Nexus S shutter sound - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Anyone know how to turn off that horrible shutter sound when taking pics ?

There are two ways I know of.
First way: Set the phone to silent or vibrate only mode. In my case, this silences the camera, too.
Second way: This is (semi-)permanent, but it requires write access to the system partition. You don't need to root your phone, but I think, you need at least to unlock your bootloader.
In my case, I use clockworkrecovery and "adb shell" from my computer.
Anyways, you need to rename or delete the files camera_click.ogg and camera_focus.ogg in the directory /system/media/audio/ui
Then the camera app will not find them and will stay silent.

thanks for ur help
but first way didnt work....I'm on 4.1.1
then I have try 2nd way...but i dont know how to unlock bootloader....Hope to find a way in this forum

Hm strange. Putting the phone into silent mode has always worked for me, as far as I can remember. Now I am on 4.1.2.
Anyway, All the guides to unlock your phone are in the forum. But read carefully before you act. Unlocking the bootloader will wipe your phone clean and delete all data. So be sure to make a backup first, should you decide to do it.

Unlock locked android phone

I have a LG optimus 2x unrooted and i i have forgotten the password to unlock it "i was kinda druk when i set it"
Its not the pin fo som put it is the built in number code that is used.
Is there some way i can get passed this code. The phone is not rooted but if it is possible to root without unlock it im willing to do it.
But if there is a way to solve this without root i would like that option first.
can yu access tha phone as it is lock?
i cant log on to the phone but i can see the notifications att the top but i cant drag it down
I think you'll have to do Hard Reset. Unless you talk to LG support
My bad. Unsure what the answer is for you. Sorry dude.
cant you do a restore with a pccompanion?(i dont have the same phone so...you understand)
i thing you should communicate with the lg support!
On some phones there's a "Forgot Password" button on the lockscreen where it asks you to put in your Gmail address and password so you can reset it.
use the gmail recover option, i don't tell other options..your post history doesn't really show you owning the phone. sorry
there is no forgott password or anything like that.
Never used the pccompanion or something is that LGstuff or is it some other app.
About me not owning the device : If you have an aoption to unlock it i can send you a copy of the receipt and pm or mail to you.
boot into stock recovery and wipe
Thats just the thing i want to avoid.
Delete the lockscreen apk.
maybe you should hard reset it..

How would that be possible if i cant get in to the phone.
The forgot password option shows up after u enter the password wrong a few times. Just keep entering random 4 digit number untill it gives u the option but if it locks you out and still doesn't have the option stop trying. You will just lock it out longer.

[Q] Unrooting the Razr HD

Hello everyone,
I rooted my Razr HD a while ago, don't remember why. Anyway, I ended up getting a new phone and switching with a friend. And now I need to unroot it so my Mom can use it.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I know there was an automated tool somewhere but I can't locate it.
Btw, it's rooted with Safestrap. I don't know if that changes anything.
I suggest u to use universal unroot utility by MattGroff and u can uninstall safestrap normally
Sent from my XT890 using xda app-developers app
I would uninstall SS prior to un-rooting because you'll still need to get into the app to uninstall the recovery. It might not let you in if you don't have root access.

If you go into the actual SS app on your phone, you can uninstall recovery. Do this, prior to deleting the app. If you delete the app first, you'll never be able to delete the installed SS recovery because you need the app to do it. Uninstall recovery through the app, then delete the app, and then delete all the SS folders and backups on your internal to get you some memory space back. As for the root access thing, I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think you'll be able to open the SS app if you don't still have root access. It's a root access app but I'm not sure how that would work.
Well it looks like the phone has been set to factory..I turned it on just now, and I think my mom or dad may have done it. It works fine. But there is no SU or SS apps on the phone, I just checked. But when I boot the phone, I still get the bootloader unlocked message. Which means its something in the SD card correct? Any idea how to clean that up?

If your BL is unlocked, there's no way to relock it. However, I know there are some flashable boot logos running around somewhere in this forum. Just find one and flash it in recovery.

you can go to settings/storage and erase the sd card but that wont get rid of the warning. also, if it was rooted, it still is even though the su app may have been removed.

