[Q] Recovery Password - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

When I boot into TWRP recovery, it prompts me for a password. The start-up password for my phone doesn't work. Does anyone know the default password? Thanks!

TWRP has passwords? By default it doesn't have a password just reflash the recovery to see if it will prompt you for a password.

Yes it opens but most functions "fail" error without the password. I've tried reflashing and still get the same result. The unlock password for my phone gets an "incorrect password" response. Any other ideas? Thanks!

I found some info on "why the password pop up" is due to something you flashed (rom/kernel)? that alter the partition on your sdcard or internal, which caused TWrP failed to read the data. I would recommend that you remove your sdcard then try to boot into twrp, if the issue still existed, then you may need to do a full backup, wipe data, and reflash your O/S. If anyone has any info feel free to chime in...

[Q] Factory reset did not remove encryption

So I am going to RMA my phone and I thought it would be a good idea to encrypt then factory reset. So I tried this and my phone boots up and all but it still asks for an decryption key.
What should I do?

Enter recovery, format data, reboot to bootloader, and re-install stock via fastboot.

Unsuccessful decryption

Okay, I'm not sure if this entirely the right place. Have updated to Viper 2.1.0. Rebooted my phone, as I do each morning. It came up with needing to to enter a decryption key, ie; my password. Did said & it failed saying that data is corrupt. TWRP can no longer read the data portion either. Therefore can't wipe it in TWRP.
Is there a way to format or wipe the data partition through either fastboot or adb?
Factory reset but your data will be gone.

Try this, Venom helped with it a while ago and it worked, you will just have to re activate smart lock in google setting.
TWRP-Advanced-File Browser.
Navigate to /data/system and delete the locksettings.db.
I got my phone back from HTC after repair my phone screen and they wiped my custom rom and recovery but still have unlocked bootloader and restore oreo 8.0.
I managed to re-install twrp and tried to install a customed rom and experienced the same "decryption unsuccessful". But there is no lockingsettiings.db in the folder.
I will later try this method and report.... been a frustrating day....

Flashed OxygenOS back and having some PIN issues

Well since I flashed the Unofficial version of LineageOS 15.1 earlier and then decided to flash back to OxygenOS, everything seems to be all good, except when I boot into the OS. I get prompted to enter my PIN and when I enter the RIGHT pin, it says it's incorrect. But I enter the same PIN to decrypt my data in TWRP. I factory reset the phone, still no luck. I'll try to find more ways to get back in but for now i'd take any help I could get.

You'll probably need to wipe everything to disable incorrect pin, including internal storage. If you flashed OOS without deleting lock screen, it makes the OS "forget" the correct pin.

Actually I wiped the ART/ Dalvik Cache, System, and Data and it didn't work. So what I didn't realize what I did wrong was keep the PIN over on Lineage so I flashed back to it, disabled the PIN, reflashed OxygenOS, and now it's PIN-free. But thank you for the help, it's really appreciated.

That would've been your avenue, had you not had a backup to restore to. Always remember to delete your lock screen before changing system to avoid the issue. Glad it's fixed.

what am i doing wrong (recovery help)

No matter what I do, no matter the process I try or how many times I start over, when I boot to recovery it asks for a password. I haven't set a password. I've reinstalled the recovery. I've formatted and started over. Everything goes well until a few days later and I boot into recovery and there it is again! Password! Uggghhhh what am I doing wrong???
So you can't access twrp at all? you get to password and that's it?
what twrp u using? u can ignore it, in twrp perform "format data", then reboot recovery to see if the password gone!

Are you running on stock os or custom os
If you are coming from stock to custom you need decrypt the phone or install encryption supported rom & recovery

unable to format data do to encryption

I hope I haven't bricked my phone, but I installed TWRP on my Mi 10 Pro. I never encrypted the data on the phone but every time i boot into recovery it asks for the pattern to decrypt data. I've tried to format the phone several times and I always get the error:
make_f2fs -g android/dev/block/sda34 121772027 && sload_f2fs -t/data/dev/block/sda34 process ended with ERROR: 255
Unable to wipe Data.
Unable to format to remove encryption.
I had set a pattern on the phone and that pattern doesn't work on TWRP and it no longer works to unlock phone.
All i want to do is be able to format data and start from scratch.
Any help would be appreciated.

I can't boot into system because it asks me for the pattern. The pattern I set doesn't work. I can boot into recovery (TWRP) and it also asks me for the pattern but I can cancel out of that and when I try to reformat I get the error that is in my original post. Somehow it is not able to reformat because it can't mount encrypted data partition.
