Hi bro,
Kitchen doesn't need any sort of configuration.. it works on its own. Kitchen is useful for us only in :
1) unpacking and repacking a boot IMG into a ramdisk and zimage
2) if you have a work in progress ROM it gives you a signed and zip aligned ROM out . So that can be useful
That's about how useful kitchen is for us.
Cygwin which is installed during the process has a few more applications ( I suggest you search) ...
Cheers ..

You may know that CM 10 has files like 225a, and 225A, (the names are made up), but cm10 sure has files that way, and windows can't process both the files... You may end up having troubles when trying to cook cm10.
p.s. you maybe getting the error called application "clear" not installed.

Dude doesnt matter really.. I have done it a dozen of times. :\... I have used kitchen a lot of times.. with cm10 itself. No problem whatsoever with the duplicate files in windows.. I have released 2 ROMs .. Even though the newer builds are manually zipaligned and signed.. the older builds were done using kitchen. And no problems. Search for the post in the cm10 thread.

Anyways, here's something that I made long ago, to overcome the problem of the "clear" command.

Both are the same thing.
It might be helpful, if you face such an issue.
And, to the OP, call yourself a "self-tutored, learning newbie to android development". Humility is very important :silly:

I tried to make a rom
I took Cm10 build 6 and extracted it
Than I extdacted xperia Z Walkman player zip
I put all the files from app, lib, framework and all that pasted them in to appreciate folders of Cm10 rom
Than I zipped it and signed that
And when I try to flash it it says
Error 7 some sysmlink cannot be created
So I thought this kitchen will work
And any solution for my issue????

It has to be at least less than 220 mb unzipped. Otherwise might be a problem..

What Rom are you using now?
If it's cm10b4,5,6/cm10b4,5,6 based/any other Rom , can you tell me the amount of system data in /SYSTEM using this appDisk Usage
Mine is 30 MB and wouldn't let me install apps...I want to verify whether it's normal.. would you?

FYI I have flashed ROMs approximately 220 mb insize after making mods.. They seem to work. If you look at it that way sense 4 has only a few kb of space. But by my experience I am saying ROMs greater than 225 230 mb are not flashable. They don't pass the HTC screen. And sometimes we get an error in the recovery log too. I am on boot2gecko at the moment. So nvm. 30 mb is enough to allow installation of system apps. I think you do know user apps are different.

Yeah...ok, I'm trying to install this Walkman z music mod.. I thought it was space in /system, but now there are lots more ~signature errors ~shared user ~bla bla etc. I guess sak used private keys to sign beta 6,coz it was the same zip that I flashed in beta 3 and it worked... or cyanogen changes...or whatever.. anyway I can't install Walkman now (atleast my privacy is safe )
And exactly 30MB is occupied by /systemdata (10MB free ) I don't know what it is.. and I'm not able to install apps /do anything on that 30MB...so had to make extra space.. it's different in different Roms... in cm9,it's about 15 MB and as you said in sense4,it's almost Nil...so was trying to figure out what it is.. but no use now..

[DEV][TOOL] Kernel Tool Version 3 [22-5-2013]

Hey everyone !
I just made a simple tool for unpacking and packing kernels for Linux using bash scripts ..
Maybe helpful for start up devs and others alike !
I hope this tool will be beneficial to devs / kernel devs / ROM devs too.. for cutting down the time in typing a lot of stuff.
#include<disclaimer.h>
NOTE : Keep a backup of your kernel / boot.img always in hand.. I am not responsible for bootloops. Whatever you do.. Its your responsiblity. If you point a finger at me.. I will laugh at you !
Click to collapse
How to use this tool ??
Download the zip !
Extract it to the suitable directory.
Copy boot img too the directory.
Open terminal.
Change directory to kernel tools directory.
Run init.sh only if your running the script for the first time!
Type code :
Code:
./init.sh
Now tool is configured !
To extract boot.img :
Code:
./unpack.sh
To repack boot.img :
Code:
./pack.sh
To start from fresh again for new kernel build :
Code:
./fresh.sh
I am adding a blank zip to flash any kernel:
Just add modules to system > lib > modules
and add boot img to the zip along with meta-inf folder and system folder .
Hope this helps the whole community !
Those who have issues with " Permission denied problems " ... Right click on the .init.sh and give it suitable permissions.. or do a chmod +x on init.sh and then run it..
Kernel Tool Version 2 !
With new GUI and no hassles !
Worth a try View attachment K-EX-2.zip
New version : Version 3
Great Work Mate :good::good:

Sorry guys, but, this tool is recommended for everyone, dev and n00b alike...
Dev's may like to use commands, but newbies, take some time to learn...
This tool, makes your work easier, and faster...
p.s. use the original commands twice-thrice to get the flow of it... then, consider using this tool
Re: [DEV][TOOL] Kernel Tool Version 2 [31-3-2013]
For changing ramdisk(cm9 to 10/10.1etc. ) ~after boot.img split into kernel and ramdisk.cpio.gz,
Is it enough to replace the ramdisk.cpio.gz from the older working one without opening ramdisk.cpio.gz/messing with it?