[Q] First-time rooting questions from a noobie

I've never rooted a device, but have found an app I need that requires root access. So, before going through with the process, I just want to cover my bases to make sure I don't end up with a bricked device. So, first, a few questions:
- Is unlocking the bootloader the same thing as rooting? Are the terms synonymous, or are they two separate things? If the latter, which comes first?
- Do I need to back up my apps somewhere before going through the process? In other words, does rooting wipe the phone? If so, can I still download the apps that are stored in "My Apps" in Google Play?
- After rooting, will I still have access to and be able to download apps from Play?
- Does rooting make the device more vulnerable to viruses and malware attacks? No change from unrooted?
- Are there any general risks or drawbacks to rooting (aside from the potential of bricking the device)? Any standard functionality I lose by rooting?
Finally, I found ChainFire's root process. Seems to be pretty simple/straightforward. Is that all I need to do to gain root access? Anything else I should be sure to do?
Thanks!
Have you read the stickies at the top of this forum and the top of general? All your answers are there.

1. Unlocking the bootloader is just that - giving you access to the partitions on the phone. Gaining root access is like having administrator privileges on a Windows PC - you can install/do anything to the OS
2. Unlocking the bootloader wipes the phone, rooting does not (as the phone is already unlocked)
3. Yes, although some apps don't work on a rooted phone
4. Of sorts, yes, but so long as you're careful you'll be OK
5. Not really, and you'll usually gain functionality if you move to a custom ROM
I hadn't

Also
Is ChainFire's process the easiest way for me to get what I need (namely, root access to download an app)?

I have always done the following:
1. Unlock bootloader (make sure you back up any files on your phone before hand as they WILL be deleted)
2. Flash CWM/TWRP (I've always been a CWM man myself, but it's your choice) through fastboot using 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img' - where 'recovery.img' is the name of the file you downloaded. I always rename mine 'recovery' purely for ease of use
3. Boot the phone and copy this to the phones memory - http://download.chainfire.eu/365/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.69.zip?retrieve_file=1
4. Boot into CWM/TWRP and flash the file you've just copied to the phone
5. Reboot and enjoy!
Haha

Haha, that's way above my head. I'll try to break down what you said:
1. This is done by turning the phone off, then holding Power + Volume down, correct?
2. Are these custom ROM's? I don't really care about a custom ROM right now, just having root access.
3. When you say Boot, do you mean turn it off again, then turn back on normally? Also, would I turn it off again after copying the SuperSU file?
4. No idea what you mean by this.
5. Getting there slowly...

1. Check this thread out - it outlines the entire process http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507905
2. No - that is custom recovery that you need to perform nandroid backups (full system backup)
3. Yes
4. Go back into your newly installed recovery (step 2) to install the SuperSU file
But again, check out the link I provided above - fairly straightforward.

OK cool, I think it's all starting to make sense. I could really accomplish the same end result without flashing a custom recovery, right? I most likely will flash a custom recovery, but as I understand it, a customer recovery isn't an essential part of the process, correct? The essentials are:
1) Unlock bootloader
2) Copy the SuperSU file to the phone
3) Boot back into recovery mode, flash the SuperSU file
Is that accurate?

That is correct. Only 'issue' is that you won't be able to take a full system backup (aka nandroid) before rooting.
(make sure that after you start your phone up after step 3, and get your accounts set up, update the SU app from the play store - new vulnerabilities were fixed)

not sure which thing you are referring to - chainfire developed the SU app. Not sure what automation you are referring to.

This is the important thing - read up and make sure you understand what you're doing and be comfortable with it all. Once you do it a few times it becomes second nature
an advice which came useful to me:
use original usb cable!
i've spent hours by trying to install custom recovery after unlocking bootloader.. tried number of times but having the error logo while booting to recovery.. then switched to original usb cable and everything worked fine at first attempt.
maybe this will helps =)
Recovery is important
I'd suggest this procedure:
1) Unlock bootloader
2) Copy the SuperSU file to the phone
3) Boot back into recovery mode, flash the SuperSU file
4) Flash a recoverylike cwm

[Q] Can someone give me their backed up TA File? And other questions

Hi, I'm in complete meltdown today. I didn't do thorough research and unlocked bootloader on my Z3. Now I regret it.
I heard you could restore the DRM files by mounting the TA files back onto the phone. Can someone give me their backed up TA files so that I can restore DRM features on my phone? I cried this morning because of my ignorance.
If not, can someone help me add "CWM-Based Recovery 6.0.4.7 Recovery" on my phone? I can't seem to load "Advance Stock Kernel with CWM Recovery v01 (FW: 23.0.A.2.93)" onto my phone. The program used to load it won't just make it happen.
I think I can handle the rest after that, but I need some suggestions.

