Questions about Xtremeguard Screen Protectors - Nexus 4 Accessories

I have the body kit from Xtremeguard. I have used the back one since I got my NExus 4, but it feels very rubbery. I'm wondering if the front screen protector is the same as the back one. Thanks

Yes it is, but it looses some of that feeling as you use your phone over time. I have one on my screen and like it much better than Zagg's.

This does not look good.

That goes away after a day. Mine did.
Or you can use a blow dryer to speed up the process.

If I were you I will redo the installation, too many large air bubbles. If you know how to paste dry SP, use the similar technique when placing your wet SP. Wrap your squeege with thin cloth before using, that way you'll have less orange peel effect.

I had xtremeguard protector for about 1 week and it was just so bad. Feels so bad while using. I just peeled it off and threw in dustbin. Not going to use that again even if I get it for free. Ordered a spigen one.

I have NO idea what you guys are talking about...I put the XG skin on the back and it damn near looks like glass. It's just the way you guys are applying it...nothing else, I screwed up my first one (because I hurried) but the second one I took my shveet assed time with and like I said...glass.
Now, the nature of the material is such that it won't be like the more rigid screen protectors...but I've gotten it as close as possible to being without orange peel as possible.

Do you mind giving me some tips on applying the xg screen protector? I have took off the first one and applied a second one. It's the second day and most of the bubbles have disappeared which is very nice. The only problem I have is the amount of dust inside the sp. I'm very new to wet screen protectors. How do you keep the dust off while you are preparing the screen protector wet and ready for application?
Most of what you see are dust
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2

Just applied a third one. This time it's much better. It seems like the key is to use more water.

Soapy mixture with water. Apply it in the bathroom with steam, steam takes away the dust from flying around.

When you're putting the the protector on, there's a few things you must do...(this applies to ANY screen protector product, not just XG...Zagg, BSE, etc.)
1. (Unless you have a spray bottle) Dip fingers in (SLIGHTLY) soapy mixture and flick it on the area that you're applying protector to, don't be shy, water is abundant.
2. Peel back 1/4 of the white backing and flick soapy mixture on it as well.
3. Line up the protector on the surface you're protecting and apply the slightest bit of pressure, just to keep it in the general area, if you don't push down, you'll have the chance to realign it.
4. Peel the rest of the white backing as you're holding the applied part in place. The objective here is to let it fall onto the surface.
5. Take the white backing and put it on top now.
6. Use a card to squeegee the water out...
Now that last step is the part that sets you apart from the bubbly disaster, or as close to glass as possible...
You're not scraping off dried poop from marble here....you're simply moving water out from underneath a fairly soft surface. You need VERY VERY little pressure to accomplish this, but you still do need pressure...
After it's said and done, you'll have some bubbles here and there...don't smash them down with your finger to try to get them out...they'll disappear after a day or 2. Seriously, just wait.
And that's it.

Screen protector - bargin!!! - Large pictures inside!!!

I bought this the other day:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/FoneM8-Desi...?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1273093982&sr=1-14
Got it today and I can report it is a bargin! only slightly reduces the sensitivity of the screen, which I actually like! Fit is good and you get 5 of them for <£2. The seller is doing themselves an injustice.
Oh and put it on with the peel off tab at the top. It fits the other way around (as I found out) but its meant to be at the top.
JAmes.
Re: Screen protector - bargin!!!
do they completely cover the screen?
Ordered last night. will give em a try when they come. the ones i ordered before are rubbish.
Ordered a pack @ £2 one cant complain Will add to this thread when they arrive
Yup total coverage.
I'm gonna buy another pack before the seller bumps up the price.
Can get pictures if wanted?
JAmes.
I recently ordered this screen protector from eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/x2-LCD-Screen...ries_MobilePhoneBatteries?hash=item2559ea1f8e
It literally took only two days to arrive from US and its one of the best full screen coverage protectors I have every used, well impressed. Only £2.00 (including postage) and you receive two screen protectors.
After applying, I have not noticed any adverse affects on the touch screen; if anything, it actually feels better/smoother, with no trapped air bubbles or dust underneath the screen.
Note: lucky i was sent two protectors, I messed up applying the first one because it caught some dust particles in the air if you order this, make sure you apply in a dust free room!
why do you need one when it has a glass screen?
Try and scratch your screen and when you don't manage to and provide evidence I'll remove my protector

Please do - pictures would be great. Can you take one of an unused screen protector too?
How is it applied? With a liquid solution or strips on top/bottom that has to be pulled?
Yo! Pictures aren't perfect I'm afraid and I had to use the flash and I forgot to clean my grubby paw prints off
You get 5 in the pack + a big general one you can use for something else.... dunno what
I've not applied this one perfectly, its slightly mis-alligned at the bottom left which has a knock on effect at the top, but its only off by about 0.5mm so I'm gonna wait until it annoys me too much before I use up another. I've tried to show it in the pics. If it were perfectly alligned it would take a really trained eye to spot it.

