Hello, I am new to the forum, so I apologize if this seems like a ridiculous thread.
A friend of mine at work got a new phone, so he gave me his Verizon Razr.
Is there any way for me to Root, or unlock this phone and be able to use another carrier's Micro Sim, and the sooner it can be activated the better.
Thanks in advance.
Honestly just search Google, I'm sure you will find more than a enough information.
Droid RAZR HD (current)
LG Optimus One P-504 (For Sale)

Out of interest of upgrading on the cheap, would it be possible to use a rooted motorola droid on a tmobile g1 data plan? Google didn't really help. Mostly info about wal mart selling the g1 (lul?).
Friend is looking to sell his droid, and if I can switch with little or no issues from my provider, I'd be a happy guy.
Thanks for your info. Keep your negativity to yourself, please.
(same goes for switching to an N1...)
I'm in the UK so this not first hand.
The Droid is on Verizon right? (The Euro GSM version is the Milestone) and Verizon uses CDMA?
T-Mo in the US uses GSM? That would mean the Droid doesn't have the hardware to ever run on T-mo nor AT&T regardless of software
Just noticed the droid doesn't have a sim card slot? So would an N1 be an option, or should I just suck it up and buy a new phone?

Make sure whoever buys it for you in the States, activates it and asks Verizon to unlock it! You may have serious trouble unlocking it otherwise! Please review the threads here asap.
Hopefully you got it from retail Verizon store and not from Best Buy or something. If you already got the phone, see if unlock code you can purchase online works. PM me if you want to know sources known to provide working (if you are lucky of course) unlock codes. Depends on your case, online unlock code may or may not work. We do not know yet what is exactly the issue with unlocking, all we know is phones purchased from Best Buy unactivated do not accept unlock codes (If somebody can prove me wrong - please chime in!!). So far confirmed is unlocking works for the very first batch of phones (sold before non-Verizon stores picked up the phone) and for phones which were activated abd used on Verizon network.
Ok so I decided on buying a moto g and while googling prices i spotted this.
the verizon prepaid moto g is 68.99 while the unlocked moto g is 199.99.
why is it so low?also is there a way to make the verizion prepaid phone accept a tmobile sim card?
I feel like these are stupid questions but hey i wanna learn
The XT1028 Moto G can ONLY be used with Verizon prepaid, no SIM card, 3G only..this model was/is on sale for around $50 now, its a gimmick to lure ones in to purchase a device, that MUST be used on Verizon only..
TIP..Purchase the new Moto G 4G LTE..it can be used almost any carrier..

I currently have a contract plan with Verizon Wireless and for now plan to stick with it. I made the mistake of buying a Moto G on craigslist that is meant to only be for the prepaid verizon plan. I wanted to unlock this phone for the purpose of installing cyanogenmod 11 on it but see now sadly that Motorola won't unlock the prepaid verizon Moto G phones (xt1028). However I saw on other threads here that this phone can allegedly be unlocked for $45 from an alternative source, which I'm willing to do if it makes sense for my situation.

I also noticed confusion about whether or not I can run CM11 properly on this particular phone. I first saw here that it apparently does work:
http://www.androidheadlines.com/2014/01/gsm-verizon-moto-g-gets-unofficial-cyanogenmod-11-rom.html
But I haven't seen the xt1028 listed as a supported phone on any place to download CM11. So does it work? Does it basically work but have bugs?
Other major question is, can I unlock this prepaid verizon phone I have, install CM11 on it, and then successfully use it with my Verizon contract plan?
Would appreciate any thoughts. If I can actually do everything I want to do then I have no problem paying for the unlock code.
Thanks!
i don't think it'll unlock your phone.. try waiting for a while untill devs figure something out..

Look at the list of available Verizon devices, get their model numbers and then search to see which of those model numbers are rootable.
If you can use any unlocked device then just search for rootable devices that Verizon will allow in their BYOP program, if they allow unlocked devices then take your pick of any of rootable devices they allow on their network. You can even choose a device that is not only rootable but has custom ROMs available also.
