Hey guys its me dragonhustler with an awesome tutorial.
In this tutorial i will guide you on how to dual boot your allwinner a10 device with multiple roms. AS i am writting this am currently dual booting stock ics rom with christian troy's aokp rom . Anyways lets start.
Please know this i just figured out this method but one thing that will not work is dual booting cm10 with aokp. I tried that but touch wont work with cm10 but aokp is working perfectly. Another thing is that i dual booted from a usb not an sd card but am pretty sure it will work.
First Step [Partitioning Your Sd card or USB]
NOTE: Please know that i done this on a usb flash drive but am so sure it will work on an sd card.
First you need a spare usb flash drive or spare sdcard that you will use. I recommend they should be more than 4gb but i done mine on a 4gb usb flash drive so its stable.
On your pc download minitool partition manager from here ------> http://download.cnet.com/MiniTool-Partition-Wizard-Home-Edition/3000-2094_4-10962200.html
After that install everything correctly and then at the end click finish and launch minitool
When its loaded take your spare sdcard or usb flash drive and plug it in the pc
It will then be loaded into minitool
Right click on the usb or sdcard and choose delete. Yes delete thats why i said spare
After its deleted Right click on the unnalocated space and choose create
Now create 3 partitions EXT4 Partitions
system around 400 or 500 mb, data around 1500 mb and finnaly cache around 700 mb
After thats done all of them should be primary not logical.
Now thats done click apply and wait for the process to finish
When the process is done take the usb or sdcard and mount it on your allwinner a10 and go to the app store and download a programm partition table.
When its downloaded open it up and it will then tell you the partition names on the sdcard
Now you have to look carefully at the sizes so you dont get confused which one is which
I could tell mine because system was 510 mb, cache 540 mb and data was 1400 mb
it wont show the names but you will just know by the sizes
It will probably just show names like sda1 sda2 sda3
so just figure out which one is which and memorise or write them somewhere.
Building a Rom for Multi-boot [Boot.img]
You dont really have to build a rom from source all you have to do is customise it so that it boots from the sdcard you partitioned or the usb flash drive
Ok first take any custom rom you want to dual boot say this one -----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1821398
Now when its downloaded find any boot.img unpacking tools
Now you unpack the boot.img and then find the file init.sun4ei.rc [i think] the open it up with notepad++
After that find these lines:
Code:
mount ext4 /dev/block/nandd /system wait ro
mount ext4 /dev/block/nandxx /data wait noatime nosuid nodev
mount ext4 /dev/block/nandx /cache wait noatime nosuid nodev
Something like that and and it will tell you which one belongs to which as you can see
Now what you do is just replace those nandXX with the names you memorised earliear which. Then place the name for the system partition in the system partition like mine.
Code:
mount ext4 /dev/block/sd1 /system wait ro
mount ext4 /dev/block/sda3 /data wait noatime nosuid nodev
mount ext4 /dev/block/sda2 /cache wait noatime nosuid nodev
sda1, sda2 and sda3 are my codes for the partitions use yours not mine
When thats done just repack the boot.img and save it somewhere for later.
The rom [updater-script]
Now you have delt with the boot.img lets deal with the updater script of your rom
use any unzipping program and unzip meta inf folder in the rom you want to dual boot
Now open up the folder and then with notepad++ open updater script
Now all you have to do is edit where the mount partitions and format partitions for system are
If there are any other partitions like for bootloader just leave them
Now thats done
The rom [compatibility.zip]
open up compatibilty.zip and also extract the meta inf folder and do the same where it mounts for system. Just change the name at the end not all files like dev/block/XX
When thats done just replace the updater scripts of all files with your modded ones
Now thats done take your rom plug in your usb or sdcard boot into cwm and flash rom and after that you will boot into you new rom
For gapps just do the same in the updater script.