Yeah that's fine.. no need to open and unpack it ..
Ps newer version has a kernel Porter.. just name the kernel as instructed in the tool it automatically ports the kernel according to what you want to do .. from boot Img to boot IMG..
And for the kernel devs from a new zimage to another bootimg from which ramdisk is req
Newer tool took a really long time to type .. lol no response (

The problem is that we have insufficient storage space.
Have two copies of the rom you are using on ur sd card. In one zip goto system/app and delete apollo, browser, calculator, calender, cmwallpapers(Dont know why sak included this),dsp manager, email, exchange, gallery and trebuchet.
Flash the ROM (the one from which these files are deleted) and over that flash (u may) gapps, walkman and bravia stuff(too).
U can install those deleted stuff from another unedited ROM....
Enjoy :good::good::good::good:

btw,why does that Walkman z app in there require so much intrusive permissions?
Use accounts on device (this is the same permissions that google play /google login service has)

If you do manage to port, please remove this from Androidmanifest.xml atleast the use accounts, read sms, contacts ~not nice.

[TUT]Int2ext On Android 4.2.2

I have been glancing over the 4.2 roms threads these days . And I have seen that many of us are having problems using Memory increasing scripts . So here is a simple tutorial
1. Download the file in attachments.Rename it to 40int2ext (without any .txt)
2. Flash the Rom of your choice.
3.Go to any Root File manager .
4. Copy the Downloaded file to /system/etc/init.d
5. Change the permissions in permission menu by clicking all boxes .
6.Reboot .
And you are done.

The best of tweaks!!!!

Guys just try this tweak by flashing once and I guarantee that you ll experience that so called buttery smoothness both in apps as well as games. This collection of tweaks contains all the required stuff so that u don't have apply each tweak separately.
Recommended that no tweaks are applied before. Uninstall seeder if u have installed. Entropy values should not have been modified.
Just download the tweak and flash it in the recovery. You must have at least 10mb according to the developer. I recommend u to delete some useless stuff like Apollo, android keyboard, etc. U can install those stuff like normal apks.
If you want to verify that the tweaks are working just open terminal emulator and type:
Su
Directinject
Set the min free values according to how u deal with apps by typing:
Su
Rambooster
Type the following in the same to achieve zero lag in the ui:
Su
Entro
That's it! Experience real working tweak!
Tested on cm9 build 9, cm10.1 beta1.

Do press thanks button in the developer post before downloading the tweak.

Hits thanks button anyways!!!
If you are trying to use this tweak on phones with overclocked kernels, just copy all the stuff from system folder to the respective folders in your phone and set the permissions(check all the boxes using root explorer). Use 600mhz while transferring stuff into system partition. Use any root apps to clear dalvik cache.

There's no relation between these tweaks and WiFi. Flash a better kernel or rebooting solves the Wi-Fi bug. If you are using cm10.1 b3 then WiFi hotspot won't work.

Yeah. It does work. What kinda questions are u guys asking??? There is no relation between the kernel and the tweak above. The bugs if present is are inherited by rom and kernel.

In simple words u just don't know how to flash.
Like I said around 10mb must be free according to developer. But the quality of the recoveries we use just won't fill the memory completely. So delete all the unwanted stuff like wallpaper apks, media files, boot animation, unwanted language packs, etc. Just make the ROM look slim. Flash it. If it boots then flash gapps. If it is flashed properly, then flash that kernel. If your phone works correctly without any apps force closing, then reboot to recovery and flash the stuff.
U can install all those stuff u deleted later. @everyone just don't post stuff like ROM not booting, etc, etc. First confirm whether the rom is booted and then flash this stuff.

Do you kidding me? I am not a st*p*d noob xD... The ROM has 50 MB of free space, so this isn't the problem. The ROM and kernel work perfect, mean that must be the SD card or these scripts or both...
Regards and respect .
does this script has an "uninstaller" ?
