Hey guys,
Just wanted to let you know that Brotherhood of Violence by Realtech VR is optimized for the Xperia Play gamepad. You need to check (tick) the 'Joystick' parameter in the Options menu and then it's game on. The button icons etc even come up in the first level tutorial.
Not played it much yet but it has a retro 'Streets of Rage' flavour and is quite cinematic with some console grade graphics to ice it off . The in-game voice-over will have you cracking up with laughter. I think it is intentionally ridiculous as the subtitles (which appear to be compulsory) make more sense.
Character customization appears to be a huge part of the game, though I haven't delved into that yet. Playing with mainstay character Lamar makes the game feel like your playing a crossover of Black Dynamite meets Warriors! Anyhoo, I've said too much! Let me know what you think

Wow, I was just about to buy this on my Microsoft Surface Pro! Think I might just be buying both versions
Thanks for the heads up OP!

Great find man. There are no problems with lags or force closes in this game right? Was looking for a good fighting game on Android.
No lags that I can find yet. But that being said my phone is overclocked and I haven't tested it at factory MHz level.
The voice overs had me giggling too. I really don't think it was intentional either, just sounds like they don't speak english really well. I like Realtech VR, they always include us Xperia Play users.

Yes, it is, for the XPlay. If you think the present price point is too costly, wait until it goes on sale again.

Hi everybody!
Myself and a friend have recently launched a new game onto the Android Market called Turtle Slider! It was demoed at Glastonbury Festival in the UK a month before release. Since its release (August 4th), we have had nearly 2000 downloads and a 4 and 1/2 star rating.
You must slide your turtle across increasingly difficult levels, while avoiding traps such as pits, bats and fireballs! Essentially a puzzle game with action elements, a par system was added in version 1.2.1 that gives the player a gold trophy if they complete the level in the set par.
We are students studying Computer Game Design in the UK and we are just aiming to make a fun, free game.
The latest update has been added today and includes:
12 NEW levels!
Twitter and Facebook links
Minor bug fixing
Any support would be greatly appreciated, we aim to constantly update the game and our next big feature will be sound.
Download Turtle Slider for FREE by searching turtle slider in the app market.
Join us on Facebook at: facebook.com/turtleslider.android
Join us on Twitter at: twitter.com/#!/TurtleSlider
Thanks for reading guys, any support would mean a lot to us, this is our baby and we aim to improve it over the coming months to be the best game it can possibly be! If you have any suggestions or have noticed any errors please contact us.
Thanks again,
Luke & Gustavo
Cool concept.. miss those old gameboy era games
Thanks Consegregate! Funnily enough at the moment we are deciding if we should have chip tune sounds and music or modern quality sounds!
Well done m8, needs sound thou
Funnily enough, sound is going to be added this week

You can't go wrong with chiptune.
I agree with BlackOtaku, chiptune sounds !!
I think we are now going to have a mixture, the sound effects will be chiptune and the music will be high quality.
Good start on this game!
The menu is definitely a neat way to make something quick!
I tried chiptunes, can't stand the interface!
We have decided on chiptunes for sound effects and good quality music for the soundtrack. We are adding all the sounds in tonight! Make sure you update your game version!
Downloaded the new version, and I got say im proud of the music is very nice!!
I love the level with the pinball bumpers and the sound it makes when the turtle is bouncing around at high speed!!
Thank you darkgisba, we are very happy with the music and sound, we hope others will like it as much as you!
We were a little unsure if the 8 bit sound effects would sound strange with normal music but I think it might just have worked
Worked on the code, and its more stable now!
Halloween Map Pack!
Hello everyone!
To celebrate Halloween we are releasing an extra 12 levels and a number of graphical updates! Please support us and try out the latest version and any feedback would be greatly appreciated. The latest update is going up tonight so it should be available to everyone by tomorrow morning.
Thanks for your support everybody!
Luke and Gustavo
The new levels are now out and ready to play, try them and tell us what you think of the new music and levels !
What are the best scrolling shooters available that work with the XPlay controls? I've given R-Type a go and was wondering what others recommend
AirAttack HD Make sure it's the Xperia PLAY version!
There's also a game called Overkill. It's not specifically Xperia PLAY Optimized, but it works perfectly with the D-pad and X to shoot.
scrolling shooters? oh there are dozens but here are my favourites(long time STG fan.-)
for some shooting goodness fire up FPSE Emulator and get the following PS One Games:
-Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus(Salamander 1+Lifeforce AND Salamander 2 included,Salamander 2 is just great!)
-Gradius Deluxe Pack(Gradius 1+2,classic but i personally prefer Salamander)
-Gradius Gaiden(best of all Gradius imho, japan release only, nice graphics, much more accesible than classic Gradius)
-Parodius Deluxe Pack(Parodius 1+2,classic)
-Sexy Parodius(completely whack+hillarious..)
-R-Type Delta(best ps one shooter,period)
-R-Types(R-Type 1+2)
-G-Darius(some twisted shooting action with different paths, long bossbattles and psychedelic style graphics thrown in)
-Einhänder(the only Squaresoft Shooter,still great)
-Thunder Force Verfect System(great!)
on Genesis i highly recommend Contra:Hard Corps(they should have named it Contra:Hard Core, its really a challenge, its contra on speed) and Gunstar Heroes, intense shooting action, also the Thunder Force Series,on SNES Axelay is great also the SNES Contra
Neo Geo:Last Resort(great R-Type like Style,very challenging),Aero Fighters(Sonic Wings),Pulstar,Viewpoint(isometric unique style but frustrating),Shock Troopers(really really great one!),Metal Slug 1-5,Ninja Commando
Tiger Arcade(CPS2):Mars Matrix,Giga Wing,Progear no Arashi,Ecofighters,1944 The Loop Master
and finally if you want to see something very intense and weird or just for the fun:
fire up an NES emulator and get the game RECCA:Summer Carnival 92.its an japanese game especially made back in 1992 for a shooting game competition called summer carnival.thats just insane what they did with the very limited NES hardware, you won`t believe that this is a NES game:there are a mass amount of ultra fast bullets and enemies with no slowdowns, huge bosses and the music is great also the stages backgrounds are really tripping you out,its an adrenaline bomb-)
no actual games will give you the joy and challenge of those oldschool shooters, trust me..and finally, thats what the xperia play is for:emulation .-) when i see such half assed ports like R-Type where there is no option for turning off this touch overlay even with "xperia play optimized" stamp..really better to emulate
There is a port of Tyrian on the market. You have to configure the controls through a non obvious interface, but it is probably one of the best vertically scrolling shooters ever made.
Sent from my R800x using XDA App
As above.
Psone:
R-type Delta
Einhander
Snes:
Super R-type
R-type 3
Tigermame:
R-type
R-type 2
R-type Leo
Let me add for SNES:
Axelay
Darious Twin

