At the launch event the official spec sheet shows only 32GB/64GB storage. There is no mention of 16GB... so has Samsung finally dropped the 16GB model? If so this is GREAT news!!! Also I see 60fps video recording, which will finally allow me to drop my canon t2i which I primarily use for its 60fps capabilities to make slow motion videos.

No but you can drop $17 and pick up a 64GB MicroSD.
apparently they did which is awesome, i made many mistakes in my life especially when i used to buy the 16GB models it sucks when you are out of space i hate it and i got a 32GB (95% full) i had to giveup on some of my stuff to recover space useless thing when you can't decide which stays and which goes with the wind XD
32GB is okay still not sure its enough but remains by far better that 16GB, hopefully all high end devices will end up with more space
+1 on that comment its indeed GREAT news
I wish, like HTC did with the HTC One. But according to the major tech news sites we should expect a 16GB version.
Spec sheet shows 32/64 GB. But in the actual unveiling, they also mentioned 16GB.

just make sure you buy a fast one! i bought the cheapest reputable 32gb microSD for my current phone and it takes an age to write stuff!
its fine in use though
Re: Is Samsung dropping the 16GB model? Is 32GB the base model now?
Awesome about 60 fps news.. and I hated the 16gb too and I am tired of binding apps.. directory bind is just so messed up and sometimes fails a lot.. a 32 gb with a sd slot is sweet .. a 64 gb is sweeter..

While I haven't heard they dropped the 16gig version it's entirely possible that they looked at the One and said eff it, we do 32/64gigs too. They could even go 32/64/128 considering they manufacture their own memories, why not one-up competition in that regard too?
Each increment from 16GB>32GB>64GB costs the manufacturer $10. If Samsung sells 30MM SGS4's and offered 32GB of memory "standard" that's $300M in lost profit assuming the selling price stays the same. If 4.5MM (15%) of those are people paying $100 more for 32GB of memory that costs Samsung $10 that's another $405MM in lost profit. So it's highly unlikely they'll be playing Marie Antionette ("let them eat cake") any time soon.
P.S. - The cost of a removable SD card is about $15-20. Not for the single part but because of things like flaps to protect it on sealed devices and the added expense of producing the device because of the additional (internal) design and fitment complexity it introduces. That's why HTC's ups their internal storage vs. providing an SD card on the majority of their devices and the backs of Samsung's devices are removable.
It seems that the S4 16GB price will be slightly above the HTC One 32GB, Samsung has no reason to upgrade it for free if they can take some more money for the 32GB.
Re: Is Samsung dropping the 16GB model? Is 32GB the base model now?
According to Android Central, available in 16, 32, & 64GB, fwiw...
I wish! I doubt I'll be able to find the 32GB version in my country, and if I do I bet it will be extremely overpriced
and I really wanted the 32GB version, on my SIII 16 wasn't nearly enough, I had to delete a few good games :/
I wish Android re-emplemented the moving apps to external sd card feature, why did they even discard that anyway?
All sales advertisement for S4 in Europe is 16GB version.
I can imagine that no sales company will set 32GB or 64GB for sale because price tag already is very high!
i think so
The 16 gig version lives and will be available in North America, EU and India. Confirmation Sources:

Just wanted to share my happiness (so far) from my latest buy, a 16GB class 10 card from eBay. Given the negative comments about eBay in this section, I thought I'd share. I had a sandisk ultra class 4 before, and it had very slow write speeds, so I returned it and bought this. Best £15 I ever spent.
Great speeds, very stable so far, my SGS is happy with it. The seller, in case you're interested, is called u2cheerz.
I attach the crystaldiskmark score, which outperforms my previous sandisk in every category. I just hope this doesn't die on me!!

Sorry to bother you my friend, but this microSD is fake one, 10class speeds are waaay bigger, also the real 10class cost about 50EUro.
But yours OK,for that price it`s just perfect,I got sandisk 16GB class2 with 7mb write and 22mb read.

Class 10 means minimum 10 MB/s. Which it covers perfectly. So I don't see why it's "fake". Maybe some better brands will give higher speeds, e.g. Lexar, but they cost four times as much.
As far as I'm concerned, it's more than 'just perfect'. The Sandisk Ultra (class 4) that I returned because it was too slow (class 4 indeed, despite some glowing reviews) costs £59.99 in store at Carphone Warehouse, and this £15 one wipes the floor with it and laughs at its face.
I'm not one to get excited by 'brands', sorry. If it works pefectly, which it does, it's more than enough for me. If you want to pay four times as much for something inferior, be my guest.

