[Q] No wifi tethering at all for i815 - should I return this? - Galaxy Tab 7.7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I _love_ the galaxy tab I just bought from Verizon, but I bought it for one reason alone - wifi tethering when I'm on the road.
I have tried every ROM I can find, every app, hacked app but cannot get wifi tethering to work.
I have 4g tethering with my GS3 on t-mobile but the Verizon network has MUCH better coverage when on the road.
Should I return the 7.7 & get a Tab 2 7.0 - I don't like it as much but must have tethering? It seems there are AOPK ROMs for the 7.0 - which btw was the only rom I found that would give me tethering on my GS3 (built-in & it works great).
Any recommendations for getting tethering working on the 7.7? Thanks for any help!

*Fixed* wifi tethering on Verixon Galaxy Tab 7.7 SCH-i815!
Hi All - wanted to post an update, I got it working using the Custom, Stock ICS ROM 4.0.4 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1932597
*I wiped everything clean in CWM & flashed the 'wipe' version of the ROM only, which includes Gapps.
The native 'Mobile Hotspot' works GREAT, and I am happy as a clam - don't have to 'downgrade' to a lesser model Tab 2 7.0, and have my hotspot I need. I'm getting almost as fast speeds on my Verizon hotspot as I am on my Concast cable: 23-26Mbps down, 7-10Mbps Up.
Many thanks to Electon73 for the custom rom!!

[Q] T-Mobile Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus webConnect?

I have a sim card I used with the original galaxy tab 7.0 and internet worked fine but now that I have the galaxy plus I get the message "To connect to the Internet with the device you are using, you'll need a webConnect data plan." Is there a way around this? It has to be something software related that is detecting this since with Gingerbread or Froyo on original galaxy tab did not have this issue. Maybe an app from T-Mobile that is blocking this? For ex. on the SGSII phone, just had to freeze the "wifi tether manager" to get free tethering again. Any help would be appreciated guys and gals

[Q] (help) motorola xoom 3g verizon ..updated to ics wifi only os

Hi guys I need help or info about this Ive always wanted Motorola Xoom wifi only but I received Verizon one with 3g not upgraded to lte . I rooted it and installed ics for the wifi only system from Google or android website its stock ..
And works actually very well no 3g ..nothing about service I don't mind since I'm not with Verizon and not planning to go with them I just need wifi but my question is ...is it right I mean everything works good only the battery It seems like honeycomb stock verizon build battery stays longer is it because of wifi only ice version ..or something I'm not sure if somebody can help me with info
Hmmm ... me too. I have a Xoom tablet arriving this week, and it was listed as "MZ600 Xoom, LTE ready, Verizon". Which rom version should I install? I do not plan to activate it with Verizon, as I already have a dinc running CM7 nightly build 258, and waiting for ics. I would just like to run ics on the Xoom. If I don't activate the Xoom, which rom should I use, or CAN I use??
If both of you are not planning to activate with Verizon, using a Wifi only ICS ROM won't be a bad idea. I too have installed this to a friend of mine and he hasn't experienced any issues. You will not be missing out of any features because the only main difference is the 3g / LTE radio.
So anyone has seen the stock ICS for the xoom 3G version?
AFAIK wifi only is the only model to get an official update. Running the wingray build on cdma or lte is just fine.

4g tether

yes. i want to tether my sprint ns4g's wimax to my galaxytab 2 7.0 and laptop. help?
currently running cm9 nightlies.
Here's what I use ... works great with Gingerbread roms. With CM9, you may need to change the Device Profile from auto to something more compatible.
Edit: I just went back and checked, and setting Device profile to Samsung Epic 4g is what worked for me.

Enable ad hoc tether

Hello I was wondering this tablet can connect to ad hoc tethering yet? Is there a wpa supplicant file someone could point me to because I couldn't find anything while searching. Thank you.

Easy solution, to which no root is needed, is to install FoxFi on your phone. They removed it from marketplace. Just Google for the apk. Install it on your phone. Then install the add on that's in the marketplace. Works flawlessly for me. I had same issue where newer ICS and JB builds on my nexus 7 and note 10.1 wouldn't recognize the old wifi tether app, which used ad hoc tethering and needed root on phones. I've used Foxfi on my old Atrix phone and worked. Tablet picked it right up. Now I have my new Samsung Galaxy S3, which is completely stock. Installed foxfi on that also. Now I can tether my 4g LTE speeds to all my tablets with no issue. No root was needed on phone. App works great on stock phone. Its likely your phone is supported if its a decent/popular android phone.
I don't thinknthe supplicant file method will work on the note. I know I tried it on ly nexus 7 and didn't work. FoxFi solved everything
Supported stock no root.I use my tab more 10.1 connected to cell all the time.
Supported out of box

I think its more so, what particular app people are using to make the ad hoc tethering connection attempt. As people have been reporting not being able to connect. I know, on my older rooted atrix, the tablet wouldn't see the connection using the old tried and proven Wireless tethering app. FoxFi solved the issue for me. I think people that have paid hotspots feature on their phone can get it to work out the box(may be wrong). But alot of others, not just this tablet alone(prime, nexus 7, etc..) have had issues getting ad hoc tethering to work since newer builds of ICS. On prime, we used an alternate wifi supplicant file to get it to work. But later updates caused that to not even work anymore.

Funny you mention that. As I have the old unlimited data plan on VZW I had to spring for the additional hotspot charge to tether my S3. Worked great for a couple weeks then stopped. "Saw" the phone but couldn't lock on an IP. Before the last update. Both phone and tab were rooted stock at the time. Staff at VZW shop had no idea why. Figured I'd ask to not give any cause to jeopardize my plan. That said, FoxFi works great!
Weird.
confirmed working for me..
Foxfi running on papasmuffs CM9 HTC EVO build..
using 'Pdanet Tablet' on the Asus Transformer stock rooted .27
Thanks for the thread as was going nuts playing with the old tether program..
Search is your friend..

Only other thing I can think of is to try using the wireless tethering app. But instead of wifi, choose Bluetooth tethering in options. Its not as fast as wifi but still good for normal usage. Any connection is better than none I was using Bluetooth tethering for a while until I found solution.
Hello there,
I'm pulling this post back from the depth of the forum to ask if there is any news on this front... Foxfi is not working on my phone (motorola Defy), and neither is Wifi Tether. Bluetooth tethering (via PDAnet for example) works but is extremely slow...
Would you have a suggestion either for an android wifi tethering program that supports interface mode, or about a way to add support for ad-hoc wifi in the note 10.1 ?
Many thanks.