Attempting to partition sd card with ext4 -a process I completed multiple times successfully on a Nexus One, the process appeared to complete but now the phone will not mount the sd card. I've tried a wipe/reset, to no avail. I can still access and partition the sd card through adb, but the phone cannot mount it to format/partition, restore from recovery, partition sd-card from within ClockWork Recovery, nothing. I've re-partitioned the sd card through adb, which indicated a successful completion, but the phone still refuses to mount the sd card. If this weren't a Nexus S with it's cursed internal sd-card I would simply swap out the sd card with another or format it externally like all the google topics I pull up on the subject suggest.
Is this fixable or has the fused sd-card scenario become a liability?
Common Error messages:
Can't mount /sdcard
Can't mount /sdcard/.android_secure
Phone: Nexus S (US, T-Mobile, manufactured Dec. '10)
Recovery Img: ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.2.4
Rom: CM 7.0.3 (now wiped, cannot put back on since sd card won't mount)
fstab:
/dev/block/mtdblock4 /cache yaffs2 rw
/dev/block/platform/s3c-sdhci.0/by-name/userdata /data ext4 rw
/dev/block/platform/s3c-sdhci.0/by-name/system /system ext4 rw
/dev/block/platform/s3c-sdhci.0/by-name/media /sdcard vfat rw
Can mount everything except the last one, /sdcard.
I've tried all the recommended procedures garnered from the first 10 or so pages in google, xda, cyanogem forum, etc:
Restore from nandroid: Not possible, can't mount the SD,
Wipe/Reset: can't wipe /media as sd card won't mount,
partition sd card from within Clockwork: indicates success but does nothing,
format from within clockwork: unable to mount,
repartition using adb: works, parted can see them, I can move files to from, but the phone will not mount,
clearing fstab: no effect,
Fastboot works, but I don't have the proper images. ADB works, as do the installed utilities. Have not tried ODIN as again, I don't have the proper images. Should I attempt to compile my own images from source?
Update: SOLVED, Microsoft Windows. To whom it may concern: I was able to mount the /dev/block/platform/s3c-sdhci.0/by-name/media from two different laptops running OSX and Fedora/Ubuntu then successfully been able to partition them with fat32 as the ClockworkMod (and maybe Cyanogen?) expect with 0 progress. Then I pulled out an old Windows machine, installed the JDK/ADK's +tools and performed the same procedure and that time it worked. I'm uncertain as to what particular quality a 'genuine' Windows formatting provides, but either this phone or the particular software combination I'm running require it. I was able to mount & re-partition the /sdcard in Clockwork, then manually remove rebuild them and upgrade to ext4 using tune2fs as usual. In the interim for work and such, I had to find a surrogate (for the SIM) and could only find and old k750i (which still had a full charge and worked flawlessly all day, btw). Wow phones used to be small.
I think I was missing something about the way ClockworkMod handles fstab, because everytime I would modify it specifically to the specs I passed to parted while creating the partitions with mkpartfs, it would either ignore or overwrite them. So be careful messing with the sd-card, the S's aren't like the One's in the sense that if you screw it (the sd-card) up or it goes bad you can't just take it out and format it in another machine/phone, you have to appeal to ClockworkMod. ODIN $ucks by the way, I found fastboot to be much more effective.
If you format the sd partition ext4, then you should change the fstab too.

Likely, this would have solved your problem.
Of course, I don't know, whether the recovery has the vfat type in fstab. You might have to change it there too. On my linux box auto works very well in fstab.
Of course, if you partition your sd partition ext4, you won't be able to use it as usb memory from windows. (At least I am pretty sure you can't, haven't tried)
Well of course I couldn't let it die, I went back and started tinkering again now that I have a way back. I can't change the fstab it seems, whatever I change it to gets over written everytime either Clockwork or the Rom starts. It's weird, I know I'm missing something and I don't know much about CWMod. (had Amon_Ra on the N1, which had the nifty fsupgrade script)