It looks nice.
Is it clear or matte?
It looks a lot like one I had from DC Mugen for my Samsung i780 and uses the same method of applying it.
I put an InvisibleShield on my Desire a few days ago. Very nice protector, but I hate applying the InvisibleShield because it always seem to get screwed up.
The "peel" method is much easyer as the whole protector isn't exposed while applying.
Its clear. The picture was taken on top of my mousemat which is frosted glass so might be making it look a little matted. Its also still got the protector covers on which makes it not as clear. Oh and my paw prints are all over the phone when I took the pics.
They are a little tricky to fit, but you get 5 of them for £2 and you can take them off and put them back on, although its difficult not to get it dirty when doing so. Actually I've just read the instructions on how to fit it.... opps I pulled the whole protector off and then fitted it. Oh well I've got 3 left to try
JAmes.
PS. If I remember I'll get some pics in sunlight tomorrow.
Some indoor pictures (like previously posted) but the the screen turned on would also be appreciated if that is not too much to ask.
it looks like the PDAir protector but you only get one of them and I already made it dirty.
Plus could not get the air bubbles out.

lol... never thought of scotch tape! maybe you could try it in your bathroom after you have a bath as the steam will remove the dust particles from the air.
I bought some of these from eBay last week and have to say its a brilliant buy. under £2 for 5 is a bargain. I have passed one of my spares to a mate. Perfect fit on screen and no noticeable reduction in sensitivity. Just make sure you give the screen a good wipe with the cloth provided beforehand and you should be fine. No air bubbles and after over a week of use I have nothing bad to say about it.

Most protectors you can wash under the tap and 'apply wet' to the screen. I've done this a few times with various devices if you dont get it right the time/ get a spec of dust underneath etc. You simply squeegee out the water with a credit card (or similar) with a thin material wrapped around it to avoid scratches. Very much like window tints.

How scratched up is YOUR back cover?

This is mainly for the people who usually run or have used their phones naked, ie no case or skin protectors on the back.
I'm really ocd about having a lot of scratches on my phones so I usually run a body guard protector on the back because I don't like cases. I am using a body protector but it sucks, Phantom Skinz to be exact and it never sticks to the corners so I gave up on it. I don't recommend it.
I'm just going to use it naked on the back, but how beat up is the back of your phone?
Try to include if you use a case
How long you have had it
Any falls/drops/etc
When you lay your phone somewhere, do you lay it on the back or front
And pics
No scratches on mine. Only use a case when lifting at the gym (arm band for listening to music).

Zero scratches. Have had the phone since June 15th and no cover at all. I do keep my phone separate from keys and everything else that would scratch it - Also clean it everyday with wet, no-lint paper towels.

been a month now, no case just screen protector, dropped like twice and still no scratches,

Been running my naked since day one, I have slight scratches right under the power button that do not rub off, no where else. The phone is in my pocket most of the day.
Mine is not. I put a full body zagg skin on it.
No case here neither. I don't believe in them. It takes away from the phone, the slim naked feel and such.
None, its in my pocket most of the time and on a desk at work or school, screen up off course. The chrome part around the ear piece looks like it can get scratched easy because I put coins in my phone Pocket and I guess scratched it. Not visible unless under direct light but still good.
Thank God this phone doesn't have a chrome piece around the bezel because I hated that and if it got scratched I'd go nuts just starring at it. I have ocd about keeping my phone in a mint condition as well.

No protective case or skin since purchase date of 6/15, still not a scratch.
Baddd
I use a case for the HD7, seems to fit the best for the type of case i was looking for.... I just want a simple foam Android sleeve, like my nexus... Anyways, even keeping it in there, my back cover is f*cked. Will be ordering a new one ASAP, I'm pretty disappointed with the build quality on this phone. They could have done better.
The foam sleeve could be the thing scratching it up.
3 weeks with no cover. Usually sits on my desk or sofa and gets transported in my pocket along with an iPhone4, wallet and handfull of loose change.
No damage to report
5 Weeks no scratches at all!
No scratches but have dust under my lens.

