Multitouch Problem - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've found something that affects multitouch in the galaxy tab 2 7.0. When I put two or more fingers on the screen in apps that needs multitouch(dead trigger, maps, chrome) and move them (this is hard to explain in words) the app will have 'jittery' movement and sometimes the multitouch will 'break'(pinch to zoom will stop midway). I also tested this with the 'show pointer location' in developer options and it seems that the pointer trail has gaps in it. This cannot be a hardware issue because I haven't dropped the tablet and it only happened recently. It's probably software related as the issue dissapears for a while if I restart. I'm using stock rom 4.0.3 non-rooted with no custom kernels. Does this also happen in other ics and jb stock roms?

touchscreen questions

Can anyone who has installed a custom android type rom let me know if the touchscreen is better once rooted and reflashed. I am talking about sensitivity at the store two different ones now both units are just bad when trying to select something I occasionally had to hit the selection more than 2 times.
I am also interested in if this changes. I read that its hit or miss whether or not thr screen works as intended or has problems, leaving me to believe its a production consistancy issue.
Some love it and some hate it.
Does this sound accurate?

Sounds like it.
There's another thread about this which has a youtube video of one of the ones who said their's was bad and it certainly looked to be the case. In the video on the "home" "page" of the launcher when he swiped in the top half of the screen nothing happened most of the time, while it worked as expected in the bottom half. Mine behaves as expected wherever I swipe...
I'm not going to let on that it will be perfect, but when I moved to TnT Lite (I'm now on 2.2.1), I installed LauncherPro. Within LauncherPro, you can adjust the sensitivity and scroll settings that covers all the launched actions. Also, there's an entry you can add to the local.prop [go into adb shell and type: echo ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 >> /data/local.prop ] (requires r/w permissions to update). This change made it smoother (and quicker) to go from screen to screen.
There are still times where I press an icon and nothing happens for a second or so, but it rarely happens anymore with all the improvements that have been added to TnT Lite over the last couple of weeks.
I have had no touchscreen sensitivity issues to speak of with ZPad ROM. I am now running the VEGAn ROM which has really come together nicely in the last few days, and again the touchscreen is as sensitive in all places as I would expect it to be.
Any slowness/lag issues were resolved with the updated drivers that were discovered a week or two ago.
The stock TNT ROM has lots of software issues that are totally unrelated to the hardware. This is most likely one of them. I can't say for sure, since I wiped my unit within 5 minutes of opening the box and installed ZPad.
The touchscreen is still not as good with multitouch as it should be, which I believe is a driver issue, so pinch and zoom and similar multitouch action is not as smooth as it ought to be. But in general use, typing, swiping, scrolling, etc. I am just single-touching and everything works as smoothly and well as it does on my Nexus One phone.

I have noticed this bug on sense 2.1 roms. If you rotate the screen it will switch keyboards and fix it and you can just rotate it back. I have never experienced this on 3.0 and higher sense roms. I think its just a bug on 2.1.
Also it has been a reported bug on CM7 roms, I believe its CM7 roms or maybe older versions too. There is no current fix. Some users just use a keyboard from the market like swiftkey or something like that. Its an app you have to pay for, but seems to get rid of the issue.
I ran into a similar issue last night when I was typing a post on another forum. My keyboard lagged greatly and then just stop responding for a few seconds. However it seemed to only happen when I was in my browser typing on the forum page. It was happening on Dolphin Browser and the stock browser. I tested it with three different keyboards (Swiftkey X, Gingerbread Keyboard, and stock Sense keyboard). All lagged. Restarting didn't resolve. The lag did not happen with other apps like GO SMS, Twitter, or Facebook. Nor did it happen on a couple other websites I tested on. I noticed when I turned off the vibration, or lowered the vibrate time, the lag lessened. I'm thinking it's an issue with memory or processing speed, but I have no idea how I would test or resolve something like that.
I'm running ARHD 6.1.5, only slightly OC'd.
Now that I think about it. It sounds like all 2.3.3 based roms have this bug, aosp or sense.

Multitouch problem

Hi!
I recently bought an O3D and I'm getting some multi-touch problems.
As you can see, when you tap 3 times with another finger already tapping, multi-touch goes totally wrong. This happens after unlock/lock screen sometimes, and if you tap 3 times again the problem disappears.
Video from other user.
Kernel problem? Is there any solution? This makes playing multi-touch games (Nova for example) really anoying or zooming in browser with two fingers.
So sad to see the behavior of your touch screen, cause when I do the same test on my O3D it recognize 8 fingers without any problems. Are you rooted? Did you try for example my ROM to see if it makes any difference?

