[Q] Movies Pause, Freeze, or Start Over - Asus Transformer TF700

I cannot play a movie (typically over wifi) without some kinda glitch on this thing. For the most part I have worked out every other major issue on this device except this and I can't seem to figure it out. I have both MX Player and BS Player and they both do this. I have tried every conceivable settings combination you could imagine. Why can't I play one movie from start to finish without 10 -20 random pauses? What is causing the movie to do these random pauses? It doesn't matter if its mkv, mp4, avi they all do it. Anyone else have the same problem?

Do you have force GPU enabled or disabled under developer settings? Try toggling it on or off.

I'm seriously starting to think that maybe you *do* have a defective TF700! I have never seen anyone have so many damn "glitches"!
Have you tried exchanging the device? I'm being serious... If not, you may want to give that a shot. I have watched countless videos via countless apps, over wifi, from SD card and from internal memory and haven't had any issues...
What ROM/kernel are you running?

I agree, even when I was on stock, I had no problem playing movies. My problem was browsing, but anyways. If you can, I would exchange it. Even when I was on stock I didnt have any problem like or similar to this one. Sorry for your difficult time.
Have you attempted to do a fresh flash/full wipe?

Thanks... I use Tapatalk, so I don't see the signatures... I never really looked to see if there was a way to enable them, to be honest!
But yeah, I would try exchanging the device if you can't do something as simply as watch a video... Or possibly try a fresh install first, to see if that helps.

Thanks for all of your feedback. Yes I have volume+ installed. I am rooted on stock ROM and kernel (at the moment). I am watching movies fine now. At least for the time being. Both off SD and internal memory. Have to test the wifi streamer next. Here's what I did to correct the problem. Which one did it, I haven't a clue, but I have a gut feeling:
1. Cold-booted Linix (Reboot Bootloader:RCK and do nothing) three times in a row.
2. Ran FMR Memory Cleaner
2. Disabled "1Tap Quick Bar" as a startup [Some add-on for RAM Booster widgets]
3. Disabled "Exchange Services" as a startup
4. Installed "Bluetooth Auto Connect"
My guess is 1 - 3 did it. I think 3 was the main problem. Do most people have 250+ market apps installed? Maybe that's my problem. Too many combinations to keep track of. One day she's running like a cheetah and the next day a slug. It all depends on which apps I enable at the time.
No I don't think I have a defective device. Maybe I'm just working her too hard lately or have too little tolerance for computers that don't run perfectly all the time. I've got both system tuner and ROM toolbox and am constantly making changes, trying this boost, that tweak, this script, etc. I think I'll just find stability and leave it to rest for awhile. Reminds me of a Ford Bronco I had all boosted that would constantly break down so I got in the habbit of always carring tools and spare parts to fix just about any problem that could occur road-side in under 10 minutes. It wasn't uncommon for me to pull over on the freeway in the rain to adjust my timing. I used to and still do enjoy tweaking on things to make them better. Glad to be driving a Honda now. Just looking for that same reliablity in my hardware.

Update: Back for some more wrestling. Both my arms are out-of-the socket but I can still hop. Reminds me of a Monte-Python I saw once with a limbless Knight and a rabbit...anyway. This only fixed being able to play the movies locally. But then I tried streaming, and still got the pauses. Started doing some more poking around. Disabled everthing to do with NOTIFICATIONS (1-Weather, Backlight Switch, RAM Booster, Volume in Notifications and those System Tuner notification icon packs I installed (%CPU, Temp (F), CPU Freq). Now it plays and streams fine.
Man, one god damn little s*&^^$ piece of software can really screw this system up! Why do top tier softwares come with third tier add-ons sometimes? It doesn't make any sense from a marketing perspective to screw up your reliablity like that. Like this issue or that 1TAP Quick Bar for RAM Booster, never did get that to work. Guess I can't have my cake and eat it too. I'll start slowly putting my UI back together, notification wise, and see which one it is, but if this is any clue, when I disabled the ones from System Tuner, System Tuner crashed. I'll bet its those icon notifiers that was doing the interrupts that my video player interprets as PAUSE. I'm really getting sick of spending all my time fixing little bugs with this pad rather than enjoying what it has to offer, but I am learning oodels by doing it. Just didn't want to fast-track it like I've been. Ouch, I feel the next glitch coming already...

