[Q] Problem flashing 4.2.2/AOKP/Cyanogenmod/AOSP roms - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. Sorry if this has already been addressed somewhere around here, but I have a pretty specific question that I'd like answered. I recently rooted my TF300T and installed the latest TWRP recovery. I've flashed a couple of different stock-based roms (Energy and CleanROM) without any hiccups, but when I try to flash any roms that are 4.2.2 I get bootloops. Is there something that I need to be doing different since I'm coming from 4.2.1? I never dirty flash. Thanks in advance for any help!

Maybe a bit confusing but those particular 4.2.2 ROMs use the 4.1 bootloader and won't run if you have upgraded to 4.2.1 because of the new bootloader. That's the reason that I won't be upgrading anytime soon.

Yeah, it's for 10.4 bootloader. You hace luck that you haven't been bricked yet

Not confusing at all and perfectly answers my question! Not sure how I missed that, but I'm glad that my issue isn't just some big screw-up on my part. Hopefully they'll come up with some more ROMs based on the 4.2 bootloader soon! I finally took the plunge and rooted after debating on whether or not I wanted to for several months....got tired of the lag. Too bad I can't really take full advantage of having a custom ROM with an OC kernel as of yet. I gotta say though...I'm digging this Energy ROM. Sweet looks and pretty smooth as well.

[a700] Stock JB update or CM10

Just got my a700 today and enjoy immediately got a notification that the JB update was available. What I would like to know from some of the more knowledgeable members (and almost everyone is more knowledgeable than me) is should I go ahead and install the Acer JB update or should I root, unlock the bootloader and install a custom rom? I. have read that because Acer has not released a certain type of code, that with the stock JB update I will not be able. to root or unlock the bootloader.

I have flashed my a700 to Pawitp's latest CM10 Nightly build. the screen reaction is better than the stock one. And all the stock apps are removed. Nice!! But once my a700 suddenly rebooted, maybe the conflict of apps. All in all i will suggest flashing to the CM10. Sorry for my poor English.
Stock JB ROOT or CM10 ??
Hi,
sorry if I post here but I can't post in Android Development forum.
I could not resist JB OTA when I turned on for the first time my tablet
Now, can I root OTA firmware??!
I unlocked the bootloader and I tried flash CWM recovery, unlock work, but CWM didn't work :/
Can I now flash CM10? How? (back to ICS?)
Sorry for asking too many questions and my poor english
Thanks
Regards,
Lorenzo

Hey,
Your CWM doesn't work, as it's for the ICS Bootloader. They (Germans) have a CWM for JB, but.... due to issues in the past with some early CWM's, a lot are a little afraid to use it. I haven't seen a lot of problems on the German site, so maybe it is ok. I have it installed on my 701, but haven't had the need to use it yet.
As with root, wait another day or so, and my Mate Civato will finish the modded boot.img for the JB 700, so you guys won't have to do a mess of things.
Will be a simple root.

[Q] Picking up a refurb Xoom (Wifi) - how best to update, unlock, install ROM?

Hi all,
I am receiving a factory refurbished Wifi-only Xoom next week. I am guessing that it will be on 3.0, and I'd like to bring it up to the latest JB and install a custom rom (probably EOS 3 for the moment, then EOS 4 at the next MR).
What's the best procedure for this? Should I take OTA updates up to 4.1.2, then unlock, root and install a ROM? Or should I just unlock, root and flash a ROM from the start, i.e. skipping the OTA updates? Or does it not really matter?
Thanks in advance.

Not really answering your question, just an opinion .....
Why not just leave it on OTA 4.1.2? Unless you have a real need to unlock or some pressing need for 4.2. In my experience the difference between 4.1.2 and 4.2 is insignificant. EOS 3 is conceivably a back step on the OTA updates. Continually updating for updating's sake is fine if that is your hobby (and that is why you are here in these forums), but it might not achieve much. And you could replace a smooth stable 4.1.2 with a buggy and laggy 4.2 - for what?
If there is some app or function you need that requires root or a custom rom then that is a different story.
I am awaiting a refub MZ604 myself so I share you impulse, but I am taking a wait and see approach and giving it some thought.

