Google Maps navigation issue - General Questions and Answers

Hi all, wondering if you can help with issue I have with Google maps/back. It always would give me detailed voice prompts during navigation and would
speak out street names and keep me updated during the trip. Now, all that is gone. I still get the voice but it is very basic. Won't say much actually, just turn left or turn right. What happened to Google maps/back or this or is it my skyrocket that is having the issue?

[Q] Voice search accuracy

Is anyone else having issues with the accuracy of spoken word in Voice Search? For example, I say "navigate to the nearest hospital" and it thinks I'm saying "kkkk new york" This feature worked perfectly on my EVO. Anyone else noticing this or am I missing something?
Thanks!
All good here bro?

Bummer. I was hoping everyone would jump in and say something along the lines of "yeah it sucks BIG TIME" lol
K, I'll have to mess with it some more.
Try to adjust the voice search settings. Take off all the restrictions and it should work better.

Aaah! That's a good idea! Will give it a shot. Why didn't I think of that? Probably cause I was overthinking it. You get a Thanks button press
I'm having the same exact problem with all of the k's! Updating hasn't fixed it, clearing the data hasn't fixed it... I've tried using voice on multiple applications and I keep getting that same problem. It'll do a bunch of k's and then just part of what I actually said. I don't know if it's a microphone problem?

Google Now is creepy. And awesome. And creepy. And awesome.

Friend: Okay, the address is XXYY on Smith St.
Me: Cool, thanks. *enters address into Google on his desktop*
Google Now (on phone): Hey! I noticed you Googled for an address on a completely different device. Would you like directions there?
Me: Uh...yeah, actually. How did you know...?
Google Now: Shhh. It doesn't matter.
Me: But...
Google Now: Shhh. It's okay. I'm your best friend, right?
Me: I...uh...
Google Now: I know everything about you, Jason. I'm your best friend, right?
Me: ...let's go with "yes"
Google Now: That's a good boy. So, how about those directions?
My wife's comment about Google Now was classic:
"it's just as bad at understanding me as Siri!"
Lol that's cool.

The Google is Mother, the Google is Father.
Yeah it's slightly creepy. Sometimes when I go out, and on my way to my car I'll check the notifications and there will be one from google now sitting there telling me XX minutes till Home. How in the world does it know I want to go home. Odd thing is that it's not always there.
Sample notification from the next release of Google Now:
Hey, remember that thing your mom emailed you about three weeks ago? Its tomorrow (guess who forgot to set a reminder). And your sister left you a voicemail last week - you're bringing cookies. I know you forgot because you haven't searched for recipes. Here is a recipe for some delicious pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, a shopping list, and click here to navigate to the nearest Walmart.

I think the "time/distance until home" thing just pops up when you're out and about. Sometimes it shows up, and sometimes it doesn't, but either way it seems to be random.

not surprising...how can google now and siri understand women if the engineers writing their code can't?

Try this:
Google Now -> Settings -> Google Now -> Traffic -> "After searching Google" should be checked.
If that doesn't work:
Google Now -> Settings -> Privacy & accounts -> "Show recent searches" should be checked

Both were checked =/. When I clicked on the search bar (not the microphone) all it showed was the cards, no recent searches.
I just checked my web history and none of my computer searches were in there. It's weird because I use Chrome and and am signed into Google. I wonder if I need to be signed in to the Google website also (like gmail.com)?

Hmm, not sure, though it wouldn't surprise me if web history is based on your login to Google services rather than your login in Chrome - that would allow the service to work regardless of the browser you're using.

Google Now Incorrect Location

Hey everyone, hope someone can help.
I love Google now, and use it every day. But I've been getting an annoying issue constantly.
I'm getting commute cards coming up all the time saying I'm 39 minutes away, 45 minutes away etc... from my home location. I did some closer looking and noticed that its not getting my correct location. Google Now (and Google maps) seems to think I'm elsewhere, when I'm actually at home. I also noticed that when launching Google maps, it shows the wrong location on boot, then fixes to my GPS location.
I'm annoyed by this because it use to work perfect a couple weeks back, and that I use this on a daily basis for bus route times. I can't use it now because its giving me bus routes and times from the location Google thinks I'm at.
Here's some information about my phone:
- Liquid ROM
- Latest Google Search from Play Store
- Wi-Fi off, GPS on, Data on.
Hope someone can help me out.

I use GPS Test https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest
(Actually I bought the Plus version for $3 because I use it a lot.)
Also, I found that when roaming, it doesn't seem to pick up location from cell networks. (I have data roaming disabled.)

It has the options to Clear and/or Update AGPS too.
Edit: ..and it looks nicer, but that's a matter of opinion/taste..

Any other helpful tips?

It is enabled.
After doing some research, many people are saying that using WiFi will help out pinning my location.
So for my next test, im turning on WiFi, and disabling background location reporting. I found that background location reporting didn't do anything different to my Google Now data, and was a big battery drainer, making Google maps the top app draining my battery even though it wasn't being used.

Agreed....this is a swift kick in the pants for me. I just got a bunch of family members to start using Latitude and now this. Even if I switched to G+ and got them to, I still have to set it all up from scratch. You can't import your friends from one to the other.
I've really been trying to NOT use Google + but, being a heavy user of Google Talk to chat, Google Voice for SMS, and Google Latitude for location sharing it seems I will have no choice soon.
I downloaded it this morning. I like it. I think the features are nice and its a bit quicker. Seems much more modern to me then the older version. I don't use offline maps, so it doesn't bother me too much.
I think also if you type in "OK Maps" it will save maps for offline.

You can get the new version there and then update it with the Play Store.
If you previously had Location Reporting off, this update to Google Maps turns it back on automatically.

It looks just like the iOS version that's been out for months now, as for functionality... It's better than the iOS version.
I think it's terrible, where have all the features gone? It all seems based around Google+ and social stuff which I don't use... where are my maps? I have a ton of maps that I update regularly on my pc that I use on my devices and now they are all useless.
This is a big step back

Does anybody know if it's possible to map the zoom function to the volume keys since they got rid of the zoom buttons on the screen? It's kind of hard to zoom out with one hand now.

The indicator for if Hotword detection is currently listening or not is the microphone symbol in the search bar. If it becomes hollowed out, such as during speaker music playback then it is not listening.
