[Q] How to "cancel"/remove a patch? - HTC One S

hello,
I already installed 1 or 2 patches in my HTC One S, and they are ok.
But I'm planning to install another one that I may want to uninstall if it doesn't work. So I'm wondering if there's a way to "cancel" 1/some/all patches?
thanks!

I don't think you can cancel or remove a patch in the traditional way but if you're rooted you can create a nandroid (system) backup that will restore your phone to the state it was in when the nandroid was created.

[Q] Best Way To Restore Apps (No Root)

Just got my sensation from walmart earlier after selling my mytouch on here and I'm trying to find the best method to use to restore apps without root atm. I haven't factory reset my mytouch so I still have it. What method have my fellow xda'ers used?
You tried titanium backup?

If you reinstall from Market, you'll have to find all the free apps on your own to reinstall them.
Issues including this are why I'll wait till it's unlocked and rooted. Apps like Titanium Backup are too good to live without.

I'm thinking I'm just gonna download apps I use on a daily basis and once root is out I'll restore them all
i just dont get why google dont provide its own app to backup the stuff locally with encryption... every time getting a new phone means losing all data, it is craps like this makes me appreciate the *god forbids* iphone and itune. hopefully the new unlock bootloader allows root to come out fast enough so i can just titanium backup and restore it
Mybackup Pro did work for me, but only just. It restored all the apps but w/o the data.Just an example: It restored my Acrobits VoIP software, but w/o my 3 SIP accounts, which I had to re-define manualy.
I use MyPhoneExplorer, wich gives You ability to backup/restore not only contacts, calendar, notes etc... but also applications. But, as paulmor said, in this app also, You can't backup settings in apps, but only the *.apk files (install files).

How to transfer all setting and apps to the new ROM?

Titanium Backup.
One method is to just download them again from the market, or use a backup program to save and then restore them.
titanium backup works really well. I dont know how good it works while switching between roms. Its definitely the best though
But I have to setup all the homepage settings again, is there any chance to save that setting as a file?

Use titanium backup. Before rom flashing.
1. Backup all USER apps.
2. Backup [desktop] htc sense. This is for your desktop configuration or home pages if using sense.
Flash new rom. I usually wipe data, factory reset since I have back ups. This way I always get clean installs of new rom.
After flashing, download titanium backup from market. In titanium backup
1. Restore missing USER apps + data. Note only user apps.
2. Restore DATA ONLY for [desktop] htc sense. Note data only.
You are now all set .... enjoy your new rom
Also using titanium backup pro version is easier since you don't have to manually say install for each app.
Thx! It works!

I use a combination of titanium backup and mybackup pro because they both have their pros and cons.
MyBackup Pro allows you to backup sms, mms, call log, calender data, homescreen apps and settings, and many more..
Titanium backup is more about apps and less of sms, mms, homescreen and call log backup. ( I probably don't know how to do it)
I went to "backup/restore" tab in titanium backup pro...now how do I backup all of my apps? lol
Also, does backing up/restoring apps mess up anything when getting a new rom?
Or you can download mybackup pro. I use that and titanium backup just to be safe

Some widgets may not load correctly the first time but all you have to do is erase them and put them backup on the homescreen...most people fix permissions after doing a restore and everything runs perfect

New Nexus S - Should i wait ?

Hello
Just got my new Google Nexus S : )
I wanted to know if It would be better to wait till google releases the new ICS 4.0 Andriod and get it updated and then go with New Roms
or
Should i install a new ROM now for better speed and stability ?
If yes, which ROM should i start off with as i am a total beginner with Rooting/Flashing etc.
I dont mind waiting till 4.0 Android is released...
Any suggestions ?
Putting ROMs on it now doesn't exclude you from putting ICS on it later. Go have fun with it and try out different ROMS. When ICS comes out, you can put that on it too. No restrictions !!
But wouldnt rooting the device bar me from updating to ICS officially from Google ?
Yes but there will be ICS ROMs released here that you can install
Stock Android is actually pretty good and very stable. But if you want to toy around, just go ahead and have fun with the great ROMs we have available now.
Greetz
U can also flash back to stock when ics comes out and update officially and reroot and your good

That is the one I used...how ever I would suggest getting a 5.0.2.0 recovery image as the one in the file that goes with that video is an older version...it will still work though.