Got it, put stuff on it and it works.
This is how my Verbatim 8GB Class 4 card performs... Bought off eBay for US$11 only.
So i recently bought this microSD card:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...NaB1JX0%3D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWNX:IT
I was really excited that 32GB cards had gotten this cheap and for a class 10 one I was ecstatic!
Turns out it was a dupe and the drive is not only slow as a turtle, it doesn't really hold anything. (put 10GB of stuff on it and after the transfer was complete I went to the phone and only ~5GB of stuff was on there)
Also the adapter that came with it doesn't even work with it, it only responded to my phone (whereas my trusty 16GB from Dane Elec worked fine in the adapter).
Here's the comparison of my badass Class 2 16GB and the ****ty "Class 10 32GB"

Basically avoid any microSD sales from a user named: soundguyzbb
and I'd say it's safe to say that any microSD from the manufacturer titled "memorette" is bogus as well. I will attempt some of the other 32GB cards in this price range to see if there are any real ones.
This one will be going back for a refund tomorrow morning, I'll update if I find anything good or bad with my further market study

Idk but I just won a Class 2 ADATA 32GB card, I know they are a good company (I run an 8GB Class 6 SDHC in my camera from them and it's great) and am crossing my fingers I'll get another surprisingly fast card like the DaneElec 16GB.
Only cost me $40.03 with an auction, I saw some other brand name ones for $44, maybe slightly less. I'll be sure to make a review of the ADATA when I receive it. Ebay says it will be here between the 14th or 15th

i'm not complaining at that price, considering i have about 4 of the 16gb cards that the phone ships with
I had the same issue. Got one from ebay, real junk. Gonna wait till Best Buy has them on the shelf a couple months before I dive in again. Right now they still don't stock them. They keep saying "coming soon"
I paid $99 for my 32GB class 2 SanDisk microSDHC from Verizon when they first became available about a year ago. It's easily as fast as my 8GB class 6 ADATA which I bought from Newegg. I did some benches on it when I first got it and was really impressed. I'm sure I posted them here...
Anyway, I never buy memory cards on ebay. It's too easy for people to fake capacity and lie about speeds. Plus a high quality card with a low class rating in my experience is much better/faster than a low quality card with a high class rating.
My friend is in need of a phone that's totalling in capacity at atleast 64GB, no matter if it's microsd 32+internal 32 or microsd 64, just as long as it's atleast 64GB all in all, and it doesnt matter if it's rather old like Nexus S but not something very expensive like HTC One because Philippines used phones market is good for those, what's an ok Android device like that? it's really problematic because it's hard to tell from just google search, so if you already know one from the back of your mind I'll be greatful.
My friend just loves to take his nearly 30GB(and rather fast growing) music library everywhere and his iPod Classic just broke, and his suffered from the rather common flaw of the jack breaking plus large capacity mp3's are so hard to find in here, no matter where we look, so we just thought it's not a bad idea to just go for a phone.
Any input is greatly appreciated!
EDIT: Preferably at a low to mid end kind of price like 160 USD(even when estimated when it's used)

Here is a quick look at the new Lexar 633x 128GB MicroSDXC Card which was announced by Lexar. There is finally an alternative for people who still have a sour taste in their mouths from previous experiences with SanDisk cards. It even comes with a USB 3.0 MicroSDXC reader. As of this moment, Amazon.com LLC, Adorama, and B&H Photo are the only authorized retailers for this card in the US.
Card is Made in Korea

Product Highlights from the manufacturer:
• Premium memory solution for sports camcorders, tablets, and smartphones
• Quickly captures, stores, plays back, and transfers media files, including 1080p full-HD, 3D, and 4K video
• Leverages UHS-I technology for a transfer speed up to 633x (95MB/s)*
• Stores more than 15 hours of HD video; 33,000 photos; or 28,000 songs**
• Includes high-speed, Class 10 card and USB 3.0 reader
• Limited lifetime warranty for card and one-year limited warranty for USB 3.0 reader
I saw it on sale a few weeks ago on Amazon and decided to pick it up. It arrived today and I ran some benchmarks for your viewing pleasure. Do note that you will not see these speeds while it is inside of your Note 4 as none of these phones are capable of these high read and write speeds. I've included the A1 Benchmark (in phone).
As you can see, the read speed inside the Note 4 is only half of what you'd get with a UHS-I compatible USB 3.0 Card reader.
I would certainly consider this the better card for only $10 more than the SanDisk Ultra, especially if you consider that the Lexar has superior speeds, a free USB 3.0 card reader, and a better warranty. It's not fast enough for 4k on the GoPro 4 Black (due to the lower write speeds), but it's definitely fast enough for 4k on the Note 4.
There's not much to say so feel free to ask questions.
Thanks for sharing l wonder If its available where I am located and hopefully at a decent price point

