Hello! As of the review device of HTC One has a back button to map the menu key and remove the ugly black menu bar on the bottom of the screen. But the retail devices(at least on the germany variant) got that removed or broken. I have modded the Settings.apk of the HTC One to reenable back that option.
Please test as I don't have the device to test it on my own. A feedback would be great

Instructions:
1. Overwrite the old Settings.apk on /system/app.
2. Delete the dex file located on /data/dalvik-cache/[email protected]@[email protected]
3. Reboot device.
4. Check if it shows up on the "Display, gestures & buttons" menu on the settings.
Blinkfeed mod to disable/enable blinkfeed coming soon once I get my device.
*Waiting for handtec*
I've tested the replacement method and it doesn't work for me (O2 Germany Device).
Hi! When did you test it? I just made this awhile ago. The old version didnt work.
this morning. But i test the new version asap and give you feedback.
Make sure to backup then delete the original Settings.apk and yeah delete the dex file.
Almost forgot you need to reboot after.
No, didn't work. After replace and delete dex the settings didn't work complete. After reboot the settings are back without the back button option. hmm

Hello guys! Thanks for testing! And glad it worked lol! I decompiled again tried looking why it didn't work on Swoosh82 so I didn't get to see the replies at once. Anyways thanks @deagleone for confirming that it's working Was about to pull my hair off looking for the problem
And to those who are interested in using this to include in their ROM or whatever just go ahead no need to ask permission to me
Hi Riyal...
i think the Problem is the Kernel, if u replace sys apps using RootExplorer etc. after reboot they are replaced with the old ones...
Flash in recovery did the trick (systemui, framework, etc)
And once more thanks for spending your Hair :fingers-crossed:
Good job, very well done. Funny enough HTC has changed the method from 1.26 to 1.27, but old method did not work (but did on full 1.26 ROM). So they obviously had a different approach, before they ultimately removed it. So thx for bringing it back.

A kernel couldn't do that. And that's weird looks like HTC One has some rollback function on system apps? @[email protected]

I am not sure about the different versions. What I did was just download mike's ARHD and checked what things I can tinker with it.
Hi Guys
i've installed the mod in the recovery with the zip file.
Now i can't enter the setting anymore. Tried to push the apk manually, no success.
Maybe the problem is, that i use the original O2 firmware.
Hope you can help.

I am not sure about the firmware versions yet. But the Settings.apk came from mike's ARHD ROM. Perhaps if you guys can provide me with a O2 Settings.apk then I think I can make one for you devices.

It is the kernel, it was this way with my one x
Basically the kernel implements write protection on the system partition, so you write to it and nothing ever sticks. There are work arounds but one is a little risky and the other we just have to wait for kernel source

Ohh ok sorry never had a One Series device yet Wonder how they do that. For it to become replaceable but get's restored on boot it needs to store files on ram. But that's not the case. Hmmm HTC One got my interest more Can't wait to tinker with it's kernel :victory:

NOTE: THIS IS NO LONGER A ROM. IT IS PURELY A SCRIPT TO FLASH OVER ANOTHER CM9 BUILD WHICH WILL THEN STRIP IT TO BAREBONES. DONT FLASH THIS ON ITS OWN!!
Introducing Sharpy STRPT CM9. WARNING: Flashing this script will cause your CM9 build to become STRPT, this mean faster, more memory and better battery!
I realised i dont use many native apps, instead choosing to install my own apps from the market or other sources. This means all the native apps do is take up space on my device. If you are the same then maybe, just maybe, this script is the one for you!

Afetr flashing this script the resulting ROM is not meant to be used 'as is'. You should install your own versions of apps such as gallery and sms.
Features:
Fully stripped for more memory and speed
New boot animation
Its probably easier to list the things that are left rather than what ive removed!
Calendar
Camera
Clock
People
Phone (Dialer)
There's probably more that ive forgotten but ill update when i remember!

