[Q] POSTING (noob) - General Questions and Answers

okay i'll admit i'm new here...but today i found a thread in my device section which i am pretty sure i could help solve (having faced the same issue recently myself)..
but the forum wouldnt let me post in a Dev section as my account here is new.......
how to fix this issue,i have no clue!!

There is no way easy way around this. You need 10 posts before you can post into development sections. After your 10 posts you may have to wait a few hours for the system to update your permissions. Here is a guide on the 10 post rule:

[Q] Please Verify Knowledge of Rooting (Also some rooting Q&A)

Moved to Q&A as requested (Should have know) - Sorry
First of all... move this to the right forums (Q&A). What's with all these people posting it in the development forums?
Second... if you are not too busy, which doesn't seem like from your post, use the search feature and also try the wiki, it might just as well answer your questions.
Sorry
Sorry, my mistake. I thought the Q&A forum was for just general questions about the Hero as where my questions were mostly Android Development related.
Also, I did go through pages and pages of these forums and been through the wiki many times which was how I was able to successfully root and flash my hero. I just want to verify all my knowledge in it's entirety so that I may help other... The post explains this.
I'll move it, thanks for the heads up. Hope no one tl;dr 's it.

[Q] Question about posting in development section

Hello, I have an Arc with BL unlocked and rooted. Today i go on CM7 using {ARC/ARC S}[DEVELOPMENT] - CM7.1.0 - FXP041 FreeXperia Project post in development section.
All go fine at the first try, awesome ROM and great job from the team FXP. When I try to reply the thread to thanks the Team for the ROM and tell them that I am very grateful, hallucinated and excited with the release the forum says to me that i can´t post in that section because i am a new user :S. Also I can read that maybe I need to post 10 times in other forums before posting development section. I don´t want to troll forums for posting in development section. Someone knows a solution for my problem?
I don´t know where I should post my problem, so I choose Q&A section. If I am wrong please take the liberty of moving it.
P.D.: Sorry for my English.
The solution would be to make use of the "THANKS" button, which was made exactly for the purpose to stop thanks posts.
Read the hints for new users, it recommends you to ask questions here and also answer questions here, none of it would be trolling. 10 posts isn't that much

ICS tester here!

kindly send me msg if you have something to test(new release, apps etc) for i9003 for free! its because i use it also, might as well help ....hehehhe
which lead me to wonder if we have bugtracker of some sort(yeah i read threads for i9003 custom roms and noticed the bugs are reported in those threads)
You had to create a NEW THREAD for this?
You could have just posted it at the ICS CM9 or ICS MIUI thread?!
i would if i was allowed to post in dev section ...

Don't be so mean, if there's a qna thread for ics point him to it, no need to tell him off. Its a general thread, I've seen people post threads called 'official off topic thread's with it stickied and 'general thread here!'. I don't know if there is a qna for ics, if I would I would point it to him.

an easy way to do it would be for OP to get the files he wants and start testing, while browsing the forum and commenting appropriately on things they have questions about, etc. since I've heard there's a 10 post minimum before posting in the dev section, I'm sure reading around will help give them an idea how the forum works, and help the apparently unavoidable NOOB FLAME when questions are asked inappropriately. that may be part of the reason for the posting limit, you know
so, cyborg5, why not get those files, install, and read around a bit while taking notes of things you find in testing, and when you reach 10 posts you'll be able to provide feedback in the appropriate place?
thanks.. ive installed this port for 2 weeks now..problems i found were already posted, so to be safe..i didnt repost..and i also found this(tester call in irc)

thanks anyway...!

[Completed] Where do we post, in the main XDA Assist forum, or its subforum?

I am confused as to where requests for assistance should be posted. Do I see a forum -- and a subforum?
We have XDA Assist, which is unlocked to new posts, and then we have Post New Thread, also unlocked and accepting new posts.
I read the documentation for the main forum, and thought I'd post my assistance request there. I only saw there was another area after I posted in the first area.
Or does it make no difference? Sorry, but if this information is already available, somewhere, please give me a link. Couldn't find it!
It depends on your problem. The nature of XDA Assist is to help users in looking for the right place for their issue. For Ex. for your phone, we do not have a Sub Forum Defined. So you'd go to
> Android Development and Hacking
forum. Within it, you can either post in Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting if you have a problem you can't solve. Other wise if its a general discussion on the phone, you can post in Android General
Does that make sense ?
Question that started this thread is answered, may be closed.

Well ... still confused.
Maybe the threads XDA Assist and Post New Thread, are in fact one and the same?
They seemed to be separate, but perhaps I should take note of the first few posts in each, and see if they're the same?
Anyway, I posted in the XDA Assist thread, and it seems to be working -- I see my other post has one reply.
No one else seems confused, so I guess it's just me. :silly:
Different question from different thread answered, both threads may be closed.
So, I'll go to --
> Android Development and Hacking
and then, since it's not a problem needing troubleshooting but just something general on how Android works (I doubt it's phone specific) I think I'll put it into 'Android General'.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! And the instructions for this forum say the moderator will close the thread when the advice has been given, so please feel free to do so, now.

[Completed] New member learning the ropes

Hi
I am sorry to come here and spam this forum.
It takes 10 post to get into a developers section to ask an question and I do not have very much questions to ask other than matters of SailfishOS.
I hope not to get too much spanking here until my 10 posts are done and get rights to ask something that matters :crying:

Hi there,
Please read the thread bellow related to your question:
Postcount limit in developmental fora
If you have some problems to report about some ROM, please use the thread opened in the Questions&Answers forum for your device (you don't tell us what device you own)
Good luck
My attempt was to get a question thrown to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7/development/rom-sailfish-os-alpha-t2859817
Asking about Sailfish OS ROM for Nexus7 3G model (tilapia).
But then, I cannot or I should not post there since it is a developer section.
I'll guess this is the more appropriate place to ask a question.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/jolla-sailfish/general
By the way. Thanks for the guidance. After reading a bunch of guides, this huge site became more understandable. I have been reading this site for years but now is the first time when it seems that there is not a ready answer for a question.