Remove Volume+ completely. I had issues watching movies as well. stock and rooted. its one of the reasons i almost returned my device. While watching movies, my device would freeze and reboot on its on. Other times, the movies would play, but no sound would come out. I dont know how i came to the conclusion, but i removed Volume+ and have not had the issue since. Maybe get DSP manager for volume enhancing.

With all of the different "fix my system" apps that you have installed, it's no wonder you are having issues. With apps like System Tuner, unless you are really experienced with Android (and/or some variant of Unix) and how these OS's work, you can run in to some nasty performance and stability problems.
I learned long ago that you usually don't need any of these apps and they usually cause more harm than good, especially if you have more than one installed at the same time. I'd suggest that you start fresh (clean install) and only install apps that you actually use. Forget about all of the apps that try to fix things that aren't broken. I think you'll have a much better experience in the end... Hell, I don't even install SetCPU or apps like that anymore - I've found that my system runs pretty damn good now! Android comes "pre-tuned" - let it do it's thing...
EDIT: I must say, however, that I am running CleanROM, not stock. It runs so much smoother than stock that it's worth the risk of unlocking the device to install it. If you are truly worried about warranty coverage, get a SquareTrade accidental coverage warranty - they are dirt cheap.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2

I concur, all these apps; rambooster, system tuner, android tuner, memory manager, setcpu etc are mainly a waste of time on stock and are clearly causing some of your issues. Android itself is wrestling trying to maintain control of the OS and memory by the sounds of it.
The best tweaks come from a stable system and the kernel. As you are rooted but still locked you won't be able to benefit fully from some of the tweaks.
Every now and then I mess around with system tuner and get things a bit unstable. In fact the best options are sometimes to not even install it

Well I have just about given up on playing movies over wifi. Some work with these settings, others work with those settings, and some just don't work at all. I get the same effect streaming from my portable Seagate wireless HDD as I do over my corporate wifi streaming from my desktop so its not the wifi or the wifi on the device (its been totally reliable otherwise); its the audio and video decoder over wifi just does not seem to work well or consistently at all for me. I can play the same movie locally with settings "A" and need different settings "B" to play over wifi if it plays at all, or plays at a quality considered high enough to watch which isn't often.
Settings I am discussing are H/W+ video decoder, H/W video decoder, S/W video decoder, and same (3) but audio decoder. Locally I can usually play everthing H/W+, both video and audio. Sometimes I need H/W but never S/W. Network I can usually play most with H/W, both video and audio. But I had to play a recent movie over wifi with H/W video and S/W audio to get it to work. Every movie needs different settings over wifi. Really a PITA and with 96GB flash on the pad I just have ended up copying what I want to watch locally from the Seagate via wifi (as I have no keyboard dock or USB adapter). After disabling nearly everthing now it doesn't pause or stop entirely any more, it just "glitches", like momentarily stalls with no sound, or choppy sound, or choppy video, then eventually continues playing. These "glithes" can last 5-10s and can happen 5-10 times during a 2 hr movie. I think I'll just revise my user name here to "Mr. Glitch" as some already know me by and call it a day on this topic folks.

Try Dice Player - I use it almost daily for local and wifi streaming - works flawlessly...
I too had some issues with other video players, but Dice just works - streams via hardware over network, etc. Also support volume increase and windowed player capabilities.

OMG I got Dice Player it is working flawlessly. I configured my Seagate wireless HDD as a Samba server and its smooth as silk with default settings! I've even got all my startups loaded, some System Tuner tweaks, and no problems I can detect. I was so bummed from these wifi problems because I really wanted to use this pad as a mobile theater system and bought the $200 Seagate to pair it with as a host streamer but I haven't had any luck yet getting it working and was ready to tuck tail, call it a wasted venture, and hang it up. Haven't tried it over HTTP yet but this is simply fantastic. I have spend hours trying to get both MX and BS Player to stream for me and they don't work. This one rocks on wifi. I don't know how to thank you. If you are anywhere near Fremont, CA I will get you drunk for this one.

