Basically, it's a convenience device, and don't need a MHL cable for XZ to share its screen.
Both play photo and video are quite smooth, but has around 0.5 sec delay.
Con
Not good for gaming
Not able to use WIFI at the same time, except 3G

Thanks for sharing. Can you turn the phone into landscape? And play videos and stuff?
As an FYI, this device will NOT work with CM10.1's built-in Miracast streaming on any device except for the Nexus 4.
My own personal experiences with Miracast, prior to receiving the Z (haven't played with the Z yet in this regard...):
https://plus.google.com/101093310520661581786/posts/bWVtgq78aRv
I encountered problems since the 4.2.2 update. i have black bars around the screen and the performance is poor. never had these issues with 4.1.2-er firmwares.

it depends what video (resolution and most important bitrate). Standards from YT are played OK but if I play my recordings from TV (FHD at 10m bps) these are lagging all the time. More over if source video is interlaced (i'm still talking about FHD) then resulting picture from this device is one big disaster.
Does anyone know if Sony are looking at resolving this ridiculous situation of it disconnecting the wireless internet connection when mirroring ? Possibly with a firmware update .
Whats the point if you can't mirror live stuff from the internet?

I also have PTV3000 before I have XZ.
My PTV3000 has latest firmware which is 2.2.16.
I tried mirror display and it worked right away.
You can turn the phone into either portrait or landscape, and the TV will show exactly the same.
There is one issue I want to find out is display of phone on TV is a bit oversize.
This issue can be fixed with WiDi on PC, but I couldn't find any similar setting on the phone.

Exactly. You can only mirror stuff that does not need an internet connection. My Samsung S3 can Mirror and use Internet access. I really need to understand what is causing this:
- Is it some stupid hardware limitation
- Is it a bad implementation of the solution in the current build of the Tablet Z Android OS
- IS THIS GOIING TO BE RESOLVED IN A FUTURE UPDATE
Screen mirroring was one of the reasons I bought this Tablet and if it can't do PROPERLY then it then time to get rid of Sony products and stick with Samsung products that can do it properly.
Currently on Android 4.1.2.OS 10.1.C.0.370

First, PTV3000 is a WiDi adapter which enables you to use TV as a wireless display for your WiDi ready computers. However, it also supports Miracast for smart devices such as smartphones or tablets.
Since it is an external display, you can see whatever you have on your computer or mobile devices.
Sent from my C6606 using Tapatalk 2
thank you, I know all that! I want to know is if I can use interent for duplicating screen!
I've had no end of grief with Miracast but last night I got an update for my LG TV and, for the first time in months, my Xperia Z connected.
Once you connect, WiFi is disabled and you must either go without data, or use mobile data. It's not ideal at all and annoying, but I'm not sure if my Tablet Z also does this (if it does, great, it doesn't even have mobile data as an option on mine!) or the Nexus 4 that I've never tried to connect to my TV.
I've no longer got access to an HTC One or SGS4.
Personally, I prefer MHL (which also charges the phone) and there's less of a delay and you can still use a BT keyboard, mouse, trackpad or PS3 controller.
Didn't want to start a new thread just to talk about other miracast adapters so I'm going to post here.
Is it just me or did sony improve miracast performance with this update?
Currently I'm using Chinese miracast dongle running realtek CPU and it works without problems on my XZ. With recent update it seems like they have improved the performance cause now I can play 1080p BRrip very smoothly, although now 100% smooth but with synchronised audio and video. Before the update it wasn't possible. Will report how it works more thoroughly in few days.
One thing I can't stand just like the rest of you is the fact that it disables internet connection to use miracast. Hopefully they'll finally fix this with 4.3 or 5.0. BTW, does anybody know if they did any improvements to the miracast in 4.3? Hopefully it can be improved to achieve fool smoothness, cause lag is something that can be fixed only on the dongle/adapter.