I'm quite familiar with unix style fs and fstab, it's the stubbornness I'm not used to. I'm also spoiled by vi and nano. CW has some nice scripts built in as well though.
After a lot of testing it is time to present "new" way to use dualboot on defy.
How it works.
Stock and custom roms can support different ways to boot a rom. 2nd-init, 2nd-boot and stock.
For dualboot we need 2nd-boot. First we use 2nd-boot to run TWRP recovery from quarx. With TWRP we can mount sdcard as /system.
With a "modded" update script we can install system files to a sdcard partition.
For this you will need 3 primary partitions on your sdcard. First partition fat32, secound partition min. 512 Mb ext3 and 3rd partition min 512 max 2048 Mb. (You can use MiniTool Paritition wizard Home edition http://www.partitionwizard.com/ to create this partitions)
You need to change the /meta-inf/com/google/android/updater-scipt:
NAND
Code:
mount("ext3", "EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk1p21", "/system");
ext3 partition, it is the 2nd partition
Code:
mount("ext3", "EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p2", "/system");
To install the modded zip you have to run the TWRP.
After TWRP boots you can install the "modded" rom zip.
Now we need to install files to boot sdcard rom from your NAND bootmenu.
For this we have to edit the ramdisk from /system/bootmenu/2nd-boot/ramdisk and create a update.zip that install new files to NAND /system.
You have to edit all /system and /data mount points. They have to match with sdcard.
On NAND /system use /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 and /data /dev/block/mmcblk1p25
For SDCARD /system use /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 and /data /dev/block/mmcblk0p3
I use Cygwin (http://www.cygwin.com/) and boottools to edit ramdisk. (sorry can`t remember where i download it)
Now you can boot your rom from sdcard. It is like 2nd-boot.
ROM DEVS can use Aroma Installer to support nand and sdcard install with one zip.
For CM10.1 i edited all files and you can try it.
Check my skydrive folder. /Mobile Phone/CM10.1-2nd-system-for-MS2Ginger
How to install CM10.1 SDCARD if you are running MS2Ginger 5.0
1. install TWRP View attachment 2nd-system-TWRP-NAND.zip
2. set default boot (bootmenu) to 2nd-system
3. reboot --> TWRP should boot now
4. install cm-10.1-20130511-NIGHTLY-mb526-sdcard-gapps.zip
5. reboot to bootmenu and run custom recovery
6. install 2nd-system-boot-cm10.1-2013-05-11.zip
7. reboot and cm10.1 should boot now.
To switch between NAND and SDCARD boot change only default boot in bootmenu.
What sd card are you running this second rom from? class 4 or class 10?
Minimum class 4.
second 10.1 rom from system on sd card running fun!

Any idea how we have to change ramdisk to boot a traditional linux distro from sdcard that works with boot folder instead of the android bootmenu folder?
Just changing hbooot config file to the appropriate kernel and init files?
extracting the ramdisks works fine..., putting them back together seems to go wrong
what command do you use to get them fine again?

Can I have cm7.2 along with cm10 with this method?
I just got my first Android Device (Moto E) and tried to get around the small internal memory by using the sdcard instead of the internal memory for /data. As the KitKat mounting procedure does not seem to be based on vold.fstab anymore, the usual guides to doing that don't apply.
So my idea was to format the sdcard with ext4 and modify the /fstab.qcom file to mount the sdcard as /data instead of the internal data partition. But here's where I don't know how to proceed, as adb shell don't seem to have access to the proper partition during flashboot (though having mounted the rootfs parition which should contain those files?) and is unable to write to the file once the system is running.
I'd appreciate if anyone can point me in the right direction on how to do that.

A little late in the game (I am trying to do the same), but I come across this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=443994
boot partition populates the rootfs. So hack the boot.img (unpack to analyze), and you may find your answer. Hope this helps.
I will give it a shot in the next week.
I have a Galaxy GIO, which is a fairly old low-end phone. On factory reset, I have about 100MB memory free for apps, and the phone seems to start complaining as soon as I hit the 50MB mark; that's about one or 2 installed applications.
Because I would like to actually be able to, well, use my phone for anything else than calling, I want to move the /data partition to my SD card. I know this'll be slow, but slow still is better than not working at all.
I have done a bit of research, and came around plenty of scripts which claim to mount the second partition of the sd card as /data; none of these scripts work. I have tried 'INT2EXT', 'D2EXT', and I've heard about something called 'A2SD' but I have yet to find a copy of it . To install these scripts I've extracted them, and copied the scripts to '/system/etc/init.d/', after mounting '/system', using ADB.
I for an instant thought maybe my second partition isn't formatted properly, but using adb I am able to successfully mount the ext2 partition as /sd-ext, so I don't see why mounting them as /data should be a problem.
I have also tried to symbollicly link /data to /sd-ext/data and automatically mount my /sd-ext on boot. Obviously this didn't work, because the symbolic link isn't actually saved to disk.
How would I go about moving my data partition to my sd card? I am not affraid of doing some dirty work manually. I am running Cyanogenmod 11.

I will introduce how to COPY(NOT MOVING) /data partition to /sdcard.
1. You should ROOT First.
2. Use Rootexplorer to Copy /data to /sdcard (WARNING:If your sdcard emulated with /data, Data WON'T copy to SDCARD --You need external Sdcard!)
2-1. if you don't want to use RootExplorer, you can use Android Debugging Bridge(adb)
(Youshould download Android sdks from developer.android.com)
--Command : adb shell su -C cp /data /sdcard/data
3. That's all.

Thanks, but that's not entirely what I meant. I can manage to move my data to the SD card no problem, but I want my phone to actually use my second partition on my sd card, as the /data partition.

