there a way to access internal storage while in HBOOT menu, cos in the loaded up state i can't copy fw file due to crashing system apps?

I suspect the SMS are stored in the system partition... Google it. If it is, again, you need root to access those files.

I have a galaxy note 10.1 that have a screen problem.
My seller wants to send me a new, but i don't want to have to install all things again.
As i will send it back, i don't want to root it.
Is there a way to make a very complete backup (like nandroid backup) on a non rooted galaxy note 10.1 ?
Thank you

Hello... i have tried with mybackup pro but it seem that it does not backup the datas of the apps !!!
Good morning to everyone.
I have a stock One S, but now the S-off is possible, I would like to install a custom rom.
My question is: after rooting the phone and before installing the custom rom, is there a way to save\backup all the settings\achievements of the apps and system programs that I used in these 6 months?
Thanks in advance

Yes it is possible. I used an app called Carbon (free in Play Store) to backup my apps and their data. Carbon also has a feature to backup sms and call log but for me it messed up received times and dates of my messages. So use some other app to backup those... That might have been fixed in newer versions though. Be careful with system app backups especially if you plan to go to an AOSP based rom. They might cause problems in your new rom.

Titanium Backup as well. Not easy for newbies, but choose backup -> backup all systemdata, then uncheck all and check those with the titanium icon. A backup of data/app with all your apps and settings is a standard function of titanium.
You can see an example on the attached pic.
Keep in mind that unlocking bootloader erases all your apps and their data (mass storage stays untouched). So your data will be erased before you can root your phone. Carbon works on stock unrooted phones as well as it's basically the same as doing an adb backup from your pc. Titanium is way better when you get your phone rooted...

I don't know what an AOSP based rom is, but I wanted to try the ViperOnesS because I don't want to lose the Sense.
With my previous Nokia I was used to backup everything[/U ]with a simple click, using the Nokia Pc Suite.
With this Carbon app do you think I'll be able to do the same thing?
Thanks guys.
So I have to download Carbon and save all the system settings?
I have some applications on the phone memory, and others in the internal storage. Is it a problem?

Carbon let's you select the apps that you want to backup. And I believe it also has an option to select everything at once... When you have your custom rom up and running you can then either restore everything from the backup or restore only the apps that you want. Apps being in phone/internal memory shouldn't matter.

Yes. When you flash a new rom it is usually required to do a factory reset (meaning erase your personal apps and data). That's where backup apps come in handy. When in custom rom, install the backup app (Carbon or Titanium) and it will see backups of your apps and let's you restore them.

Yes, but its advised to not restore system data due differences in frameworks, etc.
Hi, first of all I apologize about my english, because it's not my native language.
I need your help to clarify some doubts I have about the factory Reset procedure.
I own a Galaxy Note 10.1 N8010 16 Gb version. It came originally with ICS 4.0.4 and was updated via OTA to 4.1.2 (I believe it was first 4.1.1 and then 4.1.2, I don't remember). It's not rooted (never was), the state of the tablet is completly official.
I don't mind to reinstall the apps, I have a few of them and they are mostly games, browsers and free ebook readers. Several of them were installed before the update to JB.
The problem is that i feel it behaves kind of sluggish for example in screen transitions, when the virtual keyboard pops up, when using S-Note and others moments. So I want to try a factory reset to see if gets better, but I have these doubts:
1) Do you think it will help when the tablet is behaving kind of slow? (assuming that the tablet doesn't have a hardware problem)
2) Is it a risky procedure? (performed with the battery fully loaded)
3) When the reset is completed, it will come back to ICS or JB will remain?.
4) Will I lose the 48 Gb of free space in Dropbox (I already created an account and I am actually using it).
5) Do I need to extract the external SD card before start the reset process?
6) And finally, how do I initiate the process (key combinations) and which options do I have to select (if there are any).
Any help is apreciated.
Thanks in advance

I think because JB 4.1.2 does not have trim support that after months of use data get fragmented so a believe that a factory reset would help.
I think the rish factor is slim to none especially with a fully charged battery.
The tablet will be restored to your current firmware version that is installed on your device.
Your cloud account will not be lost but you will have to sign in when prompted after the factory reset.
Your ext sd card is safe but removing it couldn't hurt.
After the factory reset there will be about 4 screens that you have to go through. I would uncheck the auto restore function when prompted as there could be alot of apps in your google account that you no longer use and it will automatically install all the apps in your google play account if you select auto restore. I Just manually select the apps I want after the reset.
As a reminder if you had flash installed or want flash support it is not in the play store but you can get the most current version of the apk here http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/installers/archive/android/11.1.115.81/install_flash_player_ics.apk

I know it probably isn't a big whoop, but that site says sm-t210, no sm-t210R.
Even so, I downloaded the rom/firmware (same thing right?) from the live-samsung updates site. I'm just trying to find a reliable way to back up my apps. Too bad Kies only does contacts and stuff. How did you handle your apps before upgrading? Did you use ODIN to do it?

Well either use Titanium Backup or a similar app, or just flash the firmware using odin. I did that and all my data is still present an the update did not wipe anything. And yeah I guess ROM and firmware are pretty much the same thing. At least everybody uses them as synonyms. Though I think there is a slight difference and I personally prefere the word ROM.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Since I don't want to go through rooting again (I had a scary experience with it), I could just flash it? You just flashed the firmware using odin and it didn't affect things like data, game progress (if you have games), things that are stored in memory? I know a few of my apps are connected to certain accounts, so their data is backed up, but my other apps like Pocket I'm unsure about.
What happened with rooting was it caused my device to have a really dim screen with weird colors, and in my panic I went to factory reset because at that point I was trying to get it back the way it was before. I have flashed a stock firmware to get it restored, but that was after I factory reset, so I couldn't tell if my apps lost data since everything was long gone. But if what you said is true, I could theoretically flash 4.4.2 kitkat on my 4.1.2 jelly bean, and my apps would be just as they were, right?
I just wish someone could explain more of the technicality of what flashing a firmware really does to a device. Is it like sweeping a rug out from under a table, with all the dishes still on it, and then replacing the rug with a new one with everything still in place? Sorry, I'm a visual person lol.
Can this firmware (due to the fact that it is completely stock) be flashed in the stock recovery? Just wondering.. I have not modified my device with root or stuff like custom ROMS...

I took a leap of faith and agreed to update my firmware thru kies - and surprise - all my apps are still there, and plus my device is now 4.4.2 kitkat!!! I'm so relieved. Thanks to everyone who's tried to help me!
So if anyone is wondering, if you don't want to use ODIN, you can use kies (just make sure you have the right version for your device) and it will detect the firmware for 4.4.2 kitkat and update your sm-t250r for you!! And you will not lose your apps!!

If you use apps like Asphalt 8, mc4 etc you can save your progress on cloud.
If you want to avoid downloading the big games follow the steps below:-
1)install apk extractor.
2)extract apk's of the apps of which you want to backup.
3)open file manager and go to android obb and copy the main obb file of the game you want to desktop.
4)the extracted apks will be in a folder called extracted apks. Copy them also to desktop.
5)in file manager open android named folder and open data folder.
6)and copy all the data to your desktop.
7) that's it you have now backed up your apps and their data.
To restore the apps first install each apk one by one and then place the main obb file in their respective places and put the data files in the data folder.
As I don't use much apps I had factory resetted my device and then flashed the firmware.