Now you are my favourite person on the whole internets.
i tried to make it work via dos emulators, but never worked.
just like Raptor: Call of shadows, wich is my fav dos based shooter. Somehow you can make it work on android, with full controls, but i never found the way to do it.

what app/rom setup do you use to get this working? looks like a good one
Blazing star is awesome, as is Pulstar (both NeoGeo). Dont forget theres GigaWing (CPS2) All three of these games, and many more, are playable on the awesome emulator Tiger Arcade Game Emulator, or TigerMame on the android market. Remeber though you must have the original games in order to have the roms. I only remember these games because I dumped enough quarters into the arcade games as a teen... Oh and if you like the Turbo-Grafx 16, Sinistron is pretty good, not as good the above ones but still fun.
So in a nutshell:
NeoGeo:
Blazing Star
Pulstar
CPS2: (Capcom Play System 2)
Gigawing 1 & 2
hmm tiger arcade is giving me graphics issues and control issues. I see the text and coin graphics but nothing else... also cant seem to map the controls to the xpderia pad. ah dear
What version of Tiger Arcade do you have? Mine works flawlessly on my xplay.
My settings for Tiger Arcade. V 2.2.0
Orientation: Landscape
Scaling Mode: Stretched
Key Mappings:
-Up - Dpad up
-Down - Dpad down'
-Left - Dpad left
-Right - Dpad right
-Coin - Select button (next to srat)
-Start - start obviously
Button A - X
Button B - Circle
Button C - Square
Button x - Triangle
its the one currently on their site:
http://apps.tigerplay.net/
the apk download says 3.0.3 but my phone is charging so I cant see if thats the version listed in the app itself

hehe some CAVE goodness..there are many CAVE bullet hell/manic shooters, main problem is:they are mostly vertical/TATE shooter and this is unfortanetly too small on xperia plays screen, you simply can`t concentrate on the ships hitbox(except Progear no Arashi which was made together with Capcom and is a horizontal shooter)
but if you want some really manic shooting i strongly recommend to fire up a pc mame emulator, for instance there is a extra lagless SHMUPMAME version, you can grab it on SHMUPS.COM,turn your monitor to vertical and try
-Donpachi(classic)
-Dodonpachi(my favourite till today,beautiful drawn sprites,great soundtrack,big explosions,supernice bulletpatterns)
-Dodonpachi Daioujou(ruthless one,you will throw your controller/stick onto the wall .-)
-E.S.P.rade(first in the "ESP" series)
-Espgaluda 1("easiest" Cave Shooter)
-Ketsui(Hardcore!)
-Guwange(probably the most stylish one if you are into japanese settings and oh boy the music in stage 3..)
-Dangun Feveron/Fever SOS(THE Disco Shooter,fast and frenzy.-)
all of them are great on their own! there are also numerous ports of the newer CAVE games on xbox 360(Mushihimesama Futari,Espgaluda 2,Dodonpachi Resurrection,DeathSmiles 1+2,Pink Sweets/MuchiMuchiPork are the ones that come to my mind).simply put CAVE are the masters of bullet hell shooting .-) i`ve got an old CRT monitor standing vertical with a arcade stick just for all the vertical shooters .-)
and for Blazing Star:yeah i totally forgot that one, really great shooter!
i`m personally really enjoying Mars Matrix and Giga Wing on the Xperia Play cause they have some sort of full screen vertical, which i didnt like on the big screen but for the Xperia Play its perfect, from the ps one games its Gradius Gaiden and the Salamander Deluxe Pack which i like the most.
Found this and wanted to share... looks awesome. It doesnt appear to be Xperia PLAY optimized but I have contacted the developer Machineworks Northwest LLC, will et ya'll know if i here anything back and I do hope they add support for our devices game controls and Games laucmher.. I told them I would buy the game in a heartbeat if they made this happen.....