I've always had nothing but great experiences with Lexar! I purchased the 128 GB 633x from Amazon and love it! Can't go wrong with their products. That warranty is great to have as well.
Was there a price or did I miss it
That is definitely better than the ultra. And it does matter in the phone. I have a lot of Micro Sd cards because I have a GoPro so I tested the transfer speed in the phone of most of them. First I took a 1 gig video at 4K and saved it to the internal storage. Then timed how long it would take to copy it the the sd card from the phone. First the Sandisk Ultra took 83 seconds, then the lexar 600x took 57 seconds, third the Samsung Pro took 41 seconds. So there are real life scenarios that the speed matters. Also, since I have a GoPro, I hate that I have an Ultra card because it can't be used in it.

Personally, not that I couldn't find a way to use the space, I'm just more waiting for the price to lower to around $50US. There will be some kind of sale. Till then, I'll torture myself with the 64GB Scandisk Ulta I've been using for over two years and the 32GB on internal storage

Thermal Issues Exist
I received my 128 * 633 yesterday and loaded DivX files at about 21 mps and mp3's at between 11 MBps and 16 MBps using the enclosed USB 3 adapter. I was able to load between 3GB and 20GB at a time before the device experienced thermal shutdown. Device was too hot to touch upon shutdown and had to cool down before the computer would see it again. Do I have a problem unit or is this the unavoidable nature of the beast? I intend to run it in my LG G3 so I would be tasking it more gently than with my uploading.
did anybody have the chance to compare the lexar directly to sandisk or the new samsung 128gb sd cards in a phone?

Great price for a 64gig card. Lifetime warranty and decent reviews... I may pull the trigger.
I've been using this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IVPU7AO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00 after having a 64gb Sandisk go bad on me. Been using it since November and so looking forward to putting it in my new Galaxy S7 I've ordered

I think that the pro+ is a beast of a micro SD card with that write speed. I could not justify the 230% cost increase over the evo+ to get it though. Honestly I doubt that there is anything I will do that will take advantage of the evo+ speeds in a phone anyway.

I ordered my pro + 128GB for 90€ Notebooksbilliger.de - through direct link from Samsung.com shop
Haven't seen any benchmarks yet except from one user on Amazon.
Mostly with the Gear 360 in mind.
Neither of the OP cards are fastest/best.
The two releasefastest UHS-II/U3 cards in microSD format are:
Lexar Professional 1800x (R: 270 MB/s, W: 220 MB/s) (sources: cameramemoryspeed)
http://www.lexar.com/professional-1800x-microsd
SanDisk Extreme Pro (R: 275 MB/s, W:225 MB/s) (source:cameramemoryspeed)
https://www.sandisk.com/home/memory-cards/microsd-cards/extremepro-microsd-uhs-ii
As of now (2/2016), there is nothing in the market that is faster. Not from Kingston, not from cheap Chinese knock-offs, Panasonic or from Samsung.
NB! The two cards in question are not as of yet available in all sizes (128GB coming later).
My personal limit for 128GB is 100€ that's why I went with the Samsung pro plus 128GB
If the Gear 360 would have been recording with 30 Megapixels at 30 or 60 fps I would have went with the 250MB/s cards
And yeah ... Work related am going at least once a day through X-ray... The pro plus should last at least 2 years

This link seems to suggest the evo+ is better than the pro+
What other sd cards are there that are less than $100

I think the EVO+ wins over the PRO+ only because of price. The cost per GB is a huge difference & when counting that in the PRO+ cant compete. But if cost is not factored I dont see the EVO+ being considered better then the PRO+ ever.

Well that article shows that the random read and write speeds (applicable for phones) is higher on the evo than the pro.

Here.. This one actually talks about the 2 specifically. https://www.ephotozine.com/article/samsung-pro--evo--microsd-memory-card-review-28061
The write speeds on the PRO+ are over 3x the EVO+.. Never heard of the site before so I dont know their testing methodology, but based on specs of the cards that is what you should be seeing.

FYI, I believe both of these cards use the UHS-II spec and needs the extra set of pins to provide full speed. Not sure if the S7 will support UHS-II or not

This is true. We don't know until somebody tests.
The card themselves however are the best in the market.
Whether S7 can utilize the speed, remains to be seen.