Hey, thanks a lot for your advice. I wasn't so much counting on jumping ahead to 4.2 just yet, so I'm with you there.
Regarding a 4.1.1 ROM vs the 4.1.2 OTA, I had thought (just based on my personal experience with other Android devices, my Razr in particular) that a nice 4.1.1 ROM like EOS 3 would outperform stock, even a version that is one minor update ahead, since the ROM would (presumably) be optimized, free of bloatware, etc. Perhaps that's not a big issue with the Xoom?
Again, thanks. I'll probably take your advice and see how things go with 4.1.2 OTA for a while.
Interestingly, the refurbished Xoom came with 4.1.2 pre-loaded. I wasn't expecting that. Seems to be running fine.
Mine arrived today. It only took 11 days to cross the world. An MZ604 GED device. Came with 4.04 then promptly updated itself to 4.1.1 then a few minutes later it upgraded itself to 4.1.2. It is pure Android and runs fast and smoothly.
More than happy with this refurb - it looks brand new and 4.1.2 is new enough.

Rooting? Stability? Unlocked Bootloader still possible?

I have a few questions...
I've been around xda for a bit rooting and flashing roms but this TF300 business sounds a bit more complicated so I have some questions.
Build# JOP40D.WW_epad-10.6.1.8-20130225
I have a TF300T running stock 4.2.1 rooted with a bunch of root mods to make things a bit smoother but it looks like custom rom would be still faster than this. Am I correct?
How stable are the custom roms in comparison to the stock rom? Will I be able to get OTA updates in the future if ASUS decides to release more?
Is my bootloader still unlockable if I'm running whatever came with the last stock update?
How hard it is to brick a TF300? I've had 3 phones that were pretty much unbrickable. (Assuming one does not flash the wrong files to the wrong phone)
Which tutorial should I be follow? Can I unlock the bootloader on 4.2.1's bootloader or do I have to downgrade?
Is this sub-forum not friendly enough to help out a new guy who has read through many topics to try and help himself first?

[Q] Installing Custom Rom over 4.3

So I was getting sick of running CM 10.2 on my Galaxy SIII so I decided to go back to Verizon stock 4.1.2 rom and then before reading up on the 4.3 OTA update, I stupidly just went through the update. I didn't know how much of a hassle this was going to be, but basically I was wondering if anyone has any information on how to get off of this standard rom and back into the world of custom roms. Because I really really dislike touchwiz and really just about everything to do with this OTA update that I've had to deal with for the past pretty much month now. Any information will be helpful on steps I can take to get off of this ROM or if any work is being done to make this phone rock as much as it did when I first bought it.

Saferoot and Safestrap only available option right now.
I may add that saferoot is to root your phone and safestrap is used to install TouchWiz custom rom only.
how to get a clean 4.4
I've done the same thing as well with a similar issue, is the consensus that there is no way to move from a stock 4.3 updated phone to a clean non-touchwiz 4.4 such as CM11 or similar? My phone is quite slow and laggy after this update especially the keyboard, so I'm looking to pare things down to speed it up.

Help on a MF1 baseband upgrading it to "?"

Im a S4 and now a S5 user and this Verizion I535 S3 is looking scary. Two years ago I got the phone, unlocked the bootloader, installed a custom recovery, and installed CleanROM Seven. It has 4.1.2 Android Version with MF1 Baseband. With so many threads on updating to 4.3 and 4.4 is very bad with this version of phone, what options do I have? It's GPS is all mest up and hope to improve some battery by putting a new updated ROM on it. Can somebody point me in the right direction and show me some good options with links?

As far as roms you have many choices. Have you tried tightening the screws on the back of the phone? I've read people have had luck with that. I'd stay with the unlocked bootloader

Currently I flashed the latest TWRP and found a old Synergy Rom that's dated April 2013 that runs 4.1.2 and is MF1 based, other then that ROM can't find anything else that I believe would flash correctly. After installing the ROM, GPS was not fixed, and came across the "tightening of screws trick" As everybody has posted, it worked! Nevertheless, on day one got a random reboot and a forceclose on the camera. Still looking for ROM choices that I could use.

Glad to hear the screw option worked. You can always go with a rom that's not 4.1.2 based. There are plenty of custom roms out there for the S3