Works flawlessly over HTTP as well. Got it playing a movie in a window that I couldn't play before. System Tuner, RAM booster, Volume+, Volume in Notifications, Back Light Switch, Browser2RAM, they are all loaded. All the things that didn't work with other players work with this one. I'm blown away. You pick the restaurant and bar, any ones you want buddy. Its on me.

Ha! Thank you for the generous offer - unfortunately, I couldn't be further away - I'm all the way over near Philadelphia...
Anyway, thank the developer of Dice Player - not me - write up a good review for the app on the Play Store.
It has so many unique features as well, such as audio delay, audio amplification, "windowed" mode, swipe to control brightness/volume, etc.
Glad you got things sorted out.

Napster and Slacker Radio Streaming Issues

Hello fellow posters,
I am having a very strange problem that shows its ugly head with Napster and Slacker Radio. The song will play for exactly 12 seconds and then stop. The song will then resume again several seconds later. The rest of the song plays fine from that point forward. I find it strange that it happens on both apps at the same exact time (12 seconds). MOG doesn't seem to have this issue.
I have a 4G signal with at least 3 bars when the issue happens. The problem doesn't occur is streaming from WIFI.
Is anybody else having problems with these apps with their G2X?
Thanks for your time,
Lance
I have the same problem. I was running the gingerbread leak thought it was that. So I'm back on stock same problem.

Napster and Slacker Radio
Does anybody have ideas on how to resolve the issue (song stops playing after seconds almost every time. The song then starts playing again after several seconds).
Is it a phone issue since it happens on both Slacker Radio and Napster? Any setting changes that can be done?
Thanks,
Lance
I haven't tried napster, but for slacker, try version 2.1.191. I loaded it with titanium backup. The last couple versions suck, and apparently not just on our phones/roms. The market comments are BAD. lol...
Not sure how to locate it if you don't have a backup. I'll see about getting the apk somewhere.. It was free on the market, so I can't see how it would be "piracy"...
I have the same problem with Slacker, so it's unusable on my G2x. If this isn't fixed sometime soon, I'll be canceling my paid Slacker account.
slacker updated again today. so far so good streaming over 3g
I had to turn on High quality mode in the settings menu, then the song would cache all the way in 3g. If it's in normal quality, they song doesn't cache all the way and will occasionally skip. Wifi works normally.
I've also disabled the local stream manger in slacker as well. Not sure if that has done anything
I tried again with the latest version and disabling the "local media server" option. Already had high quality enabled.
It actually plays music now. Thanks for the tip. Now if we could get music apps not to stutter when the cpu gets used... Sigh. A dual core should NEVER stutter music when multitasking.
Yes it what the "local Media server" not "local stream manager" . Sorry about that; I didn't have my phone on me.
Glad you're working. Not even sure what that feature does.
i deleted slacker. the damn app wants to run for so many actions. check it out using an app like autostarts. it starts running for a ton of different actions, things that don't even make sense.
winamp is almost as bad,but tolerable.

I have Napster and I have the SAME EXACT problem. The only way I got around it was to download the playlists so it wouldn't skip. It's extremely annoying. I've already informed LG about the issue a month or so ago. Its only on Napster tho. Not Rhapsody or Pandora.

What are some of the drawbacks for running ICS?

Hi guys,
I am not certainly an expert in this field but it seems like because we don't have the driver for the graphical card, the phone does not have video camera function when ICS is installed.
My question is I've realized that from watching YouTube and other streaming videos, the quality of video is really bad. Is that have anything with video support?
I'm pretty sure with the stock the quality of the video was just fine.
Thanks in advance for your comments!

The biggest issue currently is the lack of hardware video acceleration which can easily be solved my using MXplayer and having the video decoded through the software instead.