Other than that, can someone find me a PERFECT alternative for Music ID?
Is there also any way to restore "Sony Entertainment Media?"
How about fixing "Audio Quality and Volume Enhancements?"
Finally, will "PS4 Remote Play" still be broken?
I tried emailing [email protected] with the following message:

which made me lose the DRM files.
I'm in the process of relocking my phone. After relocking my phone,

From my understanding, you could delete the old partition and add a
new partition into my phone that has the DRM files, correct?

I am sure someone could share it with you, but you will be a fool to restore it. The TA partition is individual. If you restore one from another phone you will permanently, 100%, completely hard brick your phone. Do not even think about doing it.

No, they will not help. It well documented that unlocking the boot loses functionality, why would they restore it for you when you admit to unlocking and throwing away your warranty? It is actuall 100% impossible to restore the keys after unlocking unless you took a backup prior to unlocking.
You can however, do a search for restoring DRM functionality, that may help you.
I think you have to try to software it by sony companion (re-instal the frimware). if you cant then try to lock your bootloader and try again to frimware it by sony companion
gregbradley, I followed all the instructions on the internet and I can't get it to install CWM recovery. Maybe later on after work (8PM EST -5 GMT) you can do teamviewer with me? Or am I being unreasonable here?
As for Music ID, please give me the alternative you prefer the most.
Sony Entertainment Media shows as "unavailable" on my phone. Basically, unlocking bootloader killed it.
As for "Audio Quality and Volume Enhancements," audio quality has been degraded because of unlocking bootloader. I was wondering if there's a software or app out there that fixes it.

You should now flash a FTF and exclude system (and kernel if you have just flashed a custom kernel)
How did you install CMW? was it via flashing the doomkernel? That is for D6603 only
Yes, I own D6603, the Z3, not the compact or other variants.

You sure it won't mess up my phone?
Just use the current version of the app then should be OK I've had no issues

Lockscreen: Try again in 1440 minutes.

Hi guys,
I have a big issue with my Samsung Galaxy A21s. I set up a password for the lock screen a couple of days ago. Everything was working fine, but yesterday my phone randomly decided to lock itself for 1440 minutes (24 hours) after typing in my correct password once. I waited those 24 hours and tried again and it got locked for another day again. The password is 100% correct.
Or course I tried restarting the phone and booting it in safe mode, without success. I tried unlocking it on my computer via Google find my phone (I don't have a samsung account set up), but it appeared as offline, even though it is connected to wifi. I have to mention that it has airplane mode on which I can't turn off and NordVPN is installed. The phone has very few apps installed, such as Telegram, NordVPN and Instagram, no malicious third party applications...
I don't want to hardware reset the phone because it has very important things on it. Sending it to Samsung isn't possible as well, I don't have a bill for the product.
Please help
Do you have bootloader open ?
If so you can flash a file than break through the password

thanks, I would like to try this, although my phone is like 6 years newer than the post... how do I flash it without using my phone? Should I use bootloader or something, can you explain?
That IS why I asked you if you could flash a file.
Did you ever unlocked your bootloader ?
If so, you have to put twrp on your phone (there is many tutorial for each phone in the forum), and then flash the file with your sd card.
If your bootloader IS locked, I don t know how install TWRP recovery, but maybe there is a way on the net.
What is your phone model ?
Ah okay thank you... Model is Samsung Galaxy A21s

I dont have bootloader set up and if I understood correctly, setting up bootloader and twrp will erase all data...
Absolutly not, I don t know how to unlock bootloader other than via the parameters, but I doesn t erase any data, same for TWRP.
Find a way to unlock the bootloader, then just install TWRP with Odin, and then you just have to flash the file.
