[Q] HELP! - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

ok i have a samsung galaxy stellar / sch-1200 from verizon, cant find a forum on it so i figured this would be closest hopefully.....
it reads internal storage as "sdcard01" and i also have an 8gb external sd card. the phone itself does not have an option to move app 2 sd card in the application manager.
ive tried app's via the playstore and still no avail. app2sd and others..
my question is.. is there an option somewhere in the phone that i cannot seem to find or a way to get it to default save items/pics/mp3s/ect to the actual sd card??
ive looked all over to try to find out some similar problems and cant seem to find any info besides actually swapping the external to internal and vice versa using ADB.... i do not have this phone rooted and wont until warranty is up. if anyone could point me in the right direction or inform me on how to change the storage settings id really appreciate it.
thanks in advance.

Wrong phone and carrier... at least you got the Samsung part.
Edit: read the phone and posted. Sorry

no not yet.. i will be rooting it in the next couple months but as of right now its not unforunately. its like the phone doesnt even recognize the sd card it in even though it is mounted and reads pictures and music that i manually put on there. but the application manager doesnt even have an option to "move to sd"

I don't know. Maybe it is mounting as read only. That is what happens on the xoom

shouldnt be.. i can move individual files that i have downloaded, its the weirdest things ive ever came across..
my og droid was rooted and my htc inspire, they both even before rooting had the option to move apps to the sd card. the phone has 2gbs of internal space so its not like its worse than the previous just blows my mind and i have no idea how i could maybe change it to having the external card being the primary storage. under Astro it says there are 2 sd cards... i know its thinking that the internal storage is the first/primary card. just dunno how to get it to switch over i guess..
thats the best way i can think to describe the situation..

For moving pics and music and such I would think a file browser like es file explorer or something would let you move from one storage to the other. I dunno that you would need root access for that. But apps are a different story.

yea the file parts im not real worried about. i am able to move them and everything.
i might be not able to really explain it the way im wanting to. its reading like there are 2 sd cards when there is only one in the phone. so the primary storage is to the internal (fake sd card) so it wont move apps to the sd card to free up internal space. thats my assumption anyway. so i thought there might be a way to change the primary storage but i havent found a way to. if that makes sense.

yeah there are external2internal swaps or whatever but I'm pretty sure you're gonna need root and custom recovery to do anything like that.

So I'm rooted now....

But I haven't used it to do anything with....
I tried doing the sd card fix but for some reason I can't partition the card while still in my phone...
What else can/should I do?

Seriously? Just browse, you don't even have to do a search, through the forums and find more out on what you can do while rooted, and if you are having problems with a specific topic, go find the thread for it and post there.

Now you can download third party apps by sideloading and you can also remove the at&t market restrictions. You can also use the app shootme, which can take a pic of your screen, similar to the iphone. Not sure what other apps require rooting.

Cyanogen and SD card

Hi. I just installed CM 7.1 on my G2x and for some reason it's not detecting the internal SD card. Is there some thing I need to do to fix this?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
It's at /mnt/ennc
Weird place for it IMO, but I'm sure there's a way to change it.
Aha. So it is. Unfortunately apps like the gallery and camera are saying I have no SD card. Is there a way to mount it so it's detected properly?

Yes there is. CM7 has a setting for swapping the mount points of the internal and external sdcards. I am not running cm7 currently though and can't remember where the setting is. After you change the setting, reboot for everything to mount properly. Ask over in the cm7 thread where the setting is or hopefully someone else will comment here.
The other solution would be to get an external sdcard for your phone. In my opinion that's the better solution but it also costs money so ...
Thanks for the replies. For right now I restored the stock ROM. There were a few things I didn't like about CM but I'll probably flash it again when I have more free time to mess with it.

[Q] Micro SD Card question

so my phone deleted everything off of my sdcard and you know how your pics and everything is litterly like your world or life. how can i restore all my files? or am i totally f'ed?
i was also wondering is there something for your phone like how your computer can be restored to a date before. is there a way or program to do this to your phone and micro SD memory card??
please help me i really dont wanna have to redo everything on my sdcard again):
If the card was wiped its gone and I don't think the phone makes restore points like a computer does. Best you can do is back up your rom periodically but that wont bring back the SD card data.