I'm not sure if it really matters, but what ROM are you using? I've used several ICS ROMs and never really noticed any issues with video quality on Youtube or other sites. It does seem to be slow to load at times, which may be because of the video driver issue. But quality-wise, it looks fine to me.

I must say the picture looks saturated I mean dither gradation of the colors seems not be read correctly? It definitely has nothing to do with how much time it'd take to load.the bids its the picture.that degrades its quality..

These are what I notice to be funky and a bother, the reasons for why they don't work might not be correct but here is what I notice...
No proper video drivers = camera is funky sometimes NO VIDEO unless you use video cam illusion only mediocre quality, some video playback to alot are not proper or functioning fully at the least. Takes longer to load things (I think, ill be surfing xda or Facebook and it loads like DSL used to load in sections, half the screen and other times by quarters, really weird.)
No REAL Hardware Acceleration, it is just a hack with missing libs or Hals or binaries a bunch of little things, this causes a mess of issues if I'm not mistaken which is a possibility (a likely one)
Other things I've noticed are that battery is usually terrible if you use the phone, not super fast at all again proper drivers are the cause of that one. Incoming calls are a pain on most roms. Wifi calling is a no go for a whole lot of people, including me. More things that are just annoyances but also make it not a daily driver for some including me, I've tested them all and always revert... just mainly the annoyances and the lack of wifi calling.

I agree with all that is said above. I had all of these problems and I always had this funky problem in which when ever I was browsing the web it would randomly decide to start flickering the screen black on the page and then not letting me see anything until I started to actively scroll and then the problem would come back. This happened to me over and over until I reverted back to GB. That and the new baseband that is a much needed improvement and is only compatible with GB right now.
I don't know how unique my problem is, but I can't use my phone for development anymore for some reason or some of the advanced Bluetooth features. Pre-ICS, all the G2x drivers installed normally from Windows Update and I could do all the various Bluetooth things, such as Bluetooth file browsing. Post-ICS, my G2x shows up as an unknown device in Bluetooth, so no more Bluetooth file browsing. Also, when I connected my phone for the first time and turned on debugging, Windows couldn't install the drivers to make it work, adb doesn't recognize it, and eclipse won't push to it. Keep in mind, this was on a computer I connected to just fine a few hours ago.
Now, at this point I was a little pissed because I can't use my phone for development, so I try another laptop that my G2x had never connected to. Plug it in, nothing. Install LG drivers, nothing. So I think that ICS somehow messed up my ability to use debugging mode, because when I disable debugging mode I don't have any "Other Devices" in Device Manager.
I've been running arcee's CM9-SK3 since he released it, the hardware acceleration is a nuisance, but my biggest complaint is the maps problem. When I'm using maps or navigating, the map will randomly blank out and maps will require a complete restart. It's quite annoying while navigating, and absolutely infuriating while searching the map for something. I can live with the battery (I have two), I can get over the lack of video (youtube HD works fine), but the maps thing is what drives me the most crazy, especially since I just moved across the country right after installing SK3.

Annoyance with the martket

Wondering if anyone else is having a problem when updating/downloading apps from the Play Market. Each Time I do it seems to "freeze" the tablet for several seconds, no touch input works. Then it will slowly come back to life and allow touch inputs or the ability to back out/go home. Is it just me?
I haven't had this issue so far. I had a pretty hefty amount of apps to install when I moved over to this tablet and it did it seamlessly. There was some slow down, but this is to be expected as it accesses the memory and such. Otherwise, I had little to no issues with the market besides some network slowdowns when loading images and such.
This hasn't been an issue with the network. If I download a single app its as if the machine is non-responsive for 5-10 seconds, no touch input works (not even the home button) then after that time it will show downloading and everything gets back to normal. I have not noticed any issues in any other programs and not even any slowdown. But when downloading from the Play Market it does this every time, something has to be glitching between the two.
Does anyone else have this occur...with any device? I've used the android market for several years now and this has never happened before. I love the tablet though, this is just an annoyance that I want to resolve.
I have it with Asus Transformer TF101. I always assumed it was a hardware problem (slow NAND).

