App to turn screen on? - Samsung Infuse 4G

My friend's infuse accidently took his power button off the phone and broke it. Is there any app that he can use as a way to turn the phone off or on? Thanks.

I don't know any apps for it.. But flash BeanStalk to his phone and there's this thing called "Volume Rockers Wake Phone" So you can use your volume buttons to turn the screen on but if you cant flash it then i suggest you get a power button replacement

Yea i was looking into that earlier today.

My power button is also broken and I get around it by using the volume rocker wake feature that cm10 offers and use button remapper app to program the search button to turn off and lock the screen. Been using it this way for months and it does fine. Also easy to flash updates since blue cwm recovery also allows the search button to be used to select items. I couldn't do this with the red recovery.

Broken power button

The button dosnt work it seems to click normal and I did not drop it or anything else to make it stop working right. So my question is: does it have anything to do with the rom im running (cm7 nightly 179) or is there anyway to make another button take over the action of screen off/on?

You can set the volume rocker for screen on and you can have a widget to power off
Rocker on is in cyanogen settings

prob does if you get it since it is a widget but im sure its not alot
well volume on widget off is working but it is incredibly annoying to not have a power button. has this happened to anyone or is there any write up on fixing a button? or any solution for my button?
thanks!
I had the same issue. Used the app in this thread to remap the power button to volume keys. Then changed the power button in the app to "focus" to disable it. This app modifies the build.prop file so you only have to do this once or after each rom flash.

Have same problem, it really pisses me off. One day it works fine, the next day, nothing changes and it doesn't work at all. The button clicks fine, it has a case and has been well taken care of, and still for some reason the most important button breaks.
If anyone has had the same problem and found a remedy please let us know.

Remap the button.
I think you should find a way back to stock and test it. I had a bad power button and regardless of the rom they do fail. Get it back to stock, and if you can do a warrenty claim

I am surprised by how many Captivates have this problem. Once it fails with your phone off, you may never be able to get it to turn on !!!
I had cognition 4.5 installed and i was at work sending a text where all of a sudden my sister screen shut off and I heard the locking click sound. I hit the power button and it was locked. I unlocked it and it did it again. And it got worse and worse till the power button stopped functioning altogether. Getting back to stock was a pain as to get into download mode typically requires holding power, after hours of googling someone on these forums suggested using adb and a gui. I was able to reboot into download and use hemdale to get back to stock, and i was off to an AT & T warrenty exchange center to get a new phone. It seems to be a common problem amongst all android phones, as I have a friend who used to have a droid incredible, and upgraded to a droid bionic because his power button died.

you don't need a power button at all to get into download mode. or adb, or gui.
The power button is replaceable on the board if you are highly skilled with removal and re installation (it's soldered in place).
If you have questions about replacing it...PM me.
My power button acts kinda flakey at times, but then works fine for a long time.
My power button is all good now, been using this cappy since October, rooted, cyanogenmod 7.1, it's like a new phone. But I'm about 2 weeks away from the 90 day refurbished warrenty running out, hope nothing breaks on it again

do you know where I can buy that part? I want to change it.

I need help!!!!!

I bought a phone called Samsung Captivate from craigslist. The bad thing about that is the power button did not work. I knew it didn't work thinking I could fix it. I took the phone apart to clean the button. I read that a "CRC QD Electronic Cleaner" would help. I used that. It didn't help. I am think that software is the issue. I want to return it to a stock ROM becuase this phone is rooted. In order to do that I need the the power button to work, to enter it into download mode. Ive tried apps to shutdown the phone, Nothing would help. If anyone can help me that would be awesome.

ya use adb or you could always buy those dowload mode micro usb things on ebay
If you want to turn it off just pull the battery. You don't need the power button for download mode. hold both volume buttons and plug in the usb from the computer

There are thankfully multiple ways to get into the recovery and download modes. Definitely get a handle on the ADB command line to, it's the easiest in my opinion.
If you can't fix the button don't sweat it, I've used my cappy for the last 6 months without it. Use ROMs that have a "volume rocker unlock" feature and learn to use the soft buttons to navigate recovery mode.

Power button issue, random power button press

Had to return to the captivate after my s2 broke. My cappy is having random power button presses, even when the phone is not even touched, although a light touch on the power button turns it on, and a hard press sometimes doesn't do anything. In assume it is most likely a hardware issue.
And I have a question about something else. My cappy has a gingerbreaduckh3 and I'm wondering how to get a custom rom like muiu installed. I know a captivate is different from s2 and you have to mess around with bootloaders.
I need an answer to either issue

To get to a Dev Rom...
See TRusselo's Flashing Guide. It is up to date.
For the power button issue...search in the general and q & a forums. There have been quite a few threads on that issue as of late.

Broken power button

So my brother showed his phone today and the power button acts like its held down and then sometimes is not responsive at all. I remember on my S1 having the same problems, what I did was made the power button the search key and turned off the power button all together. Anybody have and good ideas on power button workarounds I'm not newbie I just have been using my gnex and n5 so long I kinda forgot the whole Samsung game. He is currently running Beans ROM.
Or maybe anybody had any luck cleanings the power button if so how did you do it? Thanks!

I would try Button Savior from the Play Store first, I've never used it but it will let you turn off the power button. I had the same problem recently and no cleaning/repair I tried worked, I ended up just opening the phone and prying the power button off the motherboard. My phone's button problems were preventing it from starting up correctly, and made it impossible to boot into recovery. If your problems aren't that bad, obviously a software solution is better than ripping parts off the motherboard.

The popular method would be using xposed installer with the Wanam module.

[Q] Nearly broken power key

On my Samsung Galaxy S 4g (t959v) the power key is nearly broken and i have to really push it with 2 hands every time i want to on or off the phone screen. the problem is getting worse and i need another way to unlock and turn off the screen of the phone. I dont have the time or skills to open up the phone to fix the button and still have the phone working when i put it back together (i have broken many devices this way) are there any apps that i can use?
my phone is rooted
Check the play store for power widgets to turn off. Maybe you can remap the power to camera or volume button for on.

There is an awesome app called Tasker. It's amazing and you can use it to reroute the hardware keys to do different things e.g. volume up = screen off, etc.
