Multi-messenger app? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Themes and Apps

Is there a messenger app that connects to various chat clients, sits down in the systems bar until you are in an active conversation then you get a small popup? Similar to how Text+ is where you can have a texting conversation without the window taking up very much of your screens real estate allowing you to easily multi-task? Obviously I would like demo version before I buy. Even apps that are "only" a couple USD add up to a lot if you have to pay for numerous ones to find the one that fits your needs. TIA

Really hard to say, because everyone prefers another app. I liked trillian.
Maybe some new multi-mess-apps are out there, I do not know yet.

@nadmaj @47kt Thank you both. I will check things more.
I have never heard of LilyPad so I will read about that and check out that link.
I use Trillian on my laptop. It takes up a lot of real estate on my table unless there is a setting I haven't found. Again thank you both.

I'm using im+

@planetf1 I have tried im+ but again it seems to take up a lot of screen real estate unless there is a setting I haven't found. LilyPad is looking good so far. I'm hopeful it will do what I need. Thanks for your in put.

[REQUEST] Black Book

What I'm asking for is a program that acts as your digital Black Book for meeting girls. When I've met them, how many times we've slept together, hide private photos, videos, online backup etc.
It would be awesome if there was an ability to store photos and videos for the specific contact as well. First time I encountered a really good version of an app like this was the "My Little Black Book" for iPhone. I've been searching the net for over an hour now and can't find any app that's even close to that one for the Android platform.
The one for the iPhone is located here: http://saltlicklabs.com/products/little-black-book/
A similar app like that would be awesome.
Things that would be great to include:
Ordinary info
Name, number, e-mail and every other info that's inside the usual contact. Would be awesome if you could import from contact list, link to contact list or something like that
Photos/Videos
Import pictures from the photo library to a specific girl/boy and at the same time hide/delete them from the ordinary library so they can't be accessed without using the application. Comments and ratings of pictures would also be great!
Additional information
First date we met.
What's her/his favorite color, food, movie etc.
How many times have we met?
How many time have we slept together?
Hm, maybe this section should be customisable? The user adds his or her own informations fields based on text input like the above "questions" and then he or she can edit the numbers and text when things update. This way the information you can put on a date/person is infinite!
Custom lock code <-- VERY IMPORTANT!
Secure SMS and MMS inside the application. Threaded or non threaded view with MMS support. Be able to save MMS atachements to application secure media library.
Backup to online dump site like dropbox or FTP.
Also, would be great to be able to export data and pictures in a way that makes it look pretty nice. Word, Excel, HTML or whatever. Import functions for the exported data.
I think it's sad that no one have developed an app like this
If there is any developer that thinks that this is a great idea, I will gladly help out as much as I can with photoshop, tips, ideas, layout and everything else that's not related to programming.
I think this is a kind of app that will be very useful for many boys and girls around the globe
I'm eager to read your opinions!
Best Regards
Mistwalker

No offence... but I think it's pretty sad that you want this. I mean, I can understand what you want, but do you really need to keep a tally on your phone? Most people would just take satisfaction from the use of their time rather than counting it. It seems like you want to over geekify a quite pleasurable experience... Anyhoo, each to their own, I'm not judging
Secondly (the helpful bit), there are apps to hide folders/sms/files etc (a search on the market will return multiple apps) with a password or PIN. Could you use one of them instead? Maybe not the ideal solution for you, but at least you could hide those 'personal' pictures and texts

Doesn't really matter why he wants it, but I think and a Black Book app would just be convenient rather than have a lock on your photos and your sms and your file explorer. Also that could appear a bit fishy if were to have a wife/girlfriend. lol I would like to see an app like this as well...

Haha, yeah. You could. But it's not that convenient to do. It's easier to keep track of everything in one app
And by the way, it can be used for more than just that. For example, me and my friends, well. They have a pretty messed up way of what they think is fun. For example, they think it's awesome to take pictures and videos of when you do embarrassing things, when you fall asleep waaaay to drunk etc etc. We pretty much ends up with priceless pictures all the time With an app like this, it would be very easy for me to keep track of every funny thing someone have ever done So there are more usefullness than just the girls Or boys if you're a girl

Chat apps on the transformer

How do apps like Trillian and GTalk look on the transformer? Do they shoot into full screen or actually bring up chat windows more like a laptop...One of my deciding factors in purchasing a tablet. iPad is simply brutal with chat because you have to have it full screen.
Thanks!