I'm not sure how your phone would've done that; that usually requires a deliberate action. Unless you somehow converted the filesystem on the sdcard, it should be a VFAT filesystem. Basically the filesystem from Windows 95, 98, ME, etc. I can't think of an easy way to recover that. There might be a tool out there to do it.
Hopefully someone else has a better answer.

Ouch. I'm afraid the data's probably lost, man. If it partitioned the card it probably wrote a new partition table. There might be some file recovery utilities you can run from Windows to try and recover the files but I don't know how successful they would be.
I thought I read somewhere there was an app to retrieve old deleted data from a sd card somewhere in these sgs4g forums. a guy did almost the same thing and said he got most of it back, try searching some key words

Given that it got re-partitioned, though....
Unless you do a Full Format, or fill the card with new files, most of the time when stuff deletes, the index information is removed or something like that, and it's just invisible, until it's overwritten. So if you can find a recovery program it should be able to find the data. Last time I looked there weren't many free ones, but it's worth a google search.
I agree with goddi2010. I also remember reading that one of our members had a similar problem and was able to recover lost data. He even mentions what he did/used to recover the data.
Somewhere in our forum the help you need is there. Good luck searching and when you find the info please let us know how it worked out for you...
Sorry I can't be more specific.
I just used the program Recuva ( it's free ). Install it on your computer and plug your phone in or put the card in a reader then run Recuva and select the quick scan and it will bring up everything that has been deleted and it will tell you if it can recover it or not. It has work for me multiple times.

[Q] partition sd card

sorry for noob post but i havnt been able to understand all this with all the posts iv read
Iv been looking into installing apps on the external sd card and i came across "partitioning sd card" and a whole bunch of other vocabulary, so iv got a couple of questions.
1. can someone explain to me the basics of this?
2. define ext2, ext3, ext4, fat32, swap size, (there might be a bit more i jsut cant think of any right now)
3. do u reccomend doing this with cwm? iv come across a few posts where people have been saying thing could brick your phone
4. apperntly cwm has some built in partition? i dont really know..
5. how would I do this this with cwm?
Boot into recovery and look for partition sd option, follow instructions.

thanks but is it safe? and what do i put for each option?
Make sure you backup your sdcard before you partition or you'll lose your important files.

EXT4 is the file system (like FAT or NTFS but for Linux based). Swap is the partition used sort of like ram (just slower) in the way that temporary files are stored there for quick access.

I think people mentioned to do it through clockword mod? I think I've seen an option down there.
I have no idea why you'd want to, though. I can't really see any benefit and it would only complicate things.
Only reason to partition sdcard to have an ext partition is for people like me that have way too many apps to install that normally wouldn't fit on the g2x's internal storage. Even putting apps to SD wouldn't allow my setup of over 600 apps to my phone without an app called link2sd, currently rocking a 12gb ext3 partition on my 32gb class 10 Lexar sdcard. Call me crazy but I love having all my apps available any time I need, my phone is a beast I tell ya, with all the stress I put in it its still blazingly quick!

CWM ExtSDcard support?

Is there any way on the gs3 to save your nandroids to the ext SD card?
Mine shows the option greyed out.

If you booted into CWM using the EZ Recovery app then you would notice that you can manually save backups to either sd card.

It might also be that you don't have your external card formatted to fat32. CWM doesn't like the exFat format that I believe all big cards come in.

If your talking about rom manager then yea thats normal!
On a side note, I recomend flashing files manually in CWM recovery...you would not believe how many threads I have helped folks get out of a softbrick or bootloop situation by flashing with rom manager. The app works great, but you still need to know the background information on what your flashing! To many people think since they can pull the file up on RM, it must be compatible, or they flash with the wrong recovery = soft brick! Part of the main reason my guide is written in its fashion...provides proper instructions to flash, makes one read a bit, and repeats its self to pound the info into ones head. Not tryin to preach to ya, just wanted to share some possibly useful info to yourself and others. thx
I was wondering the same about saving to external from rom manager. So our only option it looks like is to boot to recovery and manually go to save it to the external sd?
