Hello all,
I have an LG G2X P999. I got this phone two days ago, and tried to root it. After watching some videos, I realized the phone was already rooted- Because it had the superuser icon in the menu, as I saw in videos.
Moving along, I downloaded ROM Manager. I flashed CWM and then tried to install the latest stable version of Cyanogen Mod.
After restarting the phone from CWM, it gets stuck at the Second LG Bootscreen.
When I hold the power button + Vol Dwn button, I see the android and the arrow. I realize now, that means CWM isnt really installed.
However, that doesnt help with the issue at hand- I cannot bypass the Second boot screen.
No matter how long I leave it, or any of the methods I try.
I have downloaded the NvFlash package, which contains the program + the apx drivers. However, I am unable to install the drivers, as my laptop wont detect the phone.
I have removed the battery, held both volume buttons and plugged in the USB. Nothing happens.
The computer does not detect the device. Different ports, Different cables, even tried a different laptop. Nothing.
I have done as much research as I can, and all the tutorials have me confident that I know what to do AFTER the device is detected.
But I cannot find any resource, that advises me what to do if the device doesn't even get detected :crying::crying::crying:
Ive read link after link, that has led me back to links that I have already checked.
The only thing I have not done, is ask for help. This is why I am now here.
Please, may I have some assistance. I am at my wits end.
:crying:
:crying::crying::crying:
:crying:
So the only way the phone detects the device, is by putting the battery in - Then holding the power + volume down buttons till it reaches the second LG logo.
Which is where the device freezes. It doesnt pass this boot screen.
It detects it as Unknown Device. Not APX
Also, the phone can charge with the USB. The laptop doesnt detect it while charging.
So I got the phone to go into APX mode.
I did this by having the battery IN the phone.
Plugging the phone IN the laptop.
Holding the power + VOL down buttons. It reset the phone, then went to the second LG boot screen.
I then held the VOL buttons + Power button. Then the laptop detected the device, and APX showed up in Device Manager.
__________
After doing that, I opened NVFlash, and clicked "Flash CWM 5.0.2.0 Internal and Exernal ....."
The process ws successful and then the phone went to "S/W Upgrade Please wait."
I do not know WHO said the battery NEEDS to be out or WHY they said that, but those instructions are NOT ACCURATE.
The battery does not NEED to be taken out to do this process, I have now gotten my G2x into CWM using NVFLASH, WITH the battery IN the phone.
This little detail has caused heartache to many G2X owners, including myself.
I have the remedy, my friends!! Leave the battery IN the phone!! It WILL WORK!!
Someone please make this a sticky, OR add these instructions to the original NVFlash Method.
The public needs to know.
I hope my journey will help many others, peace and love to you all.

My friend, what I have posted are the steps I took to get my g2x working; That is what worked for me, fact.
I am now running weapon g2x 3.0_R1; flawlessly, might I add. Praise to the developers.
I'm sorry you felt your disapproving opinion was necessary.

This is what you said and is incorrect.
This has worked for me and countless others and a statement like this can throw off a new user. Occasionally, directions will need to be altered and most often when they do it is due to operator error resulting in straying away from said original directions.
You should not state that these directions are "not accurate" , but rather should state something along the lines of "I ran into problems and got it to work trying this way, just an idea if someone else gets stuck."
But the original directions work correctly.
But it's cool man, I've only been modding this phone for a year now. Your solid 3 days of ownership have far surpassed that.

Hi everyone,
I am having a weird problem.
I have a friend's G2X that received the OTA and is up and running with official Gingerbread. Problem is the phone at some random point blacks out and you cannot wake it up or power it up without removing the battery and reinserting it.
So I thought why not use NvFlasher and flash CWM and then load a custom rom, see if that fixes these issues...
Using Windows 7 64-bit, I removed battery, held Volume UP/DOWN pressed while plugging in the USB, but nothing happened, no notification from windows...
Tried it on 2 other computers, no luck....
My G2X is fine and it comes up as APX device when performing the steps above, but when using my friend's G2X, nothing happens...
Does anybody know what to do at this point?
I tried performing Factory Reset on the phone, couple of times, it seems it does not help since the problem is still happening...
My computer is fine, USB ports are fine, my phone is recognized, but his is not...
My 1st G2x used to shutoff by itself, but I didn't have any problems with nVflash....

