I have just got the phone and have been playing with it for the last couple of days. I really am impressed with aside from one feature.
When typing out text messages with the phone horizontal (so i can use both thumbs) using the Samsung QWERTY input, the words don;t auto correct if I make a small mistake. I am so so so sure that when I tested the phone in store the women managed to turn it on so that as long as I got the words roughly right, the phone would auto correct them for me!
Does anyone know how I turn this feature on? I do not want it via SWYPE or the T9 auto predict word feature, just the standard QWERTY keyboard.
I would be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction! Cheers guys
Anyone at all guys, it is the one thing preventing me from calling it a perfect phone!

Hi,
I use SlideIt all the time, and it can sometimes be awkward to get going when I load up a new ROM.
I have found that it takes a few install/uninstall/install/uninstall/install before it will go right through the load-up menus.
Just persevere.
Hi,
Sadly I did that 5-7 times, but still swiftkey won't work :'(

Hi,
Not sure about swiftkey,as I have never used it.
Try SlideIt.
I am sure there is a free version to test.
I change between swiftkey x and thumboard.
After enabling your keyboards from the settings and confirmed that they are checked. Go to a browser bar to type something and before typing, long press about 3 seconds in the area. Another window should come up labled "input method". Selecting that will bring up a window with all your selected keyboards. Select the one you want and you're good to go.

Thanks, but I rather like swiftkey, it looks better
I really hate what Google have done to the keyboard in Lollipop. The predictions have been changed for the current word to show suggestions that aren't what you are trying to type, (if you are typing accurately.)
On the face of it, this seems to be a logical decision. In practice though, your eyes have to keep going upto your message to check what you have just typed is correct. You then have to go all the way down to the space bar to get the next word prediction. :silly:
Under the old system, if you were typing accurately, you would just press the middle button without your eyes ever having to go up and find where you are typing. This would then prompt the next word prediction without ever having to look upto the message or down to press the spacebar.
Is there any way to get the Kit Kat keyboard into Lollipop. (Its a deal breaker for me and could influence the Moto X 2014 vs Nexus 6 decision!)
See attached Kit Kat and Lollipop. In the example, I'm trying to type, "The."
I just tried your scenario and it seems to be working fine on Lollipop.
As soon as I type 'T', the Google keyboard suggests the word 'The'. If I tap on that suggestion it then suggests the next predicted word.
If I type 'Th', it still suggests 'The' as the predicted word, but it also highlights or bolds the suggested word, indicating that I can hit the space bar to accept the suggested word 'The'.
If I go ahead and type the whole word 'The' without selecting the suggested word after either of the first two times it suggested it, it assumes I didn't want the word 'The' after all and suggests a different word.
Is that not the behavior you're seeing?

It is also what I see in Lollipop. Whilst it seems logical, when you are swiping, you only tend to check the word when you have finished a swipe. In KK, this mean't always going to the suggestion bar and confirming which also mean't insert space and then mean't next word please. Your eyes need almost no movement.
In lollipop however, when you have finished the swipe, your eyes have to go all the way upto the text, find where you typed and check it is what you wanted, then go all the way down to the spacebar and press it to ask for the next word suggestion.
It just means you can swipe so much faster on KK than you can on LP as your eyes are having to work alot less. :crying:
For me, the L version seems to be better at determining what I'm trying to swipe without me having to check it. I usually go ahead and swipe out the 2-3 sentences I want in my text/reply/post/whatever and then go back and verify it says what I wanted to say. And I've found it has been more accurate on L than it was on KK. Any incorrect words I see at that point I click on and the suggested replacement is usually what I wanted. If I verified each word as I swiped it would definitely be slower.
In other words, I rarely select the suggested words. I just swipe out what I want to say without looking up and then go back and verify before sending. And it's typically pretty accurate.
Is anyone seeing really bad lag while typing? Maybe I just type too fast but after I think I'm done with a word I look at the screen and it's still spelling it. I have vibrate on key press on, popup on keypress on and the text correction on.

