have you checked out the first post on this forum? Non-market apps?
Basically you need to use ADB in the android SDK; or Get Root and chance the prefs. DB.
Android central has a app, you dont need to root your device.

Rooting without a PC or Mac

Hey guys. I was wondering if is possible to root my phone without the need of a PC or Mac.
Short simple question. Thanks

Short, simple yet in the wrong section! LOL.
But I don't believe you can right now. There are apps like Z4Root that may work but I haven't tried it.

The first step comes from googling the topic: how to make custom rom.
have you tried this yet?
there are several hits from google, including youtube vids.
You can also read the older threads in the dev section.
You can also hang out in chat rooms and irc...you're more likely to get more help there.
gl
I have looked at Google and you tube but all I found was for Linux or Mac OS and I haven't seen any older posts that helped

have you broken down a rom yet?
Working on it now actually

You have to build in Linux since android is a Unix based system. You can tear apart a stock, or leaked rom in windows and mod it, and/or theme it. But, to straight build a rom, HAS to be done in Linux, ie(Linux mint, Ubuntu) .

Start small and slow, it's really hard to mess things up. The more you do the more you'll learn.