I dont know if it makes a difference or not but try checking his usb debugging. that may be your problem. Settings-applications-development-usb debugging. Also be sure unknown sources is checked. I have had a few different roms, Faux AOSP, Trigger, and X-Boarders along with a couple others and I still have that deal every now and then when It wont wake up unless I pull the battery. Hope you dont but wanted you to know its not just your phone. I believe it is something in the hardware causing it.

That wouldn't make a difference, because the phone isn't loaded into a ROM when S/W update is running.

Tried all combinations, no go...
I am assuming the update messed something up. My next option is to get to a Windows XP machine and try the .kdz file and restore using that see if that helps...
Ok tried using the KDZ flasher and KDZ file on an XP machine and it went through with the update, or at least it seems like it did.
But the random blackout where I have to pull the battery and reinsert for the phone to come back on still happens and intermittent wifi problems as well...
Not sure if there is anything else I can do...
I will continue trying to get the phone into APX mode in order to use NvFlasher...
I have two G2x that do the Sleep Of Death - we now manually restart once a day, and that significantly reduced if not eliminated the problem. Or shall I say masked the problem...
My main problem on this G2x is that I cannot get it into the APX mode in order to use NvFlasher to flash CWM...
No matter what I do, what button combination or how long I wait the device never enters that mode...
Is there any other way to get the phone in APX mode?
After many, many tries, it finally worked!
I must have tried 50 times to plug it in to get it into APX mode.
Finally I removed the micro SD card and tried one more time and voila it worked.
I pressed volume UP first then Volume DOWN and kept holding them, plugged in and windows recognized it finally... whew!

Guessing it's more of a soft brick and recoverable. Where did you get CM10 and what version of cwm? Unlocked bootloader?

You'll probably have to go into download mode, and odin back to stock.
Yeah it's probably a soft brick, if you can get into odin (power + home + vol UP) you should be good to flash back a stock w/root and be back up and running.
I just did this when I had to flash back from a bad download of the synergy nightly....or possibly it's a problem with the nightly, a good lesson to actually check the md5 on a download...
how will i know when in download mode if screen is black..it was CM10 that showed up on rom manager at one point CM10 konstakang JELLYO
If you pit it no dl mode while Odin is open and phone plugged in ...it should show up in the "com port area of Odin. I think even if you can't see it on the screen. It worked with my Charge. Give it a shot

Mike you have any ideas for me to try?
I've had similar issue in the past if you have sound when plugged in its probably just a display issue you will have to try to put it into download mode blind and flash stock unfortunately will have to set up from scratch but should do the trick

Power + home + volume up to get into download mode. It should show something on the screen if not try what was said above and put it in d/l mode with Odin opened and the phone plugged in.
I don't want to start some heated debated but I don't see the difference in "self bricked" and "self dropped into a toilet" when it comes to insurance. Now warranty that's a different story.
I have to disagree and agree with the guy who says these people are xxxxbags. I wouldn't go so far as to call people who want a working phone as a "xxxxbag" a bit irresponsible yes, but to go so far as calling them xxxxbags I think is a bit harsh.
On the other side of the argument are the people who act as if Verizon or Samsung are obligated to replace a bricked phone. You don't throw your phone around like a football then expect it to be replaced for free. People who flash custom roms, etc (including myself) are fully aware of the risks they are taking by doing so and should take the responsibility to try and fix it themselves. If they can't figure out how to fix it with the help of all the brilliant minds on XDA, Verizon won't have too much luck either.

It's home+voldwn+power then vol up to continue.
And one is and accident and one is self inflicted. If you don't see the difference I can't help you:victory:
Nothing but a flame war here
It is against XDA rules to discuss ways to fraud the carrier into warranty replacement

I am not rooted on this phone I am on stock 100% I have done nothing with this phone since purchased.. I did not try to install anything on this phone that could have caused this. But yesterday it just started on this bootloop. The screen just shows the T-mobile sidekick 4g logo then to black and over and over .... I have pulled the battery put it back in and it immediately bootloops. I don't even have to power on . It even bootloops with the charger plugged in the battery symbol bootloops. I tried to put the device into bootloader (pwr vol up/dwn) to do a factory reset. but the bootloader screen just flashes on for a second and then it goes right back into the bootloop.
It appears as if this is bricked but how is that possible on a stock device? I called t-mobile and they could not help. All they wanted to do is sell me a new phone.