I've had no problems with keyboard lag and I'm using 5 on the Nexus 7 2013, (Which is a much slower device.)
IDK about Swype type input but tapping is worse with white on white keys. I fixed it by switching to the older theme. I realized my eyes play a part in my accuracy apparently because muscle memory isn't enough. It's weird.

It's good that Google gave you the choice to switch back to the old keyboard look. I just wish Google would give me the option to switch back to the kit kat swipe functionality. I can't buy a nexus 6 until they fix this!

The keyboard still sucks in 5.0.2
I don't think 5.1 is out yet?
It's out but not for my note3... Only the LG keyboard is as fast and comfortable as this for me. A part the autocorrection problem, they also removed the option to remove the "change language button" it wastes space for nothing... Bah..
For example now I'm typing on the forum and I have to watch the super small text in the forum box ... I'm a lot slower than before that was in the center of the keyboard, and ofc I make more mistakes... Silly choice by google's engineers

Exactly the problem I have. If Google don't sort it out in 5.1 I'm staying on kit kat for sure. I get what Google were trying to achieve but they need the option to do both kk and lollipop prediction methods.
Personally I hate it. I have had to type words like "complaint" dozens of times over even though my swiping technique hasn't changed because the software thinks I'm trying to type "composition". Now, mind you, I swipe over to the A and there is no A in "composition".
Any news from android 5.1?

Would be nice if someone could hack the Google keyboard
Just an update for people having the same issue as me in Lollipop.
On the Play store, there is an app called Jellybean Keyboard 4.3. :highfive:
This app pretty much gets around my issue with the Google Keyboard and has worked fine for the last week I've been testing it with only a few niggles:-
- Emotions requires a separate download.
- When the app updated a few days ago, it forgot what it had previously learned.
I still dont understand why Google Keyboard cant contain a tick box in the settings entitled, "Include typed word in suggestion box in Lollipop." :crying:
Oh dear god. I tried Lollipop once on my N4 - it was awful. Now I plan to switch to 5.1 and see how it is one more time (and check if there is better battery life) but that keyboard abomination still scares me and its sad to know that it still persists...
However I'll try to live with that - at least for one day - cuz I wanna try EuphoriaOS tommorow Maybe I'll try to install Google Keyboard from 4.4.4... Somehow.
Just go for the jellybean keyboard as above.
Hi all,
So, I'm having a bizarre issue with Samsung Keyboard on my Verizon Galaxy S7. I use the auto correct (auto replace) feature, and it normally does a very good job of catching typos and whatnot. But, it does something really strange when I end a sentence with an exclamation point (!) or question mark (?).
It replaces the entire word before this mark with something totally unrelated. Like for example, if I type "Yeah!", I hit the space bar, and it gets replaced with something like "The!", or "I!". My girlfriend has the same issue on her Galaxy S7. We never had this issue on our previous Samsung phones. This seems to only happen with Samsung Keyboard. But, I would like it if I didn't have to switch keyboards, or turn off Auto correct. Any ideas?
Here's what I've tried so far:
Clear cache and data on Samsung Keyboard
Disable Sync on Samsung Account
Disable various keyboard features, like Auto spacing and Auto punctuate
Factory reset
Thanks in advance!
OMG! Thank God someone else is experiencing this too because I thought I was going crazy LOL. I've been sharing the below post everywhere I can -- I sure hope Samsung fixes it soon because it's very irritating.
I have the s7 and I HATE the autocorrect. I use exclamation points a lot and every time you end a sentence with one it autocorrects the final word in the sentence to something completely random. For example, I typed "I don't understand how!" and it autocorrected how to "why." I typed "Why, does this phone?" and it autocorrected phone to "mean." I typed "Those poor kids are probably starving" and it autocorrect starving to "the." It's the most frustrating thing ever and happens every time I type a text message. I've never wanted to chuck a phone across the room more than when I'm texting on the S7. I've contacted Samsung support, twice, and they pretty much told me I was crazy. So, I figure I'll find every review post on the S7 and post about my issue to see if someone somewhere in the Samsung world can release a software fix for this stupid phone.
Yeah this drives me crazy as well. It's very inaccurate. Maybe a new keyboard like swift key? With the stock one you are better off just tapping

