.....works much better than the standard HTC Sense Camera app.
99% of the problem I have is blurred photos because my hands shake.
Can't remember where I found this app, but it's a Sense Camera app that you just install like a normal APK.
No need to adjust anything, just take a pic and no blurry photos!!
Try it, it's awesome!
Make backup first.

any recommendations?
Camera Zoom FX in marketplace
burst up to 16 shots @ 2mp each... works very nicely.... and is free.
Vignet is an awesome camera app. Has so many filters and can shoot from full res down to tiny size its a paid app though totally worth it. You can even import other pics from the regular camera to add filters. Which is pretty sweet.

I second Vignette. I just bought it yesterday, and its the best camera app i've used thus far!
I wish somebody would make a digital camera quality app for this phone. Something that let you adjust settings to the level of a modded Canon camera.

I don't know what kind of settings you can really adjust, I mean, look at the camera... it's not exactly fancy. There's not much you can change, there's not even any optically zoom on it. All that you're going to get pretty much is software filters and stuff.
I third vignette. Also check out Camera 360 it has alot of cool functions. It has a free and paid version I use multiple apps to get a good feel of things
Here are a few samples I have taken using Vignette , Camera360 and even a littel Photoshop.com app
cool, ill try out vignette and see how it works out. the list of features is pretty impressive.

no burst mode though
The iPhone had alot of great apps to replace the stock camera. What's the best one for the Droid X? When u had the G1 i had purchased Snap Photo Pro and i redownloaded it on my DX but it's buggy as he'll. Im looking for something that allows you to tap the screen to take a pic plus plenty of other features.

A lot of people like Camera 360.
I personally don't like it, but it might be worth checking out.
Thanks. Really just want to be able to tap the screen to take pics.

try using vignette... i absolutely love it!
Vignette is BY FAR the best camera app for the Droid X!
I would like to agree on this! It is the best addition to the droid x! The pics are just that more vibrant! I always compare it to the Evo and guess what, the X always wins! Its not by liking but by actual aperture and density in the pictures! The live shutter vs digital is by far some kind of feat!

Just purchases Vignette, its f**king awsome. Love it. Thanks guys for the recommendation.

Vignette is great. Camera 360 does a few things better but if I ha to pick one...
Based on the posts in this thread I've been using Vignette for a few days and LOVE it.
One of the things I was really disappointed with in the phone was the picture quality, that disappointment has completely gone away with Vignette.
I didn't like that I had to keep going back to the home screen to switch from camera to video, but then I found the option to turn on the video button to switch with one tap.. awesome!
I'm pretty impressed. It didn't seem that much different from FX Camera when I looked at the previews, but once I opened it up - WOW!
I just purchased Vignette, and I'm finding it a huge improvement over the default camera app. However, I'm having trouble deciding what the best everyday settings are. Any ideas from you folks?
I second Mikerrrrrrrr's request, I got Vignette but I'm not sure how to use it effectively yet.
So far I'm using no effects, 5MP fullscreen (16:9) with auto WB, auto focus, and steady shot. Does anybody have other suggestions?
Also, is there a way to manually configure exposure and ISO settings?
I'd still go for Vignette. I also deleted the generic camera app via a root uninstaller as I won't have a need for that app.
I use Camera Zoom and it's awesome. Definitely worth checking out.

I can personally vouch for Camera ZOOM FX; it has a great interface and is really good to use; it also supports high resolutions.
Does anyone remember the link for the modified version of the stock blur camera, that saves the 8mp setting after its closed?
Also - Try the HDR camera, by almalence, does a fantastic job of capturing details and putting the 3 images back together.
I like retro camera. It takes pictures then "develops" them for 30 seconds or so, and look vintage as hell.
This is the true aosp camera that will work on evo sense roms alongside your htc camera
Any more info? or screenshots etc?
install this like an app?
thanks
Thanks snandlal!
Installed it like a regular app.
Works pretty well in both camera and video modes.
Wish it had more options though.
Thanks a lot.
This is a step in the right direction. Would be nice if someone could take this and add all the changes that cyan had added to the AOSP camera in his rom.