What about the native GTalk?
all app will run full screen...I guess it's the built of honeycomb, but there is the multi-task switching. I love to use Gtalk as it can do video chat over 3G even with a PC with webcam. Video and sound are not bad @ all . I uses it for more than 1 hour over 3G connection without issue. Now all I need it a good Bluetooth headset.
I bought my Tablet primarily for chatting on IM at work and surfing the web since my work is starting to monitor everything on it's network. I've tried Trillian but I kept having issues where the notification sound wouldn't go off. It went off about 50% of the time so I had to keep checking the notification area to see if I got a message.
I'm using eBuddy now and it works great. The notification sound does not go off when I'm on the chat screen with a person but as soon as I switch to a different chat window or go to a different app the sound notification will sound off when I get a message.
Both applications do take up the entire screen and that just seems to be an Android thing. The only down side to eBuddy that I can see is that you cannot customize the chat window so what you see is what you get, you cannot change the color or chat bubble style. I'm not sure if you can customize Trillian, I switched before even looking into it.

New Facebook app

Is anyone else not seeing the new Facebook app in the market? Or when you to the online market, it says compatible with TF?
EEE Pad Transformer sent this
The 1.6? For all the previous excitement it's not very amazing.
It comes up as not compatible with Asus Transformer. (Maybe a tablet version planned at some point?)
I'll probably just Dropbox it and install it anyway.
Yup, they've removed tablet support. It's basically a downgrade, and it wasn't a very good app in the first place. It lacked even basic functionality from the website, such as the ability to ignore posts from "friends" [eg. bands, products, etc.] that you've ignored on the website. There's no mention of that being fixed in this release anyway, so no big loss -- the app's nearly unusable in its current state, as my friends' posts are hidden in a huge wall of advertising from all the pages I'm a fan of (but don't really want to read the ads from).
yes....the FB app sucks.
Try the alternative app written by a member on XDA here...its' called "Friend Me" and it's really nice.

I've been using Friendme and FriendCaster and they work just fine. Though you might as well use the browser based version anyway. For me the only real use of the app is to integrate it with your contact list and to get desktop notifications. None of these apps do this. I'd like to see facebook integration to the level of where HTC Sense is. Love the notifications on my phone and the contact integration. I miss that when not using my phone. But hey, nothing is perfect.
My sole concern with these third-party apps is that it'd be very easy to make one that works just fine, but also phones home with your username and password. There's no way to audit code and confirm it doesn't do so (and even if there was, I'm not a programmer and would have to rely on somebody else's opinion).
That said, for those who are happy to trust such things, it's great that somebody's making options -- Facebook's own one totally sucks.
Attached Facebook 1.6 taken from my phone... works just like the old version on our TF (still lame, but it has notifications lol).
same here I can get to the Download page on the Market, but it wont download at all!! you can access it thru a direct link or qr code
app is better but there's no option to view your friends photo
I find how Developers blacklist certain phones being overused to much. Clearly the Facebook app runs on tablets and works, so why they would blacklist it is beyond me. All it does is limit their users. If it runs and works don't blacklist it is incompatible.
Same thing has happened to Words with Friends -- granted, it doesn't scale perfectly to a tablet screen, but it's passable. Not sure if my installed version will even receive updates, so I just update on my Evo and the BT File Transfer the app over to my TF.

It's being speculated that Facebook blacklisted all honeycomb devices because they will have a tablet version out soon - considering how slow and lame the development has been on the phone version, a tablet version seems very unlikely, but who knows?!

Has anyone noticed that third-party facebook apps, like Friendcaster and FriendMe don't show all the posts that Facebook.com and the official Facebook app do? I was blown away when I visited Facebook.com to see how many posts and pictures were up that never showed on FriendCaster. It's like it blocked 30% of my friends wall messages

Why not just use your browser to get to facebook? The TF is large enough for you to view facebook as if you were using a laptop.

The same reason why we use a gmail app for getting mail, or a twitter app for tweets - apps are more convenient and offer OS integration. Of course, if they only provide some functions of the full site, they are less useful

Pictures have leaked of the tablet version running on WebOS, so I would assume that an Android version wouldn't be too far behind.

[New App] AirDroid Lets Your Desktop Control Your Android Phone Over WiFi

For those who spend a lot of time looking at a computer, and can't be bothered to look at their phone very often, Sand Studio has introduced AirDroid, an app that allows users to control their Android Phone from a computer via WiFi.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WfNnQxpw7Uw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfXRhSIm-m0
The great thing about AirDroid is that it works - it's easy to start up, and functions flawlessly (in my experience). The interface is also very polished - mimicking a desktop launcher complete with moveable icons, a task bar, and controls that allow you to do just about anything.
One of the most impressive features is the ability to access SMS messages, manage them, and send messages right from a web browser. Users can also manage contacts, uninstall/backup apps (AirDroid will download your apps as apk files), browse files, access the Android Market, and manage music and ringtones, in addition to the ability to look at phone information from CPU status to battery level and beyond.
Best of all, AirDroid is completely free from the Android Market. With all the powerful features it offers, this app is certainly worth checking out.

edit: just installed the app..sometimes the app makes the phone go crazy!! i have to logout fro the browser or turn off wifi for the phone to become normal.
This is without a doubt 'the best' app for controlling your phone from your browser. I've installed and played with many and this one tops the lot in my opinion.
It's clean, easy to use, great interface (both on the phone and PC).
Side note: This thread would probably be much better off in General Android Apps and Themes forum - http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=530. The app isn't specific an LG Optimus.