Since June 8th zero scratches. Completely unprotected but I take good care of it. It gets it's own pocket off work and uses a holster during work. I always lay it face down.
Not even a month for me and the only scratches on my phone (around the camera lense) were from the gray/black Body Glove cover I bought from T-Mobile. The only reason I bought it was they could not remove it after they installed it. They said they would refund the B/G with reciept, but it was thrown away when I bought it.
Could have been worse I guess, could still be using a Vibrant
@durps is your cover scratched?
Mine is scratched. Not on the back but on the front

I bought the ballistic BC case and I love it. Except for the screen protector. It got scratched and really blurry and it really ruined the amazing quality of the infuses screen. So I applied a regular screen protector (pack of three from Walmart for 10 bucks) and popped out the built in case protector easily by pushing on the edges and then put the case back on and now I must say that I am back to liking the case. And I am most likley going to dremel off the little Red bar behind the camera because it gives my pictures a red tint to it. I was skeptical at first but now its all good.
(Edit)Does anyone else get this when they take a picture with flash?

so why do you even want a screen protector? The glass is scratch resistant and off course the screen looks so much better without it.

Because scratch resistant doesn't mean it will never get scratched. Even with just light use there are ever so slight scratch marks near the top of my phone.
I have no scratches on my screen. Even after taking a key to it lol. Anyways what i came in here for was to say i had the ballistic case and the proximity sensor part was messing with my phone. I have the same case and I removed the built in protector not long after getting it. It just takes away from the beauty of the screen.
Are there any good ones that don't take away from the luxury of the nice screen?
I have that same case.. I love the belt clip holder. And no. I don't have that problem. And I take a good amount of pictures. I hope that dremel fixes your problems.
And as you said.. those Walmart screen protectors worked fine? There's not any give on the front part that clips in? It seems like there would be more than usual because it is a lot thinner of a protector? (for everyone that doesn't have one it's a fairly sheet thick of pllastic)
And if you are coming here thinking of getting one, I will share my experiences with you. The case is made up of a hard plastic that is a .... well let's just say it's really hard to take off. Not impossible but especially that first time. This makes battery pulls harder. Sometimes you can get around it by killing the phone by holding the power for 6 or so seconds and then hitting the volume keys at the right time but it doesn't always work. The outer layer that comes on the case is nice and bulky. If you think that you will be sticking it in your pocket with this layer you got another thing coming. It's a very sticky plastic which makes it very hard to pull out of a pocket. It works very well with the case holder though. A rather obnoxious thing is there is slits around the base layer that the case slides into. The top two and the bottom two tend to come undone very easily. They always seem to slide out which is annoying. It's doesn't exactly make it feel like the case is going to come off but annoying. The only way that you can keep it in your pocket is if you don't have that layer on which decreases the protection. It feels VERY solid when you have the extra layer on and rather secure when you don't. It's also a little rough on the hands around the edges so if you have soft girly hands then you might want to looks else wards towards a pretty smooth case. But if you are a man and work in something tough or just aren't sure where you will drop it, this is the case for you. (Have never used otterbox..). But that is NOT to say that this case is by any means perfect. I had this problem where it felt like the vibration inside the case was going to rattle the phone to pieces.. that was kind of unnerving but I got used to it after a while. Then when on vacation I hopped onto a hotel bed, my right hip landing on the bed and the hip belt holder BROKE! I wasn't very happy because I was busy and couldn't go to ATT but it would no longer hold my phone. After all these problems I took it back to ATT where they quickly traded out the case for a new one.. I had my receipt of course.. I THINK they used it? Not positive. I have had this new case for 2 or so month have jumped onto my own bed and haven't broken it. It's also worth mentioning that at ATT they mentioned something about a one-time exchange policy. one coworker to another which means I can't break it again within my one year time frame. D: This is a bummer because I went through 3 ipod touches in one year. Let's say I realized just how much water was in my life... And finally if you are still reading this thanks, I didn't mean to make it so lengthy. In conclusion, it's a good case, pricy but protects it well. It's dropped a few times and I haven't really thought twice, because it's "designed to survive life".. just don't jump on a hotel bed.

i would recommend getting a screen protector. the first week i got mine, my little brother decided to get a hold of it and chuck it across my room. i got a huge gash due to it landing face down and sliding on the hardwood floor. two days after that i dropped it from about 2.5 feet up and my glass cracked. i was so excited when i found out how expensive replacing it is. (ie: about $200-$400), i now have replaced my glass and put a screen protector on

Screen protectors don't protect from drops AFAIK. I got mine like 2 months ago and no protection used, not scratched yet. I used my captivate for over a year the same way and I only had ONE scratch because I was stupid enough to put it in the same pocket as my keys.
I've had mine for about 4 months now. No scratches/cracks. I handle my phones carefully, though. It always goes in my back pocket, away from other objects, and I take it out when I sit down.
Bought my phone the first day they were released.
It has a tiny 1/2" long scratch. Barely visible, but it's there. I accidentally put it in my pocket with car keys. Don't normally do that. But I didn't notice for about 30 minutes while it was in there and I was moving around a lot.
I removed my screen protector about 3 weeks ago because i hate how it easily get finger prints. I love the feel of the glass and it doesnt get any scratch even if i put it in my pocket a lot..

