Hi everyone,
Just saw this article on Android Police:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...pi-display-dual-core-processor-android-4-2-2/
Really similar specs to the One S. qHD screen (about 4.3"), 1.6GHz dual core (I wonder if they did that just to beat the One S by 100Mhz) and 4.2.2 with Touchwiz.
Will this beat our phone in benchmarks, on the Sense 4.1 software and the CM10.1 4.2.2 software? I sure hope not.
We all know how bad touchwiz is. I don't think it will beat the ville

I doubt it will beat the One S. Considering the dual core snapdragon S4 isn't that outdated yet and still powerful as ever. Tempted to upgrade to that? Well, i think the rumored M4 will easily beat that, considering the rumored specs of it, so i'll just wait for a little while.

I thought the One is the previously rumored 'M7' and not the 'M4'? Imo, the S4 mini's specs is just like our One S (960x540 qHD, 4.3" amoled screen), but i've read somewhere that the M4 will have a 720p 4.3" slcd-2 display..
Looks like there would be a battle of midranges. Hopefully, HTC would really release a midrange phone to battle out with the S4 mini. And with the rumored M4 specs, considering it's really true, i'm pretty much sure it will easily beat the S4 mini.

If the S4 mini DOES have an S4 pro like ours, that might mean TouchWiz ROMs for our phone
In fact even if it doesn't have an S4, we could soon start seeing TouchWiz ROMs

Do you much prefer TW over sense? Imo, sense is more premium, professional and elegant looking while the TW is more of cartoonish and premature. But then again, maybe it's just me..
More important now is that, will HTC really release a midrange phone namely M4, or we're only given false hopes..
If that phone gets good cm10.1 or cm11 development maybe we can pick somethings from that

Also like the poster above said, we might get CM11 or future builds from that phone if ours doesn't get it.

Love the design. Love how they made the hardware buttons into that thin illuminated stripe. Way better than the 3 large silver buttons they had before. I'm usually an HTC guy, but if this phone comes out at the right time I might pick it up.
I wouldn't mind them making the next nexus

Hopefully, real performance will be butter smooth...

Guys I am planning to buy a new phone. I want your suggestions about choosing the right one. I am relying on good battery life and phone which has a good amount of development going on (custom roms, kernels, miui, cyanogenmod, ics etc.) coz I love to fiddle with devices a lot. My current choices are :
Samsung galaxy R
Samsung galaxy S plus
HTC Desire S
HTC Incredible S
These are my options but senior members can suggest me phone in range of 23000 INR ($475).
Thanks in advance guys

Isn't Galaxy Nexus coming to India soon? It definitely has those things (though battery life preferred with custom kernel) and is probably of choice (until the new quadcores come out in a few months anyway) for tinkering. But I'm not sure you can get it for $475, unless they offer it more cheaply there. I got mine for $550ish, and that's considered cheap here.

Yup. But $550 is costly for me. Already pushing my limits for my said price range

Umm.. If you look for design and Sense UI, go for HTC. But if you want a performance device then I would suggest Samsung R or S Plus.
Thought for 23k you can even get Optimus 2x or Optimus 3D.
But if your just gonna stick with Samsung and HTC. I would suggest Samsung for the performance. No wonder HTC's Sense UI is far better than any other device out there but its just your decision whether wanna go with Design and Looks or Performance and Built Quality!
have a look at the new Htc series One,
HTC One X, HTC One S and HTC One V

2 years ago, I prefer 3.7" phones to 4.3" phones. But now, 3.7" and 4.3" seem too small for me. Just try it first and you'll like it and even want a bigger one. Anyway, the 4.8" screen was rumoured to have a 16:9 aspect ratio.

I see. For that price, you might consider the HTC Sensation. I think the HTC Rezound occasionally gets that low (say with special promotions), but I can't find any at this moment.
I'm not familiar with any of the "cheaper" manufacturers (Huawei or the like) but it might be something to look into.
If your not in a hurry to get a phone. I would suggest you too wait for like till April or May. There are like 20+ phones getting launched by then.
HTC's One series are gonna be available globally by April. Even LG, Samsung, Sony has launched some new phones and they all comes with ICS 4.
So you may wait for sometime and I bet its worth waiting for.

That's actually a good point. Old phones usually take a price dip when their successor comes out. The HTC Rezound is sure to take one when the One X comes out, for instance, similarly for the Samsung Galaxy S2 when the S3 comes out.
So if you can wait, I'm going to speculate that those phones might dip down into your (OP's) price range. (But you should allow for a margin of error ).
If I were you, I would check the forum on what phone has the most development ... That way, you can have a lot of Rom choices hehehe

I'd like to know why too.
I've got my HTC desire for ~two years and never had any problems. + there are a lot of roms for the device.
Among your choices I'd go for the HTC Desire S.
What phone do you think will be the hottest thing on the market this year?
Phones that I know that are being released this year that will be contenders are:
HTC One X
Samsung Galaxy Note/Journal
Samsung Galaxy SIII
Droid Fighter
New iPhone
Personally, I got my money on the S3 as the hottest phone on the market this year.
What do you all think?
Thats a short list
Why everyone forget the Xperia ones?
Xperia S by far trumps any phone on that list in terms of aesthetics.
the new iphone of course!