You can compile Cyanogen without the bit's you don't want
Just edit the .mk files in ~/android/system/build/target/product/ and remove the ones you don't want

functionality
would you please list what is working and what is not.
I do like the idea of a naked ROM, since most of stock apps i replace in the zip file before flashing on the phone.
since any OS is just a layer between the hardware and user applications, it would be nice to know that all hardware is working as expected.
particular questions about WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS lockup time, battery life
on GB I has posted question about WiFi connectivity - would be nice to compare it now
and btw calendar app might be removed as well - I like the alternative one.
love the idea of this rom. hope you keep updating as cm9 continues updating.
Love the idea too!
Before I flash ii, how can I
-get stock keyboard and remove current one?
-add music and gallery from CM9(do I need only apk's or I need some other libs ?)

Ill make some flashable zips containing original ime, cm9 music and cm9 gallery. To get rid of the keyboard currently in the rom either delete the Thumb_Keyboard_v1_5_1.apk from the zip, before you flash the rom, then flash it, then flash the standard ICS keyboard ill upload in a bit. The other way is to flash the standard ICS keyboard zip and then uninstall thumb keyboard using titanium.
Gallery, Music and original ICS keyboard flashable zips are now in post 2 under 'Add-ons'
To remove thumb keyboard use Titanium backup.

No problem. Let me know what you think of the rom!
I like this idea a lot so I figured I would try it out. My first negative is for some reason my home button does not work. It vibrates when I press it but it will not take me to the home screen or bring up the recent app list.
Other than that its great! Very speedy. I like the idea of being able to use my own apps.
EDIT: Also the lock screen doesnt work. Did you remove it?
Thats weird. My home button works perfectly as does the lockscreen. I take it you did a full wipe etc first?
Also check md5 of your download: V0.03 is 624644f5b063604bd3e6d7841c5b5b8c
Hello. Currently, it hides the "AT&T" in both the unexpanded and expended statusbar. I can make it so it appears in just the expanded statusbar or put something else in the expanded statusbar (may take a bit, but should be fairly quick).
I have some testers, so if they say all is good, I'll put up the DL link straightaway...
I am working on working CWM port now, so I am just going to post, as it seems to work. Have fun, and use at your own risk!!! I'll also have an installer up soon.
Oh, THIS IS FOR THE 1.82 RUU, I haven't tested on 1.73, but I can make it for that version, as well, and 1.85 when it's rooted...also, you need to be Deodexed!

Thanks for all of your hard work! You seem to be running about 4 projects at a time.
Hey, sk ...that Logo is not rom based...it's actually carrier based, It will display whatever carrier you are on..
For example, I'm on 1.82 att rom but it displays rogers, since i'm using rogers..
so when you changed to another network it will be the name of other network.
just want everyone to know, so they will not be that annoyed to have it.

Thanks for pointing this out. I just find it annoying/redundant, and it's not in the carrier free One X, so I got rid of it. Like I said, I can add it back to the expanded status bar if people need to know what network they are on (and it's still on your lockscreen).

Process:
1) Rename Old SystemUI.apk to SystemUI.apk.old
2) Move new SystemUI.apk to /system/app/ with Root Explorer
3) Set Permissions to rw-rw-rw
Success on Magnolia X. (On 1.82)
Just to let everyone know it re-set my wallpaper to the default ROM one, but of course this is easy, just re-select the one you want!

The wallpaper change happens any time you replace the systemui because when I was doing some theming of the apk it happened every time even when putting the original back. Just need to go into settings and reset it no biggy.

For your first custom ROM, I'd pick something a bit more modified than this. This is just a stock ROM.
Pick another such as a Team Nocturnal one, CleanROM, King Cobra etc. They have the extended quick settings, advanced power menu etc....mods that improve user experience ten fold.

Being stuck on 2.20 with no root is really starting to suck! This would be a great base. I assume one would need to keep the 2.20 (1.85) build prop to keep all the ATT stuff since this is German. I'm getting desperate for root like a crack head licking the floor for crumbs lmao.

