On the home page add a custom shortcut, click "pick your activity" and select "launcher actions". Your defined groups are in that list. You can have them as popups or they can open the app drawer.

It's hard to invert the stock mms.apk. I mean you can but there will be side effects for other stock apps for example you make them black in mms.apk there will be distortion from colors on people.apk
just use another app or use the mms.apk from the link posted above or something similar.