Please define "hottest" because these threads are total nonsense. Just a bunch of random subjective opinions.
I just don't think "hotness" is something you can quantify...
That aside the GS3 will probably be the technically superior phone in terms of specs.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-4
The gs3 has not been verified by anyone that it will come out this year.
The xperia although probably good looking most likely not up to par with the new phones coming out this year.
I'm going with the HTC one X because it has a 2500 Mah. Battery. Apparently it has a very good camera so that's a big plus. Comes with HTC sense 4.0 and ics .
If not the HTC one x the HTC jet since its almost the same except it comes with a dual core krait processor which is more powerful than the quad core tegra 3.
The end.

Only 4 in my opinion
1. HTC One X
2. Nokia 808
3. Multimedia - Samsung Galaxy S III
4. Elegance - iPhone 5
Also, contenders and phones to look out for
Huawei Ascend D1 and Quad
ASUS Padfone
ZTE Era
BlackBerry London
It will be s3.

I'm happy with the Galaxy S3, even though the HTC One X+ will probably be packing a quad core. I don't think that there will be much of a difference in everyday use.

Why Idc about the one x+?
Coming from the one S I find the gs3 screen better. It Sucks in daylight but it doesn't bother me. Another thing is battery. They one+ is reportedly rocking the same size battery as the one x. Higher clocked processor with more cores = terrible battery life. Another reason is HTC in general. Coming from the one S I still don't think they even have full s off because Htc hasn't released the source code (last time I check people still couldn't make custom kernels) whereas Samsung released the gs3 instantly. Last reason is the sense ui. It's wack compared to touchwiz Imo.
I make enough money to get a new phone monthly if I wanted to. I won't be buying another Htc branded phone for a while. Not until they get better at supporting the dev community. I'm even still in my 14 day return period and I won't be returning it. Now release a gs3+ with an s4+ pro (quad) and you win me over lol.

Not entirely true. Tegra 3 processors have a 5th core clocked @512mhz that runs all the background stuff if the cores aren't needed...thus giving it a better battery life. And, the GPU made by NVidia is awesome. Our Adreno 225 is just no match...sorry to say guys....but if that one x+ does come out with Tegra 3 and JB right or off the box...looks like I'll be making the jump. I'll still keep my s3 tho...like I do with all my phones.

Hmmm,...Im not seeing much of a difference. In fact, the S2 Snapdragon wins at least as many as the Tegra 3. Granted, if its at 1.7 GHz, it will make a little difference.

Ehh, I prefer Samsung over HTC...so...not really. There's really no need for quad core phones. Some people don't even have Quad Core PCs. :/
I was an HTC loyalist before the Galaxy S3 came out and the One S wasn't gonna cut it for me so that's why I pulled the trigger on the Galaxy S3 but little did I know how much I would love this phone! Now I'm not gonna lie, when I found out about the One X+ I was mad, but if you think about it, the X+ will probably not have a removable battery nor a SD Card slot which are deal breakers for me. Sure Tegra 3+ will be amazing because I'm a gamer on the phones, but 2GB of RAM, Removable Battery and SD card slot is too hard to give up! I love my GS3

I'm super happy with my SGS3. If you need high benchmark scores to make you feel like cool kat, then you should probably go with the HTC, however, WE all know that benchmark scores don't mean squat when compared to real world usage. That being said, those of us whom have already grown up are quite contempt with our Samsung phones. Believe me, I used to be a die hard HTC fan, always getting the latest and greatest of all their devices. Although one can only take so much before they just give up all hope and walk away feeling betrayed. After all of the random reboots, frozen screen, crashes, loading screens, glitches and disappointments, I decided that enough is enough HTC has let me down for the last time. I am now a born again Samsung lover, I feel sorry for ever straying in the first place, however, I am more than thankful that the SGS3 has brought me back to where I belong.... Nah. As a TMO user who enjoys the International/World phones: Galaxy S4 news was a disappointment. Was really hoping Samsung would've stuck with just 1 phone especially for us who enjoy Samsung using Wolfson DACs in their phones instead of mediocre Qualcomm SoCs. Their desire to constantly do yearly releases with little benefits is wasteful. They should've just stuck to promoting the S3 alongside software updates until they really have a good product on their hand.