@karose465 How old is the phone? If less than a year (doubtful), it should still be under warranty. Or you may be eligible for upgrade pricing: Fore example, "Customers with a Classic plan (two-year contract) are eligible for our lowest upgrade price on a new phone when at least 22 months have passed since their last phone upgrade. A new two-year contract is required to take advantage of best upgrade pricing. Of course, you can always upgrade a phone at any time, regardless of how many months have passed since your contract began."
For more info on Heimdall, just Google Heimdall Android.
Anyone with a sidekick contract ends earliest next march..

Try Odin...choose repartition and you're golden. This is someone that has bricked his phone many, many times. Odin will give you the original stock Froyo.

I think for him and myself, the biggest problem is being unable to get the phone to stay in download mode. For some reason, the battery won't charge and the phone itself continously turns off and on when plugged in. So the charge isn't holding, therefore nothing will stay on/open.
Im having the same problem. I have searched everywere and cannot find an answer that will fix it. If anyone can please help us fix this issue.

my Sidekick 4G is very old and just now went into bootloop... i googled the word and came across this forum.
As quoted above by previous poster that a power button repair was needed... I figured that I had nothing to lose, it being so old, I smashed the crap out of the Sidekick 4G on its power button. Lo and Behold, it booted into the system successfully.
SO... if no one has any qualms about smashing the crap out of their power button... give it a shot. It worked for me.

Mines stuck in a boot loop too.
I don't know if my Sidekicks problem is related to this or not. I rooted it and flashed it over to Glorious Overdose v5 on May 22nd this year and it's been running great. At least it was until last Friday, Sep 13. I was having trouble connecting to the WiFi at my house so I rebooted the phone. When it started to come back up a female voice started saying, "VooDoo lagfix has been disabled." "Converting /data and /system partitions." "Conversion time estimated 10 minutes."
I let it do it's thing and that's all it's been doing all weekend. I can get into recovery mode, I've tried restoring the phone from my backup with no success. I've even tried running through the process of setting up GOv5 again and it says it's successful, but the phone never boots up. It just stays in the same blasted bootloop and saying the same things over and over again about VooDoo. I've checked the VooDoo logs and there is an error file for the 13th and the logs following say "conversion." Can someone point me in the right direction as to what I can do to get my phone working again? Everything I've tried to research so far hasn't worked.
v5 hold both volume button, the track button and power button. Should put you into recovery mode. If not, you will have to put phone into download mode. You do this by taking out battery, then pluging into computer. When you reinsert battery hold volume down and power, if I remember correctly, and your download screen should come up. From your cp manually unroot it. Then it should be fixed, and just reroot it. I hope this was helpful

Hey, MythEdge. I'm not sure if you get notifications here or anything, but I registered to this site specifically to thank you; my phone ( Sidekick 4G, like OP ) bricked, and I smashed it against the table a few times ( you know, delicately... ) and it resurrected.
So thank you, sir; you were precisely correct. It worked on both of my phones, which had the exact same problem.
Just, wow. Thank you.

And almost a year later I log in and see this. Your most welcome. I haven't been working on phones for awhile but if I remember right, some models can be powered on by plugging the phone into a power source and when the phone vibrates or has a sign of life unplugging the unit. Some cables don't work and sometimes doing this via a computer can power up a device. Other than that, the other more dangerous way is to short out the pins on the bottom of the unit. I don't remember the pins but you can google a charge port diagram to help. I don't recommend doing this unless you have absolutely no other choice. Incidentally, this is why a phone will power itself on when a battery is put in and no other button is touched. The port is wet and corrosion has caused a link on the power pin and believe its pin 3. A simple cleaning with 90%+ rubbing alcohol solution will fix if cleaned quick enough.
Hey guys. I'd really appreciate your help. So this is how the story goes. Im pretty well versed in flashing ROMS. I flashed the CM10 Rom, don't remember the exact name, but it's the one where u can download a bunch of themes. Anyway the wifi kept coming on and off so I decided to try another ROM. I went into recovery mode and flashed the MIUI vs OTTER ROM, I think thats the name, I'm pretty sure . Just as the flashing finishes the phone turns off and BAM!! The problems start so basically phone wont come on now. I don't get the vibration before it starts, so I figured Id root back to stock and start all over...(Odin..PIT etc.) So this is what happens. The computer makes the noise that indicates something's been plugged in and then immediately it makes the same noise as if somethings been unplugged (phone is still plugged in though) Screen is completely blank still and a message comes up (ON PC) to install new software on ( the phone). The software or Device that registers as the phone in device manager is Qualcomm CDMA technologies MSM. Any help would be appreciated. And yes I did the whole wipe factory/dalvik etc. right before flashing the MIUI ROM. The computer says I need to flash drive F to be able to use it (which I figure is the phone, and flashing would erase everything right?) but as I try to do that it denies me permission because th phone is apparently coming in and out, or on and off.
Have you tried a jig? Do a quick Google search "Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G Jig" . It'll get you into download mode and allow you to flash through Odin back to stock, I believe.