I cannot believe ! Best Polish FPS on Android ??? Wow. I playd in this game years ago and i can say - I like it much more then any quake game (except quake 1). Famtastic news and I wait for replay from developer .
Just got this and playing it on my Xperia S for now. But will be really nice with Play controls as very good looking and only small size 30mb. Runs better then the Quake or Doom port's Nice find!!
This would be amazing to play with Xperia PLAY's controls.
The 30MB is also extremely modest. Gameloft needs to take notes from that.
It somewhat works with our controls, I can move with the d-pad. I use the touchscreen for aiming and firing, but good god, this is one boring game. So dissapointing....
I have started an ad free site/service that lists well designed and honest Android games. Every game that is listed on this site is either completely free with no advertising, has a one time up front cost or one time IAP to unlock the full content ad free.
For each game posted on the site I have a brief bullet point list. This list consists of information like the up front price or the price of a one time IAP that unlocks the full game or removes ads on an already full game. Also listed is the info on if the game has multiplayer, if so what kind of multiplayer (online, local wifi, pass and play). There is also a description of whether the game supports Google Play Services or whether the game supports immersive mode from Android 4.4. Gamepad support and if the game plays in landscape, portrait or both is also included in the description along with whether the Play store or Amazon offer a demo. All of these things I verify myself by playing the game. I also include the permissions of each game so everyone has an upfront idea of what the game has access to. So after the brief bulletpoints and permissions there will also be the devs description of the game from Google Play/Amazon Appstore.
There is a certain criteria I hold of all of the games I post.
- Upfront priced games with full content.
- There will not be any games listed that have pay walls or wait times.
- IAPs will only be allowed if they unlock the full game with a single purchase or removes ads in an already full versioned game.
- No ports of games that were heavily controller designed (SNK ports, Sega ports, Rockstar Games ports and DotEmu ports).
- Ports of touch based games from DS and PS Vita will be allowed as well as ports such as World of Goo or Chu Chu Rocket that happen to lend themselves quite nicely to touchscreen play. There is also a new trend of games being designed at the same time for consoles/pc as Android (such as Leisure Suit Larry or Shadowrun Returns), games designed like these (with touch controls in mind at the start of developing) will be included on the site as well.
- Games must be designed for Android and look correct on all of it's screen resolutions. That means no letter-boxing or low res graphics. This way bad iPhone ports that don't fit on our screens or games that don't bother to support HD devices like tablets will be weeded out.
- Games must look good. Some games out there have great gameplay but their graphics sometimes look like they were designed on Linux in the nineties. Games that fit this description will most likely not be listed as I am trying to encourage well designed pleasing to the eye kind of games. Of course the new trend of retro pixel art games are perfectly fine.
- Developer ethics also come into play. While Square Enix do not have IAPs their crazy online DRM schemes and complete lack of support (Chrono Trigger sound familiar) makes their games more than likely to not be listed. Gameloft, Glu and EA fit in this category pretty well too.
For me personally I feel it has been difficult at best if not almost impossible to navigate the Play Store to find truly well made games that aren't designed from the ground up to nickel and dime you. With most Android gaming review sites lacking any good list of games and most Android blogs publishing mainly articles about the newest Glu games (looking at you Android Central and Android Police) I feel a site like the one I have created will hopefully provide a much needed service for the Android gamer.
Basically this site lists games that look great on phones and tablets alike while also playing great on touchscreens all while ignoring the nickel and diming slum of Android gaming. So if any of this sounds good to you please check it out.
http://honestandroidgames.com
p.s. The site is still growing and new functions will be added. I am also open to ideas so if you guys have any please let me know.

Very nice chess game, I like it very much that there is such a large number of difficulties! Also, the graphics looks very nice.
Some suggestions:
1) The interface is very small on phones (mine is 5'), maybe phones should get a different drop-down interface where the text is much larger?
2) Optional sound effects and music could be nice
3) Right now, you assume that the player already knows the chess rules, which may not be true for the current young generation. Maybe you can add a tutorial to not loose these potential players?
great work
Many thanks

Any feedback ?
The biggest suggestion I would have is to add a small help button somewhere that takes users to a page that briefly explains how the pieces move (for inexperienced or novice players), like mentioned before. Nothing too fancy or that would require much work, just something so that newbies don't feel neglected. The graphics look nice and it seems to play well so far. Personally, I think the grass texture could be just a little nicer, but that is very very minor.