Oops.. Sorry about that!
First, I am not sure that will work or not, maybe you should try to edit init.*.rc. Which is from boot.mg. I think, maybe mounting sdcard as data is impossible, but you may try editing init.rc(or init.*.rc, * is manufacture). You could unpack your boot img, and you could edit mounting point which is from init.rc!
I hope this thing will help you..

I have looked into init.rc, but that only seemed to create the /data mountpoint, but not actually mount to it. I've no idea how to edit the boot image, or what that even is. Is that the filesystem that is built into the kernel?

Hi!
This is a light version from the tutorial described below.
It create a full root WITH option to send your apps to sd card automatically!
How?
Because it create a funtional init.d folder in system/etc where you can put your own scripts to start on boot, giving you full control from your ROM/phone and if you have a ext4 partition in sd card ( 3 GB that's enough ), it will send your apps to sd card releasing storage.
LTE device have a default 2GB /data storage for apps and user definitions, phone call, etc. 3G device is worse!!!
So for a LTE device, 3GB from sd partition + 2GB from data partition = 5GB!
To show you why don´t need more, i have at this momente 61 app in /data/app ( in sd ext4 partition ) that fill 750MB - > 61 apps!!!
If you have a LTE device and your /data partiton is resized you can push a litle the size from external partition to 4GB ( that's enough ), im still trying to find a good size for external partition.
Why don´t need a bigger size?
Because there are file that still inside data partition, in /data/data and dalvik-cache, that still filling up data partition... you can´t take them all ...
3G devices need to be rooted with SuperSu zip first ( i don´t know way ) ... im a LTE user.

I test it in L11 with B370 kit kat factory ROM. From 0.
!!!!Attencion!!!! 3G device users, read pinned post, you need to install SuperSU.zip first than this KingUser.zip to root OR WILL FAIL!!!!
In the step when you will install kinguser.zip change for this one, see the default tutorial here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/huawei.g6.development/permalink/578005512358705/
You need a primary external ext4 partition in sd card with the size you think you need for apps.
To create a primary ext4 partition in sd card with the size you want, you can use mini partition tool (for windows OS ).
http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
Need bootloader Unlocked:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/huawei.g6.development/permalink/504332286392695/
Need a custom recovery, i use TWRP for my L11, U models use more CWM, you can find it in G6SKnife.
Must have Windows OS to use G6SKnife:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/huawei.g6.development/permalink/577809609044962/
Than i modded this Kinguser flash zip that:
-Roots
-create a working init.d folder where you can store your scripts that will be executed on boot
-it will install busybox apk ( it need it to install some system tools )
- Rashr to change recoverys with the phone ( only need to have the images in sd card )
- It will automatically send all apps to your external ext4 partiton in sd card IF you have one!!!!
How to do it!!!!??????
READ IT CARFULL:
If you already have apps in phone do backup, use the phone default app for that.
Copy this zip to sd card:

Turn off and go to recovery ( TWRP or CWM ) by pressing at same time vol + and power.
Do a factory reset.
Go to install and search the UPDATE-Kinguser-3.4.0-Modded.zip and install it. The phone will reboot.
( A) After settings go to KingUser and open it to check if is ok than go back, open busybox, give root permissions, it will take some time seraching for old files than install it!!!!
( you will need this tools )
Reboot, and is done.
If you start from flash is the same process.
Now your apps go all to sd card.

It's possible because works like a symlink. Imagine a room with several doors.
The mmcblk1p2 is the room, the /data/app , /data/app-lib are the doors.
Is working perfectly in my device. No lags.

Hi!
I create a easy way, go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ascend-g6/general/root-upadtekinguser-zip-modded-extras-t3349679
I've instaled the B370 and use Link2SD that have already bought. And it works perfectly and smooth!
With the original ROM / Android it displays a warning that mount must be done after a quick reboot but now everything is working on a normal reboot.
Used KingRoot 3.4.o modified to include /etc/init.d folder creation to Link2SD be able to write mount scripts and with the Huawei B370 cleans everything from Vodafone P that came hacked and pre-installed
Now is better than ever!

Used KingRoot 3.4.o modified to include /etc/init.d folder creation to Link2SD be able to write mount scripts and with the Huawei B370 cleans everything from Vodafone P that came hacked and pre-installed
Now is better than ever!

Hi!
I buy a 64 GB sd card, create 3 ext4 partitions and mounted like this:
So, now I have 24GB ext4 for data, 10GB ext4 storage and 27GB fat32 for external storage... For mt G6-L11. I had before resized data storage to 4GB.
By default is 2/3 , I can't remember.