Which ROM or Kernel did you try out ?
How about using Rom Manager by ClockworkMod?
Which program to use for backing up Data (contacts, messages etc) before Rooting the device ?
off topic, but since you asked about backing up contacts im sure this could help. Go to your contacts, and choose the option to back them all up to SD card. After that, choose to delete all your contacts from your phone, then restore the backup from SD, but choose to restore them as gmail contacts instead of to your phone. This way when you sync your gmail account your contacts will just repopulate. Very handy when flashing new roms ect

When i import "IMport from USB Storage", it does not ask me to import as Gmail Contacts.
How do i do that ?
For me,
I will import my contacts in gmail (via browser in pc) so i can manage easily, edit, create group, etc..
and finally sync it all to phone.
That was i done when i use android for the first time.

How do you guys restore apps and settings from switching between roms!!

I know this is a noob question, but how does everyone reinstall there settings and apps after superwipes? Do you guys use titanium? Cause I thought titanium restores like that made crashes. I'm going from HD 3.6.11 to 6.0.1..

Yes titanium is the way most here restore and back up apps. The trick is to restore apps with data only and NOT system data. Restoring system data from another rom to a new different rom will conflict and cause force closes. Kinda self explanatory if you think about it a bit. But bottom line titanium is the way to go when traveling from rom to rom. Titanium is good, but nandroid backups is THE way to back up your set up prior to flashing new stuff. Happy flashing.
But you don't need to restore your system settings other than bt profiles and wifi access points.
When I was using my Desire I used to use mybackup pro. It is a great app. Try it. It will restore your apk's as well as data.

Download titanium backup. Click on the backup/restore tab. Then tap your menu button on your phone. Hit batch. Backup user apps. That will put a folder in your sdcard called TitaniumBackup with your backups in it. After flashing a new rom, download titanium backup again and go to batch. And hit restore user apps with data

+1 for titianium.
as far as contacts go, you have these backed up automatically to your gmail account when you set it up, or do a manual export to your sd card from within the 'people' app.
how about the green system info
My question is similar and having learnt the hard way when installing the system apps and data causing new ROM to FC often.
However, other than the "missing app and data" do you restore anything else? which is safe to do? I assume the account info, access point, MMS is ok? How about the desktop? Is there a way to restore how the apps were organized (i.e. the folders they are placed)?
Also, when you reinstall titanium backup after a new ROM, will it automatically know you can download the pro version if it's bought in market place? Or else, how can one avoid having to pay again to reinstall?
Thx.
You can restore SMS & MMS with the stock Messaging-Program.
Thats the way I do it: Save Apps with Titanium, Store Messages & Contacts to SD-Card and make Screenshots from my desktop´s.
When you change the OS, you can´t restore Systemsettings. Like the Desktop as well.
The Titanium Pro can be activated on a different OS Version. Just download the free one and activate it by the given Key from the paied Version.
Use Titanium Backup its the best one out for android os
So take a screen shots of the folders the apps r in and just reorganized it all over? There's no way to do it automatically then?
Thx

There is a system setting for allowing you to backup the Sense desktop. I forget exactly whatever its called in titanium but it does work after you flash a new Rom and need to restore.

Titanium pro is the best tool with daily schedules of Redo backsups for modified data and new apps.

Best way to restore apps, data (and possibly settings)

Hi all.
I tend to switch Roms here and there, or load a new version and have to wipe and format.
I was wondering what the best way to restore is.
I am debating between;
Using titanium backup to restore only apps plus data - is this best to load the ROM and restore after installing the titanium app?
Or make a zip file and install from recovery? Also if from recovery, should I let the ROM load first then load zip second time around?
Alternately, I can use my backup pro and restore all. But again, is it a zip file to restore in recovery ? And if yes, when is best to do it? After ROM install or let ROM load first? I noticed recovery pro also has the options of sms, call logs and other settings which is nice.
Please let me know your thoughts and if any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Titanium for when you are rooted and Helium for when you are not rooted. Helium also backups sms calls if i`am right. I use CallTrack to store the phonelogs and display them in Google Calendar.
Hi and thanks. I am rooted.

I have used titanium for years, has never failed me. It also backs up and restores sms and mms. I have also used rom toolbox pro and my backup pro in the past.