Hello, can you give me the reference of your Miracast key? I'm looking for an alternative to Netgear PTV 3000.
thank you very much
I bought this one http://www.adomax.com/en_2x.asp?lmid=2&id=160&pid=33&sid=0 but it can be found under different brands, still can't figure out whose the real manufacturer
One think that I don't like about this particular dongle is that by default it launches in dlna mode and to use miracast I have to manually change the mode.
Apart from that I'm really enjoying this device.

I think the original poster could be referring to WiFi Display as in projecting the display of the tablet onto a TV or other video source but not limited to things like Netflix or Youtube. I recently flashed a new rom on my T-Mobile sgll and under display in the settings there is one to turn on WiFi Display. Without a smart TV I can't test out the function to see what it does but I assume this is the function they are talking about. For about 2 weeks I have been searching for a way to mirror my complete tablet display through a wireless means but can't find one. Seems until miracast becomes more widespread Android devices will need to connect with devices through a hdmi cable to get that type of function. That is one function Android loses to Apple with their Airplay or whatever it's called.
Anyone know of a work around or try any of the higher end routers/media boxes that claim to allow this? Even if miracast was used more, the Tf700 doesn't have the 5ghz wifi reception that the universal standards are based on.
I have an LG LM7600 smart TV with the option of widi. But I have never been able to make it work between my 700 and the TV. They connect but that's about all I see happen.
Okay, so instead of hijacking the ARUnchained app I decided to create a troubleshooting thread for fellow Pioneer 4000NEX owners to get their phones to connect with basic App Radio and ARUnchained.
In your replies please try to include the following of your phone
Model Number:
OS Version:
Kernel:
Type of MHL cable used & WHERE you purchased it ( I think this is a big issue as well that I have read on many forums lots of bogus connectors)
My setup is the following and these are my Phone specs:
Galaxy Nexus (Roger Canada)
Android Version 4.3.1
Cyanogen mod 10.2.1-maguro
Kernel - 3.0.101 Franco Kernel Knightly
Here is my Car Start Up Procedure.
I make sure BlueTooth is on my Nexus.
I start ARUnchained
Turn my car on and make sure the BT is connected for phone calls.
I plug in my MHL Cable (MonoPrice MHL adapter)
I hit the Home button to go to the layout to bring up which source you want to choose and I make sure i see the HDMI lit up
I can see that my apps button on the touch screen is available
I got into the apps with mirroring automatically.
I hit back or exit button on my touch screen of the deck to exit out of appradio and it goes to mirroring.
This worked for 2 days but all off a sudden I am getting the Red X and the pointy finger. For No reason. So now when I leave work I will try rebooting my phone and trying that again.
I don't think this phone has KNOX.
Please Help!!

Did you ever find a solution to the problem?
I am running...
Model Number: SPH-L900 (galaxy note 2)
OS Version: 4.4.2
Kernel: 3.0.31-1561791
Cable>> CableMatters MHL converter from Amazon (Thinking this could be the main problem)
The only mods done to this stock note 2 from Sprint are: rooted and disabled KNOX. I initially had a bt connectivity problem, where after running aru and attempting to connect it would just show disconnected after about 10 seconds.
I somehow got this solved after multiple reboots and permission fixes through rom manager. I was also having the same problem you are having now with aru giving me the proverbial finger. The fix permission and reboots also solved this problem.
The problem I am having now, is the touch functionality is not working on my HU. The bt stays connected, rotation works, and everything mirrors smooth, but I have to use my actual phone. It let me calibrate the screen during the initial setup, but when I double tap mode the only thing that changes is the toolbar to the left goes away. Touching the display on HDMI mode only activates the HUs normal functionality (down arrow in top left corner to change input, etc.)
Have you or anyone else had this problem? Do you have any ideas on what might be causing this? I've been at this for some time now an getting pretty damn frustrated.
Thanks in advance!