Sorry I don't have a screenshot, but if you have used CM6, in the early stages before Cyanogen added all the new features to the camera, it is the same camera. Shows up as 3mp, one user said that even though it says 3mp, it is actually 8mp. I can't confirm this, as I no longer have this camera app on my phone. Can anyone else confirm the MP on this camera? Easy way to do this, is to upload a pic to your computer and open it in any photo app. You can also find the pic on your phone and long press the pic and select "Details". What is the resolution of pics taken with this app?

No, the resolution of pictures this cam takes ARE 3mp. I confirmed the resolution after snapping a photo.

That's what I thought. I remembered the original camera from CM6 was only 3 and this looks like the exact same setup. I deleted when I saw the lack of options. I wish someone could mix in the changes that Cyanogen did to the cam app in CM6. That has a LOT of options.... lol
I am coming from a Vibrant and although by the time I bought this phone the Vibrant was laggy, GPS was hit and miss, and allot of apps would force close, it still had a very good camera. I don't understand why this camera at 5mp takes such poor pics. I have a very good camera but sometimes I do forget it, it's too heavy, or I don't charge it so having a nice camera on the phone would be beneficial. Anyone know how to fix this problem?

You really think the camera is bad? Seems better than the hd2 I had. Have you blown them up on a computer and looked at them or are you just going off the phone? Maybe im just easy to please its really fast and works pretty well
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
No I haven't blown them up I just zoom in from the phone itself. I take the same pic with my husbands iPhone4 zoom in and it is still crisp and clear, with my phone it is very pixelated.

I saw another post around here discussing this, and in it someone said to change... from widescreen to 4:3? I believe..? I don't have the phone yet so can't look in the phone for ya. It's here in the forum tho.
I think the pictures are pretty good. Here are a few I took a couple of days ago:
Speaking of "pop"... Those reds look really nice and deep. Nice choice of images.

Strange. I started the other thread because mine were NOT so good. There are limited settings in the default camera, and I have set mine to the highest resolution and do not see any other adjustments in the setting menu.
At the wide mode, my files were only .6 - 1.2 mb (compressed I am sure). Yours are 3 mb - and much better quality - are you using the OEM camera?
I get MUCH better shots using the 360 Camera app - but not when using the stock camera app. If you are using the stock camera app - is there a setting I have missed?
I vaguely remember a post that said the camera is not set to 5MP by default. You have to set it to 5MP within the settings.

I set it to 5MP first thing - so-so pictures followed.
I use Camera 360. The uncompressed images look far better than when using the stock camera app.
It's unfortunate that the stock camera app doesn't allow manual compression settings. But that's why we have developers.
stock camera compresses the s out of the shots.
Go vigenette or camera 360 (all these were taken using either of the 2)

heh, I could have been in any of those pics. I was at Don's Bogam BBQ the other day (down the st from pic #3), playing with my new MT4G at dinner.
Hey, I'm running paranoid android v20 and my camera just won't focus properly. Every photo I take in the regular app is either barely out of focus, and it doesn't adjust, or is in great focus but then it makes it completely out of focus/blurry and takes the shot! Ugh. I have Camera zoom FX in the meantime and that works, but I want to use the standard app. Any ideas?

Have you tried reflashing the rom? Or is there any possibility at the installation or a separate zip to reflash only the camera app? Or have you tried a different kernel?
No. I guess I could reflash gapps. It's weird though. I just took a few blurry photos and I looked in the gallery and they weren't blurry at all. Good, but why doesn't it display like that while snapping the photo? I can't know quickly if it was clear or not. :-\
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda app-developers app
I never experienced that on paranoid Android myself, maybe try reflashing and see if that helps. Best wishes.

Don't worry about it, each photo I take it displays as blurry, but in gallery they are fine.
Note: I have the 4.2 Transformation Pack
