I have an unlock Samsung Galaxy Relay with Android 4.0.4.
With the options of keeping date and time zone synchronized with the network, I was getting the wrong time (GMT 00:00 insted of my actual GMT -03:00). So I decide to disable the automatic syncrhonization and set the time zone fixed.
But every time I power off my phone an restart it, this settings are automatically reset (date and time zone syncrhonized with the network activated) and my time wrong once again.
Is there any way to fix this?
By the way, I don't have in the stock rom any option to synchronize with an NTP time server .
I have the same issue on my Xperia Arc S but with my data setting set to "2G only". It always comes back to "WCDMA (prefered)/2G" when I restart the phone, since the update to ICS 4.0.4.
So unless that is coincidence, I think it's a problem of Android 4.0.4.

i recently flashed my mda and now the time zone is set to saskatchewan every few hour. I will change it to central us and it goes back in a couple hours again. I think when i initially set up the phone i may have accidently selected that one but i did a reset on it and selected central us and it still poped back to saskatchewan. any idea why? thanks

My MDA keeps doing the exact same thing. It's driving me crazy!!
Go into Settings/Phone and click on the Time Zones page. Make sure "Automatic change time zone and clock" is not checked. When it is checked, the device will get time & timezone info from the cellular network -- the timezone info is often wrong.

Since earlier this week (Tuesday or so) my Rogers Samsung Galaxy S Captivate has started to believe it's in the Pacific time zone instead of the Mountain time zone. I live in Edmonton, AB. I'm running Gingerbread 2.3.3 and I've rooted the phone using the reboot loop kernel method as shown on a thread here.
If I turn off automatic time I can select Mountain time manually to get the right time displayed on my device. I figured it was some sort of DST related thing but it's not - the phone still selects Pacific and is still an hour behind the correct time even though DST has now ended.
I've noticed the phone doesn't pop up "auto update of time and date" on top of everything when it's connecting to the network (say, turning flight mode off) like it did on Froyo (2.2) so I wonder if that's related. The really weird part is it flashes Mountain time for a second then goes back to Pacific while coming out of airplane mode.
Ideas, anyone? This is really frustrating. I'd rather not have to maintain the clock on my phone for no particular reason.
nice to see a fellow edmontonian here, but i would think your first bet would be to call rogers and see if there is anything up on their end. as the auto-update of time is "network provided". and i had not been having that issue when i was on that crappy rogers gingerbread.
Hi,
Does any of you fixed the problem that time&date settings are lost after turning the phone off and on? I'm on stock 4.0.4 ASA-10 and my friend, who also has the same problem, is on ASA-36. It's probably related to the SIM-mod we made and no Sprint service coverage to give the correct time on boot, but maybe there is some way to change it? We both have the "automatic date&time" and "automatic time zone" unticked.
It's frustrating...
You need to have it automated. None of the MSM8960 phones from Moto save it for unknown reason.
That's interesting, other Moto's with S4 have this problem? The thing with "automated" is it's based on Internet, and I don't have constant connection. And even if I am connected, the sync is not immediate and if an sms is waiting, it comes with August 2012 date, which is hell of frustrating. I wonder why Moto didn't fix it yet, and how is it even possible in XXI age?
Works great here, but my carrier provides the time via CDMA.
Have you looked at the ClockSync app? I know you said you're not constantly connected etc, but it might alleviate it at least.
Since I put the PACMANROM v21.0 - JB 4.2.2 on my p920, I loose connection to the network at least once per day.
Usually it happens after a long idle time and recharging over night and randomly once per day on normal use.
It did not happen on Stock ICS 4.0.4.
I read it has to do with 4.2.2 and/or 4.4.1 mostly .(?)
I found many threads about this "problem" (mostly on Nexus(?)) but no solution to it.
And I found the tool "3G Reconnect", which sadly wont work on 4.2.x.
I tried "Network Signal Refresher", but it doesnt recover any signal.
Even the helpfile says that no android app is capable of this...
Is there any other option except restarting the device ?
-Selecting airplane mode wont help.
-Starting a call ends up in "call got ended" and doesnt help.
-Trying to manually select a network and/or reconnect to it fails.
I can see that Im not alone and I wonder why there isnt another app like "3G Reconnect" for 4.2.x and upwards. Or is this app considered to be just a shortcut to the "select network" menu anyway ? (means, not a "special" app?) And why cant an app do somekind of a reset, similar to switch on/off phone ?
If there is anything else I can do instead of a reboot, feel free to tell me.
Just recently purchased a Shield K1, and the first thing I did was update to 7.0, everything is working great except for the time function. I travel alot for work, between time zones, and whenever I go from Eastern to Central time zone, the time on the tablet does not update automatically. I have the date and time settings set to Auto Update, and my time zone is set to Eastern time zone. I've tried restarting the tablet and also tried connecting to different networks, but the time won't update. Any help would be appreciated!