I was going to leave my skyrocket bare until I read all of the reports from other users about how the Gorilla Glass is less prone to break but can scratch very easily. So I had Ghost Armor at the mall put a protector on my screen. Two weeks later, my wife threw me a set of house keys while I was reading an email and they landed right on the screen. The protector took a beating. I had it replaced for $5 and the screen is still perfect.
It's a compromise. I'd rather have it bare, but you take a chance that an accident will happen.
The skyrocket doesn't have gorilla glass.
Mine is cool. It has a dedicated pocket though.

I've had my white Skyrocket since mid December and so far I don't have a mark on my screen. I can't stand screen protectors and within a day I had pushed the one in my case out. I do keep it in a pocket by itself though.
I bought it in December, and since then, I installed this case. It's pretty decent, no problems so far.
Mine has a dedicated pocket as well.. pretty good way to keep it safe. Owned mine since november, and it has one small scratch about 2 cm long that is only visible with the screen off and holding the phone as a certain angle.. not bad. Not as scratch resistant as my captivate though I'd say.
since early Dec. no screen protection. no scratches. never put it in my jeans pocket with anything other than paper stuff.

[REVIEW] Halo Premium Anti-Glare/Matte Screen Protector

Promised to do a review on this screen protector, so paulo this one's for you. Haha. Well I've had this screen protector on for about 4 weeks now, and I absolutely love it. I would definitely recommend it, especially for those on a budget. A $5.95 well spent.
Pros:
Dry application
Precise cut outs
Great touch responsiveness (Swyping with this bad boy is a breeze.)
No fingerprints
No smudges
Better visibility in sunlight
Looks sexy lol
Cons:
Took me 2 out of the 3 protectors to get it on right, or without bubbles. Maybe I'm just not good at that.
Screen quality degradation (This is expected with a anti-glare/matte screen protector. There is some pixelation, which is really noticeable on white backgrounds.)
You can but it HERE.
Pictures that took me forever.

Thanks for the review. I already ordered mine and just wanted to check out some more images of it. Out of curiosity, what case are you using? Also is there a notice gap between the protector and the lip of the case? The first few images make it seem like it, but the rest make the gap appear small.

I'm guessing you are taking about the difference between this picture of the screen protector:
vs
Well there are two reasons.
1. I didn't apply the screen protector perfectly. You can also see the little bubbles created by dust left on the screen. So I took it off, and tried again.
2. Two different cases. I doubt this affects it, however, considering I switch the cases out per week and the gap between the screen protector and the case doesn't increase or shrink.
I have two cases. The white one the Mercury TPU Nexus 4 case(comes in many different colors), and the black one is the Acase Superleggera Pro Hybrid dual layer Nexus 4 case(also comes in different assortments).
I'm also using this screen protector and I love it too, great price ya can't go wrong with these. ????

I bought this screen protector 3 months ago but never used it, as it looks like a hassle to apply if it takes going through most of them to get one that is applied properly. I just kept the stock plastic protector on mine; maybe after that gets destroyed I will give it a try.

its pretty simple just be quick, and i would day do it in the restroom, less dust in the air. always works for me.
I've installed countless screen protectors for me and friends. For the wet ones, you definitely want to be in a steamy bathroom as that helps settle the dusts. The dry ones, need to be done quickly. You can slip a small piece of tape between the screen and the screen protector to grab some of the dust. The stickiness of the tape beats the static force created by the protector. Not sure of its technical name.
My silliest method was to put the phone in the middle, on top of a fan blowing air upwards. That way it created a space where dust will not be. It worked perfectly.
Any place to buy this internationally?

Man. That sucks. Well honestly if you wanted to. I could buy one and then post it up onto eBay and you could buy it off of me for the same price. Just the shipping cost would be different since you're international. Not trying to advertise or anything just suggesting.

i`m surprised that there is no bubbling at the edges at the price the Halo is selling... or is it not caught on the picture?
I assume this will be the same for the glossy version?

I mean, I guess there is. But to notice the bubbling you would have to nitpicking or looking in with a magnifying glass (not really). I'd say the bubbling on the side is about .25 cm from the edge. Really slight, and with my case on you can't notice it.
Slightly off topic, but what case is that on your N4 OP?