I'm pretty sure its not a hardware issue with the Note 10.1
No problem here with US GN 10.1 32GB WIFI. Had two Google Play downloads going then went to play Ski Safari that seem even faster than my Nexus 7 even with the downloads in the background.
Firmware update seems to have fixed the market freezing problem I had when updating/downloading apps. Though there is a very slight "lag" that occurs when doing so...its there only when I first initiate an update/download - glad its not freezing now though!

[Q] Another FLASH Question...Plz help.

Hello All,
I recently upgraded my stock Xoom from HC to JB 4.1 and of course, flash stopped working. I had held off on all updates due to reports of it getting wonky after ICS, but I eventually went ahead when I kept reading of the success of sideloading the latest flash apk and using Dolphin HD or the stock browser.
My problem is, although it does work to a degree, the main reason I need flash is for Amazon prime instant streaming video and many of the network TV sites like abc.com, tnt.com, fox.com and the like. Now when I play video, it works to a degree, but is often too choppy to be watchable. A bigger problem is the audio, although the sound quality is flawless even with choppy video, it is NEVER in synch with the video. The last issue is if I try to watch full screen, the picture blacks out entirely. A minor nidge is that Dolphin keeps disabling flash on its own saying it is no longer supported.
Am I SOL here or is there any help I can hope for?
You can install flash and use the stock browser....flash will work flawlessly. As for the A/V sync issues, not a clue.

it's not flawless if the audio is delayed and it blacks out if you go full screen. Do me the favor and try to watch something on ABC.com on your xoom and report back.Thank you.

Sorry it took so long. Ok i did as you requested. I watched 3 different shows on abc, i had no lag, stutter, echo, choppy-ness, and the audio was in sync.
I would check your flash player settings. Open the Flashplayer app in your app drawer.
• Local Storage: clear data/storage.
• Local Storage: Always Allow, if this setting is currently marked then use "Only From Sites I Visit"
•Peer Assisted Networking: Enabled, if enabled try disabling it and try again.
If any changes made, Force Stop the Flashplayer app and Browser under /settings/app/ and clear cache only on both. Then try watching a show again.
As far as the screen timing out when on full screen; this is a JB issue, as JB technically does not support flash.
I hope this helps.......

Thanks so much for responding. No need to apologize for timing.
Unfortunately, none of these steps have fixed the problem. Strange that it would work on so many stock devices and not mine.
As to the full screen issue, it's not timing out. It just goes all black as soon as you hit the full screen button. The audio keeps playing however. This is true on the stock browser, Dolphin HD, and Firefox.
Thanks for trying. Any other ideas? I'm starting to think My days with my beloved xoom may be coming to a close. I just despise the thought of having to give Apple any $$$.

[Q] Music Stuttering In Every Player I Try

I have a Galaxy S3 i747 running AOKP 4.2.2. I've tried Google Play Music, Omich Player, Android Music Player, and PowerAmp. Whenever I do anything on my phone while listening to music, it skips for a second or two. By this I mean locking or unlocking it, opening an app, and sometimes doing something within an app. Its really obnoxious and is seriously ruining my enjoyment of this phone. My ROM has an overclock function, so I tried forcing the processor to go to 1.6gHz at all times, but that didn't fix it. It also has an SD card read ahead function, but even setting that as high as 4000kb had no effect. This happens whether there's zero or a dozen apps in the background. Sometimes clearing the apps cache and force closing it followed by restarting the phone helps. Also, sometimes switching to another music player whip fix it for a while before that one starts skipping too.
Is there any solution to this? I've seen other people with this problem but they either never resolve it or the solution that works for them doesn't work for me.
Perhaps
If you have AntiVirus on your mobile phone. Possible that some programs are not compatible

Nope, no antivirus
I know this sounds crazy but try using headphones with a built-in microphone. I'm almost positive that is how I fixed this issue on an older phone that had the same issue.