Mine recognizes up to 10, but when this happens only recognizes one at time. If you tap three times the problem is gone until you tap 3 times again.
I've tried with custom roms (one of them is yours), rooted, etc.
i confirm the problem...but the games looks not to be affected by it...they works perfectly.Only with touch test i have the problem...very strange and i have your rom thiaiZ...any other experice of it?
I have the same problem...
I'm on CM7 nightly 32 (for the P925 because of the Baseband problems)
but it is a bit strange.. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt, i don't know why
I have similar problem.
When I play a game the touch screen with 1 finger is okay but when I play with 2 fingers it stops to recognize the both fingers.
So I have to walk and then stop and then aim and then fire which sucks.
I have the same problem. Is this problem related with hardware?
hi everyone,
i tested this too and i noticed a certain pattern. If i turn off my phone and then turn it on and then run the multitouch tester i will get the issue you described. However if i turn it off and then turn it on and then move my finger from the left of the screen to the right of the screen 3 times(on the homescreen) and then I run the multitouch tester the issue is gone and the touch screen works perfect afterwards. Its a very weird bug. can someone confirm this on their phone also. If a programmer can develop an app that imitates 3 swipes when the phone unlocks then this annoyance is fixed.
Multitouch problem-any permament solution?
Have anyone found a permament solution? The thing is annoying.Has anyone got hardware fixing solution to this problem?Maybe the flat cable (placed at power button)?I've noticed it after 5 months of use.I haven't tried it myself with any other optimus 3d device.Could anyone confirm not having a problem?Btw, I use 2.35 official, without root or any kind of mod. Please, help.

Yeah, I've noticed this problem too and your three swipe solution seems to work fine. I also realised that I don't need to be on the home screen for this to work. I swiped on the tester screen itself and multitouch resumes working.
Testing with Antutu Tester I can get 10 simultaneous touches. The hard thing is to make 10 fingers fit into the screen

Orientation problem in a particular app

Hey guys, I'm having a little problem running an app on my TF300. The apps name is practiscore and the problem is in the screen orientation. On some screens it's in landscape (which I want) and others, it's in portrait (which I don't). It does it consistantly in that the particular screens are always portrayed in the same orientation. I've tried two different roms (Cromi-x 5.04 - android 4.2.1 and Grimlock v2.2 - android 4.3) and it made no difference. I tried going into system settings and messing around with the orientation settings with no luck. I've run the program on other devices including a number of phones and a few rooted nooks and it never exhibited this behavior. Do you guys think the problem is in the app or something to do with the TF300? Anyone have any suggestions on a way I could force the app into Landscape mode all the time? (So I can use the keyboard dock.) Any help is greatly appreciated!

Touch screen sensitivity

Hello. I have an Nvidia Shield tablet k1 on lollipop 5.1.1. Everything is great about this tablet except the touch screen. It is really sensitive. Also, when I am scrolling, it "jumps" and goes faster than I actually scrolled. It scrolls faster than it should. I found this thread on xda. It helped a little with the being too sensitive issue, but scrolling is still really weird. This is my second device since the first one's micro sd card was defective. They both are like this. Is there anything I can do, or do I just have to deal with it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/general/adjust-touchscreen-sensitivity-t2963326
I was opening a thread with this exact same issue. I'm not on stock though (using the latest CM12 nightly), so I don't seem to have the 'Sensor Calibration' option.
Also the touchscreen seems to register a touch even when the finger is not touching the screen.
On the other hand, if I scroll a very small distance (like 0.5 centimetres) the list I'm scrolling doesn't move at all. This doesn't happen on other devices such as my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 and is very annoying in some cases (some games, or moving the cursor for keyboard input).
I'll try to record a video of this behaviour.
What can we do to fix this?
Update: found a video (not mine) showing the issue I'm talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08uPtusOJHQ
anyone else with this issue?
I also have this issue on/off sporadically on stock rom.
I'll be scrolling and itll jump back the opposite direction
Its like it looses track of the touch then catches it again.
It's irritating as my S5, Nexus 2012 have no problems scrolling smoothly.
I don't recall the original shield i tested in store to have this issue either.
Currently having amazon ship me a replacement to see if its just limited to the one I received. (QA issues)
Calibrating screen might fix the issues: go to About in settings and tap on model number until the calibration screen comes up. then hit calibrate. don't touch the screen then when it asks to reboot, reboot.

Did it fix the issue I posted the video about? I'm on Cyanogenmod now so I don't have the option to calibrate the screen, but I would consider going back to stock if it fixed this issue...
Calibration doesnt help at all , same issue at brand new k1. Nvidia says thats normal functionality lol
Yeah, very normal for a gaming tablet which would require precision...
Not trying to take up for this thing but I haven't had the first touch screen issue with it . so maybe not all is affected?? I've tried to replicate the issue but just can't everywhere I touch and slide is smooth
You mean it doesn't "jump" like the OP said? I don't seem to have that issue either.
I'm more concerned about the touchscreen's precision, as shown in the video.