Huzzah I figured it out!!
Okay here is the issue. My phone already had AppUnchained running in the background in a sleep function. See that little icon next to my phone missed called? Thats the BT function waiting in AppRadio. This means that as I hooked up my phone. AppRadioUnchaine was already running.
Notice how my functions on the right side are greyed out? That's when you get the Red Finger of X.

Here is my Screen Mirroring but look.....Greyed out menu on the left Meaning again Red Finger of X
Here it is running in the background on my phone as well..in the background
Here is what I did :-
I put it in Hibernate using Greenify.
Then I fire up ARU and hit the Home Button and looky here, My HDMI is lit up and my APPS is hilighted now meaning it can run Apps off the phone
I Hit Apps in the Head Unit and volia No Red Finger and I know that because the Left menus is now available.
I exit the App on the HU touchscreen. And Voila full touch screen controlling my phone. You know you will NOT get the Red Finger of X because the Left Menu is now touchable.
Any question ask away. But I think this is the issue. APU not closing properly. Seems that the HU Likes it only on a fresh new instance of ARUnchained. otherwise Red Finger of X. Remember , You might have to unplug your phone a couple of times for ARUnchained to start up and detect it. It's something to do with the MHL Cables.
I forgot to mention on this unit that you have to set the function of AV Input to OFF, or else you will get a side menu on the left (even with screen mirrored) every time you attempt to touch the screen. Also Clicking on the HDMI just tells the HU "Go Show me whats being displayed" and every time you go to touch it, you will get a AV input overlay which is useless.
You have to get it to be in Apps mode for your touch and screen mirroring to work.
I've found that all you need to do to get the touch working... is plug in your phone first and THEN connect your bluetooth. Then touch works fine every time. You don't need to keep restarting ARU.
Also, anyone know a way to get rid of the left side menu so the phone mirroring and touch is full screen?

I tried this and had no luck. The 4000NEX starts to demand a BT or HDMI Source. When I say HDMI source it goes a mirrored screen in with an AV output overlay which is not available to touch control.
I retried my method this morning, Made sure ARU is in Hibernated states. Hooked up my phone to the deck via BT and then plugged in my phone to the MHL cable.
I hit the home button, then went to the Apps touch button on the HU and voila full mirroring with touch control and no Red Finger of X.
This could be something to do with my Nexus (2011 Model) and this deck but it is confirmed working with these steps.

Greyed out HDMI
I have the Avh 4000nex. Everything works well with the system. The only problem I'm having is that the HDMI sign is greyed out whenever I plug in a HDMI cable. I've tried 4 different HDMI cables all high speed but it won't connect with my phone at all. I have the Galaxy Note 2. I do have a pioneer bypass installed but it works fine. What can be the problem?
Hi all,
Today my AVH-4000NEX got installed and I came across this thread. I need a advise.
My understanding is that I need to buy one of those bypass cables to be able to use MirrorLink while driving?
Also, other then original Samsung MHL adapter (ET-H10FAUWESTA) I will need usb cable (kind that is not only for charging) ?
Just want to get the list of things I will need in order to get it to work.
TIA
Kooljazz. I'd talk to the installation guys. This doesn't sound right. What are you plugging in on your side of the cable? mhl?

I have a MHL and a Samsung AllShare cast hooked up. I called a pioneer rep and they were saying that it doesn't work because phone is running 4.4 kitkat. The head unit only works for 4.3. I also successfully rooted my phone ad it still doesn't work.
I used the Jedi X Rom so that I could use the Franco kernel. It allows the phone go to permissive SE Linux. Stock is okay but fire me a PM to test this later. Last I used my Note 2, I had it working perfectly with Franco kernel and Jedi X Rom. Stock Note 2 Rom is very locked down. Pioneer are dumbasses and will never firmware this to work. They want you to buy a new deck.