Turge had to produce a 1.4.1 patch for his ROM to fix some FCs and also a Social-Network-Friendstream patch - so a few little gotchas with the ROM I guess. You could probably look at his patches to get a sense of the fixes.

sorry check r.cyanogenmod.org
Just checked two things:
- 'fix permissions' works
- the backup archives can still be opened by renaming .tar.a to .tar and easily be edited
This already makes some things easier. Let's see what else is in there...
edit:
- couldn't mount sdcard. Anybody else can confirm that (maybe a win driver problem)?
What about all the bugs the old one had like not being not able to turn the phone off, mount sd as mass storage and can it flash boot.img?

Tried turning it off and it don't stay off and can't mount sd as mass storage, so guessing it can't flash boot.img but not tested it.

YES, it's always good to have a working alternative! lol
And I'm glad to see sb working on it as it was that big thing of the first hours of android.

I'm considering switch to TWRP, it's the right time now because after JB out, I don't need any of my old ICS backups.

Plus 100.
Black wing Is a hell of a dev and I'm sure he will fix the broken stuff.
But as Darky said there's features in twrp like flagging boot that cwm can't do. Maybe more time will tell.
Either way, there's a new dev here for y'all.

UPDATE
1 or 3 things are fixed, Clockworkmod Poweroff no longer exist blame koush for that , SD mas storage dont work for the moment, but now you can flash boot.img in recovery w/o any kind of problems.
please repor any problems so i can track them down and fix them.
enjoy
P.D.
THIS IS AN ALTERNATIVE RECOVERY SO IF YOU DONT LIKE IT OR WHATEVER, PLEASE DONT FLAME THE THREAD OF UNNECESARY COMENTS
YES!
I love CWM and it sucked that it had some bugs but I always new it's limitations and never tried TWRP. Not hating on it just felt since I paid for CWM back in the myTouch 3G/4G days I wouldn't abandon it unless it was completely useless[which its not].
So are you working directly with Koush or are you just fixing what you can to make it function better?
Also, when I downloaded from your link it wasn't a zip, just the disc image.. OP says extract but I'm guessing that's not the case.
either way, gracias!

See told you people wanted a fixed one.
Ya it should end as .img just like boot.img.
threw this together for myself and thought I would share it here. also has blue center clock. battery meter should be fixed back to 1% mod let me know if it isn't
(for the sense 5 roms that were ported doesn't work for the current roms)

please help?
Hi there, 1st off, thanks for your work. But I'm kind of a noob and think I messed up the install of this. I installed the zip with TWRP and now when my phone boots it says "unfortunately, system UI has stopped". Is there any way to reverse this procedure and return my phone to how it was before I tried installing this? Also, I guess I'd like to know the correct procedure to install this. Sorry about this, just kind of stuck. Thanks!

If you want to go back to the way it was just dirty flash whatever ROM you're running.
Dirty flash = flash without wipe.

No problems. If you ever run into an issue with a mod, just dirty flash the ROM again and it should fix it right up.

correct way to install?
So, sorry to ask, but what is the correct procedure for installing this? I love the looks of it. Not sure if this is useful information but I have TWRP & the ROM I'm using is CleanROM 7.0.P1
Thanks!

I'm not on a Sense 5 ROM right now so I can't test it, but I've just downloaded the zip and taken a look at it and the correct way to install it is through recovery. Wipe cache and dalvik cache.
If you're using any other mods in conjunction it's possible that they're conflicting. What version of TWRP are you on?

thanks again for trying to help timmaaa! Yeah the only other mod I installed was "Minor Tiles" which was in the posting for CleanRom but since I did a dirty flash of CleanRom I suppose that Minor Tiles mod is gone? I wasn't even sure what the F that was.. My version of TWRP is 2.3.3.0
All I did was flashed the zip from within TWRP and it went bonkers...hahaha. Just didn't know if I was supposed to unzip this file and do something with the individual files

This mod won't work as it was based on 4.1.2 for the ported roms we had before the official HTC release of 4.2.2 and clean Rom is 4.2.2 so completely different system UI.

Thanks for clearing that up, I should have looked at the date on the OP. And the screenshot for that matter. Facepalm.