I've tried everything including:
Taking battery out for extended periods.
Trying to hold volume up button and power/vice versa with both and volume down, whilst running odin to see if Added" pops up on odin so that I can root to stock and start over."
Every time i plug the phone into PC you hear the plug and unplu sounds as if the phone is continuesly turning off and on but nothing on the screen. Im not even getting the vibration.
I had a similar issue on my phone recently. It was incredibly frustrating so I just left it on the charger. When I came back 30 minutes later, it was on and charging.

Either you can buy one or make it yourself, but I highly recommend you buy one.

I've tried everything including:
Taking battery out for extended periods.
Trying to hold volume up button and power/vice versa with both and volume down, whilst running odin to see if Added" pops up on odin so that I can root to stock and start over."

I think it is hard bricked.
Did you try download mode? I thought mine was hard-bricked, but I was able to go into download mode.
Wow, same thing here!

I have almost the EXACT same problem. BUT, I do have a jig that I know that works...and it doesn't bring me to Download Mode. :crying:
No button combos work...download or recovery, I don't even know if it is charging...had it on the charger for about 30 mins so far.
(It says exactly:
You need to format the disk in drive G: before you can use it.
Do you want to format it?
<Format disk> <Cancel>
I of course press cancel
With a battery or without a battery, when I connect to the computer it installs the drivers as stated above but it continues to ask if I want to format it. If I leave it plugged up, the popup continues almost endlessly. I've not yet press FORMAT, as I would think that could make it worse than it is.
Has anyone seen this type of problem?
*EDIT: I'm sending it out on Monday to get it JTAGed, too expense and complex to even think about trying to get a box and attempting the fix myself.
I was basically told that the Boot portion (whatever it's exactly called) needs to be re-written and then probably just flash stock firmware on it.
Just wanted to leave this here to help others search and find this info...just in case they attempt to try to do more than they should and really mess their phone up even more.
It's the holidays which means helping to fix others' devices.
I've got a family member's TF300T that gets to the ASUS boot screen but just spins forever. The bootloader hasn't been unlocked and I think it's on JB but I don't have any way to tell which version of the stock ROM it is. I've spent the last hour reading through posts on multiple forums but haven't found anything that works.
I've tried accessing recovery by holding vol down but no luck. It just hits that boot screen and spins. I've installed the standalone drivers as well as the ASUS Sync utility but I can't get adb to see the device. I know the keyboard dock has some problems and doesn't work 100%, but I think the USB port is okay because the owner uses a mouse on it. There's an amber light next to the charging port that is blinking. I'm not really familiar with this device so I tried connecting my Win 10 machine (a T100 coincidentally) with a regular microUSB to that and with the charging cable but neither worked.
Is there something I might be missing or anything else I should be trying with this device?

You said you held vol down. Hold vol down and power button together from off state. Maybe that's what your doing though. That should take you to boot loader.

Yeah, sorry, that is what I meant. No luck getting into the bootloader.

There's a thread about 3 down from yours, see if that helps. Appears the issue is more common than I thought. It's by mgs333

I've read that one and a dozen others. Unfortunately unlike just about everyone else who has had it get stuck, I can't get access to anything that'll let me wipe, flash, or really do anything so I'm sort of dead in the water until I can.
I'm familiar enough with Android that I'm pretty confident in getting it working when I do, but until then I'm a bit lost.

I've never tried, but look up nvflash. It may help as your stock. Sorry but I'm no more help, someone else may answer, but bit slow around here these days lol.

Thanks. I'll look into it some more.
I glanced over it briefly in my earlier research but it seemed like it might not work in my situation.
I got it. This thing has been used in a pretty dusty work environment and I cleaned it up. I think the volume down button was being prevented from working. After cleaning I got right into the bootloader and wiped it. After that it started right up.
rileysmith how you do it?