Yes!! I'm so glad too that I'm not the only one experiencing this. I have been searching like crazy, and haven't found this issue listed anywhere.
So sounds like the only fix at this point is a custom keyboard. I hope they fix this soon. Thanks for the replies!
Ok, I have an update. I went into Settings > Language and Input > Samsung Keyboard > Add input languages. There was an "Update" button next to "English (US)". I downloaded this update. Since then, the problem seems to have diminished somewhat. I still see it, but it's kinda 50/50 now.
If somebody else wants to try this, let me know what kind of results you get. Thanks!
I managed to correct the problem! Under Settings > Language > Samsung Keyboard > Add Input Languages > More > Check for updates!!! So relieved!
Issues with Autocorrect on Samsung Keyboard? Completely wrong word replacement
Just use the Kii keyboard app. Free and does what you want.
I fixed it! I went to the Samsung keyboard in settings and changed the Keyboard Swipe to None. Boom! Instantly fixed!
i always loved the samsung keyboard but after the nougat update i move to gboard and think ill stay here for a while because i think the autocorrection works far better and love that you can have multiple languages at the same time rather then to switch between each one of the sammy.
I thought it was only me.... I used to save Roman Urdu words saved in my dictionary and it automatically used to replace the correct words as I zipped along.. no longer working right for me and I am so frustrated by it.. software update screwed my fav keyboard

i get the same issues when i text on my Samsung s7 phone but mine does it anywhere in my text not necessarily at the end, im thinking about spending muy money on iphone instead cause this is driving me nuts! get tired of having tip go back and fix words on a constant basis or re-text because person reading it can't understand what i said.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Predictive Text and Auto Replace
I was having the same problem (a word being suggested that was totally off from what was being typed and that wacky word replacing the correct word). The fix was keeping the predictive text on but turning the auto replace off. For my phone/software I got to these by:
1. Settings
2. General Management
3. Language And Time - Language and Input
4. Keyboards - Virtual Keyboard
5. Samsung Keyboard
6. Smart Typing - Predictive Text
The Predictive Text should be on, but the Auto Replace should be off
With the settings as described, the words I use a lot while texting (for instance "thanks" and "ok") show up under where I'm typing the text and I can tap them to save time, but the whole deal where some wacky word comes up and then replaces the word you wanted unless you hit the arrow goes away. I hope this is helpful.
it's 2018 and im still having this issue. I'll type in love and 100% of the time it switches to live. I mean, I use live too so i don't want to delete it. This issue makes me take atleast twice as long to type one message. I had it turned off for a long time and that was my solution, but if they have a feature, I want to ****ing use it. I NEVER had this issue on my previous Samsungs and i've only ever had Samsung "smart" phones.
Hello,
for some time I have a weird bug or so? When I see a text field (a field where user can write on via keyboard) I cannot make GBoard open up.
I click on the field but the keyboard won't popup. I press the field by my finger and it shows up. How to make it to open via spen as well?
I have S22U UI 5.1

Every time you press the text field? For me as well but once the keyboard goes down (disappears) I cannot make it popup again - I need to use my finder on a text field.
I would guess it is related to spen features\bugs but resetting it didn't help though.
It started after I did something in options I think.

I though that as well - just installed swiftkey and the problem is the same - I need to use a finger to make it popup.
OK a small update - I think I got it.
Seems that Samsung keyboard can corrupt that function if handwriting is enabled/disabled. I needed to open/disable it for a few times in a row, then reset samsung keyboard settings. Now Gboard reacts to spen touches again - hopefully it will stays so and my happiness will not fall down.
Not gonna do that, but glad to know it's poor software and not incompetence, anyone tried to ask bixby to "set a 10 minute timer" only to be asked - "sure...how long should I set it for?" Modern technology

Thanks for the tip. I don't use Samsung Keyboard, so doing this if I start noticing issues won't hurt or cause me to lose anything.