The TV's will do an upgrade about once every 2 months , sometimes twice. Normally they are only for adding an app to the TV etc , so won't effect the phone. Hi,
I cannot get my device to 'discover' a microsoft miracast adaptor I have plugged in my tv. This device supports wi-fi direct, so it should theoretically work!
What I did :
I decided to upgrade my system as it was starting to lag badly, after 2 years of use.. I wanted to upgrade to kitkat at lesat, so I could stream movies to a tv. That feature was quite attractive to me.
I acquired CM11 unofficial from this post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2637079
full tablet wipe, (Forgot to backup SMS, argh) and it installed CM11 with kitkat 4.4.4 just fine. No problems that I can see, installed slim Gapps package - just for the play store, nothing else. Gonna install Gmail later.
Then I bought a chromecast, it was quite fiddly - It wouldnt find it on cast screen either, I discovered I needed it to run through a wifi network with a permanent internet connection. After this, it showed up on cast screen. Also, the streaming quality was complete crap - so I returned it and got a microsoft miracast adaptor - which apparently has better quality and doesn't need a wifi router!
I can't figure out how to get it to show up. The cast screen tab cannot find any devices. The adaptor sits in the tv, and it shows '"ready to connect" on there.
Since the tab for cast screen exists on my tablet, the functionality is there, and waiting to be used?
Any help please?
Do I need to do something like this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/har...experimental-enable-mirroring-device-t2812193 ?
So, no one has provided any tips yet... I'm going to go return this miracast adaptor before I can't get a refund for it.
But before I do, is there another forum category, or another place on the internet where I may be suggested to try for some troubleshooting advice?
This doesn't make sense to me - as the functionality WORKS, it is supported by the hardware, and the chromecast adaptor actually showed up before
Looking for the best way to connect my g7 power to a Panasonic Viera non smart tv.
I pay for BT sport which works on my phone but trying to get it working on the larger screen, tried various apps and firestick mirroring but non seem to work.
Does anyone know if a cable is available that would work or is it not possible with my set up.
As far as I can find Motorola doesn't include support for video out over USB-C. USB to HDMI cables won't work.
Casting is the only option.

I've tried mirroring to the Firestick and although the g7 finds the the Firestick signal it asks for a password, that I've never set up and it's not the wifi password and I can't seem to find much info on it.

Should. Casting per app works better.
Not sure on the Amazon gear, never used one. I'd expect something in it's setup to set/show password. Maybe a few searches for help?
You can purchase a USB 3.0 laptop dock with DisplayLink technology to mirror your device directly to any HDMI enabled device.
I own one, and have been using it extensively for months now.
It is important to keep in mind, you do NOT want a USB C DOCK. A previous poster explained this device doesn't have all the extra circuitry, so you cannot pass a 'protected' stream through the dock. In other words, many apps won't display the video playback on the dock.
BUT!!!! Most, if not all, video services that have a website appear to play just fine mirrored (use the website, not the app!)

G7 Power does not support Miracast, apparently. Only chromecast.

Google dropped Miracast from Android 6. So an OE has to add it back. Motorola is running nearly stock Android and isn't going to add such.
And as time goes on I expect only Samsung and LG to continue it since they sell TVs. But they may be forced to stop by Google's certification rules.
I think Lineage still includes support so if 3rd party ROM ever show up there may be options.
There are other casting apps that work (most need an app on the display too), but not as smoothly as built in Miracast. I tried a few in my Roku, but they really weren't worth the effort.

I've tried all of these "apps" most are basically a shortcut to the wireless display screen, My Razer 2 was still mirroring perfectly on Pie, but this moto? I've been able to enable the wireless display check box but every time I try to connect to either Fire Sticks/Fire TV, or a brand new NEX series head unit the phone crashes and reboots. I think after enabling the wireless display again its just a problem of screen resolution differences and rotation, looking into it. There are also a couple modules in Magisk to enable it. It crashed and bootlooped my phone and it was a pain getting it back. I do not recommend them with the G7 Power.