I'm a little hesitant to try out apps like this as well but they have nothing but good feedback on the market and a good following on both Facebook and Google+, as well as having their own website, so I was happy to give it ago.
@smackdownn Yeah I am with you on the whatsapp, this app is brilliant.
@Nucleotide & SpyderTracks Seriously? Whats the issue with privacy? Scared these devs are going to email or sms your gf while you are out? Either that or learn to hide your porn somewhere that is not your phone. I have said this before on so many occasions, when you were using a nokia/winmo/other NON android phone, they sneakily NEVER asked for permissions, but you installed apps that could pretty much do anything on your phone anyway
This app is by far the best solution I have tried in this regard, it just works and damn well too
@Cornelha
Lol.... I get what you're saying, but I think it's a little naive... the information we hold on smartphones these days compared to "our old nokias" means security is vital. After years of dodgy torrents, malware and hacked accounts, I've learnt to take it a bit more seriously, albeit probably to the extreme

I agree. I don't have anything I would call "sensitive data" on my phone but I do have a lot of contact information such as names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and other information which although not really sensitive, I still don't want other people to have - especially if I don't know about it. Not only that but apps can track your location, the buttons you press on your phone, numbers dialed, text messages sent, websites you visited, and the list goes on.
With that in mind I take caution when installing any app. I check for things like the amount of reviews on the market, the quality of the reviews (good vs. bad), does the developer have a website, a Facebook page with a good following, and so on.

You don't need to install on the PC. You just need to open the browser and visit web.airdroid.com to log in. Then you can manage you phone on the web. Easy, right?

What features does the SW2 have ?

I'm going to be using it for my nexus 5 and I'm just trying to look for a detailed list of what it can do ? I don't want to buy it for the fun to wear out later.
I tried searching on Google and watched some reviews but I wasnt too satisfied.
I was just wondering about music controls, text reply, writing new texts, calls, Facebook and apps like XDA and CNET and engadget.
Also does it lag frequently ?

Functionalities are countless
You can do lots of things since there are lots of apps avalaible.
Of course, you can see notifications from twitter and Facebook, you can like/favorite, share/retweet and watch the live. You can't write tweets, comments, upgrade your status. With the official app, you can see your text messages, answer with predefined messages or smileys. With a special app like SMS writer (if I recall correctly) you are able to write text messages (ABC AÀÁ 123 keyboard) and send it to any contact you have... and for telephone, well, you are just able to dial a number and that's it (but I've read "call handling" app enables you to activate the speaker and some other functions)
You can control your music with both official and 3rd party apps but that remains simple commands : volume up and down, play pause, skip, next, you won't browse from an album to another one.
I've never heard anything about xda and cnet apps but if you just wanna keep on eye on the news, there's a an app that collects your RSS feeds, basic, simple.
I've only had lags in SMS writer app, but anyway, you can reboot the device simply by pushing the power button for 10 seconds and it will reconnect automatically to your phone via Bluetooth. That being said, sometimes, Bluetooth connection is slow and you can't open apps that have to be connected to your phone (some apps really need connection otherwise it just won't open).
Also, keep in mind that you are not buying a real "Smartwatch". Personally, I think a Smartwatch shouldn't need Bluetooth connection to your phone. Actually, you are buying a watch with some special features, a watch "+++" if you see what I mean. And at that cost, 130$ for a watch that can do more than any other watches, it's a bargain...
I do have my Smartwatch 2 on my wrist, if you need any further information, I'm here!
You won't have Facebook app, xda app, etc. That's not what its for. You get notifications on it, that's basically it. If you're creative with tasker or widgets (with remote widget) you can use the watch to control a few things, but its not a good input device (yet?). Anything you want to read on the watch needs to be packaged up and sent via notification from the phone.

Check my Thread here which has the answers to all your questions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2743194
The lag of the original firmware has gotten a lot better with the latest firmware. There's still some on certain apps, but overall it's not much of an issue.
Regarding the lag, I've heard there are hardly any issues apart from the occasional app. It's much better than the previous and you'll experience hardly any lag compared to the SW1. This is what I've heard, but the information came from trustworthy sources so you can trust what has been said.
